These cars aren't really that expensive, I wish the car companies that make electric cars should advertise more in Nigeria. We need more cars like this, it saves cost and helps the environment. But Nigerians will always prefer Lexus 570 to prove you are a big boy. It is well. Hope he achieves what he told us about the cars.
I am sure you do not know what you are talking about, Solar cars are forking expensive. Solar anything is expensive, especially the initial cost. Even in advanced nations only the super rich can afford solar cars.

Having said that, from the photo of the car, i doubt this car is a solar car. Where are the solar panels? I suspect it is an electric car.

Why do we have to rely on foreign car companies to make and advertise electric cars for us? Why can our universities and polytechnics build it? It is a shame that the blackman always have to depend on the white man to solve his problem? I am ashamed when i go to tertiary institutions in Nigeria and i see the main mode of transportation is kekes (tricycle), Okadas and taxis. Converting a keke to electric is a fairly simple process that any reputable mechanical and electrical engineering faculty can easily build.

This is a project i would have love to embark on if i was younger and still in school, as battery and DC motor technology has greatly improved.

With that being said, the average igbo can criticise whoever he or she pleases, that why you see most igbo governors on their toes working and the slacking ones being stoned.
This is a disadvantage rather than an asset. A society without a leader, where a king can be challenged and insulted is a recipe fpr anarchy. Successful societies must have strong and respected leaders.

PoliticsRe: PDP Rejects Zakari As INEC Boss by wirinet(m): 8:53pm On Jul 01, 2015
MeesterMAN:
The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has rejected the appointment of Mrs. Amina Zakari as the Acting National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

Zakari was appointed as the acting boss of the commission on Tuesday by President Muhammadu Buhari following the conclusion of the term of office of Prof. Attahiru Jega.

The Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Danladi Kifasi, who conveyed the appointment in a letter, said the appointment was with effect from 30th June 2015 until the appointment of a substantive Chairman.

But before her appointment was announced, Jega had handed over to Amb. Mohammed Wali, a national commissioner of the commission from Sokoto State.

While rejecting the appointment of Zakari, the PDP alleged that the new acting boss of the electoral body “is too close to the Presidency.”
National Publicity Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, stated his party’s position at a crowded press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
Metuh said his party would want the acting chairman of the commission to state her alleged closeness to the Presidency and one of the governors of the All Progressives Congress from the North-West.
Can PDP/TANoids explain what the bolded statement above means. What is the meaning of " too close to the Presidency"?

Which fact and figures did madam world bank reply? The same woman that does not know how much subsidy she paid oil marketers and how much she owed them. The same woman that has no clue on how much oil revenue Nigeria earns and how much of it was remitted into the federation account. The same woman that has no idea of how much waivers she granted people and companies, thereby defrauding Nigerians of billions of dollars.

Oshiomole is asking simple questions;

How much revenue was acrued into the federation for the time in question? There are so many components of revenue accruable to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. These are;
1. Oil revenue from NNPC
2. Gas Revenue from NLNG
3. Tax revenues including VAT, and various taxes.
4. Import duty taxes and duties from customs.
5. Other revenues generated from other agencies like immigration, maritime, ports, NCC and lots more.

Once again what was the Total revenue earned by all agencies under her supervision as Finance Minister and coodinating Minister of the economy?

She is only fixated on money shared from the Excess Crude Account without providing the facts and figures on total oil revenue accrued into the federation account.

didn't you also read that the their of a 'dead man' was also brought before the judge for stealing the aluminum roofing sheets? The their wasn't 'killed' he was probably 'panel heated to a near death state'
I am sorry for not seeing the obvious contradictions in the report. When i saw the headline and the word "lynched" i assumed that the victim was actually murdered. The journalist did not even bother to specify what the accused pleaded guilty to. It definitely cannot be murder. Besides as it has been noted, a magistrate court has no jurisdiction over murder cases.

Obviously what the accused was charged for and he pleaded guilty for must have been assault and battery, which probably carries a jail term less than 6 months with the option of a fine.

