sukkot: lol cest finir. was dude serious ? skit ? G'morning again Sukkot. Yeah, the dude being interviewed in the skit was serious... He gave his contradictorily hilarious opinion about rape being a punishable offense, but then he went on to say in his funny mother tongue accent that in marriage, there is NO rape which of course is false. The fact that a man is married to a woman doesn't mean he can brutally have his way with her sexually without both of them being in sync. This is based on the rule of law. Last but not least, I forgot to ask you about the "map" that you referenced on page 1 of this your 2017 thread. I couldn't find an attachment of it. Can you get me the map you were talking about from Google Images? Despite the Ibos NOT being on the map like you stated, the group of people now called Ibos where already known to the Europeans in the history books I have read as "Eboes" during the slave trade in the late 1700s and 1800s because they were captured in large numbers by especially the Aros (and their allies like the Ohafia and Mbams in the current Abia State) and sold to the Ijaws, Efiks, Ibibios, etc, who were the middlemen through Bonny Island, Calabar and other slave ports in the Bight of Bonny Region. American, Spanish and British slave ships regularly visited Bonny Island, Calabar, Kalabari Kingdom because the demand for human labor on the plantations was high in the Americas. A certain white American slave ship Captain wrote in his log book in the 1790s that 3 out of 4 enslaved people that where taken on slave ships out of Bonny Island, were from the Eboes. |

That's how I found this thread. I hope you are adjusting to the subsidy removal? The use of auto gas, gas-powered generators, solar/wind hybrid power generators is key to reducing overhead costs. |

Padipadi: By Wole Soyinka
Your Royal Highness, So soon after the Moslem season of spiritual purification, it is sad to see the ancient city of Ilorin, a confluence of faiths and ethnic varieties, reduced to this level of bigotry and intolerance, manifested in the role of a presiding monarch. The truncation of a people’s traditional festival is a crime against the cultural heritage of all humanity. Year after year, the Ramadan has been celebrated in this nation as an inclusive gathering of humanity, irrespective of divergences of belief. Not once, in my entire span of existence, have I encountered pronouncements by followers of any faith that the slaughtering of rams on the streets and market places is an offence to their concept of godhead. Vegetarians hold their peace. Buddhists walk a different path. Prior to Ramadan, non-Moslems routinely join in observing the preceding season of fasting as a spiritual exercise worthy of emulation.
Perhaps this is another occasion for self-introduction. I currently teach courses in Abu Dhabi in the Emirates. That is the region of Origin, all others are mere appendages. I was there just before Christmas. I passed through again in the countdown to Ramadan. On both occasions, the streets, businesses, hotel lobbies and other public spaces were lit up with the same festive spirit. Only the symbols within the designs were different. The mood of celebration was equally pervasive and inclusive. Painfully, my mind could not help but travel back home, and some years past, recalling for instance how a procession of Corpus Christ was once attacked, some killed, by a brood of Moslem fanatics, for daring to process along the streets of that same Ilorin. Needless to say, such abominations have become routine. Community is sacrificed to bigotry.
It may interest you to know that, in Abu Dhabi, numerous programmes are pursued, at government expense, for the evolution of a humanized community based on religious tolerance and mutual respect. By contrast here, several tiers removed from Origin, must we turn the turban of enlightenment into a crown of bigotry? And in a society whose very constitution that supposedly governs us all guarantees freedom of belief, association and movement?
Glintool Academy Your Royal Highness, it is conduct like this that has bred Boko Haram, ISIS, ISWAP and other religious malformations that currently plague this nation, spreading grief and outrage across a once peaceful landscape, degrading my and your existence with their virulent brand of Islam. It is conduct like this that has turned, before our very eyes, a once ecumenical city like Kaduna into a blood-stained mockery of cohabitation. It is conduct like this that makes it possible for a young student, Deborah, to be lynched in the very presence of armed police, on mere allegation of having belittled the image of a revered prophet. It is action of this nature, perpetrated in obscure as well as prominent outlets of the nation that turns a young generation into mindless monsters, ever ready to swarm out and kill, kill, kill. Simply kill for the thrill of it, but under presumption of religious immunity. It is conduct like this that then nerves one extremist to wake up one day in a Scandinavian country, publicly announce his intention, and proceed to make a bonfire of copies of the Qur’an. Reprisals follow, equally mindless, trapping humanity in an ever-ascending spiral of costly but gleeful violence.
This continent has endured centuries of disdain and despoilation at the hands of alien religions – Christianity and Islam at the forefront. Both religions have been sanctimoniously deployed as justification for unspeakable atrocities, for the dehumanization of the black race. Do I need to teach you your own history, or is it that you prefer to forget? To encounter, in this century, a convert to alien spiritual dogma, appropriating the cloak of piety to impede the observation of our antecedent spirituality is not just racial treachery but an assault on civilized conduct as a universal aspiration of humanity, where every discovery, every new encounter usher in new propositions of enlightenment. Humanity builds on the past, preserving alternatives of world views, not destroying that past which, in any case, is indestructible. Your conduct is an affront to my sense of racial being, and that holds true for millions beyond these national and continental borders, stretching into the Americas and the Caribbean. There you will still encounter ISESE and allied spiritualities. There, ISESE still exerts its hold on the human spirit. Visit Brazil, go to Columbia, explore Cuba, and be humbled by the tenacity of this spirituality among the descendants of black humanity.
Even the sturdiest of thrones crumble. Long after you and I are gone, generations will continue to endure the effects of present anomalies, pretensions, hypocrisies, will continue to harvest the bitter fruits of the seeds of discord being sown by their forebears. I therefore urge you to rein in those agents of division, of triumphalist intolerance, such as the Majlisu Shabab Ulamahu Society. There is a thin line between Power and Piety. Call Yeye Ajasikemi OIokun Omolara to your side, make peace with her and make restitution whichever way you can for this grievous insult to our race. We know the history of Ilorin and the trajectory of your dynasty – but these are not the issues. The issue is peaceful cohabitation, respect for other worldviews, their celebrations, their values and humanity. The issue is the acceptance of the multiple facets of human enlightenment.
The greatest avatars that the world has known were not without human frailties, flaws, and errors of understanding. You are NOT Omniscient. And you are not Omnipotent.

