Go easy my brother. The biggest argument I have against tithing is IMPOSING the same and pronouncing curses on non-compliance. See you can't possibly give without compulsion and as you purpose while am dictating how much you MUST give Thank you for using the words in blue...Christian liberty A believer who gives 10% out of discipline and habit is blessed. Another who gives 20% is blessed. Equally blessed is the other who gives arbitrally without regard to percentages Bidam:
Another fanatick on the loose. All i see in your post is an argument that borders on zeal and legalism, kindly go through the post of vooks and understand my response to him, i am never an advocate of what you erroneously accuse me of here. You are placing yourself as a judge over matters involving christian liberty to tithe which is as far as am concerned a form of giving. Your arguments borders on extremism and i will show you from scriptures.
[s]When the Corinthians wrote to Paul they asked, "What about these Christians who are eating meat offered to idols?" A group of them were upset about this and they wrote to the apostle, saying, "We don't think that is right; to us that is demon worship." But Paul wrote back and said, "Now be careful!" He said, in effect, "It would be the easiest thing in the world for me, as an apostle, simply to say, 'Yes, you are right, don't eat meat offered to idols,' but I am not going to say that.[/s] What I am going to say is that here is an area where each man must be fully persuaded in his own mind. You can't make rules for each other, [s]and you have to honor a weaker brother's conscience. If he is troubled by a certain action then don't flaunt your liberty in his presence, but be careful of one another and love each other. This is a graphical illustration of what your argument is plainly saying to us here. ][/s] |

When you corner pro-tithers with their glaring inconsistencies as far as their tithing is concerned when contrasted with Mosaic Law, they sheepishly claim that they tithe 'under faith' as Abraham and not 'under Law' as Moses. In other words, they appeal to the pre-Mosaic instances of tithing. Can you imagine somebody offering animal sacrifices to God 'under faith' just as Abraham and not 'under Law' like Moses? Why do they stop at Abrahamic tithing? Why not circumcise 'under faith' just as Abraham? They may as well marry their step-sisters,keep concubines and claim they are following Abraham and not Moses! chysam: I noticed one thing. All the pro-tithers are just giving us records of the judaism activities yet the claim to be christians and have died in christ. No one has ever for once said,Paul said or did, peter said,Mathew, luke,Mark John Timothy,Barnabas, ect ect said regarding tithes.Only mentioning moses,Abraham.Malachi ect.Pls are you people no longer christians?,if you are, give us accounts of these people I mentioned regarding tithes, then can we be perfectly convinced.Arguing this issue from the christian or gospel point of view is the most sincere and practically way of finding the truth or falsehood about tithes. Is anyone ready? |

