Refree's mistake has given Colombia a goal advantage.

Japan can still contest the validity of that free kick awarded against them.

mgbadike81:
rubbish post,
(1) he's just taking delivery of the helicopters and yet claiming that they have commenced bombing on the same spot, that's a self evident lie.
(2) he claimed that they have constructed two helipads for their fighter jets, another lie because jets use runways not helipads.

in as much as Buhari wants the Fulani vs Fulani violence in Zamfara to end, I consider this news a mere propaganda to balance yesterday's news of bombing Benue villages by the Air Force.
Bloggers must chop. None of the two deployed helicopters can carry any sort of bombs whatsoever yet the blogger managed to pull that lie.

BTW, who would mention helipad and fighter jet in one breathe?

Most annoying part is they are all bashing bidexiii, accusing him of advocating for a new air defense system, meanwhile he was just answering your initial question.

“Does Nigeria field any system with air defense capabilities”
Bidexiii answered: no they’re all obselete and everyone went balaistic, please where is the lie in that statement, when was the last time our Roland Missiles ( which haven’t received any upgrades since inception) were involved in any kind of life fire exercise ??

Throwing around “requirements, risks assesment and priorities” like they know anything...

In the early 2000’s the findings/results of a risk assesment carried out showed that the next biggest threat to our national stability was an insurgency, was anything done about it?
Bidexiii's reply was succinct, exactly what I expected. I never expected that the argument would drag on for this long.

I knew we still have the Rowland, I have seen pictures of them before on this thread. In fact, I read about our obsolete (and therefore nonexistent) ADS before asking. I also came across a post on "Ourtimeiscome", where abiodunalasa copied what he posted.

The point I want everyone to understand is that Nigeria needs to be proactive.

If we genuinely purchase our defense equipment based on our perceive immediate need, I would say our real and immediate need is to improve our intelligence gathering and better policing. You hardly read report of NIA or DSS thwarting terrorists attacks or Nigerian police arresting a wanted terrorists. And most of Nigeria's problem can be solved with better policing alone.

But who says we can't have it all? ADS, better police, Modernised Military, potent Navy and great Airforce. We should dream big!

Can’t agree with you more on this one
Nigeria doesn’t have any potent ADS, end of story.

This whole argument has been pointless and derailing,

when it’s time to derail the thread and argue blindly on matters they are ignorant on that’s when they know how to show themselves.

How can someone include radio jamming equipment, NIGCOM sat and CH3 UCAV in the same sentence as air defense? You best run away and hide your face when sensible people are arguing.
He posts for the "likes". It makes him happy even if his posts are nonsensical.

How can a country with a population of nearly 200m not have a real air defense system and some people are here defending the indefensible?

Oga, you need to read what you've writing over and again.

How can you say something does not exist in one sentence, then you say it exists in another sentence but it is obsolete. I don't get it at all.

Is there any evidence that there's going to be a French backed incursion into Nigeria's territory?

Where is your evidence to support your claim that the French will back Cameroun/Chad in an offensive against Nigeria when these countries are the provocators?
If something is obsolete and useless we can as well say we don't have it. undecided undecided undecided

Most have been decommissioned already

bidexiii:
Probably you don't have a point.

The Nigerian armed forces does not have a air defence capability either offensive or defensive.

Having SA7 manuals, obsolete Rowland and F-7 jets is not enough for french backed neigbhouring countries.

You don't wait till a full war or conflicts starts before start building capabilities.
It is time Nigeria military planners start using their heads.

They should produce a list of strategic defence equipment they intend to buy in long term. The most populous nation in Africa should not have the same Defensive Capability as its neighbors.

So our future threats assessment with Chad, Cameroon does not warrant us to have shot or long range missile system. 10 years no body ever thought Nigeria will be in the current Boko haram mess. Even when in the 80's we fought the Mohammed Marwa "Maitatsine", we never learnt.
Less than two years before the Boko Haram war started, I was watching Jack Bauer "24" with my siblings and I told them that "Thank God, those terrorist nonsense don't happen in Nigeria." We discussed how Nigeria may not have it all but at least we have peace. No fear of terrorists blowing you up when you go to mosque to pray. No worry over public gathering because they are prime target of terrorist. How short-sighted and naive we were!

Can we say that today?

Just because everything appear peaceful doesn't mean it is. Do we wait till sh*t hits the fan before we start begging countries to sell us weapons. Haven't we learn anything from our experience so farhuh huh huh

You are still wrong bro, blowpipe and rowland are still in active service in French and British Army.

