The British government removing a king in England? That's a sacrilege. The British government cannot forcefully remove any monarch from the throne. If that happens, that would be a coup. The British government, the armed forces and the British subjects all pledge allegiance to the King/Queen. The worst they could do is all officers of government resigns from his/her majesty's government, and the UK would be without a government.

In the example you gave Edward VIII was given there options; give up the idea of marrying Miss Simpson (an American divorcee); marry against the church and his ministers' wishes (but face resignationof the whole cabinet); or abdicate. He choose to abdicate.

The Prime minister works for the king in the UK. The reverse was the case here, kings/warrant chiefs worked for the officers of the British government.

The constitution (as interpreted by President Tinubu's distractors) did not talk of disqualification, it says a rerun shall be held between the two leading candidates, and anyone with a simple majority in the rerun becomes the president. They interpret it as 25% the states of Nigeria on one hand and 25% of Abuja being a representation of the whole of Nigeria on the other hand. And also due to the fact that the president automatically becomes the governor of Abuja.

You still don't get it. We are talking about the misnomer in mixing the Governorship election and the presidential election in one vote for Abuja only. No other state has that problem. When Abuja residents and indigenes go out to vote in the presidential election, they are also voting for their governor. You would expect under a democracy that the person that hopes to govern a people would at least have a minimum number of votes from the same people.

Abuja residents and indigenes are not fighting for four heads, they are asking for their votes to count in determining who governs them, just like all other states (since in terms of votes they should be regarded as a state)

Law does not have sentiment. Law no dey do like this. Law is a law. Just as the law still gave the INEC opportunity to decide at anytime to transmit result electronically or not. This gave INEC upper hand to decide to change the format of transmitting result even few seconds to the election and INEC would win. Is that right? Two things the law needs to fix here: Make Abuja another state or retain it as it is.
Secondly, mandate INEC to transmit result electronically to reduce malpractice. As long as the law still gives INEC the power to decide how to transmit result even if it is to change it few minutes before or after election, it simply means that the new electoral law is wack.
In law there is something called loophole. The Abuja case is one. The electronic transmission of result and still give INEC right to decide or not to use it is also a loophole.

In effect you are advocating ignoring the electoral act passed by the national assembly before the conduct of each general election. INEC in his wisdom makes recommendations to be included in the electoral act. The national assembly debate and pass the act and the president signs it into law. You and the appeal court days INEC can decide to change the way it conducts elections few days to the elections and ignore the electoral act because it has the discretion on how it chooses to conduct elections.

About Abuja. Is it not a paradox that Abuja is a state in conducting elections only and not a state on how it is governed? The Governor of Abuja is the president, but is not required to obtain at least one vote from the residents and indigenes. How is that Democracy? Why should Abuja residents come out and vote at all in the presidential/Governship elections when their votes don't count at all?

It's not about under police, it's that the police do not know their constitutional responsibility. They see their responsibility as protecting the government and the elites, instead of protecting the citizenry.

It's not underpolicing that makes the Nigerian police collect bribes on the road and in police station. Fela had been calling police stations banks and DPO bank manager since the mid 70s.

The police is more underemployed than understaffed. Most police responsibilities have been given to other parastatals of government leaving the police with road blocks and errant boys for politicians and the rich. Drug crimes has been given to NDLEA, Financial crimes have been given to EFCC, traffic offences have been given to FRSC. So the only responsibility left for the police are violent crimes and maintaining law and order.

Not only UK. Even Ghana and Benin republic do not require to write a petition before police comes to your house to investigate a complaint. Nigeria's case is unique.

In the UK if a nosey neighbour reports you of living above your means, they would not ask the person reporting to write a letter, the police will be at the persons doorstep in less than 24 hours to investigate.

You need to leave Nigeria to see how things work in a proper country.

How many people do you know that are in jail for false 911 calls? So you mean the police will throw someone in jail based on a 911 call without carrying out any investigation? Or a court will jail someone solely based on a phone call without any evidence of a crime?

Investigation will proceed from there. If you don't show up - the case will not proceed. QED.

So before police can carry out their constitutional duty of protection of life and property, the citizens are required to first write a petition, then have a file opened, be invited to the police station in person, before an investigation can proceed? So a simple phone call or an emergency verbal report to police in a police station or even on the road is not enough for Nigerian police to carry out preliminary investigation?
It seems Nigerian police operate differently from other police of the world. In Japan a simple phone call will get a police officer in your door steps in 10 minutes.

