felifeli:Ijebu's are to busy controlling the economy to do that my dear (ask subomi balogun, mike agenuga, and numerous others) ...I honestly believe the fault lies in our leaders hands...soo many jobless youths out there...but I can guaranty you all that it'll get better now that phcn is privatize (except ofcourse u'r into the generator business) ...For all u kids shouting for war, ask uganda, somalia, iraq, etc... ...U all better face your business so you would become like that sharp igbo guy that own innoson motor manufactoring in Nnewi(Not some lazy importer in ladipo *shrug) or Mike Adenuga or Dangote... My two cents... |
ogtavia: Nice post..but pleas could u shed more light on Govt. streamlining..never heard d word before..tnks.Nigeria runs a very robust and expensive government. That is why concurrent expenditure swallows much of the budget. It also allow for various forms of leakage of funds. How To: (1) Salary cuts for elected politicians. (2) The job of a senator should be made to be part-time, and as such, their salaries and bonuses should be brought to the barest minimum. (3) All unnecessary Special-Advisers, Special Assistant, Senior special assistant, committees, etc should be eliminated. (4) Elimination of unnecessary departments and ministries e.g ministry of niger delta and NDDC, EFCC and ICPC, etc ...general reduction in the size and cost of the government sha...Ameachi doesnt need a $45million jet, a governor doesn't need a 30car convoy, etc. |
acidtalk: You are correct. What's the problem with the kids nowadays!!! Though some of these men get govt benefits now, they actually started their businesses humbly. Not like the get rich quick yahoo-yahoo mentality we have walking around now. Do you know how many people Oba Otudeko employs now...have u been to his factory along Ojota axis and other parts of Nigeria? These men are industrialist and should be repected for creating jobs for those multitude os so-called halfbaked graduates our uni's are churning out... ...If half the graduates could have minds similar to Oba Otudeko, Dangote, Adenuga, Innoson, etc Nigeria would be better... |
jobaskia: @acidtalkYou are right, Subomi Balogun owns FCMB bank. Oba Otudeko on the other hand owns, Honeywell group (fully), Airtel (largest individual shareholder), FirstBank (Fmr Chairperson), Pivot Engineering (One of the largest power contractor to PHCN, Oil Coys, FMCG, etc in Nigeria)...he has a good track record |
This is the best thing that has happened in Nigeria since OBJ privatize telcoms... D potential benefits of this is significant. Lots of jobs and stable power...though we might have high cost at the start just like MTN and Econet in those dayz... Happy GEJ finally did something different...its a shame though that Nigerian president do only one thing during their tenure... As it is now: OBJ: Telcom... Yardua: Amnesty GEJ: PHCN privatisation Next Guy: Govt Streamlining (This is what Nigeria needs next) |
dammytosh: That is totally not true. I am a programmer and all what you type is not a factor in being a good programmer. It has nothing to do with it.Try debugging a backdoor tro_jan...lol |
My bugati veyron doesn't turn heads, it breaks necks.... The only disadvantage is that I have to pay a lot of hospital bill for those sorry fellas I broke their necks... |
Jaga Jaga: I highly doubt this. There were vacancies for lecturing positions in some naija dailies middle of the year. Even if the government schools don't employ, he shouild try the private universities. But I can assure you that there is no embargo on employing lecturers anywhere in the country unless the bolded means last weeek.Bro, its not easy getting a university job at all, just like Ajanlekoko mentioned. I know the number of folks that are actually applying but all unsuccessful. I have mentioned somewhere on this forum that lecturing is a very lucrative job, even in Nigeria unlike most people make u believe. If he gets employed as a GA in a Uni..., his salary would "almost" double what some telcomm coys pays a call center operative...plus he gets other allowances, , he does't work late and everyday and he can easily get a sponsored international graduate study abroad if he is smart. |
jehovahnoni: These are both great opportunities, but when you are faced with the option of going to MIT or NDA(nigeria defence academy)..which one will be your alternative forgone ??,am in d option pool anyway..so am seeking advice.MIT as in Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston ....I think u meant IMT, Enugu though , if that's the case choose NDA.MIT vs et al. is a no brainer.... |
I graduated with 4.50 Perfect cgpa is easy...I made that even though I spent more time on my bed than I libraries... Anybody can do it... |
easy as abc.... |
Young man, did u say "beat Bill Gates in 5 years" what are you smoking son. If that would be possible, the you would have to do something about: Windows, Microsoft Office, Xbox, and the others which I have refused to mention. *N/B: not taking anything away from Dangote (Africa's best) though.... Billyonaire: It will be obviously rebranded if the majority stake holder feels so. 63% is majority, but its nothing considered to what Dangote can do with $181.98 million in the Cement Industry. Dangote is also investing in Power Sector, and $181.98 million input if actually added to his stakes in the power sector will catapult Dangote into the world's richest man. Do you know what it means to own a power plant and/or distribution license? Dangote will beat Bill Gates within 5 years, mark my word. |
