Christianity EtcRe: Is Fornication Really A Sin? by wirinet(m): 8:11am On Mar 29, 2013
no where in the bible was sex between two consenting non related single adults condemned. what it condemned is adultery (especially when it involves married women) and sex with relatives, same gender and animals. As the OP rightly pointed out, fornication has been been wrongly interpreted to mean sexual immortality, meanwhile the same bible has listed what it terms sexual immortality. sexual immorality can be defined to mean anything according to the person doing the defining. some people can define masturbati0n, Mouth Action, suck job, anal se.x and even non missionary position as sexual immortality.

sex is frequently overrated? Are you aware that man thinks about sex 90% of the time. outside food and water, and maybe shelter from the elements, the most important thing to man is se.x

Do you realize that official corruption devastated more than our Environment? it has devastated not only the lives of oil producing area but the whole nation. And besides, oil bunkering is just one of the symptoms of corruption, what of official oil stealing through allocation of oil blocks. This law is for the poor fellowstruggling for survival and risking his life breaking pipelines and scooping fuel, the main bunkerers who steal oil directly from the flow stations through massive oil vessels would not be touched.
PoliticsRe: # U.K. Teen Sells App To Yahoo, Becomes Millionaire, while Nigerians Argue Online by wirinet(m): 12:59pm On Mar 26, 2013
You should never blame our teens and youth for being non creative and idling away, you blame the adults - political, social and religious leaders, who lay down the warped value system in place today. A value system that that discourages creativity, hard work and excellence and replaces it with making money at all cost and quicky too. That is why our youth are only interested in activities that can bring cash instantly like Yahoo Yahoo and music. Sports takes too much effort and time.

Another problem is that Nigerians are so materialistic that they fail to see the human brain as the greatest resource in the universe, and so intellectual property is not protected. J.K Rawlings became one of the richest woman in britain not because she worked in government or she was allocated oil wells, but because she wrote children's books. A Nigerian based author cannot even feed himself not to talk of becoming rich.

If a young brilliant but unconnected teenager writes an application that is good, most likely it would be stolen by an influencial person or a foreigner and the teen ager would not see a kobo.
PoliticsRe: 5 Things That Will Go Wrong If Jonathan Is Not Re-elected In 2015 by wirinet(m): 9:11am On Mar 21, 2013
oxford: 1. BREAKDOWN OF LAW AND ORDER IN THE NORTH:
Current insecurity in the north will be a child’s play when a northerner becomes the president. This is easy to foresee as the JTF will be withdrawn totally from the north thereby creating a field day for the insurgents. As we all know this has been the desired of prominent northerners including the Sultan, Tambuwal, Borno elders and Elrufai.

2. RENEWED MILITANCY IN THE NIGER DELTA
For the first South- South president to be denied a second term will be interpreted to mean a continuation of the exploitation and injustice that the people of the region have been subjected to by the Nigeria state over the years. Of course the reaction of the youth of the region will be rightly or wrongly, to take up arms against the state. I foresee a scenario of zero oil revenue.

3. POLITICISING OF THE NIGERIAN ARM FORCES
Again we will witness a major retirement and redeployment of all those professionals spearheading the current fight against terrorism. Some of them will even face trails and jail. Outcome of all these will be hard to tell. Only time will tell whether Nigeria can survive the upheaval that will follow or not.

4. COLLAPSE OF THE ECONOMY.
To show that the new government is a “populist” and “a people’s” government new policies will be formulated like the restoration of 100% fuel subsidy, subsidizing of religions pilgrimages, increase in workers’ salaries, increase in allowance for the national assembly for “fighting Jonathan”. Needless to say that the Nigeria economy can’t sustain all these and the next resort will be foreign debt.

5. ABANDONEMENT OF PROJECTS
Most, if not all project current being executed by the FG will become abandoned projects – these will include the privatization of PHCN, new universities, Lagos-Ibadan road, Benin-Ore road, airports remodeling, and all South-South projects. This is to “to punish Jonathan and his boys”
The arguments here sound like it is coming from a fisherman or a palmwine tapper. It is irrational and only amounts to blackmail by Jonathan's tribesmen or people whose livelihood depends personally on Jonathan.