I still think the judge erred in law by acquitting someone who pleaded guilty to an offense. The best she should have done was to give the minimum sentence according to the law, maybe a fine.

Since the plaintive is an accused thief, the lawyers of the man accused of assault should have sued the guy for theft and even robbery of his aluminium parts before the same judge. The sentence for theft is far more serious that that of assault.

NIJ seriously needs to look into the quality of journalist our institutions are churning out.

The court of appeal would nullify the judgement. Even if the judge had been bribe, she should not have adviced the accused to plead guilty. She should have simply dismissed the case for lack of evidence (even if they produce a video evidence of the accused killing the victim). It would have made the case more difficult at the appeal court.
CrimeRe: Court Discharges Murder Suspect For Showing Remorse by wirinet(m): 5:02pm On Jun 30, 2015
This case been made worse for the accused and possibly the judge. The accused has already pleaded guilty to murder, so he has been comfirmed to be a convicted murderer. The only problem now is the sentence or penalty. The judge does not have the power to discharge a convicted felon. The sentense is specified according to the criminal code. The punishment specified varies from 20 years to life depending on if the accused pleaded gulity to first degree or second degree murder. All the plaintive or an interested party needs to do is to appeal the judgement at the appeal court, and appropriate punishmnet according to the law would be handed the convicted murderer.

The appeal court cannot even review the case itself, only the judgement.

Please calm down you seem quite agitated.

The issue of weather the US is more advanced than Nigeria or weather loads of Nigerians want US visa's is really quite irrelevant to the issue at hand.

FYI , many people really don't care what the US decides to do, weather it's regarding Gays or any other group. Please understand most people all over the world, not just in Nigeria have way more important things to contend with every day.

The REAL problem here is the US itself. They try to impose their values on everyone else. I'll be the first to admit that some values, like democracy, human rights, the rule of law, are indeed very worth values which should be encouraged and promoted.

However when it comes to social issues that's a very different topic. Societies have their own beliefs and values and we can't all be the same. Take Russia for example. This is an advanced proud culture. Yet the US continues to criticize them on their anti gay stance. Why? Are they not allowed to pass laws that reflect their own peoples values and customs? The same goes for Africa, the US continues to lecture African nations and insist that they promote the gay lifestyle. Why?

If the US adopts a live and let live approach, and respects the fact that not all the practices it endorses will be welcomed in other countries, then trust me, there will be a lot less interest and comment from other countries on whatever the US decides to do.
I agree with you that the US most times go overboard in imposing its values on other countries regardless of having different social and political values. I do not believe the US should push other countries to legalize gayism. Having said that, criminization of gays is extreme. Public display of sexual acts should be prohibited - both by homosexuals and heterosexuals, but private acts by two legal consenting adults in the privacy of homes without disturbing any other person can never be a criminal offense.
PoliticsRe: U.S., Homosexuality, And The Hypocrisy Of Nigerians! by wirinet(m):
Kudos to the OP, you are on you the right path to enlightenment.

Gayism is an issue that had been with mankind from the beginning, Gayism is with us today, and on the last day on earth there would still be gays.

We have HUGE problems in Black Africa, there is problem of illiteracy, problems of corruption, problem of disease, lack of adequate social structure, lack of unity. In fact we have became the basket case of the world. We rely on others to feed us, cloth us, provide medicine for us and even provide us aid. But what we expend our energies on is what two men or two women do in the privacy of their bedrooms. If we expend the same energy and hatred toward people that steal our resources and exploit us, i am sure we would progress more than we have done so far.

You do not have to hate gays or love them, just leave them to their own devices. As long as they do not impinge on your rights and conveniences, then they should not waste an ounce of your thought energy. You should devote your thought energies into something that can improve yourself, your society, your race and mankind in general.