Fujiyama: ^^^
He may be 'primitive' but underestimate him at your peril. His kinsmen are in charge of the town that is the topic of discussion of this thread. Ilorin is the capital of Kwara and Sulu Gambari is the supreme traditional ruler in that town and the entire state. Never forget that the Emir reigns over a city that is a vassal state of the caliphate that he, Sulu Gambari represents. That is the cold reality. The Yoruba city of Ilorin is NOT a vassal city of any so-called caliphate. Go and read about the Yoruba man called. Balogun Alanamu (or General Alanamu). He and his lieutenants were the rulers of Ilorin as of the time the British led by George Goldie of the Royal Niger Company invaded Ilorin and met a very stiff resistance from Balogun Alanamu and his men. Eventually the British subdued them in the 1890s and had them deported as punishment for their resistance to the British invasion. A Hausa man was stupidly and wrongly put there to replace General Alananu instead, and that is how the Gambari line evolved. Gambari is the Yoruba name for Hausa not Fulah! The British later accepted they made an error and before they left Nigeria in 1960, declared that a Yoruba Oba should be installed in Ilorin, a referendum was needed but it was never carried out. The military years also enabled the "Hausa-Yoruba" lineage calling themselves emirs to continue to shift the goal or stall the implementation of a Yoruba Oba in Ilorin like the British suggested. In the Acting-Governor General of Nigeria Sir. Alan Burns book, "The History of Nigeria," he clearly stated in the 1920s that out of the 10 largest towns in Colonial Nigeria, 9 of them are Yoruba towns and Ilorin was listed among the 9 towns. Kano was the only non-Yoruba town out of the 10. Other British archival materials clearly list Ilorin as a Yoruba town. Period. |

EcoBrick: https://punchng.com/lagos-obas-canvass-august-20-as-isese-day-holiday/ Brazil officially declared an Isese national holiday for her citizens when the Ooni of Ife came visiting Brazil again in 2023. A place like Bahia in Brazil has a heavy presence of the Yoruba religion and culture. Cuba, Venezuela, etc, also a strong presence of the Yoruba descendants from especially the 1800s. White and black Cubans, Brazilians, Venezuelans, etc, are adherents of the Ifa religion... even right up to within the Hispanic community in the U.S. So, it is not out of place for the over 50 Obas of the different towns in Lagos State and other Yoruba states to call for an Isese day since Yoruba culture is studied and respected on a global level. |

