It's only that with the advent of the Internet, these crimes are being reported more. For example, Catholic priests had been molesting children for decades (if not centuries ), but we are only hearing of it recently.

Secondly, I hate the idea of someone trying to impose his own doctrines and moral standard on others, that's called religious fundamentalism. We are practicing democracy, a system of governance that relies on laws, as long as people comply with the constitution and extant laws, you have no business with them. You can control your children and your family, but how how others live their lives is non of your business. You are free to filter or even ban your personal webspace and even physical space. What's your business with the space of others? The responsibility of instilling moral codes on your family lies with you and not the government.
Countries that don't impose moral laws on its citizens eg, Sweden, France, Norway, fair much better morally than countries that do, eg Nigeria, Saudi Arabia and the US.
