So you want me to restrict my response to tongues in Acts? This is insincere for the obvious; 1. Acts overlap with Corinthians 2. Regardless of the circumstances that ocassioned Corinthians, it is inspired and as much a source of doctrine as Acts 3. But for Corinthians you would NEVER know about interpreting of tongues The purpose of tongues is glorifying God that is from the ONLY instance tongues are understood. Acts 2:11 (KJV) Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of Godshdemidemi: I asked for the purpose of tongues at the time it was first initiated so we could compare it to what happened or what became the norm in the church in Corinth.
I think we both need to be on common ground as to why Paul wrote to the Corinth church. They were a carnal church, they were the worse church of all the churches Paul wrote to, he spoke to them as carnal as well. The present contemporary churches today draw semblance with the Corinth church.
So we must understand what tongues were initiated for in the book of Acts and how this church actually displayed it to be. Now, please say the purpose for tongues at Jerusalem. |
Christianity Etc › Re: The New Testament Prophets Defined. by vooks: 1:30pm On Nov 09, 2014 |
Let me ask, is the purpose of tongues in Acts different from say Pauline epistles? If you want to learn about anything, you need the collective revelation on the same contained in ALL verses that talk about it. So there is nothing like 'purpose of tongues in Acts' but the purpose of tongues in the scriptures shdemidemi: I believe aside the major apostles sent forth by Christ, anyone sent by the church could be loosely called an apostle. Barnabas, Epaphroditus and a few other brethren were also called apostles. I believe Apostles were higher placed than the evangelist, the former were more of an authority although both office were nomadic in nature.
I have mentioned two 'church apostles' up there. No, I don't know of any nor regard any as apostle from the 2nd-18th century.
What was the purpose for tongues in Acts 2? |

It's all about priorities. If he spends thousands of dollars on a necklace and then begs for an offering to defray church expenses, we have a problem. And you never know, it may have been a gift; I heard a pastor testifying how he went to pray for a sick couple. They received their healing and out of their joy they gave him a Mercedes. Problem is it was manual-transmission and he could barely move around with an automatic. He felt it would be embarrassing to admit this. So he struggled with the beast and all the way the wife kept praying. They got home safely and he took driving classes |

A fetish for eating puke Gombs: Well, it's Sunday, a little devotion now, huh?
"See!" · Sunday, November 9th
Pastor Chris
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not (1 John 3:1).
Our opening scripture is just so powerful! It begins with the word "Behold," which means, "See!" The same word is used in 2 Corinthians 5:17, a rather emphatic word; read the entire verse: "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold , all things are become new." In other words, now that you’re in Christ, "see" that all things are now new; behold it. Glory to God!
The word is akin to a Hebrew word in the Old Testament, "chazah," which means to see with the eyes of a prophet, something that others couldn’t see. So, He says, "see it," because ordinarily, from the natural standpoint, with your physical eyes, you may not see what He’s showing you or telling you, but He wants you to see with the eyes of the Spirit. He wants you to "see" that you’re now strong; "see" that you’re healthy; "see" that you’re sound; "see" that you’re righteous and prosperous. See!
It matters what you see. "See" that God has lavished His love on you, so superfluously that you should be called His very own, His beloved. No wonder Ephesians 1:6 says, "…he hath made us accepted in the beloved." See yourself in this light and you’ll never live in fear or condemnation.
The Word of God is the True Light; the same Word is saying to you now, "see" that you’re loved of God! "See" that you’re not abandoned and forsaken! "See" that He’s with you, and in you, to lead and guide you triumphantly through life. Halleluiah! |

I have yet to form a strong opinion on existence of these offices, and my biggest reason is there is much strain in defining or distinguishing these offices from the scriptures. A healthy dose of imagination is required. We can only authoritatively talk of APOSTLES being the witnesses of resurrection. Of course the obvious difficulty of a modern apostle is circumvented by arbitrary splitting of hairs; you have 'foundational' apostles and the rest. Can you tell me who were the first century prophets, evangelists, apostles ( other than the 12)? What about the second to 18th century? I believe in the gift of tongues and interpretation of the same. But there are far fewer interpreters I have met in all my life in Christ. I received Christ one evening and the next day when I went to pray I prayed in tongues. I have trained new believers on the import of baptism of Holy Spirit, prayed for them and watched them pray in tongues. shdemidemi: @vooks