maureensylvia: A lot of experiences I'll share on this thread I'll start with this one
Please read and digest with maturity
One fateful Saturday morning during the month of November, as early as 5:30am, I was dressed up to go to the village market to source and buy soyabeans for my client
it's a 3 hour journey, I supposed to be in the market latest 8am to source for the Soyabeans. I selected two of my boys to go with me. it was a smooth ride I must say, past 8am we were already in the market...
Majority of the sellers were not yet in the market, I got a bench and sat down while waiting for them to come. My two boys went to drink Shai at Mai shai stand... Shai is Tea. Mai shai is Tea seller
Past 9am there was no signs of the soyabeans sellers... I put on my "Patience" Jacket 😄
I was already hungry but I didn't want to eat what I saw there. I yawned and yawned no be person tell me to go to the Aboki Mai shai stand to request for a plate of noodles...
My goodness!!! the noodles was tasteless!
I managed to eat only the eggs that was spicy.
Around 10am they started coming. Atlast !! I exclaimed. But there was a development... the soyabeans I was seeing there was not up to the grade I wanted. soyabeans differs and I wanted the best grade.
After a short while I saw the grade I was looking for but the quantity was so small as I needed a trailer of soyabeans.
I made up my mind to go and come back in the next market day but my boys suggested we go to another market that's more bigger than the one we came to.
After much deliberation, I gave in.
Me: How long will it take us to get there My boy: In few hours we'll be there Me: It's alright, let's go.
We left the bush market past 10am boarded a taxi and that's it... 11am we're still on the road!
Me: Haba we never reach🧐 My boy: no ma, we will soon. reach
Me: ok ooo
Few mins later the taxi dropped us, I looked around I was seeing only bushes no market. Hiannn Sule this is not market na.
He told me here ends where motor can go the rest of the journey will be on bike
whaaat!!! I exclaimed
My boy: Don't worry ma we will soon reach
Me: ok ooooo🤔 This must have been a hair-raising journey for you. Eternal vigilance is key in life. |

Throwback: You cannot vote 95% for a fellow Igbo and call my own tribe as tribalist for voting a fellow Yoruba at 60% of votes cast.
You cannot have the politics and political appointments in the SouthEast to be exclusively for Igbos, but you want to participate in the politics and political appointments of other regions.
This is why Ahmadu Bello came up with the Northernization policy when he was the Premier of the North.
Simply beacuse some people having exclusively occupied all the positions in their own region, wanted to be allowed to compete for roles in the North.
Despite all the lamentations of Igbos about their phantom discrimination in other parts of Nigeria, they are the ones who still boast that they have displaced "lazy" indigenes in their home region, while no tribe can displace Igbos in their own home region.
A weird case of an aggressor crying that he is being assaulted, and hoping that will prevent the 'foolish' victim from seeking redress. |

masseratti: am not a Prince, because my mother is from kings /Kosoko family does not make me a Prince nor even if my Farther is from there, that been said. Two wrongs don't make a right, we have seen movies of people in Iman turban with a gun likewise a Buddhist mink in a robe shooting, all those didn't make people to go hysterical, the attack on the movie gang of Lagos is uncalled for, to be honest the attack is even making the Producers more money, I never saw it until the attack started on the movie I watched it and I see nothing wrong, for the umpteenth time it was just a scene of someone disgusting under the cloak of ẹyọ to shoot someone else, am very sure the producers had no intention to disrespect the culture we all cherish on the Island none at all. What I think this attack is on is the other story line of a Political Godfather using the system to get his way, people who are attacking the film sees it as a depiction of Tinubu has the Godfather, whether it's true or not is left to the imagination of the viewer. To me I can't discredit Tinubu for anything he stoop to conquer, he paid his dues and I pray he will be a very better President than all the previous we had because it will be good for us. They are attacking that movie not because of ẹyọ But they want to be seen in a good light that they are doing it for Tinubu, and Tinubu to me is way too more wiser than their shenanigans they should let the matter rest abeg... The movie is over a year now they should let the movie rest and die down, than making unnecessary pronouncement to seek favor from Tinubu government, they should allow the man to concentrate abeg. Thanks for adding more clarity here. I didn't realize it's your mum you were referring to as being of Oba Kosoko descent. But then, if she is, then you are a royal scion though. As of now, Eyos only use the sticks and are better organized in recent memory. In any event, I have watched movie trailers of the film but not the full version. Most of those talking here have been watching the freely available downloads of the movie. Last but not least, I heard that same sarcastic reference being made of the now President Tinubu being the so-called "Godfather" (within the first one week of the movie premiere in early 2023). This ridiculous info including the attacks on Lagos Island and was spread originally by some non-Yorubas, majorly the Ibo dudes online, radio, and offline in a sarcastic and taunting way. I enjoyed reading your feedback here. All the best. |

