iammo:They are taking a cue from Saudi Arabia, who are poised to make billions till eternity through religious tourism. |
BALLOSKI:How many Emirs in the north attend Launching of roads and universities in the North. Even if they are invited by the state governor they will send representatives and not leave their domains and be sitting in the sun or under a canopy listening to governors performing their PR stunts. Imagine a retinue of Yoruba Obas sitting in front of a governor like school boys attending a school debate. |
topatee:The British or their fore runner the Portuguese did not conquer the monarchs with superior power in the beginning. They conquered the monarchs using their greed. The conquered them with mirrors, umbrellas and hats. Later they started giving the monarchs guns to help them bring in slaves from surrounding villages. It was after the British Wall well established that the British sent troops to completely subjugate the monarchs and their peoples. |
yemmit90:You are letting emotional sentiments rule your reasoning. Obas, Obis, Olus, Emirates are only powerful to some extent within their domains. Outside their domains they are almost like your average citizen. If Obasanjo went to visit or pay homage to an Oba in his domain, you don't expect the Oba to stand up for Obasanjo, in fact you expect Obasanjo to prostrate for the Oba. When an Oba leaves his domain to be attending government functions and social gatherings up and down, then they should be prepared to follow official government protocol. What are so many Yoruba Obas doing at the launching of a road or university? Do you expect the Obas to be higher in order of protocol to a former president? That's why I like Obas like Oba of Benin and Sultan of Sokoto, you will not find them in launching of bridges or social events, that I consider PR events for governors. |
yemmit90:You blame Obas for agreeing with constitutional provisions? Here is what Obasanjo said; Thank, you. Please, be seated. Firstly, I greet you all monarchs and royal fathers and thank you for coming,” he said. “But let me make something clear: whenever the governor or the president is present, even the royal father must stand up to honour the president (or the governor).”What did he say that is off? If the governor was there, won't they all stand up and greet him? Remember the only person with a higher order of protocol than a former president is the current president. Yes, Obasanjo was just being brash. Maybe he was annoyed that he was not recognised when he came up to speak. Maybe non of the obas came yo greet him. |
Kingspin:They lost their respect long ago, after they sold their own people for mirrors, umbrella and guns. They signed away their rights to the colonialists for immediate material gains in the name of a protectorate agreement. After the colonialists left, they transfered those rights and powers to their political disciples instead of handing them back to the Kings. As it is kings rule at the discretion of political leaders - Governors, local government chairmen, etc. |
flokii:In the Nigeria context, no king, Oba or Emir has more influence than Obasanjo. He is first a retired 4 star General, then he was a military head of State of state and finally he was a civilian president. Do you know what Obasanjo security detail contains? Apart from DSS and Mopol he has a full platoon of soldiers guarding him. The only person more powerful than Obasanjo is the current head of state. When Obasanjo seized Lagos BRT buses during Governor Fashola reign, it was Bola Tinubu that took Fashola to Otta to prostrate for Obasanjo before he released the buses. |
flokii:According to the Nigerian constitution, a president or even a governor Has more powers than a king. The power of Kings ends at the gate of his Palace or at best his domain. In Nigeria King's are just ceremonial and holds no direct power or responsibility. In a public space particularly outside the domain of the King, a former president is regarded higher in order of protocol. |
Risingsunn:You don't understand the political demographics of the US in relation to the Electoral College system. The states that lean democrats and republicans are almost set, they will always vote their party no matter the presidential candidate. States like California will overwhelming vote democrats even if they present Hunter Biden as their presidential candidate and Montana will always vote republican even if they present Marjorie Taylor Greene. The deciding factor in US presidential race are the swing states, about 7 in number - Georgia, Arizona, pennsylvania Mitchigan, etc. The person than wins the most swing states usually wins the presidency irrespective of the popular votes. I don't see trump winning, Georgia, Arizona and pennysylvania, giving the on going rift between trump and the states. Maybe you think Trump will succeed in nominating his own fake electors this time around. |
