Pangea:Send people to prison ? Ordinary prosecution of suspected criminal politicians in court, you will hear shouts of victimization, witch haunting, is he the only one, etc, by his family, tribe, region, religion and political party. |
byrron:If you are afflicted with myopia, let me increase the font so you can see it better; 5. (1) Subject to the provisions of this Constitution, the executive powers of the Federation: (a) shall be vested in the President and may subject as aforesaid and to the provisions of any law made by the National Assembly, be exercised by him either directly or through the Vice-President and Ministers of the Government of the Federation or officers in the public service of the Federation; Now if your problem is comprehension, then let me break it down for you; It means the executive powers of the Federation is vested in the president and he can exercise such powers directly or though the Vice - president and ministers or other public officers appointed by the president. I hope i have been of help. Sorry, i forgot; Now let me tell you my understanding of Sec 138, Sec 147 (2), Sec 149 of the Nigerian constitution; It simply means the President cannot hold the office of the President (which is chief executive of all executive positions) with another executive position (especially a paid one). It does not mean he cannot be president of OAU or ECOWAS. |
byrron:Wailing for too long seem to have made some people develop psychosis. They dont even seem to understand what a presidential system of government means. Furthermore they can't seem to have the ability to read and understand the Nigerian constitution and can only read meanings to sections of the constitution that has no bearing whatsoever to the topic under discussion. Please read section chapter 1, part 2, subsection 5(1) which states :- 5. (1) Subject to the provisions of this Constitution, the executive powers of the Federation: (a) shall be vested in the President and may subject as aforesaid and to the provisions of any law made by the National Assembly, be exercised by him either directly or through the Vice-President and Ministers of the Government of the Federation or officers in the public service of the Federation; Tell me what you understand by the bolded, if you still possess the ability to read and comprehend. |
What is the value of the petition? Is the senate a court now that can finds ministerial nominees guilty? If the petition is about Amaechi not having the required qualification to be a minister or has been declared guilty by a competent court, then no problem, But the Senate cannot declare Amaechi guilty based on allegations by Wike and PDP. If all it takes for stopping a person from becoming minister is simply a petition, then nobody would ever become minister. If Amaechi can be stopped from being minister simply based on a petition, how come Saraki that is facing criminal charges and Buruji that is a fugitive still remain senators. |
gbemtrol:My brother thank you for this your contribution, it shows we still have intelligent and dispassionate Nigerians and not ethnic bigots blinded by tribal hatred and a false sense of superiority. Let me make it loud and clear:- It is our obligation to make sure northern Nigeria and the rest of Nigeria and attains a minimum level of literacy. If we don't we (i mean all of us )will suffer the consequences for decades to come. High level of illiteracy leads to radicalism and subsequently instability. Even if Nigeria divides into 6 separate countries an unstable north east would have dire consequences for the rest and the whole sub-region. An unstable Somalia is having serious consequence on Kenya. The State Government's should make primary and secondary education free or at least subsidized, instead of all the useless white elephant projects they embark on in order to embezzle money. |
xtrorse:It pains me greatly to reply ethnic bigots - dumb ones at that, but it is an obligation to put you where you belong. Who are or were slavemasters and who are slaves in Nigeria. The itsekiris had never been slaves to anybody, you would not find itsekiri slave descendants in the Americas or Europe. That designation belongs to your people. We know our worth in Nigeria, nobody can ignore the Itsekiris and Ijaws in Nigeria and even the international community. What has kept us from achieving our full potential is inter and intra ethnic squabbles. The day the Itsekiris, the Ijaws, the Urhobos and the Isokos come together to pursue a common agenda, nothing can resist us. We are not given to chest beating and playing the victim card. What concerns us with your quest for self determination? whether you have your Biafra or not, how are we affected? In fact it would be beneficial as Warri would be decongested of your people. How many Itsekiris, Ijaws and Urhobos will you find in Igboland. Please start a proper and legal process of Secession, you have my vote. Why is it only the 104 unity secondary schools that you are obsessed with? why are you not quarrelling with the quota system criteria in admissions into NDA, Immigration, customs and other federal government parastatals? You think without quota system Igbos would gain admission into the military? Thank God for Obasanjo that made sure quota system was observed in admission into NDA. Before that time Nigeria's military was largely dominated by northerners with very few Igbo officers. As i said, Federal Secondary Schools is not a do or die affair for Igbos. |