Christianity Etc › Re: The Deception Of Malachi 3:10-11 "Devourer" And "Storehouse" EXPOSED by vooks: 4:47am On Nov 09, 2014 |
Your opinion on tithing on NL is least from practice. Tithing is a doctrine not propagated but on NL but churches. So here you are free to whitewash your doctrine to make it acceptable. If you have never heard of Malachi curses threatened on tithers except on NL you may as well be living on Mars Is Malachi invoked in YOUR church? Do they mention the curses as well? Do you believe the curse of non-tithing recorded there are applicable to those who don't tithe? Answer these as faithfully Peter as a Jew offered his tithe to Levites. There are many things not recorded about Jesus. We build faith and doctrines on what is recorded. You need to study Jewish history to understand that Jews NEVER tithed nothing not agricultural. So history and scriptures are against income tithes. History is stubborn. God can't change history; it is cast not in stone but steel. For once what historical records do you have showing you Jews tithed outside agriculture? Start with Josephus. This is not conjecture but hard facts. Pharisees and scribes may have been schooled but Jesus wondered at their meticulous tithing of spices! Spices are as agricultural. The parables of rich people who hired stewards or labourers. They certainly never farmed but they were farmers. Is this too hard to digest? About Jesus tithing, this is speculative based on what we know. Jesus father was a carpenter and most certainly Jesus too. The point is, if all Jesus did was carpentry, he was not obligated to tithe. Either side of the argument who push it beyond this are insincere. Got it? Jesus told the man to offer a gift. The gift was what Moses prescribed and the point is not to imagine the purpose of the gift but that Jesus referred a man back to Torah. That does not apply to Christians NOW yet Jesus commanded the man. So this is an incidence of Jesus a man under the Law demonstrating reverence for the Law yet Christisns would NEVER offer animal sacrifices prescribed. Same case with the tithing verse, your only hope. Very desperate people. Note these were not 'laws of the land' but Law of Moses. Read Leviticus 14:2-32 to understand that this was a Command from Yahweh Himself Image123: i'm a tither, and i said that Anybody can decide what he wants to do with his income. . i know some other tithers, sorry for mentioning your names like Olaadegbu, Gombs, Alwaystrue, Bidam, and some others. i'm supposing nlmediator and nannymcphee would be tithers. i do not know how many of them including me, that you can point to or show that they proclaim curses on antitithers. Unfortunately, my post that you are replying remains true in its saying that antitithers look down on those of us that tithe. That is what all the antitithers here do.
Can you tell us then what Peter gave after Pentecost till death? At least, you claim to have SUFFICIENT evidence of the early/primitive church giving both on and off scriptures to allow us to conclude what they practiced. My point is you can't tell anybody of a surety that somebody never gave a tenth whether then or now. You are not God. Believers give to God, and only Him reserves that right to conclude what anybody gave or is giving. you can't sit in some room with some softwares and internet and conclude sufficiently what happened about 2000years ago. It was not written and you cannot assert to know.
The Scribes and pharisees were said to have tithed, Jesus said so Himself. If Scribes who are more literate and 'office' jobs than capentry are tithing, nothing stops Jesus the carpenter's son from not tithing. Former Nigerian President Obasanjo was a military man and also a known farmer. Being a carpenter is not mutually exclusive to farming as to assert that Jesus could not have tithed. i'm aware of many graduates and workers in Nigeria who have farms, fish farms, piggery, poultry etc. What then is so special and remote to anybody in an agrarian economy having a farm or garden? Now, by the way, there is no viable document or fact that says that Jews tithed agricultural produce from Israel alone. Or that some people are not eligible to tithe. It is not written anywhere in the Bible but a product of the antitither's imagination.
Good to see you left your unfounded assertions about what people being healed give God. i'm not in a position to prescribe what anybody gives God, but not to belabour you, here is the passage in question. Mat 8:2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshiped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. Mat 8:3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. Mat 8:4 And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, show thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
You can see that Jesus did not prescribe animal offerings for the leper's cleansing. The leper was already cleansed. He was to offer what needed to be done for him to be integrated back into society. He had to meet the priests and be declared fit to cohabit with others. Jesus wasn't going to break the laws of the land as they did not contradict God's laws. In the same vein, i would prescribe that all christians be subject to authority and to obey the laws of the land as long as they do not contradict the laws of God. this is a very applicable scripture and i would be following Jesus'example that way. Following Jesus doesn't mean you have to go live in Galilee or have twelve men going around with you, or wear white robes or speaking KJV english, or going into the wilderness for 40days and nights. It's more than that. May God give you understanding.
Context. Mat 23:1 Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,
i know the next line on this BTW, it would most likely come from Mark or one of his cohorts. |

Hebrews 2:3-4 English Standard Version (ESV) 3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, 4 while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will.
Many years back I recall a Jehovah's Witness arguing from this verse that the author depicts the gifts as historical and as witnesses to the gospel and how now that we have the gospel, we are 'safe', we don't need the gifts. I fell for it until I went to Acts and discovered gifts operating in normal believers and not just apostles.
Cessation movement are basically arguing from silence; they don't see the gift(s) so they conclude and dig very hard to 'prove' that the gifts don't exist. While much has been accomplished throughout Christendom in absence of spiritual gifts- think Calvin,Luther, Bible translation and even missionaries to Africa and nether-lands, I find they still have their place.
THe problem is that of extremism. On one side we have ministers out to beat Elijah or even Jesus at manifesting the Holy Spirit, on the other end we have believers firmly convinced that gifts are demonic