RosyIsBlessed:The police are more to blame, they are supposed to be the impartial arbiter. Some family might even be suspects, and do everything to compromise the death if it was murder. Why will the family agree to bury their son in such a demeaning way, less than 24 hrs after his death, without asking questions. In a sane world all those involved with the burial will be arrested and questioned. The Nigerian police are so ineffectual that they should not be called police. I am sure they were waiting to bill Mohbad before they treat his petition. If you report a case the Nigerian police, you expected to fund the whole investigation, from transportation to arrest the culprits to the forensic to the allowance of the investigating officer. You even have to pay for the complainant sheet and biro. |
Christistruth00:Nobody is questioning if Tinubu Graduated from Chicago State University, what people people are questioning are which Tinubu Graduated from CSU, which Tinubu was admitted into CSU, what document and qualifications did Tinubu use in gaining admission into CSU, what diploma did Tinubu receive at CSU - accountancy or business administration or both, what class distinction did he receive at CSU - 1st class 2nd class or third class, what was his GPA? |
Kilometres:What CSU is insinuating is that once a student graduates from its college, they can go and print their own certificate, because their certificates are ceremonial and they cannot authenticate its certificates. A CSU spokeswoman said the university can confirm the president graduated. However, it cannot authenticate the diploma because it is a ceremonial document that is not part of a student's official academic file. |
bluefilm:But there is an impeachment inquiry of Joe Biden based on Hunter Biden's crimes. For someone that doesn't occupy any political office, there is an awful lot of legislative time and resources being spent on him. From his drug addiction, to his escapades with prostitutes, to his personal relationships and then his business dealings, all of these are legislative agendas to the republicans. Marjorie Taylor Greene even bought a picture of Hunters nude or should I day dick yo the floor of the house. I believe the republicans wants to impeach Hunter Biden as the president's son. |
RosyIsBlessed:Exactly. Why did the police not insist on autopsy when Mohbad was confirmed dead. At ieast an investigation should have commenced with the petition of threat to his life. An investigative officer should have been assigned to investigate the petition. In saner climes, Mohbads death will be treated as suspicious death by the police and they would carry out a thorough investigation, but in Nigeria, the police are never interested in protection of citizens. They only protect the rich and political elites. |
Risingsunn:That's exactly what you guys said the last time despite all the polls showing otherwise. We await the 2024 elections. I hope you guys don't go crying rigged elections, 2000 mules, Dominion machines, etc., after being roundly defeated once again by sleepy/basement joe |
bluefilm:Yes he is a criminal. The most dangerous criminal in the US that it will take 90% of the time the house of representatives spends on its legislative duties. He commited the most grievous crime by buying a gun on false information and acting as a foreign agent/Lobby without registering. Hunter should in fact be executed for these crimes after first being impeached. |
AllenSpencer:What do you mean Republicans have nothing to hold unto? They have hunter to hold unto. Joe Biden must have called hunter just before he bought the gun, so Joe biden is guilty of high crimes by instructing his son to buy a gun illegally. Besides where did hunter Biden get the money to buy a gun? Its obvious the money to commit the crime came from Joe Biden, so Joe biden cannot absolve himself of the crime. This crime by Joe Biden must be part of the impeachment inquiry |
123yes:That's because they are yet to learn from Nigerian politicians. If it was Nigeria the argument will be that the form used in purchasing the gun was filled by the aid to the president's son, the aid just brought the forms to him to sign and the president's son sign unknowingly without even reading the form. The court will hereby dismiss the case and find the president's son innocent. That’s how the judiciary works in Nigeria. |
Mombebe:You are now making excuses for the OP and making insinuations that he did not imply. Here is the direct quote from the OP; "I give feeding allowance and personal totalof 100k a month while I invest the rest on a project which she is aware of." Except you are being disingenuous or you did not read this part, you will see where he wrote total for feeding allowance and personal expenses and he invests the rest in a project. I don't see where you are making those additional insinuations from. In Nigeria of today N700k would not afford you a luxurious lifestyle, except you don't know what luxurious means. You will spend over 100k on petrol alone that if your luxurious lifestyle includes at least 1 average car. If your car develops a major fault, you will spend more than 100k. I bought a car engine for 450k 2 months ago. Now let's talk about house rent. Can N700k provide you a luxurious house? A standard 3 bedroom flat with gated fence and borehole in ikorodu is nothing less than N90k per month. School fees in a standard school in ikorodu will set you back nothing less than 40k/month, that apart from books and other expenses. I have not even stated talking about Tertiary Education. My friend who walks in the oil industry and earns N1.2 million per month is crying because Babcock University raised their tuition fees from N1.5 million to N2.9 million, and you are calling N700k luxurious. |
