SUPERPACK:You are comparing apples to oranges. Netherlands, Germany and other European countries are socialist or rather welfarist states. There is little rich/poor dichotomy in these countries. Everyone is provide with facilities for a minimum standard of living. Food is cheap and available. Public transportation is cheap and very available. Electricity is available 24/7. You don't need a car, generator, borehole, etc, to get a reasonable high standard of living. Contrast to Nigeria, where public transportation is not available. You have dig and maintain your own borehole, added to that you have to buy drinking water - sachet or bottle water. You have buy and maintain a generator both at work and at home almost 24/7 with petrol at N165 and diesel at N700. No matter how much you earn in Nigeria your living standard will still be poorer than someone living in Netherlands. You cannot be said to be rich in Nigeria if you go to work trekking or riding okada, if your wife enters Danfo to the market or your children enter keke to school. A car is a necessity to live a convenient life. Then the type of car you drive is often associated with how rich your are. Cars are sometimes used as status symbols even in Europe. You can compare someone driving a Japanese car with someone driving a Rolls Royce. |
Ezidimma:No mind them? They are just starting life. When they start their own families and drown on responsibilities, they will know what's up? |
dvkot:3m will get you a tokumbo 2003 -2004 Toyota Camry (pure water). Do you consider a person buying a used Toyota Camry as rich? 30m will buy you the 2021 model Toyota Camry brand new. Do you consider someone driving a 2021 Toyota Camry rich? A brand new Mercedes-Benz GLS-Class 2021 model will go for ₦300,000,000. Now do you consider someone driving it rich? Which of these 3 will you consider rich? The bone of contention is if we can consider someone earning 500k in Nigeria as being rich by International and not Nigerian standard. |
sumboty:Rice is our main diet, so we consume a bag in 2 months. That's why they say 70% of Nigerians live below the poverty line. How can you justify earning below 300k while a bag of rice is N30k, petrol is N165, bottle water is N100, kerosene is 700/litre, cement is N4,500, electricity is N50/Kwh, etc. That's deliberately pauperising the people and justifying corruption, stealing, yahoo and ritual money. |
Androgens:You can't blame Nigerians. They have been traumatised by poverty kick-started by IBB's SAP and concluded by Buhari. The now view basic things taken for granted in other places as being rich. Things like eating a balanced diet, eating at least 2 square meals a day, drinking clean water, having electricity 24/7, wearing new cloths instead of discarded imported cloths, attending good schools, having a basic mode of transportation, living in a nice comfortable house, etc, as being rich. They have redefined being rich as having the basics amenities of life. They think living just means existing. Can 500k provide basic standard of living for a family of 5? That 500k will provide the same standard of living for someone earning a middle range income in the UK. Even people living on dole in council flats will have a better standard of living. |
cornelboy:So it makes sense that a certain humanoid called God happened randomly and then created life systematically? Something must have come from something lifeless to kick-start life or existence, whether it's God, the universe itself or some other phenomenon. Another theory worth considering is the universe has no beginning or ending. Having said all these, the whole thing is irrelevant to me. Life exist and I am alive and I am trying to stay alive for as long as possible. |
cornelboy:I believe everyone should determine the purpose of his own life. My own purpose is to survive and leave a legacy for my children. I don't care how life started, the reality is that it started. Yes we human can do anything we like, except the human is physically medically or mentally restricted. In fact humans have been doing anything they like since the beginning of time. |
bolousadex:An average tokumbo car nowadays costs a minimum of N3m. A average brand new car costs between 15m and 25m and something thinks 1.2 million considers you rich. |
sumboty:You estimations are not realistic. 50k per month to feed a family of 4? Na only garri and ekpa and ogi dem go eat? Ordinary a bag of rice is over 30k. Bean is very expensive. Gas kno? Even kerosene I here is over N700 per litre. Una no go buy meat, fish or chicken? Na only once a day una plan to eat? Will the children not take food to school?. Health plan 7500 per month for a family of 4? Na agbo una go de drink? Or na pastor go dey cure your family? Ordinary malaria tablet is over N1000. I bought augmentin last week for my daughter, it was over N4k. Most of your estimate are unrealistic. |
Esales:Save 3m ke? On a 6m per annum salary? I have friends earning over 12m per year and they can't save zilch. When you have 1 kid in secondary school, 2 kids in a private university and you live in lekki, how will you save? |
