Politics › Re: How Floating The Naira Benefits You - Reno Omokri by wegevv: 2:21pm On Jun 16, 2023 |
BATified23: When the Central Bank of Nigeria used to set the value of the Naira and defend that value by artificially pumping Dollars into the market, you, as an ordinary citizen, did not benefit. It was another girl subsidy. But this time, the subsidy recipients were importers and people who wanted to ferry money out of Nigeria.
Last year, the CBN was projected to have spent $8 billion to defend the naira's value artificially. The year before, it spent almost $ billion. That is more than what Nigeria spends on infrastructure annually. And that money just flies out of our economy, benefiting traders and foreign investors rather than manufacturers.
It dissuaded local manufacturing of made in Nigeria goods and services because it almost guaranteed that imports would be cheaper. That is why Aliko Dangote had to close his tomato paste factory in Kano because Peter Obi could always import and sell cheaper, substandard tomato paste.
All that will gradually end with the floating of the Naira. Our reserves will no longer be used to defend the Naira. Those who wish to take Dollars, Pounds, Euros and Yuan out of the country can look for it where they can legally find it. Anywhere except the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Our reserves will be used to defend local production instead of foreign consumption. The price of goods in Peter Obi's Next Cash and Carry will rise because they are almost 100% imported.
The price of locally manufactured goods, like Innoson Vehicles, and Dangote Tomato paste, will also rise, but not at the same rate as imported goods will increase.
But you, as a citizen, will gain because the money previously used to defend the Naira will now instead be used to pay Nigerians a living wage, build infrastructure, and service the proposed student loans, amongst other things.
It is a win-win scenario. That is why nobody who loves Nigeria should attack this patriotic policy that all major Presidential candidates, except Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, promised to implement.

LegendHero: To me, the actual big deal is that he could do all this without the usual grounding of the country from the big boys of the industry benefiting from all this.
When Bloomberg praised Tinubu yesterday, they did not do that because he removed all these things but they specifically mentioned that he was able to maintain stability and peace after removal, something that usually lead to chaos whenever any government try to do that since 2003.
I think he was able to achieve this because he got lot of loyalists in all corners of society. From the street, business world, Labour world, trenches, politics, international community, and etc.

The truth is that the English written in that section can certainly be interpreted both ways. Penguin2: I see you are an expert ICT personnel. Good one.
Their references to the Amazon AWS is on page 17, paragraphs 46, 47 & 48. Thanks. So looks like they might just be referring to the polling unit results that were intentionally made publicly available on the irev portal (backed by AWS). Those images clearly link to AWS S3 buckets (as seen by the URL of many of them) so in my opinion that is already clear proof that they did indeed use AWS. But I believe the petitioners are saying they are also happy to subpoena Amazon to confirm that INEC (or whatever company it outsourced to) did indeed use AWS. I really doubt that is necessary but Amazon should be able to easily confirm as it isn't anything private. it's basically: "are these people your customers", "yes". I was confused about the mention of "the number of accredited voters" as I thought that was implying that LP had managed to get some private INEC data from AWS but the number of accredited voters is written on every polling unit result sheet on the publicly available images on AWS so that is likely what they are referring to. Looks like they have done some calculations and seen that the ward results declared by INEC exceeded the sum of the accredited voters in those areas. |
Politics › Re: Full Text Of Peter Obi ‘s Election Petition. by wegevv: 11:27am On Mar 22, 2023 |
Found this on page 61 on that link: I also state on behalf of the Petitioners that as part of the technological architecture for the conduct of the 2023 General Elections, including the Presidential election, the 1st Respondent utilized virtual servers on Amazon Web Services (AWS) for the hosting/storage of the 1st Respondent's data, particularly results obtained and or generated form the 2023 General Elections, including the election results of the Presidential Election held on 25th February 2023 on the Amazon Cloud Platform. The Petitioners may subpoena the relevant staff or officer of Amazon to establish this and related facts pleaded in this Petition. I believe what they are saying here is that they are ready to subpoena Amazon staff/officer to prove as a fact that INEC did indeed use AWS as part of their hosting/storage. As for the actual data itself you don't even need to go to Amazon |
Politics › Re: Full Text Of Peter Obi ‘s Election Petition. by wegevv: 11:12am On Mar 22, 2023 |
Penguin2 please which section is the Amazon / AWS mentioned? I want to have a read.
I doubt they even need to subpoena Amazon. All they need to do is prove that the data is correct and any third-party AWS expert might be able to do that depending on the data source.
We already know INEC uses AWS (Amazon Web Services) as all the uploaded polling unit images are uploaded to S3 buckets. Anyone that has worked with AWS before and seen the URLs would know this. All LP and PO need to do is get the court to force INEC to allow an expert access to their AWS account.
With that access, any expert will be able to confirm if the data matches what LP have claimed and if it was tampered with too. This is all very basic stuff and easy to do. Again AWS themselves don't need to be brought into it. You just need access to the AWS account.
I strongly suspect that the AWS account would be managed by whichever engineering company that INEC outsourced BVAS/IREV system to (not directly by INEC). AWS itself doesn't typically manage customer's account but instead manages the infrastructure you use and the services. In fact if you know what you're doing you can have data in AWS that Amazon itself cannot access (using client side encryption for instance). It is the company managing the account that need to be subpoenaed.
I doubt LP hacked anyone to get the data. If you use AWS correctly it is extremely difficult (verging on impossible) to hack. Maybe the company managing this data unintentionally kept it in an unencrypted S3 bucket with public access, who knows. If that data is still publicly available then all this should be even easier to prove without any subpoenas |

Sheggy13: Sincerely, I'm shocked at that FCT 25% nonsense. Are they saying if you win in all 36% states of the Federation and refuse to get 25% in FCT then you shouldn't be declared President. Where's the sense in that. I'm surprised the use of "and" conjunction and concord in basic English is seriously causing problems for so-called senior lawyers.
Somebody should please answer if these two scenarios are the same: There are 24 boys and 12 girls in a class. 1. I need two-third of the boys and girls in this class for a task. 2. I need two-third of the boys and two-thirds of the girls, in this class for a task.
Then compare these scenarios with how that section in the constitution was written and see which one fit. There you have your answer. In English language those 2 examples mean the exact same thing. It’s just because you’re used to some people speaking incorrectly lol. Go and ask an English teacher or an AI lol If I say you need to “pass 2/3 of your projects and your exam” does that mean you can fail your exam and still pass? It’s very clear but some of you don’t want to believe it. For me the only issue is whether the court has previously decided on this one way or another. Because in that case precedent will be used. Otherwise the English written in the constitution is clear |