Grundig:The senators are just being immature in their tit for tat quarrel with the president. All executive powers reside in the president, it is only when he wants to appoint aids also called ministers (which Buhari prefers to call noise makers), that he needs senate approvals. So whether the senators approve the budget or not, the ministries would run. |
xtrorse:You are just ranting here and there without any sense or direction. If you want to discus any of the issues you raised and other injustices and imbalances in the Nigeria federation, open individual topics on them and we can discuss. The topic here is the alleged injustice against Igbos tribes in admissions into unity schools. As they say, the most empty drum makes the loudest noise. The people that has the oil that run this country hardly make any noise, but you people that have little or no oil make the loudest claim that you feed Nigeria. Ijaws and Itsekiris, two tribes that contribute more than 50% of Nigeria's oil revenue hardly talk, it is the Igbos that contribute less than 5% Nigeria's oil revenue that makes the loudest noise. For your information my local government area - Warri North contribute more oil revenue than all the Igbos states and communities added together. Back to the Topic, Unity schools were set up for a purpose, if you do not agree with the principles it was set up to achieve, simply do not apply to send your kids there. If less and less Igbos apply, maybe the cut off mark will reduce to 50. In the alternative, if you are so pained by Unity Schools, write a petition to the national assembly through your senators and representatives, demanding a repeal or amendment of the laws setting it up. You can get other like minded comrades and lead a protest to the National assembly. It is Futile and unreasonable to the ranting and wailing all over social media, screaming Igbos victimization. You are only embarrassing other reasonable Igbos. |
Why is it that only Igbos wail about the inequal cut off mark for admission into Unity Schools? Are they the only tribe in Nigeria. Is it by force to send your Children to Unity Schools? There are only 104 federal unity schools in Nigeria - http://toscanyacademy.com/blog/nigeria-education/list-of-federal-unity-colleges-in-nigeria/, Meanwhile there are tens of thousands of secondary schools in Nigeria - State and public owned, why not send your highly intelligent kids there. Better still why not lobby your governors to set up dis-unity schools in your region, and set up whatever criteria you like for admission. |
kazmanbanjoko:I dont believe the Sun of UK wrote this, or have they too joined the Lagos - Ibadan Expressway, APC propaganda press? |
EgusiSoup:The above statement is highly subjective, it has no connection with objective reality. That you think of her being lovely and beautiful does not mean every body sees her so. She might be kind to you (probably you belong to her family, tribe or region), but that does not mean she is kind to others. Here is a woman who has been recognized all over the world as a game changer in the oil and gas sector, a woman the world appointed to be the OPEC chairman inspite of numerous challenges and hurdles limiting women in terms of gender discrimination, a woman of class, respect and dexterity. She was not appointed OPEC chairman, it was Nigeria that was appointed chairman (this was not the first time), as a prominent member of OPEC, any Nigeria petroleum minister would automatically fill the post. If my hero, Deziani Alison-Madueke is corrupt as these Northern cabals say, why has OPEC not relieved her of her appointment?? Where is the evidence that she is what they say she is? They may try to paint her as a devil but the only statement I have in her defence is that "he who is without sin should cast the first stone"Ignorance at its best. She is no longer the OPEC chairman, the minute Jonathan lost the elections, she stopped being OPEC chairman. The next Petroleum minister would be OPEC chairman or the chairmanship would go to another country. Wait for commencement of the trial to see the evidence against her. The trial is happening in the UK and not in Nigeria, so you cannot accuse the FG of judicial interference. When the British prosecutors present their evidence, i am sure she would plead guilty just like Ibori. I have decided to go on a one month dry fasting on her behalf and I plead with all well meaning nairalanders to join me in this fast as we intercede for this living legend. And how does that affect your life? don't you have better things to fast and pray for like getting a job, having your own house, improving your educational qualifications, etc. |