Everyone protests issues that they feels strongly about. Ashawos protest that they should be allowed to do their business without harassment. If you feel strongly about those issues you listed, no one is stopping you from protesting. You cannot sit in your house and expect people to protest issues that is disturbing your mind.

With some comments above I realized I am not the only one who hate frsc even if your papers are intact they will still look for something so you can pay them.

I dont even stop for them anymore. One day after spending two days obtaining a Road Worthiness Certificate from VIO office, one FRSC jump in front of my car trying to force me to stop. No one told him to jump off the road to avoid getting knocked down. After lagos state governments has certified my car road worthy, FRSC officers would be asking for all sorts of papers and inspecting my car again. The most annoying one is Speed Limiter. FRSC officer's have extorted me numerous times for not installing a speed limiter on my vehicle, on the streets of Lagos. Instead of them to get a speed meter to catch over speeding vehicles, they arrest vehicle owners without a speed limiter.

This corporation has become more of a revenue generating agency than a safety compliance organisation. Their mission is to book motorists only without necessarily stopping the offences. I think their whims and caprices in generating revenue to their office have explicitly defeated their purpose of existence. They are now a nausea on our roads, a danger every driver fears. There is no justification for their continued existence presently as portrayed.

Concur 100% FRSC should be on our highways helping and monitoring interstate travel, but alas, they mount roadblocks in conjested roads with states. IBB created them to help reduce accidents on our interstate highways and help accident victims. They have now become a revenue generation agency.

The British or their fore runner the Portuguese did not conquer the monarchs with superior power in the beginning. They conquered the monarchs using their greed. The conquered them with mirrors, umbrellas and hats. Later they started giving the monarchs guns to help them bring in slaves from surrounding villages. It was after the British Wall well established that the British sent troops to completely subjugate the monarchs and their peoples.

You are letting emotional sentiments rule your reasoning. Obas, Obis, Olus, Emirates are only powerful to some extent within their domains. Outside their domains they are almost like your average citizen. If Obasanjo went to visit or pay homage to an Oba in his domain, you don't expect the Oba to stand up for Obasanjo, in fact you expect Obasanjo to prostrate for the Oba.
When an Oba leaves his domain to be attending government functions and social gatherings up and down, then they should be prepared to follow official government protocol. What are so many Yoruba Obas doing at the launching of a road or university? Do you expect the Obas to be higher in order of protocol to a former president? Apart from DSS and Mopol he has a full platoon of soldiers guarding him. The only person more powerful than Obasanjo is the current head of state. When Obasanjo seized Lagos BRT buses during Governor Fashola reign, it was Bola Tinubu that took Fashola to Otta to prostrate for Obasanjo before he released the buses.

According to the Nigerian constitution, a president or even a governor Has more powers than a king. The power of Kings ends at the gate of his Palace or at best his domain. In Nigeria King's are just ceremonial and holds no direct power or responsibility.

In a public space particularly outside the domain of the King, a former president is regarded higher in order of protocol.

You don't understand the political demographics of the US in relation to the Electoral College system. The states that lean democrats and republicans are almost set, they will always vote their party no matter the presidential candidate. States like California will overwhelming vote democrats even if they present Hunter Biden as their presidential candidate and Montana will always vote republican even if they present Marjorie Taylor Greene. The deciding factor in US presidential race are the swing states, about 7 in number - Georgia, Arizona, pennsylvania Mitchigan, etc. The person than wins the most swing states usually wins the presidency irrespective of the popular votes. I don't see trump winning, Georgia, Arizona and pennysylvania, giving the on going rift between trump and the states.

The police are more to blame, they are supposed to be the impartial arbiter. Some family might even be suspects, and do everything to compromise the death if it was murder. In a sane world all those involved with the burial will be arrested and questioned.

The Nigerian police are so ineffectual that they should not be called police. I am sure they were waiting to bill Mohbad before they treat his petition. Exactly. Why did the police not insist on autopsy when Mohbad was confirmed dead. At ieast an investigation should have commenced with the petition of threat to his life. An investigative officer should have been assigned to investigate the petition.

In saner climes, Mohbads death will be treated as suspicious death by the police and they would carry out a thorough investigation, but in Nigeria, the police are never interested in protection of citizens. They only protect the rich and political elites.