Nigerian government need to correct all inequalities leading to this talk of sessation flying in Nigeria now. If they fail to do so, Then Nigeria go enter wahala tomorrow, sooner or later.
The Nigerian government cannot correct all inequalities in the Nigerian Federation now. It will take time that is if it is even possible for the Government to do it. The Nigerian problem is structural, cultural and social. There is injustice in every facet of the society to all sections. There is injustice between social classes with one set of laws for the rich and another for the poor. There is injustice within all political units, with lagos with a population of 20millions having about 20 local governments while states in the north with less than 5 million have over 30. There is injustice in the sharing formula of our oil rents.

It is we the people that can correct these inequalities, you and me. The ordinary Hausa, igbo, Yoruba, Ijaw, masses, who benefit nothing from the Nigerian state. The politicians are only interested in having more share of the National cake, hence their interests are more states, local governments and federal character in appointments. The 36 state structure is too inefficient, wasteful and unsustainable. Imagine Awo running the whole western region on one government structure with very few commissioners, now the same political unit has been devided into 6 units with each unit have political, legislative and judicial structures, and you wonder why they can't pay salaries. where will they get the money for developmental initiatives like education, power and infrastructure. It is beyond madness that people are clamouring for more states.
PoliticsRe: Nigerians Should Ignore ‘hate Messages’ From Radio Biafra, Says NBC by wirinet(m): 1:03pm On Jun 27, 2015
I am highly disappointed at this response from NBC. The government is treating this "Biafran" problem with kid gloves, the way it treated the Boko Haram problem with Kid Gloves. They should immediately stop Kanu and his hate radio station and charge him and all involved for sedition. That is what the UK does to hate campaigners.

The danger is not to Nigerians in general and not even to the general Igbo population. The danger is to impressionable Igbo youth, who are being indoctrinated with extremist idealogies. They are made to believe that Yorubas and Hausas are the cause of all their problems and so are the enemy. This is the same way Hitler indoctrinated young Germans that they are a super race and all their problems were caused by the Jews. If ISIS could inductrinate affluent youths from UK, US, Australia and canada with their hate campaign, how about poor and uneducated Igbo youths. I am yet to see veterans in the civil war (on Biafra side) screaming for war with Hausas and Yorubas the way Kanu and his juvenile followers are shouting.

Nigeria Government need to get tough on any group threatening violence and hatred, whether they are Militants, Jihadists or Successionists. They are more legal and moral way of attaining independence without resorting to hate campaigns and treats of violence.
PoliticsRe: Gay People Need Prayers, Not Condemnation by wirinet(m): 12:28pm On Jun 27, 2015
AgentOfAllah:
If you wish to be logical, you have to embrace consistency, irrespective of your moral leanings. Comparing in.cest to in-breeding isn't any more rational than those who compare homosexuality to inability to reproduce.
Inbreeding can happen without recourse to in.cest, and in.cest can happen without resulting in conception (imagine gay incest, for example). And yes, if someone's sexual preferences is with their siblings, or other relatives, as long as they have attained the age of consent, there is nothing that should stop them from expressing their love to each other.
----------
Note: I have had to modify my comment because this overzealous Nairaland bowdleriser also confuses inbreeding and in.cest
At times some people argue just for the case of argument. Turning logic on its head. What is in.cest and what is in-breeding. (even Nairaland Bot changes in.cest to in-breeding automatically)Please explain how inbreeding can occur without recourse to in-cest? Please look up the dictionary meaning of in-cest. It is simply sexual relation between close relatives. So what do you call offsprings resulting from sexual intercourse between two close relatives?

You are just throwing the gay in-cest angle as a red herring. Homosexual incestual relationships are extremely rare and inconsiquential. what is usually considered as danger to society are mainly sexual relationships between father and daughter, between mother and son or between siblings. The closer the relationship, the more the danger of genetic disease being introduced into a population.

Meanwhile closeness of family relationships that can be regarded as incestious varies from society to society. In some societies relations between first cousins are not considered incentious (for example the Jews and the Arabs), while in some Nigerian societies relationships between couples of the same clan or kindred is forbidden.
PoliticsRe: Gay People Need Prayers, Not Condemnation by wirinet(m):
Timbuktou:
Would you be saying the same about iincest?
Incest is totally different from Gayism. Incest is actually harmful to the society at large as it degrades the gene pool of any animal that engages in it. Ofsprings of incestious relationships are highly prone to genetic diseases and disorders. Even lower animals and plants go to great lengths to avoid in-breeding.

