Politics / Re: Obasanjo Vs Tinubu: Who Is More Powerful And Influential? by wyzoe: 9:15pm On Oct 11, 2018
ehissi:
The clear answer is Obasanjo, you have to have a peculiar bias to think otherwise.

But we must also take into account the fact that Obasanjo has taken a serious breather from local politics, so there is a tendency to think that Tinubu is more influential, after all he is active Baba iyabo is not.

Baba hasn't really been trying to pull much weight, except when he briefly tried to raise a candidate on the ADC platform. A platform he just endorsed and withdrew from.

Tinubu's influence, starts at Seme border and stops at Ojodu berger. It is now he is trying to extend his influence by installing candidates all through the southwest. That worked everywhere but Ondo, where Akeredolu rebelled and Ondo masses supported him.

There are those who try to suggest that Tinubu put Buhari in Aso rock. You need to be a special type of retard to think that; yes Tinubu was amongst those that seriously encouraged Buhari to run for office again after several failures but even the electoral results show otherwise.

Infact, Tinubu discovered how worthless he was, in the first 9months of Buhari's tenure, he was excluded from all and every significant event/decision within the core of the party. It took rambling over elections within the southwest for Him to regain relevance, hence his desperate bid to ensure he acts as kingmaker to all governors in the southwest. That way, he may be seen as a major southwest power broker, unfortunately no yoruba man likes to be dominated by another for no too long, if he pushes too much, rebellion will start and he will end up going the way of awolowo, if he doesnt take care..............

Much has been made of the fact that Obj cannot even deliver his ward. How is this even an argument?

Obasanjo enjoys some measure of international respect, agreed. That however doesn't translate to the needed votes. Obj will only be useful AFTER you have won elections and need to enter into international treaties or negotiations.

Let's not confuse the matter

WyZoe I thank you for being the FIRST respondent to this thread, even though you only stopped by to serve up a right upper-cut, and a swift kick in the nuts, as punishment for my abuse of the English language.

Whilst you were here, I hope you did at least check out the music. It could be that my love for Congolese guitar music leads me to be overly descriptive in paying homage to the maestros who create this genre of music, especially since I dabble in guitar playing, and came to realize very quickly how complex the layering of melodies can get with this style, and how baffling it is to try and emulate the sound with my clumsy hands.
Nothing do you my brother. Carry on.

You're certainly not going mad and eating the plant is the healthiest way of consuming it. That being said, if you don't like your experience you should stop.

Read up online about the plant instead of allowing religious nuts talk about things they know nothing of. Their only knowledge is derived from hearsay.

Listen for the array of melodic intervals served up so smoothly, from 3rds to 4ths to 6ths and octaves, all woven together so seamlessly.

OP I read your other thread on country music so I appreciate that you know more about music than the average consumer but those words I quoted up there are truly cringe worthy.
If possible remove them.

I remember the jazz writer for the guardian, Benson Idonijie (I think) use such technical sounding (but empty) phrases and I remember always shivering.

Like one time he spoke about Wes Montgomery and tried to describe his technique as "chordal runs at the octave". I almost went mad.

It's, a popular saying in Nigeria that a Cat's Spit can cause permanent Blindness or acidic injury to the skin. How true is this?
Has there been anything to prove or disprove this statement.

I really need some clarification on this. A stray cat jus gave birth to newborns in my compound. I don't know how to approach the situation.

Hope I don't get blinding spit too.

Please don't kill them. Feed them if possible and I'll send you a cookie.

Career / Re: Sinmisola Ajibola: How Men Feel When They See Female Pilot In The Cockpit by wyzoe: 10:56pm On Jul 04, 2018
ChangeIsCostant:
Recently, Nigerian airline, Air Peace raised one of its pilots, Sinmisola Ajibola, to the rank of flight Captain. The promotion made her the airline’s first female captain as she's is from a family of pilots - father and four brothers, three of whom are with Air Peace.

The female pilot shared her story with Air Peace crew after the historic decoration.

CC: How do you feel becoming a captain?

CS: I’m very excited for this day, it’s a day every pilot looks forward to. I’m really excited and elated to experience this day.

CC: I can say you are from the home of pilots – your father, four brothers and now, you. What really is the interest here?

CS: (Hesitates) I remember growing up, I used to wear my dad’s hats and jackets, which used to be oversize for me, and say, “Oh I want to fly, oh I want to fly.” Then he just used to laugh and say: “Oh when you finish school (university) and you get your degree, then tell me again if this is still what you want.” Then, along the line, I would tag along on flights with him. Then my other brothers started the same thing: “We want to fly, we want to fly.” So, my dad made a joke that if he were into some other business, was that how we would all want to tag and follow him? But, all in all, I think basically, he contributed hugely to us being here today. We watched him, we admired him, he was a very good example for us. It was not hard, we did not have to think about it to want to follow his footsteps. It was not a hard decision. We are happy we did, we are glad.

CC: A lot of people are scared of flying, let alone talking of being in charge of the cockpit? So, what scares you about the job?

CS: Scares (pauses)… I think the more you fly, even if you have thousands of hours, there are times you will have fears in the cockpit, maybe weather or something, but that is where the training comes in. We go through rigorous training from time to time and all that, and that makes you more comfortable to handle any situation. And going forward, it is still mostly the same thing I have been doing, you know, only that it is more responsibility – I am looking after everybody at once. But I do not really think I have or I should have any particular fears about flying.

CC: Men especially are not comfortable having women in the cockpit. Is that justified?

CS: (Chuckles) It’s funny, because there are times we are boarding and the men will see me in the cockpit and they will behave like: “Is it a female flying us? Are we safe? Are we safe? And we laugh about it, because it is 2018 and we expect people to be conversant with having females in their cockpits. But I guess we will give them a little more time to understand that what the men can do, we equally can do.

CC: Let’s go controversial here now. Between men and women (pilots and captains), who do the job better?

CS: I would not want to go controversial to that extent. I think we (men and women pilots) equally do you job. There was a time years ago when they said women were more patient; they think better in handling things. But in this profession, I think the training and a lot of factors come into play. It is not all about gender most times.

CC: What should we expect now that you have been elevated?

CS: At the end of the day, it’s wisdom and hopefully, I get better really. I strive to be a better person. So it’s just to understand the profession and my career, and just work with what I have. I am glad to have supportive colleagues, a supportive chairman and our captains, training captains, so it does not seem like it will be a difficult road to walk. Inasmuch as there will be challenges, definitely we will overcome those challenges.

To be honest, I think this was a passive aggressive and totally unnecessary confrontation with someone who was probably just trying to start a friendly conversation. I'm also fairly up the income/social ladder here myself and i often get the "where are you from" question from most people. The lady was correct, it's impossible for anyone born and raised in the US to have the sort of accent like yours so it was a fair question. There was no need for your response. It's ok to simply state that you were born African but a naturalized US citizen. We joke about it in my office here, people try really hard to say my name and i tease them by scoring them on points based on who can say the name the best. We all have a good laugh and that's it. I work with 99.9% whites and have never felt any disrespect on account of my name or accent (which people think ranges from English to Jamaican).

If you search desperately for bias or bigotry, you will find it.

Accent? Ever heard of Cardi B?
