The North will show you love to your face and on the eleventh hour, they will betray you. The North will never support any southern candidate unless they will benefit from it. And they have calculated and GEJ is the best bet, if at all they are to support a southern candidates.

Take your time, stroll out, meet a Hausa man in your locality, ask him about the election and if they will support GEJ or Tinubu, if he is sincere, you will get your answer.

I tend to agree with you. GEJ is the only other politician that has national appeal to take on Atiku. Tinubu is popular in the South West, but in the North, he is only popular among the political elites (for obvious reasons). He is not popular among the ordinary people. In the SS/SE, Tinubu will not get the required 25%. He is loathed in the SS. He has no political relevance in the SS/SE. Atiku is hugely popular in the SS/SE. Even in the South West Atiku will drag it with Tinubu.

Goodluck Jonathan is quite popular with the Northern masses. Has the SS/SE in the pocket. Not so popular in the Southwest, but still make the required 25%. This must the the calculation of Buhari for dragging Goodluck Jonathan into APC send into the presidential race.

So southerners have to make a choice. Support Jonathan and make do with 4 year rule or have another northerner - Atiku president for another 8 years.

Wealth is not strictly about about savings, assets, equities, etc., it is about how much you earn in relation to how much you spend.

If you earn N500k and your running and living cost is N400k, you cannot be said to be rich. If you living cost is over N500k, you are poor.

If I go two times that’s 5k X 30days ( 75k)
That is someone’s ‘good’ salary on food alone .

You calculation is off. If you eat 2500 per meal 2 times a day for 30days.That will total 150,000 per month and not 75,000. And we have not added medemede and ijekuje (snacks) yet. By the time we total everything, you will spend nothing less that N200,000 on food and drinks alone.

Even if you eat the barest minimum that can still be considered as food, and spend 500 per meal twice a day at "mama put", you will still spend a minimum of 30,000 per month on food alone. And someone here says a family of 4 can feed on N50 000 a month. It betrays the quality of what he considers as food.

You don't need to buy a car to be rich, cars are just means of transportation and where a Range Rover can take you to, Camry can do same whether tokumbo or fifth hand.

Luxury is not a measure for wealth.

You are comparing apples to oranges. Netherlands, Germany and other European countries are socialist or rather welfarist states. There is little rich/poor dichotomy in these countries. Everyone is provide with facilities for a minimum standard of living. Food is cheap and available. Public transportation is cheap and very available. Electricity is available 24/7. You don't need a car, generator, borehole, etc, to get a reasonable high standard of living.

Contrast to Nigeria, where public transportation is not available. You have dig and maintain your own borehole, added to that you have to buy drinking water - sachet or bottle water. You have buy and maintain a generator both at work and at home almost 24/7 with petrol at N165 and diesel at N700. No matter how much you earn in Nigeria your living standard will still be poorer than someone living in Netherlands.

You cannot be said to be rich in Nigeria if you go to work trekking or riding okada, if your wife enters Danfo to the market or your children enter keke to school. A car is a necessity to live a convenient life.

Then the type of car you drive is often associated with how rich your are. Cars are sometimes used as status symbols even in Europe. You can compare someone driving a Japanese car with someone driving a Rolls Royce.

How can you justify earning below 300k while a bag of rice is N30k, petrol is N165, bottle water is N100, kerosene is 700/litre, cement is N4,500, electricity is N50/Kwh, etc. That's deliberately pauperising the people and justifying corruption, stealing, yahoo and ritual money.

You can't blame Nigerians. They have been traumatised by poverty kick-started by IBB's SAP and concluded by Buhari. The now view basic things taken for granted in other places as being rich. Things like eating a balanced diet, eating at least 2 square meals a day, drinking clean water, having electricity 24/7, wearing new cloths instead of discarded imported cloths, attending good schools, having a basic mode of transportation, living in a nice comfortable house, etc, as being rich. They have redefined being rich as having the basics amenities of life. They think living just means existing.

Can 500k provide basic standard of living for a family of 5?
That 500k will provide the same standard of living for someone earning a middle range income in the UK. Even people living on dole in council flats will have a better standard of living.

House rent 600k per annum
NEPA bills on prepare meter 10k card per month
= 120k per annum
Let's say you have a car, or not 25k per month
= 300k per annum
Other expenses 20k per month
= 240k per annum
Miscellaneous per month 10k per month
= 120k per annum

Total = 2.97m let's round it up 3m
Giving additional spending of 500k to the above analysis making 3.5m spending per annum, then you have 2.5m balance as savings x in 5yrs = 12.5m
In 10yrs = 25m

Also take in mind, that 2.5m savings per annum can still increase if other business is involve.....

The above analysis is just an average assumption..

What I've noticed about many of us in Nigeria is that most of us want to get rich in a day or in one single business deal or investment.

50k per month to feed a family of 4? Na only garri and ekpa and ogi dem go eat? Ordinary a bag of rice is over 30k. Bean is very expensive. Gas kno? Even kerosene I here is over N700 per litre. Una no go buy meat, fish or chicken? Na only once a day una plan to eat? Will the children not take food to school?.
Health plan 7500 per month for a family of 4? Na agbo una go de drink? Or na pastor go dey cure your family? Ordinary malaria tablet is over N1000. I bought augmentin last week for my daughter, it was over N4k.

Live in face me I slap you, eat in the cheapest bukka, buy 2nd hand clothes, jump bus and trek to work. Anything outside this sort of lifestyle, you can't even save 3m.

Save 3m ke? On a 6m per annum salary? I have friends earning over 12m per year and they can't save zilch. When you have 1 kid in secondary school, 2 kids in a private university and you live in lekki, how will you save?

It's not show off. The naira is depreciating per second squared. My wife and I took 150k to ketu to buy foodstufs and groceries for the month (for a family of 6). After view what we could buy, I almost cried. A bag of rice was N30,000. 10 tubers of yam was N17,000. Beans and even garri has rocketed to the moon.

This thread will advice guys planing on starting a family on the challenges ahead.

It’s not average oga get your facts right. With a 500k monthly income, you are easily in the top 5% of salary earners in Nigeria.

Does that make you rich? I guess not but that’s another testament to how bad things are in this country that 500k puts you in the “elite” bracket.

You are right in terms of salary, but in terms of earnings, many Nigerians earn more than 500k per month. My mechanic earns more than 500k per month. Many retail shop owners earn more than 500k per months. Also many IT skills earn more than 500k per month.
