Your idea of starting from somewhere is starting from P to count your ABCD. If you don't want to depend on foreign goods, finance restrictions should not be the first thing when there are no enabling policy, talkless of infrastructure. Now let take this conversation back pre oil era, most of these Gulf countries are impoverished backwater nation for example Saudi relies on pilgrimage and dates farming to support it economy. When oil was discovered they became wealthy and started gaining influence, the wealth also allows thems to export the exteme version of Islam (Wahabism & Salafism) - the ideology that makes terrorism thrives.

Most of the wealth in these countries are concentrated in the hands of few people (The royal family and their cronies) while they give crumbs to their lazy citizens (2/3 of working Saudis works for the government, abysmal right ??)

They have to show off because the wealth got into their head, imagine this - you've been an ugly chic all your life but you woke up one day and found out that you now have a cute face, big tits and nice curve (drop-death gorgeous), c'mon you gonna wanna behave like a slut sometimes.

But here is the thing, those folks are still coming back to where they left off their date farming, they use most of their resources for shitty stuff - look at the Ronaldo deal, why did you think he agreed to go to Saudi to play for one unknown local league, about a year ago they wanted wood to play Golf for 750M USD, US Military industrial complex they collect their own, US PR firms too (Human right probs.), US former intelligence and National Security officials too (imagine an NSA analyst earning less than 100K USD per annum getting 1M USD working for the Arabs), they lack the manpower to support their economy when not 'if' oil become less important.

Countires like Japan, China and in the good old days Germany, have strong currencies because they are reliant on manufacturing, which means they can set their prices of what they sell, and earn a lot of dollars.Currency buffered.

Countries like Nigeria, Ghana and Malawi export raw materials, whose prices are set by a central amorphous body somewhere in London or Paris or New York, and said prices never ever favor us. So, we don't earn dollars, and we end up with weak currencies...no dollars to buffer the currency.

Above is also why we are short on dollars all the time.

Well Ghana is now trying to survive by moving into manufacturing and pegging their currency to gold after being plunged into the dire situation right now. Maybe Nigeria is also waiting to go into hyperinflation before they do something.

Well, I know that majority of Nigerians are not brilliant enough to know what this means.

Ever since i packed into my new house, my landlady and her daughter have been disturbing my life one way or the other.

Yet, without anything to increase the people's earning ability, like electricity generation for instance, they are still going further to force everyone to have their money in the banking system so that they can have more money to take from people. At least having and spending cash was free and people who see the handwriting on the wall, won't trust to keep their value in the banking system where it would be eroded. But I know that those people who keep supporting this either do not see this or are part of the largesse. I laugh at the ignorant ones who say it will help fight corruption in a country where the very check systems are corrupt. No wonder everyone who knows how gullible Nigerians are wants to be a politician. I understand it now.
