CelebritiesRe: edited. by whirlwind7(m):
All that you typed here is strictly your own opinion. I do not have to subscribe to it.

When you make a case for the accused herdsmen, you should at least support your sermon with facts that prove what tribe or nationality the criminals belong to.

Do you even own a farmland? Have you ever been a victim of these herdsmen?
Have you labored and toiled for months under the sun, just for you to wake up one morning and realize that what it took you months to sow and nurture had disappeared overnight, within an hour or two?
has anyone close to you ever left home to go tend his crops one morning, and never came back, with search parties finally locating his mangled body in a corner of his farm. With the tell tale hoof marks and cow dung everywhere?

What made the DSS spring into action and were itching for a showdown, just because they uncovered shallow graves in Abia state, with the victims SUSPECTED to be Fulani herdsmen, whereas this same agents didn't bat an eyelid when hundreds were killed in Agatu just recently?

You are making a case that not all herdsmen are Fulanis. I totally agree with you. However, note that many of their kidnap victims have met them and verified their identities.
You are a typical southerner. Typical, in that people from the south are never united over a seemingly common cause. The governors from the north have come together to deny that the terrorists who attacked communities in Enugu state are not Fulanis. HOW DID THEY KNOW THIS? Perhaps they have info they didn't care to share with the rest of us. Or, more likely, it is their usual quality of protecting their own, as has been noted from our flawed political association.

Nomadic cattle rearing all over Africa originated with Fulanis. They predominate the trade. Till this day, they are the dominant players. Politicians and wealthy individuals who are not of Fulani extraction do invest in the business. But, it's the nomads who take the cattle all across west Africa in search of grasslands. It's these nomads that clash with farmers all the time. Their employers supply guns to them, supposedly, to fight off cattle rustlers with. Same guns are used to shoot and maim farmers, if the farmers refuse to have them dine on your crops.

You are aiming at being politically correct and rational with your post. Unfortunately, the people you are making a case for, from their elites, politicians, wealthy businessmen to their foot soldiers, do not care about rationality or political correctness. They never rose up to condemn the series of killings, which closely rivals that of Boko Haram. In fact, it was the same denial that made Boko Haram gain traction to become what it is today! You seem to have never learned anything from associating with northerners, other than admiring the flesh of teenage Fulani girls back then. It's probably what motivated this thread of yours. It was a politically correct and conscious western media that analyzed Fulani herdsmen to be the 4th deadliest terror group in the world. No one needs your analysis.

The only solution these entitled people proffered was acquiring lands to set up grazing reserves. Of course, we all know that the bulk of such lands will be taken from the south and middle region because that's the areas where grasses seem to grow anymore. Rob, rape and slaughter people, that is not enough. Take their land to boot! Rub it in their faces. They are no more than the northern elite's stewards. Can any sane northerner accept southern businessmen getting vast tracts of land for free in the north? Won't happen.

One thing I know for certain is this: If every Fulani in the nomadic cattle rearing trade decides to adopt ranching and confine themselves to their region, these clashes will totally stop. Anyone in this trade who is not Fulani will have to take a cue from them. You are blowing a lot of unneeded hot air here.

Many people, including leaders don't EVEN know the first stanza recited in ENGLISH lol.

Many people don't know the origin or true meaning of Nigg.a Area aka Nigeria

Many people don't know the causes of the civil war, or why or how this colony was put together because it isn't even taught

Many people don't know who they are, thinking they are from another group(s), despite bearing Igbo name (Ifeanyi Okowa), bearing Yoruba name, ( Bukola Saraki), etc,

And after 56 years, some folks are still desperately looking for ways to promote what has been natural in other nations, using 2nd stanza of a anthem that does not even reflect their heritage.

Fools forever
Yours is the comment that reflected what I had in mind after reading this thread.
How many countries, who value their heritage, bans the teaching of history lessons in their schools?