Homosexually actually does not affect the society, only the two people involved. In fact it may an evolutionary attempt at regulating population explosion of a specie. What two people decides to do in the comfort of their bedroom should not cause a third party any head ache.

Nigeria and the blackman always feels like the moral super hero of the universe.

Y ou cannot continue to enjoy the benefits of a stolen object after it had been retrieved and returned to the rightful owner, in fact the thief and accomplices should be tried and prosecuted.

The law does not recognize both Ngige and Omehia as a former governor. Now if APC and their sympathizers decides to call Ngige former governor, that is their perogative. Same also for Omehia, Andy Uba, Segun Oni, etc, but is is wrong to put their pictures among former governors and burden the state further with the extravagant allowances and privileges like a former governor.

Do River's state indigenes have an idea on how much this illegal act woule cost them? How many months or years is Wike backdating the payments? If he should backdate it to eight years ago when Omehia vacated the seat, the rivers people will be paying Omehia hundreds of millions of Naira and would pay him hundreds of millions more until his death for just about two months of illegally sitting in an office.

Nigeria has not fully recovered from the first civil war. The anemic picture of today's Nigeria is due to the civil war. The intended second civil war will validated the first civil war.
Can you please expantiate on the above. Nigeria recovered fully from the civil war within 10 years. By 1977, Nigeria's had so much money that she decided to host the whole of Africa in a Jamboree. Even Gowon Boasted that money was not the problem, how to spend it is. The problem we have today is a cummulative effect of greed, avarice and vanities of our leaders (Biafrans included) and the seeming helplessnes of the people.

A second civil war will only be bloodier and more viscious than the first one because the hatred on all sides is much more intense than the last time, no thanks to the struggled for power at the centre. But i truly cannot see how the result would be different.

EUROBOMBER:
I want to start by saying that I am not in support of Biafra or any attempts to break Nigeria but decided to do this write up because of some comments I read on nairaland lately. I am not in support of war and bloodshed; I am a man of peace and justice.

Nigeria will not survive a second war. Any other full blown war would lead to the complete disintegration of Nigeria and here are my reasons:

The Igbos lost the Biafran war because we had to take on the rest of Nigeria largely alone, the North and SW fought against us supported by parts of the SS. The Nigerian military was heavily armed by the Soviet Union and Great Britain and had a limitless supply of weapons. We had no access to the sea and our people were starved to death which swelled our casualty figures.

Unlike in 1967, the SS will not give Nigeria the kind of support it did during the Biafran war. A lot of SS people are not happy with Nigeria and many are already calling for a referendum, some are even calling for outright war with Nigeria so that they can break away. The SS have realised their errors in frustrating the Biafran agenda and would do all they can to help ensure the collapse of Nigeria should another war break out. They might not join the Igbos, but they would give all their support to end this union first so that they might be on their own instead continuing to bear the dead weight of the Fulani from the North.

The people of the MB will not join the core north this time to fight against the Igbos. These people are being systematically wiped out by the invading fulanis who are planning to annex their lands for cattle grazing. I have personally interacted with a lot of MB people and they are full of regrets about their role in the civil war. In the event of another war, the MB will rise up against their killers from the far north. If the Fulanis continue to kill the MB people at the current rate, then it is a matter of when not how they would eventually wipe out the MB people and take their lands.