masseratti: on a normal good day I won't have reply your post, with your you dey craze bull shit...
Let me start from this am an Islander Isale eko... Kosoko royal family kings
There are several movies that have been done with ẹyọ carrying heinous acts, gang of Lagos is not the first.
For sake of sanity the character used the ẹyọ regalia has a form of deceit to gain access to commit crime, that alone should tell any sane mind that the producer of the movies are not saying the "masquerade" it's self is a murderer. It's Akin to a thief in cassock or in Iman garb, that does not says priest or imans are thieves, they will lose woefully if they step into a court with their argument because it's merely a film, and no law of the land says people should seek permission from the king, or anyone before depicting any masquerade on films, it's a fiction, not a documentary.
TO now school you, I myself have adorned Oniko regalia way back. Eyo festival use to be very bloody everyone knows that's, that's the main reason it has been restricted to the TBS in recent years and no more on every streets on the Island.
They should come out and say they are not happy with the other deeper scenes of political God father's in the film.. But truth is everything in that movie is simply Lagos Island.. Truth hurts my brother...
Ni ilé ayé rẹ má pé ẹ ní ti o mọ ni werey mọ My brother, a word is enough for a wise. A lot of people as can be seen from the bigoted posts here and elsewhere have been taking everything in that so-called movie literally and that is the danger you are not seeing as a Kosoko Prince that you say you are because these creeps are de-marketing Eko (Lagos Island) and claiming that it is just a fictional movie. The Buddhists and Muslims have at different times criticized the wrong depictions of their cultures and religions in adverts and movies. This is no different from what Eko indigenous folks are condemning in that already massively pirates movie. Period. |