That alone shows the deceit and fraud this country was built on. If you have no history, then you cannot learn from the past, and take charge of your future. That's Nigeria. A country cast adrift without a direction. Whatever that is being done by government to "make things better", as far as I'm concerned, is an absolute waste of time. This country has no future. This is mere application of band-aids on a festering sore.
PoliticsHerdsmen On Rampage: Can Ground Pepper Help? by whirlwind7(op):
Now that the entire nation (except the cattle owners) has acknowledged that the menace of herdsmen has become unbearable, perhaps the rural folks who bear the brunt of their destruction should take steps to protect themselves, while the lethargic and almost nonexistent government try to get it's act together.

In the next few weeks, we are bound to hear more news and more gory details of how these primitive people invaded a community and slaughter defenseless people. That is as certain as the sun rising from the east. As the villagers cannot acquire guns and ammo, perhaps a more subtle and ingenious approach could be adopted. Here is an interesting piece I just read online about how the poor folks in certain villages in Imo state tackled the problem:

Nekede and Ihiagwa are two neighboring communities in Owerri, hosting the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, and Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
Sometime last year, the activities of these Fulani herdsmen became so unbearable with destruction of farms and rapes. The women gathered and thought of what to do to stop these killer Fulani herdsmen wielding AK 47s. In contrast, the women had no gun, knife or any other weapon but their brains.
They came together and reasoned what to do to drive the herdsmen from their communities without firing a shot. They agreed and tasked every woman in the communities to contribute 1 Derica cup of ground pepper each. They brought the pepper together and organized themselves in groups in the night to spread the pepper across all the farms in Nekede and Ihiagwa. The following morning, the marauders came as usual with their cows. Lo and behold, in less than 30 minutes they lost 15 cows because when cows smell or ingest pepper, they die. Immediately the Fulani herdsmen fled with their remaining cows and sanity returned to Nekede and Ihiagwa

So, maybe this method can be put to the test across every region and farmlands that are vulnerable to their incursions. I know I would do everything within my powers to protect crops in my farmland.
In addition to this, it won't be a bad idea to boycott buying beef for the next few months, until their markets get crippled. This step cannot be easy to implement. It will require a lot of effort to get people across the entire south to do this. But the ground pepper seem easier and more practical.
Expecting the federal government to take an ambitious and resolute approach to ending this terror is simply a waste of time. As it is, they are hoping to grab lands mostly in the south, to serve as grazing reserves. This is bound to add fuel to the problem. No doubt. So, before our government and it's unofficial foot soldiers hound us till we go extinct, I think we should give ourselves a fighting chance first.
PoliticsRe: Why Are Northern Highways Better Than Southern Ones? by whirlwind7(m):
fcbonsai:
most contract that are carried out in the north r done without d cintractors needing to bribe a thousand and one entities but here in the south, any contractor will have to bribe virtually all the 'bribeable' individuals before he successfully completes the project...all the numerous bribes will affect thw project financially leading to substandard materials being used
We are discussing federal roads here.
The same process of awarding contracts holds for both north and south. Bribery is arguably involved, in whatever part of the country the contracts and construction work is getting done.

But federal, or trunk A roads in the north got more attention, especially during the military era. This is obviously because most heads of state in those periods were from the north, and contractors were more careful to do a proper job under military rule. Also, federal roads leading from Abuja to northern states were upgraded after Abuja became the capital.

Since 1999, when we returned to democracy, we have witnessed the level of corruption that made the military took over in the 80s. The federal government since 1999 is such a sorry example of how Africans cannot take charge of their destiny and properly govern themselves when they have no compulsion to do so. You would think that when Obasanjo was in charge, the Lagos-Benin expressway would be upgraded to world standard, but it never happened. Even, the road that leads to his farm and love nest at Ota was left in total disrepair. That's a typical African for you. Same thing with GEJ's tenure. Very little improvement. Southerners themselves are largely responsible for this disparity.