1. Why would a northerner president withdraw JTF? So that Boko Haram can bomb his home state, village, family and friends? Who had been more aggressive against Islamic militants in the past - northern or southern head of state? A northern president can act without fear of ethnic bais from the population unlike a southern president.

2. So denial of second term for Jonathan now equate to CONTINUATION of exploitation of the Niger delta? Honestly i do not know how you can link lack of presidency to exploitation. Are you saying villages and town that have produced presidency in the past do not show signs of exploitation? Please let me have your definition of exploitation.

This is just cheap blackmail. You people think you can blackmail Nigeria with militancy if we do not dash GEJ a second term. Let me bring you down to earth, NIGERIA DOES NOT OWE JONATHAN A SECOND TERM. If he presents himself for reelection, nigerians in general are free to accept or reject him.

Now about the threat of militancy, the military has the resources both human and material to level the whole of the ijaw militant are under 2 months, just like it can level boko haram controlled areas. The restraining factors are the civilian population and international restrains. That was why Yaradua offered amnesty, if the amnesty had been rejected or the militants reneged on the amnesty deal, i am sure most Ijaw areas would have gotten the Odi treatment without ta backlash from the international community.

3. About military postings, that is neither here nor there.

4. Economic collapse? Are you serious. Do you realise that nigeria had been "subsidizing" fuel for the past 40 years and the economy had not collapsed. Why is it now that the economy would collapse because of subsidy? Are you aware that most OPEC countries subsidize fuel? And their economy had not collapse. What collapse an economy is not subsidy but bad economic management and corruption. Government can give Nigeria cheap fuel if it has the political and management will to. We can build more refineries or contract foreign refineries to refine our 450,000 barrels per day local quota.
PoliticsRe: Soyinka Slams Jonathan On Alamieyeseigha’s Pardon, Says It’s Immoral by wirinet(m): 8:25am On Mar 21, 2013
The most annoying and embarrassing aspect is that the newly white washed Alams is still filthy dirty outside the shores of Nigeria. If he is appointed into a public office or elected into one, he cannot venture into the EU or maybe the US as he is still a fugitive in the UK.

I honestly do not understand why GEJ was so much in a hurry to pardon his former og. He would have told him to go and clear his name in the UK before prodding him.
PoliticsRe: Jonathan - Alamieyeseigha Is Crucial To Nigeria's Economy by wirinet(m): 11:22am On Mar 16, 2013
thelastPope: This is a fact and it isn't new. Go and check all the news and even threads on NL dating back as much as 3 to 4 years and you will see it clearly. Alameisegha was the biggest factor behind the Niger Delta amnesty.

Whether you agree that that is enough for him to get pardon is another debate entirely. But it is a known fact that Alameseigha was the man that got the militants to drop their arms and accept amnesty. He still remains a respected leader because of what he did for those guys over the years.

You will be fooolish to expect that those youths will throw him under the bus because of his corruption case when he has really helped them for years.
You people must think everybody here is a kid. We the adults know that the so called Niger delta militants (Ijaw youths) was created, funded and armed mainly by DSP Alamiesiegha and Peter Odilli. That is why Alams is still referred to as the genaralsimo of Ijaw land. The Niger delta militants were the military arm of PDP (state chapter), just as Boko Haram was a military arm of PDP. The problem was that these military wings of PDP developed their own agenda after elections.

So if you want us to give some credits to Alams for ending (or should i say suspension of militancy, because i am sure they would resume after the Ijaw lose the presidency), we should also assign blame to him for creating the militants in the first place.

Another thing is that the Ijaws are using militancy to blackmail Nigeria. They are threatening that GEJ must be returned as president (with or without the support of other regions) or else.... Nigeria must be grateful to all Ijaw leaders and youths because they are responsible for stopping militancy and therefore improving the economy of Nigeria. We are asked not only to be grateful to Alams, we must be grateful to President Jonathan, Edwin Clark, Timi Alaibe, boyloaf, Asari Dokubo, elder orubebe and lots of others.

mko abiola: It wasn't GEJ dat unlaterally grant dem state pardon ,it was agreed by d council of state which included former president ,y lamblasting GEJ.get it right.
If it wasn't GEJ that unilaterally granted them (Alams) state pardon, then who nominated them? What criteria was used for the nominations. How was the decision to grant state pardon arrived at? Was it by vote or was each name read out and the Ayes has it under a voice vote.