Jalaw:It's not show off. The naira is depreciating per second squared. My wife and I took 150k to ketu to buy foodstufs and groceries for the month (for a family of 6). After view what we could buy, I almost cried. A bag of rice was N30,000. 10 tubers of yam was N17,000. Beans and even garri has rocketed to the moon. This thread will advice guys planing on starting a family on the challenges ahead. |
OlawaleBammie:I said it depends on where you live, number of dependants, and standard of living. |
Angelfrost:Banana Island Ke? Your 500k per month (6 million year) will barely pay your service charge for 3 months. I am not talking of rent yet. |
Angelfrost:In Nigeria of today, half a million will not give an average family of 5 what can be considered a good standard of living. |
UyaiIncomparabl:I pay more than N10k per week for electricity for both house and office. I burn more than N10k per week only on petrol for generator to run home and office respectively. |
SlyfoxxjReturns:You are right in terms of salary, but in terms of earnings, many Nigerians earn more than 500k per month. My mechanic earns more than 500k per month. Many retail shop owners earn more than 500k per months. Also many IT skills earn more than 500k per month. |
SUPERPACK:It's more complicated than you are assuming. There are numerous factors that will determine if N500k per month is enough for someone to run himself and his household. Some of these factors are; 1. Number of dependants - wife, children, parents and other extended family members. School fees for 3 children in primary/secondary school alone will gulp between N100,000 - 300,000 per month depending on location and standard of school. And I am not even talking of V/I, Ikoyi, Lekki, Ajah or Ikeja. 2. Rent - this depends on local government of residence and type of house, whether self contained two bedroom or three bedroom. 3. Taste. This is the type of car, clothes, gadgets and even food. Expensive cars are expensive to maintain. 4. Other conveniences like generator, water Dispenser, DSTV, air-conditioner, etc can be quite expensive. In summary for a bachelor or a small family unit living in low priced apartment in low to medium residential areas not to far from the office and nothing too extravant, you can be considered rich. But for a man with responsibilities for more than 6 people, living in quality apartment in medium to high brow residential areas. You are poor |
I love this video which started with public debate or lecture on Islam. Aman (probably muslim) asking the Muslim cleric why God gets angry and resorts to threats of hell and punishment just because people decide to worship another God (a common attrubute of the Abrahamic Gods). He asked if these are not egotistical human traits which should be beneath the qualities an omnipotent and omniscient God. The cleric went on a stupid ramble of how worshiping and praising God( Allah) benefits only the worshipper and not God, because its an advice form God, and that following God's advice provides benefits. Anyway, after a clip of Sadhguru's views on religion was added. He explained why religion is the greatest cause of conflict on earth and why why people use religion as a cover for all types of atrocities. To me it explains why Nigeria despite being one of the most religious countries of the world is also have one of the most wicked, heartless, corrupt, deceitful and selfish people. Watch it and give your opinions https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzJVnPJ3LyI |
christejames:Someone that jumped bail? You need to watch Dog and Beth on DSTV and see how they burst into homes to arrest fugitives that jump bail. I will only fault the EFCC if they don't have an arrest warrant from the courts. |
writeprof:Believe me my eyes opened over 30 years ago. I woke up from the matrix to realize that a God that I have to bribe before he protects me is worse than Nigerian police. A creator that is not aware of the needs of his creations and needs to be asked before he provides is a poor creator. A God that can be commanded by man is a weak God. A God that suffers all the primitive human emotions of anger, fear, jealousy and revenge is a vain God. |
Xedmark:Most people here don't have experience with Nigerian police. They don't care about the truth or justice, they only care about how much money they can squeeze from each case. He has already made too many blunders, for example buying an apple device second hand from unknown source, paying cash for the item, not collecting receipt of the transaction and contacting the owner directly with his real contact details. He should never go to the police station alone without a lawyer and a respected senior family member, preferable a security officer. Else he will be locked up and exploited. He will be locked up and asked to bail himself with ridiculous amount of money. My advice is he should go and make a report at the nearest police station with lawyer and a respected senior person. He should write a full statement with all evidence attached, including contact details of the girl. He definitely will be arrested and the laptop will be seized as exhibit. But his lawyer and the respected elder will get him out on bail same day with minimal amount of money. The police will then commence their investigations. The onus of finding the girl is on you. You will need to provide necessary information and sponsor the trip to find and arrest the girl. If you had transacted with bank transfer, it would have been easier tracing her through her bank. But since you used cash, the only other means of tracing her is through her phone numbers. And phone number tracing can be expensive. I hope you get out of your predicaments safely. |