Blackberrybabes:
But why are our parents always particular about tribes when we are all one Nigeria. There was this time this Tanzanian lady came to our office and it wasn’t until when she mentioned that she was from that country before we realized she wasn’t a Nigerian. She looked so much like a Nigerian. This is just to tell that we are all one and we should not be judged by our tribes, but by the contents of our hearts, individually.
.

After the lengthy tale, this is what your epistle boils down to. Thank goodness you finally got to the crux of the issue. The story could have induced coma. tongue Just joking.

Well, yes, you can marry from whatever tribe you find love. Inter tribal marriage is such a beautiful thing. Just as you would love to marry a Tanzanian, Camerounian, Angolan, kenyan...whoever.
But talking about one Nigeria, and marrying someone "because we are one Nigeria" is as lame as it is not functional. I prefer you say we are all Africans. Nigeria has tried to be one, but it hasn't worked out, and it will never work. we are officially regarded as a country because it still serves the interest of the political class and their acolytes. The Nigeria project has not served or bettered the lot of the average man in the street.

Sorry for bringing a political undertone into it. But you started it when you used the term "one Nigeria" That phrase is the biggest fraud everyone inside that geographical entity has been subjected to. And it is exactly due to this fraud that many parents would feel concerned about inter tribal marriage, because an Igbo guy, for instance, saying he wants to marry an Idoma, or Hausa, or Yoruba, or Jukun, or Ibibio, or Tiv, or Berom, is almost same like saying he wants to marry a Ghanian, or Malian, or Sudanese, or Moroccan.

The "oneness" of Nigeria is mere fallacy.

Hmmm.
There's a lot of deception going on.

Ask yourself, why would a terrorist group that the government claimed have been defeated, now evolve into the stage of making uniforms for their foot soldiers? This isn't the first set of terrorists caught wearing this same strange uniform.
An otherwise covert group has become bolder and wishes to be recognized on sight. What is giving them the guts or confidence to begin acquiring uniforms, when they should be trying to hide their identities?

Something isn't adding up, and it is very scary. We are between the devil and the deep blue sea.

Welldone on your project. I just started a similar project in Calabar too, mine is close to the Ex-service Men Housing Estate just before the Tinapa junction. Though am using red bricks in this project. The land is steeper and sloopier than yours and my innitial plan was a 3 room bungalow for a start then leave space for duplex in future. My site engineer has suggested we re-design to a bungalow-penthouse as the house is too low compared to other building around.

We are on the verge of introducing a penthouse of a master bed room and a study/office to be on a decking floor. we are redesigning the plan for now and will welcome suggestions and advice on how to go about this.
This is great, bro! The prospect of building with red bricks excite me. I fervently hope you will create a thread here to show how it goes.

It's just beginning.

I'm sure Buhari's great ancestor, the jihadist Uthman Dan Fodio is smiling at what his protege has accomplished within a very short period of time IN A DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT IN THIS 21st CENTURY

This sort of democracy we practice in this failed state called Nigeria does nobody no good, except the political elites and the Fulanis who get covert government support in the wholesale slaughter of helpless men women and children. Are these the lunatics the government is planning to give lands to in the rest of the country for their cattle, and have them as my legitimate neighbors? So, we should all perish because they are now in power, and their cows are worth more than human lives?

Nobody needs a soothsayer to realize that our president is in full support of their activities. It is now the Fulanis versus the rest of the country, especially the south. We either arm ourselves and die defending our existence, or we keep waiting for a government that doesn't regard the rest of us as humans. How I wish the spirit of the defunct Bakassi vigilante service will be evoked. Militancy is the next approach to tackle this menace. The government has shown that it is the only way to take you seriously.

what usually amazes me in these killings is that: how is it that few people from a very far distance(the north) can destroy a whole village with able bodied men. Ibo men are known to be very masculine, robust, powerful, and physically fit. Is it that the Ibos are afraid of the fulanis? I think the answer is yes. They boast on social media but when it comes to reality the can't do anything.