When you say members of the council of state, who were the members present? Was OBJ there to agree to pardon Alams? Was Buhari there? What of IBB and abdulsalami?

To me the pardoning of Alams was basically a unilateral decision by GEJ, under the cover of council of state.

So what of Tafa Balogun and Cecilia Ibru, are they not eligible for pardon also as their cases is very similar to that of Alams.

My understanding is its a project coloboration btw FG and LSG in which the FG gave out d contract to provide d cameras and since LSG already has a control center that also handles its 767 and 112 emergencies and with few other cctv already installed its logical to streamline both the FG CCTVs and LSG to one monitoring center.....I may be wrong! So Its only d guys incharge that can give d correct information and datas.
This thread should be renamed the battle of liars, or clash of the liars between the abuja 40 laptop crew and the eko o ni baje group.

The eko o ni baje group claiming up to 500 cameras? Where are the cameras? The number i estimate cannot be more than 100, installed mainly on BRT routes and lagos island and mainland. I have not sighted a single camera beyond mile 12 on ikorodu road and the whole of ikorodu. I doubt there are cameras in babagry or eye. Can the eko o ni baje crew please provide us with the exact number of surveillance cameras and their areas of deployment.

The abuja laptop group also need to tell us the exact number of camera that has been installed, their areas of deployment and where is the command/control centre.

The two groups also need to tell us the cost of these projects and the cost benefit analysis to the citizens. How will the surveillance cameras integrate with existing security network and actually help in reducing or at least apprehend armed robbery incidences, especially those that happen at night.

What problems were being solved when you are blatantly telling a man that he should talk to his wife and solve all the problems by marrying his brother's wife. I am only saying that the decision must be the widow's own and that she is free after mourning her husband to find love and that she mustn't cling to a brother-in-law and mustn't take on the "my life is finished" stance like some are making widowhood sound like.
Your question "what happens to the nieces and nephew" (children of the dead husband) is equally a short sighted/myopic one, it sounds as if a 39 year old woman with kids that is dating and trying to find love and be happy is doing wrong in your mind's eye and that children of a widow that is dating again after the death of her husband are liable to get lost to their papa's family or not be well taken care of. Your view of a widow is ridiculous, friend.

By the way there's no need to be throwing acidic statements to others because they don't agree with your "I-have-the-wisest-answer-for-the-poster-and-nobody-should say-anything-again" view. Jeez! Take things easy bro.
you must be living in the west, you seem oblivious of the difficulties widows go through in African societies. In some cases (and i mean lots of cases), the late husbands properties are confiscated by greedy relatives and she and her children left in punnery to suffer. Got to an average magistrate court and you will see many widows trying to recover their late husbands properties.

Even though a widow is young and childless, it might still be difficult for her to get a husband. Superstitious African societies attach a certain stigma to widows. Some men and their families are weary of marrying widows because of superstition. They believe the widow must have been responsible for the husbands death, even if the husband died in the Dana plane air crash. I have a rich uncle who refused to marry a very beautiful and successful banker because he learnt she had been widowed twice. So he strongly believed he would be victim number 3.

Believe me, for a poor widow with 5 children in Nigeria without the support of her family or her husband's family, her life is almost "finished".

I understand you are looking from the perspective of the man's wife. Yes, it is not fair that she would now have to share her husband's attention with another woman and 5 children.and that is the only negative. But from the point of the society, the family and the widow and her children, it has positive implication. Imagine the effect of 5 destitute children and their mother on the family and society.

I am not saying the man must marry his brother's widow. I am only saying that it is an option if he feels he is financially and emotionally capable.

At times it seems some people have comprehension deficit disorder. I do not understand how some people are able to twist this peculiar case to spousal inheritance being practiced in some African societies. Someone is bringing up the argument of spousal inheritance being banned in Uganda, so how does that have a bearing on this case? Is the lady in question being forced to marry th OP? Was she barred from getting on with her life and marrying whomsoever she wishes? The late husbands family did not even contest inheritance of their brothers properties and even helped in completing his house. Even in Uganda, if a widow willingly wants to marry the late husband's brother and the brother agrees, there is nothing the government can do.