SirJohn, Do you have military background? SirJohn: I was glad to know many were touched by my testimony, heres another incident that took place few months before the on I shared earlier. I hope it inspires someone again
MY TESTIMONY This second incident happened few months before the one I shared earlier: Anyone who has traveled along the Enugu - Portharcourt expressway would understand what I'm about to share. . .
It also had to do with a special project, this time in Abia state. I have this special expertise in an area of my job so each time issues come up that require my 'know how', I would be called upon to go resolve the issue. It was the first day of the project, it was 1800hrs, I had finished for the day and was heading back to base ( I was actually supposed to stay in a hotel in Abia State but decided to head back to Enugu).
Its about two hours from Umuahia to Enugu and just before 1900hrs it was already dark. I have heard stories about this highway, I even lost a friend some years back on the same road, he was felled by robbers bullet. I had to take the chance since I didn't want to spend the night in Abia state. At exactly 1900hrs, we got close to Okigwe, by now it was already dark. for those of you who have traveled along this road before, you know how bad the road can be at this point, I mean large potholes and stuff.
We got to this point where the road was really bad, the road is a dual carriage way but because of the extent of damage on one side of the road, motorists are forced to use the other side as a two way road. we got to a point on this road and then stopped; a huge container truck was parked in front of us as though it was trying to cross the bad spot. there was no movement for a few seconds and then I asked my driver why he wasn't moving, he told me it was traffic jam but I refused to believe him; we argued back and forth for a while before he decided to come out of the vehicle to see why the vehicles in front weren't moving. While he was out of the vehicle, I had this cold feeling all over so I tried to reach for my phone and call the company security but I couldn't find my cell phone.
All of a sudden, I saw Efosa running back to our vehicle, he opened the door, jumped in and told me that all the cars in front have been deserted; I mean all had their head lamps on, doors open but no occupant. . . I immediately knew we were in a robbery zone. I asked him to turn back as fast as he could, just as he was about doing this, a figure walked up to the side of the car where I was (passengers side) I looked to my side and saw a man clad in black clothing with a face cap on, holding a 9mm berretta to my face and said "if you move I'll shoot you" (you don't want to experience this, believe me)
Almost immediately, he pulled the door open and dragged me out (the doors were not locked because my driver didn't lock them when he got in). Then again something bizarre happened; immediately I was pulled out of the vehicle at gun point, Efosa sped off with the car. I lay face down in the middle of the highway and heard the sound of my vehicle speeding off and all I said to myself was "oh my goodness, now they're gonna shoot me". But the next thing I heard was "where’s the money" I was glad to hear that so I emptied my pockets, I must have had close to N20,000 on me. he demanded for my phone but I told him I left it in the car, I thought he was going to get mad and hit me but he didn't. After they were convinced I had given them all I had on me, they let me go but asked me to run as fast as my legs can carry me. In all this, I was unbelievably calm, I couldn't believe how calm I was myself. While leaving the scene, I also discovered more of them spread out in different locations; they should be about ten of them.
After I left the scene, they started shooting sporadically into the air, calling themselves different names and taunting the police; I ran into a bush nearby and lay low till they were done and left the scene. After about ten minutes in the bush, different thoughts started crisscrossing my mind, I wondered if I would make it through the night, I thought of wild animals, scorpions and snakes, I wondered if I could sleep through it all. After about an hour thirty minutes in the bush, my mind could not take the barrage of thoughts any longer, I switched to survival mode. I took off my shirt (that was the only thing I had on that could reflect light and give me away) and walked out of the bush; at this point, I was ready to face whatever came my way. I looked left and right and everywhere was pitch black and so silent I could hear my own heartbeat. Immediately, I started running towards Abia state (this was 1 hour from me using a car) but who cares, I was on survival mode, I could do anything.
I ran for about ten minutes yet no vehicle in sight and no human person; all I heard were night birds, owls, crickets etc. suddenly a police patrol car pulled over in front of me, six policemen alighted from the car and all corked and pointed their AK 47 rifles at me ordering me to stop or they’ll fire. I stopped running, threw my hands up and asked them not to shoot. I narrated what happened in less than fifteen seconds; they believed me and put me inside their car. I heaved a huge sigh of relief as I could not believe what was happening, I thought I was dreaming.
The policemen took me back to okigwe, I told them I needed to use the ATM and they took me to one (I actually refused giving the robbers my card holder and thank God they didn’t search me). They later took me to a hotel, I paid for a room and then we went to the hotel restaurant where I bought refreshments for the policemen. I called my company’s security and I was told my driver had called and he has been asked to go back and locate me. Anyways, he came 30mins later and joined the celebration in the restaurant.
Later that night while I lay in bed, these thoughts ran through my mind: What if the robbers had gone angry because my driver escaped with the vehicle? What if I didn’t come out of the bush at the exact time I did and the policemen didn’t find me? Where the policemen angels? What if my driver hadn’t escaped and I had to lose more stuffs like my phone, laptop and the car? What if I had given them my card holder and I didn’t have any means of getting money?
In all these things, we are indeed more than conquerors!! |

The church, Winners' Chapel has a program for it pastors. I still can't understand how a Christian university can omit Theological studies on its curriculum. Oral Roberts University is a Christian University. Covenant is anything but Christian nora544: I want to know where pastors get their education about religion. In my country when you want to teach religion in schools you need a bachelor degree in religion. So in nigeria every person can start to work as a pastor and he didnot need a degree from an University.
So wimmers need no bachelor degree that they could preach religion. |