Even the IPOBS and MASSOBs could not protect their own people against those thin, fragile, illitrate fulanis. Every time u hear IPOB say if anything happens to Kanu, there will be war, yet they are running from fulanis who are ''massacering'' them
in their own land.
No wonder they say IPOB AND MASSOB are scam.

Notwithstanding I sympathize with them
You must think shooting people with AK-47 rifles requires so much muscle, or that able bodied men, as you described it, are not harmed by bullets? This is not a wrestling contest.
These Fulani terrorists move around with assault rifles, and the security agents turn a blind eye. The terrorists claim they bear arms to be able to guard against cattle rustlers. Arms that were illegally supplied to them.

No southerner dares bare such weapons without getting arrested or shot on sight by the same security forces. It doesn't take strong men to fight a war anymore. It requires superior weaponry.

I wounder why the government has not done anything meaningful to control the activities and killings by these herdsmen.
What's there to wonder?
These two are the most powerful men in the country at the moment. It is as if God, in conjunction with our brothers from the SW, has given them the opportunity of a lifetime to finally punish and dominate everyone else they perceived as enemy of their cattle rearing business, namely, communities from the North Central and southwards, who will not willingly give up the crops on their farmlands to feed the herdsmen cattle.

El Rufai had warned that anyone who kills a Fulani, be it a soldier or civilian, owes a debt that must be repaid in full. Buhari toed same line when he stormed Oyo state to demand why "his people" are being killed.
Be aware that in every case, the Fulani herdsmen are the instigators of violence. Bubu and Rufai only foam at the mouth when any Fulani dies in a reprisal killing, not when the Fulanis goes on the offensive and sack entire communities with illegal AK-47s.

Now that both men have executive powers, everyone of us should expect more of these killings, because the herdsmen and their terror network now have federal and military backing.

Soon, our lands are going to be turned to grazing reserves, because feed for cattle is much more important than food for humans.

Not surprising, for a people who don't really attach much value to other people's lives. Much care isn't given to safety and standard procedures.

Now, I have witnessed on several occasions, in other countries (Africa inclusive) where vehicles are transported on the beds of other trucks.
Even mere salon automobiles that are much lighter than this tractor, ARE NEVER TRANSPORTED THIS WAY, WITH MERE STONES AS WEDGE!

All that is needed is for that truck to hit one of the many potholes in our roads, and the tractor comes tumbling down. Next, we blame the devil for any casualty resulting from the accident.

Safety is about applying standard practices to prevent accidents, not mere attempts or half measures.

Imagine running away from Boko Haram in the North, or leaving the South-West as I did, only to be killed by Fulani herdsmen in my own village. God forbid!

Yesterday, I heard that one man from Amurri (my village) who sells beef at Eke Agbani market was shot and robbed by Fulani herdsmen. They allegedly called him to come to a certain location to buy a cow. When he came, the Fulani herdsman pulled a gun. The Amurri man struggled with him but was overpowered by two other Fulani herdsmen who stabbed him. He was eventually shot and they disappeared with his cash. Thank God he didn't die. I hear he's in a hospital receiving treatment now. God help us.

Please join me there https://www.nairaland.com/3059133/how-stop-herdsmen-vs-farmers let's brainstorm on solutions to this worsening problem.
Imagine that sentence in bold. Such is the state of that country that nothing makes sense anymore.

One thing I absolutely believe is that the increased spate of these Fulani herdsmen attack is planned. These are not mere isolated incidents. I think the reason is to make people in the south give in to the proposed grazing bill, hoping that the killings, robbery and kidnap will let up.
But then, only slowpokes will support any bill that will forcefully take lands from people in the south who had very little landmass to begin with, and give it to cattlemen from the north, who own the largest portion of land in the country.