In this case, the lady does not want to leave the husband's family and if the brother likes his brother's widow, his culture allows them to marry. This is the subject of discussion and not a debate of whether spousal inheritance is a good practice or not.

Its a common practice amongst certain 'north-western' african tribes.

You oughta sue both the lady and her parents.
I agree with Steve, she must have problems she is so ashamed to reveal. That was why she had been avoiding you seeing her unclothedness all these while.

So i advice you to calm down, take a deep breath. Go back to her family and try and get her back, then you can lovingly pry as to what her problem is. You have to be patient, caring and gentle. I am sure she would eventually open up and then you can attempt to remedy the problem.

After all you signed a "for better for worse" agreement.

RomanceRe: Can I Marry My Senior Brother's Wife? by wirinet(m): 7:08am On Mar 08, 2013
This is a touching story, but it highlights the contradictions within our society. That is why i do not support wholesale adoption of foreign religions and culture. Societies that mandate or allow young widows to re-marry the late husband's brothers were attempting to solve practical problems in a very pragmatic way. I am an advocate of women protection and women's right and it is sad that women (and orphaned children) are not protected under the Christian religion.

Now one can understand the European society practicing strict monogamy(in theory), because the society has developed a social system that protects women and the poor in the society, so a poor young widow or even an abandoned poor lady would not suffer. But the African society was built on family and clan social structure, so women, children, orphans and poor members of the family were cared for by the whole family or clan. In my example my father died before i was born and my mother was too young and poor to take care of me, but i was taken care of by my fathers family to the extent that i had better education and status than other children. So in the traditional African society, it made sense for a young widow to remain within the family for the social protection of the widow and the children.

But now that we have decided to throw away age long culture and adopt foreign culture, how do we solve the problem of widowed? Asking the woman to re-marry is impractical as which man would want to take care of another woman's 5 children, then would the late husband's family allow the woman to bring another man into the house they and their brother build? Asking the woman to remain single and celibate is very selfish of us, as a young woman still need the emotional support of a man and sex.ual requirements too. She would still need help to educate and raise 5 children.

To me the situation is a very complex one, but the best way to resolve the issue is for the whole family has to be involved in any decision taken.

This is the reason el rufai says nigerian youth cannot read and IBB says the youth are incapable of leadership position. I am certain most of the teens and immediate post teens that populate this forum do not read beyond the headlines and less than 10 lines and then hit the reply bottom. That is why most times, they are incapable of contributing meaningfully to any thread, outside insults, emotional outbursts and programmed stereotype responses with no correlation to the subject of discussion.

In this era of the information super-highway, some is talking about keeping your dirty linen in the closet, Your linens, both dirty and clean are available for all and sundry to see. The major problem with us nigerians is that we love "ear candy", we love to hear sweet things. So we love lies and abhor the truth, and it runs in all aspect of our lives, from political, social, religious, financial and even medical aspect of our lives, we love to tell and hear lies.

As I told you earlier, Georgia State laws permit this kind of contract so in as much as your argument on her rights make global sense, in this case it has no basis.
If truly Georgia state laws permit such contracts, then the lady in question would have a difficult case. But she can still challenge the law at the supreme court. The problem is she would not have the time and resources to go all the way to the supreme court just to get her meagre teacher's salary paying job back.

A lot of people in this thread makes me laugh. I hope they get good lawyers when signing agreements instead of charge and bail lawyers, A lot of agreements are not worth the paper they are written on in court. There is something called hierarchy of laws, the lowest on the ladder being contract agreements and local laws while the highest is the constitution. A law or an agreement can be annulled, rendered null and void if it conflicts with a higher law. It does not matter that the agreement is signed by both parties or the law is duly passed by the local, state or national assembly.

Let me give you people the best example. Before Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was allow to be nominated as the presidential candidate of the PDP, he was made to sign an agreement that he will run just a single term and then hand over to a northerner, he happily agreed both verbally and literally. And so the rest is history as he won the election and was sworn in as president.

Now 2 years later, Mr Jonathan seems to have change his mind as he is gearing for a second term. So how will the governors enforce the signed, sealed and delivered agreement? They can't. If they dare show the agreement in court, the judge would throw their case out, probably with insults for wasting his time. Because the agreement is illegal in the first place. The constitution provides for two terms for the president, not 1, not 3, but 2 terms. The governors might as well as Jonathan to sign for a 3 term tenor. So now the governors have realized they are holding a worthless piece of paper in the name of agreement. The agreement has only moral value and not legal value.