The Yoruba would not want to be involved in any fight against the Igbos again especially if the Eastern army makes no advance towards the west like what happened during the last civil war in the march to librate Lagos from northern occupier army which had occupied the west. I am not a Yoruba man but I doubt very much that the Yoruba would willingly just jump into battle to assist the core north. The Yoruba would do all they can to try and stay out of any fighting and would prefer to be on the fence. They might however be forced into the war from either flank.
The Nigerian military is currently tied down in a frustrating battle against boko haram in the NE. Boko haram has international dimensions to it and might not end any time soon. There are foreign powers that want Nigeria to split and these powers would ensure that with a full scale war, Nigeria breaks into different parts. The Nigerian military will not be able to fight on two or three major fronts because even the military itself will crumble considering the fact that our soldiers are drawn from the various tribes. The Fulani soldiers would be isolated; the Igbo and SS soldiers would withdraw to defend the East, Yoruba soldiers would withdraw to defend the West and the MB soldiers would use the opportunity to vent against their killers.

At the end of the day, there might not be much fighting before the centre crumbles and Nigeria breaks to parts. The Igbos lost in the 1967-1970 civil war but a repeat war would yield a completely different result and that result would be the end of Nigeria.

This is a message for all those writing rubbish on nairaland, running their mouths and boasting that we would be defeated in another war. I thought I should open this thread to set the records straight for those that cannot see the writings on the wall and not to create an avenue for tribal fighting.
I think Nigeria would survive a second war, just like it survived the first one. In fact I think Nigeria would eventually come out stronger after a second war just like Europe became stronger after the second world war. This is because there would be only one common enemy just like the first time.

Yes there are issues between the two other major tribes and minority tribes but the Hausa/Fulanis are masters of political compromise and diplomacy. I am sure they would negotiate and compromise (and even bribe) the oil producing minorities for support against the successionists. What will the successionists offer the oil producing minorities?

Even the international dynamics would still be the same as the first time. UK, france, EU, and most AU members would still support Nigeria, not to talk of the Arab League. China and Russia would use the situation as a bargaining chip against the US as they did in Iraq, Libya and Sudan. A food blockage would still cause massive starvation as the south east do not produce enough food to feed its population.

And someone would be questioning why reccurent expenditure is over 70% of total budgets.

The Navy should not be in charge of the water ways (lagoons and creeks), there should be a special branch (actually there is) of police responsible for policing our water ways. The navy should be patrolling our coastal waters against external infiltratration. I am telling you that in modern democracies, the police should be responsible for enforcing law and order.

The military is not trained to arrest and disarm robbers, they are trained to use maximum force to eliminate treats to the country or use the same maximum threat to attack the enemy. The command structure of the army, air force or navy is not suitable for crime fighting.

Nigeria is the only country that denigrates its military. You want to hold elections, you bring in the soldiers. You want to guard pipelines, you deploy the airforce and navy. Meanwhile Boko Haram and others (probably Cameroon) and foriegn aircrafts are violating our airspace at will. You are now asking the army to be pursuing robbers. You should be advocating for proper structuring, training and equiping of the police force allow them carry out their constitutional responsibility.

I wonder what our airforce are doing, can't the police make a call to the airforce to support them, what about the Navy... Security will be guaranteed when airforce +navy+soldiers work with the police until the police is capable and vast
Airforce, Navy and Soldiers are not trained to fight crime, their constitutional duties is to protect the territorial integrity of Nigeria. Which country have you seen deploying Airforce (maybe with F16 ir MiGs) chasing armed robber or Navy using Battleships to battle robbers. Deploying soldiers to be chasing robbers is demeaning to the military.

The problem we have is a structurally ineffective police force, the police is more pre occupied with guarding politicians and the rich elite. Those that do not have the opportunity to work for big men go after soft targets like motorists, commercial bus drivers, innocent citizens, etc. The police would never go after armed robbers and area boys.

The police should have a special armed unit (a kind of special forces), that can be deployed anywhere within zone within minutes to confront dangerous armed robbers. The unit should have modern assault weapons, helicopters, armored tanks and even gun boats to be able to confront robbers in the lagoon.

Ordinary police in the UK do not carry Guns, but if there is a robbery attack, the special unit would be there within 15 mins.

Another crucial unit the Nigerian police lacks is a crime lab or forensic lab, that is why the police rely on confessions (extracted forcefully or otherwise) and witnesses (false or true)to try cases.