Only a slowpoke will believe that giving lands in the south to herdsmen will bring the menace of these Fulanis to an end, when in fact, that is the first step in their plan to conquer and dominate people of the south, by waging jihad and forcing their religion on them. Have you ever seen this people live peacefully with other tribes? Their lifestyle has seen them become the poorest in the land, now they need to spread the disease south wards.
It's all good to brainstorm here, but what good is it going to achieve? There is no listening government. Even if they do hear, they will never act on it, if it doesn't help them in their agenda. Their ultimate agenda of dipping their koran in the Atlantic Ocean as admonished by Usman Dan Fodio. Give them an inch, and they will have a mile of your land. Next, your wives and your daughters becomes their sex slaves.

You don't have to believe me. Go ask the people of Plateau, Taraba, Nasarawa and Benue.
By the way, you shouldn't have mentioned this other thread here, lest it derails what this one was created for.

I totally fail to understand or comprehend the sort of human beings we call our leaders.
The other time, they talked about importing grasses from Brazil to feed cows. Now they want to appropriate lands for the benefit of Fulani herdsmen whose presence signify death and destruction.

Cattle rearing is a business whose owners are mostly from the north, and the government plans to create grazing reserves (mainly in the south, because that's where most of the grass will grow) for northern cattle businessmen!
Since when has government given such gift to other businesses in the country? Land is a major capital and the north has most of the land mass in Nigeria. I will lose no sleep if the grazing reserve will be created in the north. But we know the target is the middle belt and the south.

Can we finally admit that this country belongs to the Fulanis? The grazing reserve bill is nothing but a sinister move to dominate and subjugate the entire south. Now that their brother is in power, this is the opportunity to make the entire country their caliphate, as was admonished by Ahmadu Bello.

The senators from the south who all kept quiet when the bill passed a first and second reading have a lot to answer for. It seem the life of their people back home isn't worth that of the cattle they are creating the grazing reserves for.

China just signed a $2bn loan deal with Nigeria in Exchange for crude recently. How will the igbos survive in Biafra without any resources?
No doubt, oil is a huge resource. But that is about to become yesterday's news. So are you, if you do nothing but dream and self service with nothing but the thought of crude oil.
You have oil in much abundance, yet you are very poor for it. You are swimming in oil, yet you have no fuel. How backward can you be? Do you know that countries without your crude oil are making more money from it than you do?
They buy your crude oil, refine it, then sell it back to you at huge profit margins. They use their brain, and add value to the product you sold to them, then sell it back to you at higher profits. That's why you are still in the dirt today. A typical black man.

We are still where we are today because we depended on natural resource, rather than human capital. Have you asked yourself how come Europe without any resource, is much more developed than Africa with all it's resources?

You mentioned that Lagos alone is enough to carry the southwest.

Beautiful!
You are beginning to use your brain. Now, ask yourself, what makes Lagos tick? What makes Lagos state produce the highest IGR in Nigeria?
Is it because it has natural resource? Is it because of it's crude oil, gold, diamond or uranium? Of course not! It's because of the human capital. The people who drive it's economy and business enterprises.

Can you see how wisdom is beckoning to you, yet you chose to wallow in the dark? Why isn't Rivers and Bayelsa state richer than Lagos with all their crude oil?

Think about it. That is, if you are able to perform the simple task of thinking. Don't let the "our oyel" mentality keep you in the stone age. Your oil is not, and can never be, your saviour.
PoliticsRe: Reasons Why the Southeast wants Niger delta to join Biafra at all cost by whirlwind7(m):
Ignorance is really a disease.
In this day and age, one retarded fellow is talking about natural resource. Kindly ask yourself, what good has natural resource contributed to the poor masses in Nigeria and Africa?
Except for the political class who have direct access to the wealth derived from natural resources, how has the average denizens benefited from it?