So as i have tried to tell you guys not all agreements can be enforced legally, so shine your eyes before signing agreement.

Another difficult agreement to enforce is adoption agreements, but i would not go into that now.

Another good example is the shola ameobi's case. He signed a contract that he would not play for Nigeria. Now if he decided to bridge the contract and play for nigeria during the last nations cup and newcastle sacks him, he can take newcastle to fifa, and fifa would have definitely pronounced that section of the contract illegal, null and void, so the sack would have been illegal despite signing a contract.

I hope you understand that not all signed contract is legal.

MacDaddy01: WRONG. Just wrong.

Is there a separate employment law for NGO's and charities? No.

The point is simple. You enter an employment contract and it is binding. The rules of the christian schools do not violate ones human rights. It is foolish but not illegal. No pre-marital sex.

Even in certain sports camps for certain durations, the sportsmen are not allowed to have sex because it is a distraction. If they do, they are kicked off the team or suspended.

By the way, excommunicated is broad term that could include suspension or banishment. The excommunicated Rev. Fathers cant work in any catholic organisation.
yes, NGOs, charity organizations and religious bodies do not operate same employments laws as normal business entities. They operate on a membership basis. So they can loose membership status by going against the status of their membership. For example an osun worshipers can loose membership status by refusing to bath in the osun river, likewise, you can loose nairaland membership status simply by insulting Seun. Having an employment contract is a different thing altogether. You and your employer have to abide by legally acceptable laws - both internationally and local.

Same with sports, it is run on a volunteer basis. But in instances where there is a legal employment contract, you cannot be sacked for bridging house rules, you can only be suspended from playing games. Ask ballotelli or tevez

MacDaddy01: Agreed. Wirinet is quite wrong here. Even catholic priests take an oath of celibacy- you have sex and you could be excommunicated.
i do not think you can compare the catholic organization or any other religious organization or even confraternity with corporate body. The catholic church and religious bodies operate under charity, NGO and non profit organization laws, that is why they get away with anything. They do not pay tax even for commercial undertakings.

Priests are more like members of the organization than employees. That is why they use the word excommunicate rather than sack or termination of employment. Excommunication simply means any other member is not allowed to communicate with you, and any member can be excommunicated. Even at that you cannot compare laws made when Europe was under the tyranny of the church to modern day realities. Most of those laws have lost their relevancy as priest(catholic, protestants and even word of life Christians) openly break celibacy and funication rules, without any fear of excommunication.

However, I won't linger to bandy words with you as you are hell-bent on displaying your ignorance.

An agreement is binding on the parties involved. Teri James cannot sue for an order of specific performance or otherwise. She was bound by agreement [moral or ethical]. This cannot be overemphasized. Mr Anony et al have already discussed the issue extensively. What more can we say to knock some sense in? Huh?

Again, no offence intended. Balm wounded pride and embrace 'glaring' logic. cheesy
once again no Offense taken (sorry Nigeria officially recognise queens English as lingua franca).

I must congress that i am not a lawyer, but i know that not every agreement is binding. An illegal agreement cannot be binding even if it was signed by both parties. What i am contesting is the legality of a law that discriminates and affects only women. Even in state governments make laws that are rendered a nullity. For example if you make someone sign an agreement that he will give 10% kickback if awarded a contract and the person reneged on the agreement, the contract awardee cannot withhold final payment based on the illegal agreement. The problem is most people do not contest laws in the courts dues to expensive and rigorous litigation process. That is why this case would be a very interesting case, because i expect the lawyer to contest the legality of the agreement in a country practising a secular constitution.

What is ridiculous about the argument? What i find ridiculous is an employer dictating when, how and with who an employee should have a child with. It is more ridiculous for an employer to impose their personal moral views on the personal lives of employees.

I honestly do not understand why who a woman sleeps with or decides to have a baby with bothers others so much to the point of hysteria.

If a woman decides to have a child without a husband or buy a donated sper.m from a sper.m bank or even decides to adopt a baby, it is her prerogative. Please learn to worry about what concerns you ie, how to get a job, spouse, children etc, and how to contribute to make the lives of others better.