tnerro1:False equivalence. Trump's impeachments were for actions he took while in office. Democrats did not go fishing for evidence. Officers of the government made formal complaints to the appropriate authorities about Trump withholding already approved money to Ukraine and the phone call where trump was asking Zelensky to probe Hunter Biden before he released the money. Senior officers of the government came out to testify against trump. In the second impeachment trump planned, organised and riled his MAGA crowd to storm the Capitol to distrupt the certification of Biden as the winner of the presidential elections. That is a classic definition ofba coup. Trump still have huge legal cases as a result of the fall out of that same action. |
Jman06:It seems you don't run a family and do not understand what it takes to run a family as a man. As a family with 3 children (2 teenage boys and a girl) with an aged mother, and an income similar to the OP, N100k is not enough in month for food alone. Except of course you want to degrade your family lifestyle and status to that of a factory worker. To me it is foolishness to degrade the living standard of your family in exchange for a long term project that might take more than 10 years to complete. By the time you finish your project your children would have become adults. You would have degraded their childhood by not giving them the best childhood you could afford. Now I am not saying projects house projects are not important, but it should not be at the expense of the comfort of your family, you must strike a balance. I value my family far more than the OP. I spend a small fortune on my children's education, not to talk of their comfort. During the last break I spend more than 100k for the boys to learn coding, apart from school, they have home lesson teacher and music teacher. Everyone has different priorities in life. To me my number one priority is my family. |
The republicans are just fishing for any crime to impeach Biden. This is similar to the Clinton impeachment inquiry, where they started out looking for corruption in some land deal that supposedly took place when Bill Clinton was governor of Akansas and ended up impeaching Clinton for having sex with an intern. After more than one year of investigations the republican led house is yet to present a single evidence of Bribery and treason they accuse Joe Biden of. The just kept yapping about Hunter Biden and the Biden crime family. Your would think they want to impeach Hunter Biden. I sure at the end of the day, they will look for one sexual allegations or another and then shout "Eureka". Mccarthy don't even have enough votes in the house to commence and impeachment inquiry, so where will he find the majority votes to impeach. He is just pandering to the MAGA caucus in the house, as they have him by the balls. |
Mombebe:You just don't get it. Its not about the woman but the family itself. The lifestyle of the family of a man earning 700k per month is different from that of the one earning 70k. You don’t expect a man earning 700k to live in a face me I face you, not even a self contain. You expect him to live at least in a 2 bedroom flat in a nice neighbourhood. Even an office that pays its workers 700k per month is expected to be located in an expensive neighbourhood. Same with the food the family eats, you don't expect such family to eat ogi and akara for breakfast, drink garri and grandnut for launch and go hungry at night. Same for the school the children attend. I am not even talking about the upkeep of the wife yet (things like cream, hair, make up and cloths). I am certain the husband spends more than 100k per month on himself alone. He will spend more than 100k on clothes, office launch, airtime and data, drinks and flexing in a month. 100k upkeep for man earning 700k per month is an insult to his wife and family. |
LordAdam16:Impeached for what and for which office? Impeach him as vice president retroactively for his conduct as vice president or impeach him as president for his previous conduct as vice president? |
