This is the dangerous dimension Trump has introduced to US politics. It attack and insult all and any political opponent. It's such a negative strategy, and it appeals to negative people with negative aura. This strategy worked I the first presidential campaigns, I wonder if it will work again. I know Trump will go after DeSantis Family and past. He will spend millions to dig out the minutest details of his past and those of his parents. His supporters will be cheering gleefully. I think this is the reason the Republican Party is scared of Trump. They are afraid of trump digging up their pasts as no one, and I mean no one has a clean past. Even though Trump has the dirtiest past of all of them, the problem is that his supporters don't care, the more sordid Trump past is the more they defend and love him. Remember he boasted he could shoot someone in Broad day light, and he would not lose any supporter.

In this era of Internet and smartphones, republicans think banning books (like in medieval europe) would stop kids from accessing information.
It not that I oppose removing books that parents are uncomfortable with from school libraries, but making it a national or state policy is just stupid. These decisions should be taken at PTA levels. Parents cannot outsource the moral upbringing of their children to schools and teachers, they need to be actively involved.

That's not exactly correct. Indirect primaries does not mean party leaders nominate candidates for elective posts. What it means is that party leaders nominate delegates that will in turn vote on behalf of different constitutuences or interests in primary elections.

If it was Nigeria, the matter would get to the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court would then find Ekwerenmadu innocent and the boy guilty on technicalities. They would say the boys lawyers made a technical error by saying he was homeless when he has a home. So the boy would be ordered to donate his kidney and 5 years in jail as punishment.

Manual cars has its own niche and it's own future. They have been saying manual have no future since the year 2000, but today major brands still make manual models.

Manual is better for commercial and transportation business, or for heavy use. Manual gives better control, acceleration and it's more durable. It is also very cheap to replace or repair.

Religion has nothing to do with our lack of scientific development.

We are a country that relies on oil as a main source of revenue ....which cannot sustain all 200 million of us. We have chronically underfunded universites which are not allowed to raise fees, and that affects the quality of scientific development. And we have issues with power supply because people don't pay their bills on time, and this affects science growth.

It has nothing to do with religon. Many of the western countries had a lot of scientific growth when they were even more religous than we are.


The problem is, do you expect UNN to produce ground breaking research on a budget of 25 billion naira, when it needs ten times that...nay 100 times that?

Religon has nothing to do with our underdevelopment....the issue is simple. We got to stop relying on oil, improve our tax to gdp ratio and stop wrecking our power and petrol sector with subsides galore.....and maybe we will get somewhere...inspiteof the religous fanatics oppsoed to science.

The problem is more complex than just our reliance on oil. It has more to do with our reliance on foreign made finished goods, including food items. The problem started from the economic model bequeathed to us by the british. They made us produce primary produce for their industries, while we in turn became a ready marker for their finished goods. They made us grow cocoa, groundnuts, palm oil, rubber, that we don't eat, they in turn give us chocolate, Cornflakes, butter, milk, bread, etc, that we eat. That was the model at play even with crude oil. We give them crude, they in turn give us petrol, diesel, fertiliser, etc.

Why do we need to sell oil? - To earn dollars to buy petrol, diesel, fertiliser, milk, chicken, fish, etc.

In terms of education, the education they encouraged was to read and write English and to be good administrators to further their own colonial and post colonial interest. They never encouraged Science and technology education, which can lead to self reliance and development.

Religion was a major tool to keep us aspiring for science and technological advancement. We have more churches and mosques than schools, research institutes and libraries added together. You don't think that was deliberate?

As I said lack of research in our universities goes beyond funding, even if you give each university a billion dollars each for research, nothing will change. The money will simply be mismanaged and embezzled and our Engineering students will still be spending more waking hours praying than researching.

The reason why we cannot do research is because of lack of money. Foreign countries have a lot of money to fund advanced research because they pay the kind of taxes and have the kind of tax to gdp ratio to pay for good universites, plus they pay tons of fees...even going into debt to do so. (at least in Nigeria, no one graduates with millions in debt), and they also pay their electricity and power bills on time, and don't subsidise education.