Where you have a problem is comparing a long range air defence system like S-300 & S-400 with a short range air defense system like Rowland and Blowpipe available in Nigeria.

Look around sub sahara Africa and tell me any army with long range or even medium range air defense system. Even south Africa haven't integrated the Land based umkomto missile in the army yet (which is also short range) probably because of funds.

Don't compare Egypt with Nigeria because they have lot of enemies around them or Algeria that is scarred of NATO invasion.
Blowpipe and Rowland are in use by them after undergoing numerous upgrades.

The one currently field by Nigeria is obsolete and most other operators have retired theirs for better systems.

Nigeria need to be proactive for once. We shouldn't wait till disaster strikes before we begin running helter-skelter.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Battle Field Discussion (picture/video) Of African Military . by Xbee007(m): 10:33am On Jun 18, 2018
Thank you all.

In other words we have no potent Air Defence System because those we have are obsolete and if we ever put them to use, they will most likely fail miserably.

We need something better than those manpads too.

For starters, Nigeria should go for at least Pantsir-S1 or S300.

Correct and even more dangerous is that small groups of people on the pay of like foreign countries , NGOs , religious groups , dissidents can paralyze a country easily .

A couple of months ago a Vatican funded group of around 200 people of Ind.... origin sitting in America and Europe managed to create riot like conditions via networking through WhatsApp.

They took help from western data analysis and data mining companies to help themselves in their cause.

Now working on ways to shift all ind.... relevent social media servers to the country from their foreign locations, including ind... specific servers of all financial transactions companies.

China did the smart thing when they banned all foreign social media.
The world is giving too much power for single organisation to handle. Worst still, foreign countries with interest in a nation can easily control the minds of people. The Chinese made a very smart move by banning those social media from their country.

Can a country like USA allow a foreign Social Media to have such unfettered access to their people's data? No.

Nothing happened but it is a very dangerous thing .

Yesterday a report landed at my desk which stated that disinformation and rumour mongering is the biggest threat . Given that it is the age of information or rather disinformation it can make or break a nation easily.

People have started moving away from books with authentic verifiable sources to unreliable media , utube videos , blogs and forums as their information source.

All these does not bode well.

WhatsApp did more damage to us last year than terrorists and naxals combined , would u believe it ?
I actually read an article on BBC recently that showed the danger of unverified news sources. Two innocent people lost their lives.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-44435127

During the Ebola issue in Nigeria, WhatsApp messages were being sent around that drinking and bathing with salt offers a permanent cure and inoculation against the deadly disease. My hypertensive grandma drank and bath with salt, luckily she survived but hundreds across the country weren't so lucky.

Till today I still get such ludicrous messages telling you not to drink certain brand of water because it is deadly or not to take certain medicine because it has killed hundreds of people in a certain country. A simple Google search will show it is fake and has been circulating the internet for years.

If you want to kill an organisation/business in Nigeria just craft message saying the products of such organisation has killed several people and send it dozens of people and instruct them to forward it to 20 others. Trust me within few hours the whole country will get such message and millions will believe it without making any conscious effort to authenticate it veracity.

Even our Vice President said the most immediate danger Nigeria faces right now is fake news. Oftentimes, these malicious bloggers copy gory pictures from Central African Republic or some war ravaged African country and claimed it happened somewhere in Nigeria fueling ethnic unrest.

Foreign Affairs › USS Liberty: The Day Israel Attacked America. by Xbee007(op): 7:38pm On Jun 08, 2018
Today marks the 51st anniversary of Israeli's attack on an American ship, USS Liberty.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx72tAWVcoM

On June 8th, 1967, during the Six-Day War, Israel attacked and nearly sank the USS Liberty belonging to its closest ally, the USA. Thirty-four American servicemen were killed and over 170 wounded in the two-hour assault by Israeli warplanes and torpedo boats.

Israel claimed that the whole affair had been a tragic accident based on mistaken identification of the ship. The American government accepted the explanation. For more than 30 years many people have disbelieved the official explanation but have been unable to rebut it convincingly.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjOH1XMAwZA

Years ago, a BBC documentary, "Dead in the Water" used startling new evidence to reveal the truth behind the seemingly inexplicable attack. The film combines dramatic reconstruction of the events, with new access to former officers in the US and Israeli armed forces and intelligence services who have decided to give their own version of events. Interviews include President Lyndon Johnson's Secretary of Defense, Robert McNamara, former head of the Israeli navy, Admiral Shlomo Errell, and members of the USS Liberty crew.