stanech:I cannot excuse sylvia and Audu, but i am not aware of any charges against Amaechi in any court of Law. Is Amaechi declared guilty because PDP and Wike allege so? If PDP was so sure Audu and Sylvia were guilty, why were they not conclusively prosecuted all these years of PDP rule? If they had witch hunted them and jailed them, we would have one less witch to deal with and not attempting to come back to witch rule us. |
LadyExcellency:What exactly are you trying to say? You are just trying to excuse the obvious gaffe by Jonathan, instead of you guys to simply say Jonathan made a mistake and misunderstood the statements of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, you are here talking rubbish. Jonathan was not talking about stealing in isolation, and in fact had never referred to general stealing, he had always made reference to stealing as regards stealing of public funds. He had always down played official stealing which he regards as not a serious an offence (remember, how much did Jim Nwobodo stole...). what Jonathan said was ORDINARY stealing and the call it corruption. Now does that statement look like Jonathan sees official stealing as a serious offense? |
ODUBEZE:If he was framed, why not go to British courts and prove he was framed? His crime was; he jumped bail. So until he goes back to UK to answer the charges, he is a fugitive. |
denko:I am amazed by these Buhari haters, it seems to be a Buhari hater requires an IQ of less than 10. When Buhari's security aids denied access to AIT from covering his personal events before he became president, all hell was let loose by TANiods and 5 percenters on the accusation of vindictiveness and victimization of the press. Now these same people are asking how much Buhari as president pays to the same AIT to cover Independence day broadcasts. They raised absurdity to new levels by asking how much the federal government pays NTA - a government own TV station, how much they charge the Federal government for hourly coverage of Federal Government activities. |
evilspirit:Yes GSM licence was sold for $285 million each . Econet and MTN were able to beat the deadline for payment, but Adenuga's CTL was unable to meet the deadline so they had to forfeit their $20 milliondeposit. Less than a year latter Adenuga through his new company Globacom paid $200 million dollars for national carrier license, meaning he can operate all telecommunication services including international gateway and not just GSM References - http://naijagists.com/mike-adenuga-biography-the-richest-man-in-nigeria/ edit: I mistakenly wrote the Globacom bought the national carrier license for $1BILLION, it was actually $200 million. Apologies for the mix up. |
Tomjazzy2:You refused to discus further on NCC, so i assume you admit you did not look critically at the fallacious academic work that says NCC is not a revenue generating agency. Even at the begining of GSM introduction in Nigera, NCC sold GSM licenses for more than $600million. Glo alone bought the 2nd National carrier license for 1billion dollars. I left out the CBN delibrately because the CBN is more complex. It is not strictly a revenue generating agency as its function is primarily to act as a Banker to the federal government, But ECN101 would tell you that CBNs all over the world also acts as banker to the private banks ie commercial, investment and all other banks. Now are you telling me CBN provides banking services to Banks for free? You are just looking for excuses to insult your president (yes, your president), and you look for the most stupid excuse to do so. About the discrepancies in the populations figures, you should know that Nigeria's population figures is in dispute. Even the website you provides says; According to UN projection, as on July 1 2014, the population of Nigeria was 178,517,000.The figures were not termed official like the others, it is just an educated guess. So you are just making a mountain out of a mole hill. |
Tomjazzy2:Nigeria is the only country in the world where a stark illiterate feels he knows better than professors. Like the saying goes, he who knows not and knows not that he knows not, is a f**l. Buhari's speech was written by competent experts and academicians, whom you are not fit to shine their shoes. A simple google search would have illuminated your ignorance. Nigeria is reputed to be the 9th most populous nation on earth - http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0004391.html NCC is not a revenue generating agency? Please what school did you attend. I need to tell my friends and even my enemies to avoid sending their children to that school. NCC sell all sorts of licences, they collect revenues and fines from all telecomunication companies. They sell licences to TV and radio stations all over the country, and lots of other revenue generating activities. Even Internet service providers have to pay NCC for their spectrum. See spectrum fees and prices here - http://www.ncc.gov.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=85&Itemid=99 |