Acidosis:I shock o. When a bag of rice is N50k, an average loaf of bread is N1.2k and gas is about N9k for a 12kg cylinder. And we are not even talking about soup ingredients and protein yet. What about other living expenses like house rent, power, drinking water, toiletries, TV subscription, phone subscriptions, Internet subscriptions, etc. You give your wife 100k out of a salary of N700k to run the house and you are complaining she is not always in the mood for sex. I used to give my wife N150k per month only for food and groceries for my household, I still pay for nepa bill, water and house maintenance and it is still not enough. I am not even talking about school fees, books and children's cloths yet. Guy, if you want your wife to alway be in the mood, treat her well and make life comfortable for her and your children. If you satisfy her basic needs and meet your manly obligations, and she still gives you a dead bedroom. Call a family meeting and present your grievances. If she is not ready to perform her wifey duties, you too is not prepared to continue to perform husband duties. |
ElSudani:Are you aware that this same argument of yours can be applied to Lagos (colonial lagos that is). Lagos than comprised of Ikoyi, Lagos Island, Victoria Island and Yaba. This areas were taken over by the colonial government, developed and made the capital of Nigeria. The Inhabitants (fishing settlements) they met there were denied and stripped of all their rights and claims to the lands. Its was after independence that the original owners of these lands started claiming their rights. So in effect you are claiming that because Abuja was made capital, the original settlers have been stripped off of all their land and civic rights. |
JuanDeDios:Still continuing on red herring arguments. If you have studied how run off elections are conducted, you will know that run offs are won by simple majority. Run off elections are held by the two leading candidates after a general election where the winning candidate out of multiple candidates was able to win 25% in 2/3 states. A runoff is won by simple majority. That decision WILL be upheld. Because it already stands, before now, that Abuja is to be TREATED AS A STATE IN MATTERS OF JUDICIAL INTERPRETATION. Every lawyer knows this – ask them. And that's only convenient and commonsensical. Not that the 25% argument even begins to make sense. Heck, Lagos State or even Delta State contributes far more to this country than Abuja. But Obi (who I rooted for in the election) and Atiku have money - let them waste it going to the Supreme Court. Please explain what is meant by "IN MATTERS OF JUDICIAL INTERPRETATION". Please stop going on the tangent by introducing more red herrings. We are not talking about what each state contribute to the country, we are discussing the status and rights of the people of FCT to choose their political leaders, and if they are granted any special status in Nigeria. As an aside, if you want to know how to win an election petition, I urge you to go study the case between Oshiomhole (AC) and Osunbor (PDP) (following the 2007 gubernatorial election in Edo State). Present your case the way Oshiomhole did, prove that you WON, and no court can deny you victory. Rely on technicalities (he forfeited money, he went to Chicago, he did not win 25% of Abuja, etc.) and run the risk of being laughed out of court. Many Governorship elections had been won at the courts purely on technical grounds, David Lyon was sacked by the Supreme Court basically because his deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, presented false information to the Independent National Electoral Commission. |
Minjim:So in effect the Gbagyi people of Abuja have lost their indigeneship rights. |
Wealthoptulent:So how do you explain the second republic when Lateef Jakande was governor of Lagos State and Alhaji Shehu Shagari was president in the same Lagos, or when Sir Michael Otedola was Governor and General Ibrahim Babangida was Military president in the same Lagos? |
Tareq1105:The US is the poorest example in this case. The state of California has more voting power than Alaska. California has 54 electoral votes while alaska Haa only 3. That means californians have overriding voting power than Alaskans |
JuanDeDios:You are introducing a red herring into the debate. Abuja indigenes are not demanding presidential candidates should focus on Abuja and ignore other states. What they are demanding is that the person holding the political office of their governor should have at least 25% of their votes, else there should be a run off. That way the governor (in the guise of the appointee of the president) will campaign for their votes and not ignore them in decision making. That decision of the PEPC if upheld by the supreme court will have serious long term implications for Abuja and thus Nigeria as a whole. |
Ezewuzie01:Then do FCT residents have half heads to not be qualified to elect their own governor, Senators, Legislators and mayor under a democracy? Nigeria and Nigerians can eat their cake and still have it. How can you expect them to be govern locally by politicians that don't even require 25% of their votes. They should demand the capital be relocated somewhere else and give them back their constitutional rights to elect their local political leaders. |