Yours was too realistic. heard the empty fuel tank journeys severally. You repeat some urban legends ever too often and they become 'testimonies' dorox: You sound like a smart person that is why it pains me that after following my post in another thread you could ever think for one moment that I meant the airplane story. Let me spell it out in no uncertain words, I don't believe in miracles, but it does not mean that if you tell me a fantastic tale without proof that I won't be able to match it with a tale of my own. So when someone made the audacious claim of driving a car on empty, I made an even more audacious claim of flying a plane on empty. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Joagbaje’s Miracle HIV Healing Claim Debunked by vooks: 3:35pm On Nov 17, 2014 |
The thrust of your argument is wrong. You are measuring the efficacy of prayers by the welfare of Christians. Here are your premises 1. Christians are not likely to fare better than non-Christians in this world (Agreed) 2. Christians pray to God and He listens/hears but non-Christians prayers He does not CONCLUSION Prayers don't help Christians lead better lives Now, look closely at 1. BETTER in what/whose terms? Jesus Christ prayed that Peter's faith fail not The apostles prayed for boldness during persecution Was Peter's life or the apostles' any better compared to the non-Christians after the prayers? dorox: You are still dodging the thrust of our argument which is, if what you say is true, then christians will be better off compared to those of other faith and no faith. The issue of carnality would only be applicable here if your views on prayer holds up to reality, that is ifthere was an obvious positive gap between the well being of christians compare to the well being of others.
But as it turns out, your view of prayer does not fit with reality, hence the question why? |

Very funny comment KunleOshob: Isn't it obvious If they taught proper theology in the so called university they would be inadvently shooting themselves in the foot as all the hogwash which their self proclaimed bishop teaches them would be seen to be false. Students in the university would be able to easily and soundly see loopholes in the church's regular mis-interpretation of scriptures and of course it would cause a conflict becos the truth is contrary to what Oyedepo preaches. You have to remember that first and foremost Oyedepo is a business man and he would not want to embark on anything that would jeopardise hie business interests by allowing his students to learn proper theology. That aside i am almost certain that Oyedepo like most of his pentecostal colleagues did not go to any proper instituition to study theology, what most of the charlatans do is to take a part time six month diploma programme in one of the several unacreditted and shallow bible schools set up by other like mind manipulative pentecostal churches and learn primarily how to administer a church and fleece the flock. They learn very little about deep and true biblical knowledge and doing the will of God[ they prefer to invent their own scripture claiming "revelation"] |

It makes more sense because it is CARNAL and a belief that's highly devoid of God in it. It is intuitive and the most natural way to look at Jesus. I don't blame the criminal at the cross who mocked Jesus; all he saw was a fellow criminal crucified and he heard that he was a King. That's the natural shdemidemi-esque approach to God The repenting thug who through the bloodied body saw a King and a Kingdom, that's another level. And he never hesitated to ASK. He received. So it is really down to you to resign to fate and sovereignty. Take it further, what;s the point of sharing the gospel? Doesn't God's will prevail in the end? Never aks nothing because His will will prevail anyway but you can whine all you want to him because that's therapeutic. Don't even expect solutions. So if you don't pray for solutions are you praying for problems? honeychild: @vooks On the contrary what shemidemi has been saying makes so much sense. That's the kind of Christianity that is balanced and breeds strong personalities who can withstand trials without loosing faith.

So, what's the point of asking? Just to hear my own voice? shdemidemi: It will be done anyway... whether I ask or not. My request is a way of communicating with my God. I have explained this bit, I don't know how else you want to hear it.
If you leave me to pray naturally, I will never pray for pain. But if it is through my pain that God will be glorified, I completely embrace it.
Jesus asked for the will of God to be done... The will of God was for him to be slaughtered. Today, I know the death of Jesus was good because it saved humanity from damnation. |