alphonsojaybaz: Dangote: Africa’s Biggest Philanthropist
The president of Dangote Group of Companies, Aliko Dangote, through his foundation, Aliko Dangote Foundation (AFD) has been recognised for his love for humanity in desiring to promote the welfare of the less privileged. Through unprecedented donations in Nigeria and in Africa in general, Eyes Of Lagos gathered that, the businessman has been helping victims of natural disasters, building schools and hospitals, and supporting initiatives to eradicate poverty and debilitating diseases such as polio. The Aliko Dangote Foundation is the Philanthropic endeavor of Alhaji Aliko Dangote. The main objective of the Foundation is to reduce the number of lives lost to malnutrition and disease. Combating Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) in children, is at the core of our programming. Improving the outcome of children’s lives, forms the basis for the work the Foundation is engaged in, using its investments in health, education, and economic empowerment to help lift people out of poverty. Aliko Dangote has been rated 11th of the 50 World’ Greatest leaders for 2019. The rating carried out by the Fortune Magazine, an American multinational business magazine headquartered in New York City, United States was released recently and focused mainly on the businesses run by the men and how they have used it to impact their society positively. The time-tested magazine, which first edition was published in February 1930, said the world’s greatest leaders both men and women are transforming the world and inspiring others to do so in business, government, philanthropy and the arts. “These thinkers, speakers, and doers make bold choices and take big risks- and move others to do the same”, the magazine declared. This is the first time Fortune magazine is recognizing and including Aliko Dangote in the annual ranking. Specifically, Dangote having popped up in the magazine’s radar earned nomination after being adjudged as having used business to acquire wealth and who is now converting his wealth into impactful philanthropy through his Aliko Dangote Foundation. The ranking of Dangote as one of the greatest business leaders has attracted comments by eminent persons around the world who described him as worthy of the nomination going by his business acumen and philanthropic gestures. Global business giant and founder of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. Bill Gate extolled the efforts of Dangote in making businesses play roles in provision of sound public health through his various interventions in health care issues especially in the fight against malnutrition and routine polio. Gates, who himself was ranked along with Dangote, said “Aliko Dangote, through his leadership at the Aliko Dangote Foundation, is a key partner in the Polio eradication effort, strengthening routine immunisation and fighting malnutrition in Nigeria and across Africa. Aliko bridges the gap between private business and public health in a unique way and our shared belief that Nigeria will thrive when every Nigerian is able to thrive drives our partnership.” Renowned activist and co-founder of ONE, Paul David Hewson, popularly called Mr. Bono said he was not surprised at Mr. Dangote’s feat globally, saying his vision is as big as the African continent. Bono, a global campaigner on taking action to end extreme poverty especially in Africa said, “Aliko has a vision just the size of his continent, but with humility of somebody who has just started his first job. It’s no surprise to me that Fortune would recognise his leadership because we have seen first-hand, through his service on ONE’s Board, the benefits of his wise counsel and grace.” Also, the popular economic analyst, Mr. Bismark Rewane stated that, “Aliko remains understated but very potent and Africa’s most successful and decorated entrepreneur. He is a global financial and managerial behemoth.” Dangote as the Africa’s richest worth $16.4 billion, according to Bloomberg and the four publicly traded companies under the umbrella of his Dangote Industries now account for about a third of the value of the Nigerian stock exchange. That wealth is based on a big bet on Nigeria’s economic independence, Dangote’s peers give him credit for helping the country become self-sufficient in the sectors in which his companies compete (cement, agriculture and mining) The Aliko Dangote Foundation (ADF) is the Philanthropic endeavor of Aliko Dangote. The main objective of the Foundation is to reduce the number of lives lost to malnutrition and disease. The Foundation is poised to combat Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) in children, as the core of its programming. It has also resolved to use its investments in health, education, and economic empowerment to help lift people out of poverty. It would be recalled that Dangote was last year ranked among 75 most powerful persons on the planet, ahead of the Vice-President of the United States of America, Mike Pence. Aliko Dangote has been named among most powerful persons in the world for the past five consecutive years. According to the Forbe’s 2018 ranking of the World Powerful people, Dangote ranked among world leaders like Xi Jinping, the Chinese President, Vladimir Putin the Russian President and Donald Trump, the President of the US, all of whom were ranked first, second and third respectively. He was the only Nigerian on the list and one of the only two Africans who made the list with the other being the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who was ranked 45thmost powerful. In the same vein, he was named among the 100 most influential personalities in the world in 2018 by Time Magazine, leading business broadcast organisation. The CNBC had earlier in same year ranked Dangote as one of the 25 people which have had most profound impact on business and finance worldwide. He was rated the most influential African by Jeune Afrique in their classification of the most influential 50 Africans in 2018, and was also named the 6th most charitable person in the world in the same year according to Richtopia, a United Kingdom-based digital platform. He is, in addition, the richest African, according to Forbes. Dangote stepped up his humanitarian activities recently spending billions of Naira to build hospitals and critical hospital equipment, the lack of which has forced Nigerians of means to seek medical attention abroad. He also donated a N1.2 billion Business School complex to Bayero University in Kano and another one for the University of Ibadan Business School. Last month he donated 10 blocks of hall of students’ hostel that can accommodate 2,160 beds to the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna state The business mogul has continued through the Foundation by disbursing N10 billion to vulnerable women across the 774 local governments in the country. He made a donation of $2 million to the World Food Programme as part of efforts to help Pakistani nationals devastated by floods in the year 2010. Dangote was the chairperson of the Presidential Committee on Flood Relief, which raised over N11.35 billion, of which Dangote himself contributed N2.5 billion, an amount higher than the entire contribution from the 36 state governors in Nigeria. So far, the Foundation has spent over N7 billion in the troubled North Eastern part of Nigeria to see to the full reintegration of persons and communities ravaged by the activities of Boko Haram terrorists.

OmoOgunOriginal: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanguardngr.com/2023/07/ogun-assembly-approves-august-20-as-isese-cultural-day/amp/ Even Brazil declared a national holiday for the celebration of Isese in early 2023 when the Ooni officially visited Brazil and spoke to all the members of the Brazilian Parliament. The Yoruba religion is an international religion that is practiced worldwide. What those religious bigots and creeps in Ilorin did is a violation of the constitution in Nigeria that grants freedom of association. Even the British clearly stated in the archives and history books that Ilorin is a Yoruba town. Sir Allan Burns who was the Acting-Governor General of Nigeria CLEARLY stated in his hugely popular book, "The History of Nigeria" that Ilorin is one of the 10 largest towns in Nigeria out of which 9 of the 10 towns including Ilorin are Yoruba towns. Respect for other folks' beliefs is key here. |

infofirst: To make 10% on a $100k account. If you open 1lot, you need 1000pips in a 20 trading days, 250 pips per 5 trading days and 50pips in a day. You think that's difficult or impossible to achieve? Good scalpers can get the full leverage and so are the day traders and swing traders. The industry is for everyone irrespective.