You need to understand that the relationship between ministers of the gospel and the congregation is basically one of TRUST. The leaders are also in authority and to the submitted members, their word carries that authority. This trust and authority is why members easily OBEY their leaders and in most cases without questioning. Taken to the extreme you have extreme control groups such as Camp Davidians. So this tithing teaching coming from a man you have submitted to is powerful and BINDING. Tithers pretend not to notice this obvious fact. Paul knowing this appealed to freewill gifts whereas on other matters he commanded. MarkMiwerds: Actually, many do "force their members to pay tithe." Many use the same type of tactics the pastor in this clip used...
And because many don't study their Bibles as they should, they fearfully yield to the pastor's threats of curses. |

Let's love them because love covers a multitude of sins mbaemeka: Brothers, you need to understand the crux of the whole issue that is, if you are unaware. They created a thread to exchange prevarications and conjectures with themselves and nobody gave a hoot. Ihedi (purposely truncating his moniker so he doesn't see the unnecessary mention) tried to give opposing views but they didn't even let him have a say so he took the gentlemanly route and bowed out. In between I would see brother Image's moniker on the end of a page and I'd peep in and see he was trying to redirect their focus but they didn't entertain his "dissentious" views. One time he was pushed to the extent that he rubbished all their ideas on tithes so much so that they asked him to remove his post from their thread which he eventually did. The guy who suffered the most 'wounjuries' is here to testify. He is the same one that makes spurious claims and refuses to retract them even when cornered.
I only decided to make a post on that thread as I was led to and this was when I saw Nanny's post's. Initially they were not receptive of her as they felt she was there to disrupt their flow because she posed tough questions that they could not answer. I remember mentioning Nl and Brother Gombs to come and view the fiasco but you both disobliged . In retrospect, I am happy I posted when I did as until a few weeks back I didn't even know she worshiped where she worships.
The Bipolar disordered cum failed blogger cum multiple moniker owner kept making the same idiotic post's trying to give WOF a bad name and then hang them for it. He could say things like "WOF worship angels", "Paul warned us about worshiping angels. He said it is demonic" therefore "WOF is demonic, bro confused and bro dishonest will add more to this, I rest my case on F35" and then the troop will rush in to click likes. That thread would give BasketMouth comic ammunition for 2 centuries and a half.
With the last drop of commonsense that the failed blogger had, he avoided engaging me and I was happy because he didn't discuss with any ounce of spiritual or natural intellectualism of any sort. One time he developed enough clout and made one of those balderdash-laden posts at me, explaining how Jesus was a pauper who had nowhere to lay his head. Of course, I had him for breakfast and it is because of the whooping he suffered that he redirected his anger to brother Hagin when he saw from the 1st chapter of this book how he explained that Jesus was not a homeless Pauper as they had claimed. Interestingly, Brother Hagin's explanations where from a different perspective from mine but we still arrived at the same conclusions if not they would have called me a Plagiarizer- the last resort, when all else fails.
The few of them (and really I am referring to 1 person) who had some degree of Integrity Quotient didn't bother raising old dust from the previous thread as they silently learnt lessons and made amends but the chief Ignoramus tried to cast Hagin in bad light by even attempting to question his motives for writing the book. We saw how commonsense again made a fool of him on this thread. On one other thread he said Jesus used the word power twice and never referred to miracles while at it and I and Gombs didn't let him off so easily. He even had to claim it was a typographical error but I can assure you that he didn't misuse any tense or misspell any word. It was what it was- a ginormous goof !(pardon the portmanteau)
I warned him to steer clear off my posts which his old handle did but because he is suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder he created a new moniker to initiate threads on CEC's president. Of course, the name changed but not the bitterness, envy and ignorance. He quoted a post of mine and responded with the same lies but I spotted him out in a heartbeat without even taking note of his IP address or the etisalat line he probably uses to post. When he was asked to disprove that he managed 2 accounts he "pleaded the 5th" but everyone could tell he was still the same vo.yeur and I am right in calling him so, if not he should explain to us how he saw Rev. Chris "caught pants down" borrowing his own words.
Most of them don't communicate to exchange truth. It is all about "likes"garnered and the overbloated self-importance. One particular day while scouting through the Religion section as a guest, I came about a thread where the new moniker made a post and there was the old one on the side "viewing" it. Seconds later, I let my curiosity get the best of me when I refreshed the page and there it was- Old had liked New's post, as Old was at that point the only viewer and New had gained 1 more like. Imagine if such a person became a top office holder: He would rig-in his village headmaster to become the President of the Harvard Alumni.
Now imagine him and his delusions. On this thread he expressed his surprise that I responded to his posts which he directed at me, yet he is now telling me not to discuss with him again on this forum as if I enjoy dumbing myself down with his pseudo-intellectualism. 2 men exchanged words and when they were done the first one said "Let's not speak to ourselves again, no hard feelings". The other quizzed "no hard feelings?", and then he concluded insouciantly "no feelings at all". I am the second man. |