Mr_Anony2: On the contrary, I'll side with the school on this one. Every organization has it's values and once a an employee breaches them, the organization has the right to terminate her employment.

Her case is not much different from football clubs prohibiting their players from playing casual football in the park or the case of Ronaldinho's contract with Pepsi terminated because he was caught drinking Coca-cola.
Her pre-marital sex goes against the Christian image the school is trying to uphold just as Ronaldinho drinking Coca-Cola goes against the image Pepsi was trying to uphold.

The only scenario where I see the woman having a case is if such a situation was not covered in her contract.
yes, every organization is entitled to its values, but not when it is in conflict with your basic human right and dignity. For example, you cannot decree how one lives his/personal life outside the work place. Also yes, you cannot discriminate based on se.x religion or political affiliations and even moral definitions after being employed. Yes, these can be put into consideration before employment, not after. Even if it is in the contract of employment, it can later be contested in court as an illegal contract if it goes against basic fundamental human rights.

You cannot compare a football playing football in a park and risking injury to someone exercises her basic animal right on the right to bear children.

Same for Pepsi advert, who pay superstars huge sums to project their image. It would be unethical for the stars to be seen projecting the image of the company they are advertising

efosanice: I work in a public school and I'm still disappointed when an unmarried teacher conceives a child out of wedlock, even if they get married right away. To me, this is not the example we want for students even in a secular institution. This was not some "hidden code" or work policy, it was well-known and expected. Some Christian colleges expel students for this behavior or give them stiff discipline. How can they expect students to abide by the rules of the college if faculty and staff are not bound by those same rules?? Forgiving her and helping her, I agree, but giving her job back, I do not agree.
Shut up. What is your business with how another adult wants to live his/her life. Does your working in public school mean you must define the sexual or moral life of others?

Seriously you have physiological issues, you mean you get disappointed when a teacher decides to have a child without necessarily getting married? And so should be punished for a purely private decision? So please tell me how a teacher's pregnancy- married or unmarried affect the educational, moral, psychological or social development of a child. Does a child even understand the implication of marriage, pregnancy and pre-marital or post-marital sex? It is bigots like you that would indoctinate little children in adult issues that they are not expected to understand until they are young adults.

You are an hypocrite also, so what should happen to male teachers that decides to father children also. Oh, they dont get pregnant. But they did engage in pre-marital se.x. So the problem is not pre-marital sex itself but pre-marital pregnancy.

I think you need to get a se.xual life - pre-marital or otherwise, it would help you ease your years of bottled up tensions and emotions.

Billyonaire: The visit to Maiduguri, Yobe and 2 other states were already planned since last December, but the opposition had a wind of it and rushed there first so as to make the President's visit, which was under wraps seem reactionary. APC will do anything to confuse uninformed Nigerians but we should understand that today's APC are yesterday's men who only metamorphose for their selfish interests and not for the good of common Nigerians.
you mean the president and commander of the nigerian armed forces, general goodluck ebele Jonathan gave 3 months notice before he planned to visit a war/conflict zone. Wow that is a war strategy he must have learnt at war college (i hope he attended kuru). Even his other enemies got wind his movements and planned countermeasures. I wonder what countermeasures his other enemy (boko) would have employed.

Even the publicity stunt undertaken by the APC guys caught everybody by surprise, even Jonathan.

Sincere 9gerian: If truely the president is to visit Maiduguri next Thursday, it must have been planned long time ago, not today.

The APC governors may have preempted the president because the Borno governor will have privy information of the president's planned visit.

But the vice president was there recently. I cant even recall how many states the president has visited since after the elections, mayb very few. But I agree that of Borno is a special case and the president needed to have been there to show solidarity but who knows if his security people advised against a visit prior to this time.
i usually do not respond to professional government protagonists but what you wrote there is pure bullshite. You were neither here no there, first you were able to read the mind of borno state government to know that he had privy information that Jonathan is coming to borno and so APC politicians were able to preempt him. Then you you excused Jonathan because he has not visited many states since he was elected. You then reversed Your arguments completely by second guessing security agents advising Jonathan against visiting borno. So what exactly is York stand on the issue outside defending Jonathan.