Here in Nigeria, we pay fees of less than 200 dollars a year, and somehow expect to do research that a university that has fees of up to 20000 dollars a year does? Like how? 40% of us don't pay power bills that are already very low...and yet we expect power 24/7 with what money? You don't pay the type of tax they pay in developed countries...and you expect good facilites and so on? And finally...you rely on something that at best can give you one third of what we actually need in revenue...and you expect to live like the developed nations?

You are here blaming religion. Some will blame athiests, some will blame FESTAC 77 for bringing in demons into the country, and some will blame the West. Yet, we will go and cheer as someone wakes up and says that we should chase away power companies officials from dealing with power defaulters because they are exploiting us. Or we would go and protest when it is time to remove fuel subsides...or we would go and cry oppression, when fees need to be raised, or the tax to gdp ratio needs to be expanded

Stop blaming religion. There are scientists who are religious and do extensive research. Just as there have been atheists who misapply research. I vehemently disagree with you. Religion plays a huge role in our technological and scientific backwardness. First of all modern Islam and Christianity is against acquisition of knowledge. According to the doctrine of the religions, the Bible or the Koran is the only knowledge they would ever need. Remember "Boko is Haram ". Secondly, they make adherents waste most of their time, energy and resources in worshipping and religious activities, thereby allocating very little for acquisition of knowledge or research. Go to our universities, Students spend more time in religious activities than research. You will think all Nigerian universities have become convents, where prayers, fellowships, evangelisms, etc are carried out almost everyday.

Finally, religions make it impossible for people to work together or achieve a common goal, even in research and everything else. A Muslim would not collaborate with a Christian, much less an atheist. Even members of the same religions but different sects would refuse to collaborate on a research project.

I want you to see this 17 year old boy, Robert Samsone, who is about to revolutionise the electric motor. He does not have the millions for research just the passion for acquisition of knowledge and hardwork. He won the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair price worth $75,000 last year.

The objective of the Afghan invasion was not to occupy and rule Afghanistan as a US colony. It was to overthrown the Taliban, install a democratic Afghan government and finally instil US values on its populace. Just like it achieved successfully in Japan after WW2. It failed woefully just as it failed woefully in Iraq. The people whom the US spent hundreds of billion of dollars to train and equip to be able to defend themselves and run a government refused to fight when the Taliban came knocking. They just handed the weapons over without firing a bullet. Now who do you blame for that?

To occupy and subjugate a country as big and mountainous as afghanistan, the US would have needed nothing less than 300,000 soldiers at the cost of trillions of dollars.
This was the same mistake Putin made, when he tried invade Ukraine with only 120,000 soldiers, when military analysts said he would have needed at least 300,000 to stand a chance of success.
A invading a country goes beyond winning battles and territory, you need to have enough troops to hold those territories, else the enemy would re-occupy the territories immediately your soldiers leave to fight in other areas.

The war US and its coalition lost in Afghanistan was the ideological war and not the military war. The US tried to impose a Liberal democracy in Afganistan, and it fail. Islamic fundamentalist ideology won. The US equipped and trained the Afgan Military even more more than Ukraine, but the Afghan people were not ready to fight. The Ukraine people are prepared to fight even if given only spears and stones.

Once again the US did not lose the military war in Afganistan, they lost the ideological war.

It's not that easy. The US airforce and agencies responsible for monitoring US airspace first have to identify the craft, then the message has to pass through US bureaucracy until it gets to the commander in chief. The commander in chief then has to summon his defense chiefs to ask for advice before he can give orders to shoot it down.

Remember it's a balloon and not a missile or airplane. It cannot be communicated with. They would initially think its one of their own, an unusual weather phenomenon or even UFO. They practically have to send a fighter jet to get close enough to be able to visually identify the craft.

You don't shoot an object you suspect to be carrying out nefarious activities over your land. It might contain a physical, chemical or biological weapon. Besides it could crash on someone's head or property.

They will know what it's mission is after they retrieve it from the ocean after following safety protocols.

In my own personal assessment, I doubt its a spy balloon. A balloon is clumsy and not easily navigable to spy on specific targets. A spy satellite would have been much more effective. And China has a fairly advanced space technology.