tech·no·crat \ˈtek-nə-ˌkrat\ : a scientist or technical expert who has a lot of power in politics or industry Full Definition 1: an adherent of technocracy 2: a technical expert; especially : one exercising managerial authority |
chuna1985:Seun needs put install age verification on nairaland before allowing registration, there are too many senseless threads by immature children on this forum lately. This one is telling us that only Igbos are technocrats (i wonder if the OP understands this word) and Fashola and Fayemi does not fit the his definition. I keep feeling that Igbos have a general complex problem, because we are inundated daily by Igbos are this, Igbos are that and all others are not. A person does not bestow greatness on himself, greatness is bestowed by a consensus of others. |
eventsms:Let me give my own opinion on the genuiness of the reasons. I would like to ask, have MASSOB and Chief Ralph Uwazurike made an official presentation to the UN stating these genuine reasons? One of the reasons, he stated, was that the population of the former Eastern state, now South East and part of South South that make up Biafra land can currently boast of over 10 million people, adding that the Biafran people naturally do not share similar culture and tradition with Hausa-Fulani of the North and Yoruba of the South West as to continue to remain together under one country called Nigeria.Poor reason. Population in itself is not a valid reason for secession. There are many sovereign states with population less than 1 million and there are sovereign states with population of over 1 billion. Sharing similar culture and tradition is not necessary a basis for secession, else countries like USA, South Africa, Canada and most African states with multicultural and multiracial population would not exist. Nigeria is made up of over 250 ethnic groups and not just Hausa-Fulani and Yoruba, so you cannot bases your argument for secession based on your dislike for just 2 ethnic groups. Besides, you people always add other ethnic groups in the South South to your Biafra, like the Annangs, the Ijaws, the Calabaris, etc. Are you not still creating a mini Nigeria? According to Uwazuruike, another reason was that MASSOB, as a separatist group, had all it takes to run a sovereign state of Biafra, having had enough instruments, structures, flag,Biafra does not have a currency, nor a central bank, Biafra does not have any military or police, so this is a white lie. A flag and logo does not connote instruments of states as every organization has them. Uwazuruike, who spoke to newsmen, yesterday in Onitsha, Anambra State, through MASSOB’s Deputy National Director of Information, Mazi Chris Mocha, ahead of the on-going UN General Assembly, renewed his call on the world body to accord a recognition to Biafra as a sovereign state, just as it did to South Sudan which had been accorded a sovereign status since July 9, 2011.Where did he call and re-call the UN to accord recognition to Biafra? Why did he not go to Newyork and protest in front of the UN building during the General Assembly. He recalled that US had classifiedNigeria had never been classified as a failed state. Even Sudan and Ethiopia had never been classified as a failed state. A failed state is a state without a recognized government. Only Somalia fit that classification. |
tonychristopher:And that makes you very happy. |
tonychristopher:Do you have comprehension deficit disorder? The report says he was taken to different gates. It was not the same gate twice. The UN building has many gates, only one is reserved for presidents and heads of states. See how PDP and 5 percenters are ecstatic with joy, you would think Nigeria won the world cup. These people can even commit suicide to make sure Buhari fails or is embarrassed. |
Mogidi:Did you read the report at all or you are reading another article. It says Buhari went to the venue twice and on each occasion was taken to the wrong gate. It is now obvious that the 5 precenters are out to embarrass the president and can do anything to achieve their aims. And someone will still criticize Buhari for being afraid ti appoint the 5 percenters in this government. |