People often fear what they rever (People believe in hope, but trust in fear-anonymous) That why everybody comes to talk about what a waste of time a first class is or what a waste a Phd is. Some that even droped out of school would even tell you what a waste o time it is to go to school at all, sighting Bill Gates, or steve Jobs as examples forgeting that this guyz didn't drop out because they failed (these are VERY smart guys who had almost perfect SAT scores). Sorry to rain on you parade, but getting a Phd is not a waste, 1) Firstly, you would contribute imensely to the field of knowledge for which other developements come from. Most people that play down the role of academics are just like the "Boko Haram" which is against western education, but would use a laptop, internet, AK47, explosive chemistry to get their work done. 2) Secondly, contrary to common belief, lecturers are very well paid world wide, even in Nigeria a fresh lecturer with Msc earn better than at least 70% of paid employees in NG. When u now get to talk about an even higher rank o a lecturer with Phd, he would almost be earning more than you. The thing is that unlike The banking or telcomm world lecturers don't have to meet up with any jones (N:B the lowest paid lecturer "G.A" earns more than a call assistant in MTN or teller in banks) So kids out there...bag ur Phd or even Dsc, flaunt it...."There once was a dream that was a Phd, its was only wispered, anything more and it'll vanish) *typos due to medium of typing |
The same reason, I go to the library to read... 1)In the library I hv people of like minds so there is some encouragement. The same reason I buy food in the market... 1)The market is particularly dedicated for that purpose, I'm more comfortable buying the quality and variety of things there God deserves our worship, the least we could do is to spare few hours in a place dedicated to him weekly... |
A late intellectual from osun state Nigeria once said "Religion is a disease of the mind" Do not be mistaken, I worship my God: but not to the extend of behaving irrationally (either muslim or christian) ...Arabs are particularly infected by the disease in religion... |
I congratulate you on your successful entry, lasu's medical school is one of the best equiped in sub-saharan Africa...latest equipments and very comfortable air-conditioned hostels...I don't know how much you would pay in second yead, but it should be a little less than the 1st year fees, as it would not include some fees such as acceptance fee, etc. Please make enquiries at the school, go to the admin office at ojo, or lasucom liason office in ojo. Best wishes toyingbad: @psamuel or anybody else, pls reply. I want to know when the resumption will likely be and if its d same school fees u'll pay throughout or it will reduce. Thanks |
Thanks a lot gentleman. I would like to know if a person that would be concluding his NYSC program towards the middle of next year can apply, this information would be very helpful, best wishes my dear. x-fire: |
The smaller the animal, the sweeter it is e.g idirecoco (common bird in nigeria) is sweeter than awo (bush fowl), awo is sweeter than your chicken, which is definitly sweeter than turkey or other bigger birds. Same goes for bush meat to goat to sheep to ram to cow to horse (tinco).... I.E the smaller, the sweeter...this trend was actually pointed out by a very old professor of mechanical engineering, who regularly kills birds on his roof and roast them with garri for lunch...Thanks |
Well young man...in my old age, I've seen an alpha's daughter marry a christian in agege area of lagos (I've also heard of others), a young friend of mine is about to marry the daughter of a strong muslim cleric in ijebu, though the father was a little hesitant ab initio. I believe parents generally allow their children to make most choices in the yoruba culture, all we parents do is to guide them, thus the yoruba saying "oluwa ni wo omo" I.e "Its actually God that brings up a child" And I believe this is true as I have seen the child of a yoruba imam in my area in Lagos turn out unexpected (smoking weed, and behaving irrational), also the son of an igbo pastor (a penticostal church exacly beside my house) turn out to be a weed junky...so its true that its God that actually brings up a child, parents only guide. Mekanze: True talk my broda, but we are in Lagos we know hw some of them acts wen it comes 2 religion. An alfa wil of Yoruba wil neva neva allow his daughter 2 marry a Yoruba Christian man, so where is d torelant? |
Ohhh...time have sure passed... I do remember when I was posted for my NYSC to a univeristy in SouthWest as an assistant lecturer in the mechanical engrn dept, I had to get myself a table and chair...as nobody could have any of that tiny kid from nowhere trying to steal some shine...*lol* |