In this case, you talk about oil in the Niger Delta region. Are you too stewpid or too blind to realize how the poor farmers and fishermen in that region have become destitutes due to oil spillage and environmental degradation?
Has your crude oil bettered their lives?
Has it given them better healthcare facilities?
Has it helped reduce maternal mortality and increase life expectancy?
Has it helped bring your people well tarred roads and portable drinking water across communities in the Niger Delta?

If you are an educated youth, with access to the internet and you can follow developments in the western world, yet make this sort of arguement, you should apologize to your parents who wasted scarce resources to give you an education. You have nothing to offer.

Europe is developed today, and yet they have very little to absolutely no resources compared with Africa and Nigeria. See how China has rose to conquer the world today? Is it because they have so much crude oil or gold or diamonds?
Of course not. Development today is driven by HUMAN CAPITAL. This refers to the ideas and potentials enlightened people can come up with that would bring about massive and positive changes.

Mark Zuckerberg and the massive wealth and employment he has created is a product of human capital development.
UAE has become a major player in the Middle East. They diversified from oil, and focused on other areas of development. Their greatest asset today is the quality of human capital they are able to attract from across the world. That dusty desert of the past has become one of the world's leading tourist destinations today. Your political leaders go their to lavish your oil money and come back home to have you lick their ass to boot!

Human capital made the USA a world power, not their natural resource.
If after reading this, and you still chose to swim in your crude oil, then your hopelessness is beyond redemption. I want you to remember that Nigeria was a great country until crude oil was discovered. Crude oil made us to stop using our brain, which was our greatest assest. And that greatness was derived from human capital....the humans who used their expertise to develop agriculture and trade.

After the devastation from the civil war of 1967 to 1970, the entire Igbo land was left in ruins. Now look at the little developmental strides they have been able to achieve, without government intervention. Onitsha, Enugu, Owerri, Awka, Aba and so on, can stand proud when you compare them with other major cities and state capitals. Did these Igbo states get larger allocations from crude oil after the war? In fact, all the millionaires in Igbo land were reduced to paupers after the federal government confiscated their assets and handed them £20 each. With their bare hands and their brains, they built themselves up. THATS WHAT HUMAN CAPITAL DOES. IT MAKES YOU DEVELOP YOURSELF AND YOUR ENVIRONMENT, RATHER THAN BEING A BURDEN TO YOUR ENVIRONMENT.

Lack of human capital development has depleted the north, and now, they are looking to converting the south to grazing reserves for their cows. It's the same resourceful human capital that helped Igbos rose from the ashes after the civil war decimated them. And here you are, thinking that a proud and self recognized Igbo nation needs crude oil to survive! You get sense at all?

Your problem isn't what Biafra wants or doesn't want. Your problem is absolute ignorance.
Wake up and smell the coffee. Your software hasn't been updated since the 80s. Perhaps you hope to be a future leader of your people someday. Focus on crude oil just like your past leaders did, because you have shown you got nothing else to work with.

It all started with General Buhari's 95%-5% statement, it was a devastating blow to the unity of the country and mysteriously the folks seeking for a united nigeria are the ones who supported that statement the most.
Well nigeria expired in 2014 according to the amalgamation agreement, so currently the country is on auto-pilot while buhari gathers the final pieces to the disintegration of the country. Its obvious the south would not tolerate his cattle rearing jihadist even with the backing of the FG
How I wish you are right about this. But the southern states are represented by their senators at the NASS. They were all there, weren't they, when the grazing reserve bill passed a first and second reading. It is about to go through the third reading, and once it sails through this final stage, the president signs it into law.

Can somebody tell me, for instance, what the senators from the SE and SS, 90% of whom are from the opposition party, PDP, were all doing when this bill passed the two stages?

Everyone knows that the intention of this bill is ominous. Fulani herdsmen have been killing and destroying without any repercussion when they illegally invade farms and communities in the south. How much more when they get legal backing from this bill? Do you think they will recognize any boundary made on paper?