Afonjakid:Don't mind them, they are supporting criminals killing their own people in order to blame fulani, Buhari, DSS and others. IPOB just like boko Haram has numerous fractions with some violent and criminal minded. Soludo thinks he is still a banker, he has not yet realize that to govern Nigeria you have become an agbero. Hope Uzodinma, a natural agbero took the fight to ipob and other criminals. He brought in the DSS, police and military to flush criminals terrorising whole communities. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyRt622l60k |
Ikinternational:Making excuses and attacking the messenger instead of the message, due to tribal or religious sentiments. This should not be about whether all caucasian wealthy men's hands are clean in comparism to your tribesmen but about the safety of Nigerians. It's not only airpeace that the "outsider" has reviewed, he had reviewed many other airlines in Nigeria and other countries. That's his niche. He makes YouTube videos of airline services in many countries of the world, particularly airlines with reputable poor services. Airpeace services are atrocious. I know a young pilot that resigned last week from airpeace. He said that the number of operating planes have reduced from 15 to just 2. He said most times the air-conditioning in the cockpit is not working and had to fly the plane sweating. He went to look for job outside the shores of Nigeria. |
tayo60:After the excessive exploitation, they will still demand the son in law sponsors the education of one of their sons or send one of their sons abroad. In addition to that they also expect periodic monetary gifts. |
writeprof:Quit that rubbish. A God that was supposed to have created the universe doesn't need to blackmail you for money. You cannot give anything valuable to God outside praise and worship according to real Christianity. The doctrine of tithes is 419 pastors are using to live extravagant lives off their poor members. |
I witness something similar when one of the son of the late chairman of the National sports commission under IBB wanted to take a igbo wife. The guy went to the traditional wedding with over N1 million in his pocket. After consistent billing, he ran out of cash and had to start borrowing from his brother. It got to a stage where he got annoyed and walked out, saying he was no longer interested in the marriage. Come see begging. It took the intervention of many guest for the guy to come back. After which we was immidiately handed over his wife. |
Danibonk:But the girl is pregnant. That means the girls father will adopt the child while the guy goes to search for another wife, according to igbo culture. |
Drama as bridegroom walks out of engagement ceremony in Isiala Ngwa due to extortion. He paid N1,500,000 to cater for food, tents, chairs and a public address system. He was also made to set aside N100,000 as the bride price that the two families had agreed on. Okwudili was asked to add N50,000 to the bride price because he had already impregnated the girl. He was slapped with a N10,000 fine for making a detour to the wrong path and ending up in a different homestead instead of the girl's. He was also asked to pay N15,000 to appease the elders who had become tired of waiting for his arrival. Drama however ensued when twelve girls covered in loose robes from head to toe were paraded before Okwudili and he was asked to guess who his fiancée was. He pointed at the wrong woman and that lead to yet another fine of N15,000 thrice The decisive moment specifically was when the elders demanded for a refund of the total sum of N850,000 that had been paid as the girl's school fees and upkeep since she started primary school! Fuming with anger which he tried his best to hide, Okwudili excused himself to visit a nearby latrine and disappeared! He switched off his phone and was last seen in a bus heading to Lagos from Owerri. https://dailynewsreporters.com/man-absconds-from-marriage-ceremony-in-isiala-ngwa-over-incessant-demands/ |
sukkot:You are not getting cheated and you are not doing any philanthropy. That the current market price of plantain. Plantain is off season right now and so very scarce. You are even lucky to see plantain, my wife had not been able to see plantain to buy since yesterday. I usually eat plantain with my beans. I have to switch over to sweet potato as plantain is very expensive if you see it to buy. In another month or so the price will come down to normal. That's how other seasonal crops like tomatoes, onions and even yams fluctuate in price. |