DikeOha882:Itsekiris are not great achievers? The first post independence finance minister was an Itsekiri man(who was killed by the Igbos in their ill conceived coup). Itsekiris encountered western education ever before the Igbos. An itsekiri (Nana) took on the British military might(and lost due to betrayal), when the Igbos dear not question their colonial master, and some ignoramus is here saying the Itsekiris are not achievers. Well i will not descend my self further by this childish dick measuring competition,so i agree with you, Igbos are the master superior tribe in Nigeria. Are you happy now. |
speak2emmalex:Please tell me this achievement of the Igbo that i am trying to discredit. Please explain to me what the Igbos have contributed to civilization. You are another schizophrenic that see Yoruba in his dreams and waking hours. Every body that disagrees with you must be Yoruba. I think this problem is more widespread among Igbos that acknowledged. The Governments needs to build more psychiatric hospitals in the east. |
ragiluhivo:Frustrated under-achiever. You cannot claim the achievements of other Igbo achievers. Try and achieve something in your life instead of hiding under the " achievements of Igbos" to make yourself feel good. I cannot help you with the fact that you have nightmares of Yoruba men chasing you in your dreams. You will need to go to Yaba left for help. |
DikeOha882:Between you and i, who sounds like someone with low esteem. Who is arguing with you that Igbos are great people? Igbos being great people does not make you great. You have to achieve personal feats to be great. For your information, there is no tribe or race without great people and mediocre people, but the mediocre can not hide under the shadow of the great and claim greatness. |
MrRobot:Some Igbos like the poster and some of his comrades has what can be termed egocentric problems. An igboman does something great, means Igbos are great and therefore i am great and better than others. That is what i call a fallacy. The problem is that they look for every mediocre achievement to call great. There is nothing fantastic about the so called PAY-LOADER. It is only a toy. High school children in the US and Japan ar able to build much more complicated toys. Yes is is encouraging for a 13 yr to be able build toys, but what is more important and be emphasized is the science behind such toys. Students from 12 to 15 yrs old should be taught basic science of Mechanics and electricity, so they understand how to apply science to technology to build and design things in the future. When i was 13, my friends and i were already building analogue AM transmitters using a few transistors and conductors for fun. Then there was lots of emphasis on science education. |
Mr Solomon Tonye has issues which require medical help. He has morbid fear of the party called APC, he thinks about APC day and night. In fact he imagines all his life problems is caused by APC. i doubt he sleeps at night because of this fear. In addition to that he has a huge problem of self importance. He sees his write ups and posts on social media as the best think to happen to literature and politics. This is because of the number of likes PDP sympathizers on nairaland gives everything he posts. He is full of himself that he believes the whole world APC, PDP, Buhari, Tinubu and even Mark Zukerberg read his posts. His other major problem is that he lives in a virtual world, he can't function outside social media, especially nairaland. Even seun the owner of nairaland has a life outside social media. I wonder if he has other commitments like a job, a girl friend and other responsibilities. Since you have violated Facebook's rules by having two different accounts with different names, please verify your valid identity (unless Tonye Solomon is also a fake name) and stop seeing demons (APC) in your predicament. APC has nothing to do with Facebook. I can't remember how many websites i have had to send my ID in order to verify my identity. If APC (which controls the government) wants to trace you, they would not need Facebook to do it. They can trace you from your IP or even your phone (unless you did not give your biometrics to your network provider). Hacking into your computer is a fairly easy thing to do if you have the right tools. My brother get off social media for a few days and enjoy what the real world. |
Ugomba:You people are always talking thrash. You talk as if there was a republic of southern Nigeria and eastern Nigeria before Luggard amalgamated the north and south. The only part of Nigeria that had a recognizable political structure pre-colonization was northern Nigeria under Usman Dan folio and south west Nigeria held together by Alaafin of Oyo. South East was a collection of independent villages with closely related language and culture, it was never a single political unit. South South was a mosaic of independent tribes each with different languages and cultures. The British actually signed treaties with each independent tribe. So anyone suggesting we jettison the British political arrangement is suggesting we go back to being independent tribes and villages. |
