Family / 5 Common Infant Sleep Mistakes To Avoid by Y4all: 9:14am On Nov 17, 2020
Ever observe a baby squirm and struggle with a blanket or pillow while sleeping?  You’d understand why many infants die from unsafe sleep. Interestingly, most parents, especially young couples are unaware of their roles in providing a healthy sleep environment for their infants. And so, they ignorantly expose their infants to potentially harmful sleep routines.

To illustrate this, a recent research has found that unintentional suffocation- as a result of a blanket obstructing the airway, sleeping in an adult bed, infants being overlaid by their mothers or caregivers and so forth, amongst other factors are one of the leading causes of infant mortality.

Fortunately, these life threatening mistakes can be prevented if you  avoid the following infant sleep mistakes:

Sharing same bed with your baby
We understand the bond you share with your baby and how easy it is to give attention to your baby when they share your bed with you. However, a research result shows that 47% of mothers overlaid their babies while sleeping contributing to infant death due to suffocation. Rather than share a bed with your baby, put the baby in a crib or bassinet to sleep and ensure you provide a quality infant mattress. Also, as a precautionary measure, you should keep the crib close to you; in the same room, so as to observe your baby and ensure safety. The idea is to share your room and not your bed with your baby. If you snooze off, be sure to move your baby to her crib. Lying your baby on an adult bed
No matter how comfortable your mattress is for you, do not lay your infant on it to sleep. This is because sleeping in an adult bed puts the life of your baby at risk. Babies can fall off an adult bed, get suffocated in the bedding, be possibly trapped between the mattress and the wall and so forth.  The truth is that a quality infant mattress is designed to suit your infant’s needs-breathability, firmness, cushioning and comfort.  Also, laying your baby on your mattress will increase exposure to allergens while reducing your ability to control clutters that can suffocate your baby.

Letting your baby sleep on a sofa or cushion
It is not safe for your baby to snooze on the sofa or cushion, you only increase the risk of suffocation by doing so. Moreover, your baby can fall off the sofa. Studies have shown that sleeping on a sofa places a baby at a 49-69% increased risk for death. As stated earlier, provide a comfortable sleep surface for babies and not just what is available.

Using loose or soft beddings or objects
Experts have warned against the use of these soft beddings in baby’s crib as it is associated with sudden infant death syndrome. Ensure you keep your baby’s sleep space free from soft beddings and objects such as blankets, pillows, stuffed bears, toys, bottles, wires, bed sheets, bumper beds, comforters and others to avoid suffocation, entrapment or strangulation. Also note that these also include using a soft baby mattress. Babies are very vulnerable and so require a lot of care and attention.

Side or stomach sleeping your baby
Laying your baby on their side or stomach while sleeping is unsafe for your infant. We recommend that your baby nap or sleep on their back. Researches have shown that sleeping on the back reduces the risk of sudden infant mortality and is therefore the safest sleep position for your baby. However, you can lay your infant on their stomach or side while awake.

However, the truth is that, one https://www.wincofoam.com/product-category/pillows/ beneath your head can provide the needed elevation and adequate support you need. So, you do not need 2 or more pillows beneath your head to sleep well.

Besides, many sleep experts suggests that placing your head on a pile of pillows while sleeping may be the reason for that crick in the neck, frequent tossing and turning while you sleep and other discomfort you feel. This means that regardless of your sleep position: back, stomach or side sleeper, you would need one quality pillow for your head and not a mountain of pillows. We have highlighted the sleep positions and condition that would require additional pillows- for improved comfort.

Side sleepers
We recommend that side sleeper’s snooze with two pillows: one beneath the head and the other pillow placed between the knees, this will diminish stress on your hips and lower back, and promote spinal alignment.

Most women experience back and neck pains during pregnancy. This is because of the increasing weight of the baby in the womb, resulting in pressure on the blood vessel. To sleep comfortably, we recommend you place a pillow beneath your tummy and between your knees to provide relief.

Back Sleepers
One of the downsides of sleeping on your back is that it may result in lower back aches. We recommend that for improve comfort, back sleepers should snooze with a pillow beneath their knees, this will help reduce the pressure on your hips and maintain a healthy posture for your back.

These sleep mistakes are so common that they make up the bedtime routine for some people. Hence, they are trap in a daily circle of low productivity, moodiness, impaired alertness and concentration while in the long run they are at the risk of having diabetes, heart disease, and obesity.
Here are common sleep mistakes you may be making that jeopardize your chances of having a quality sleep.

Sleeping on the Sofa
One of the sleep mistakes people make is sleeping on the sofa. We understand how alluring your sofa can be after a stressful day, it’s in the sitting room and you don’t have to make further move to the bedroom, reason while you slump into your sofa and drift to dreamland. Ever heard of a neck crick? When you sleep on the sofa, you will most likely wake up with a stiff neck or a neck pain. While a habit of sleeping on the sofa every night can result in health issues such as chronic neck and back pain. Besides, you want your brain and body to get used to your comfortable mattress for quality sleep and not a sofa designed for sitting and relaxation.

We recommend that you always practice your sleep routine regardless of how you feel. This will help you body adjust to a sleep mode and enable you have a quality sleep. Imagine you disregard you routine of a warm shower because you are exhausted?

Using the conventional night light in your bathroom
The third sleep mistake many people make is not having a bathroom night light. Creating a dark bedroom environment helps you fall asleep faster, but how about the light in your bathroom? Having the regular bulb in your bathroom will still suppress your ability to sleep. This is because; your bathroom light emits the blue lights from your devices that you may have successfully put out in your bedroom. Family / 5 Bedwetting Hacks To Help Your Kids Have Dry Nights by Y4all: 3:56pm On Nov 06, 2020
For most kids, wetting the bed is a really humiliating and overwhelming habit especially when it lingers into adolescence. Often times, the embarrassment and guilt about wetting the bed can have a great impact on a child’s self esteem if not properly handled.

Unsurprisingly, about five in 100 kids wet the bed at night with a higher rate found amongst boys than girls; a ratio of 2 boys to 1 girl. Interestingly, medical experts have attributed hereditary as one of the notable causes of nocturnal enuresis (a medical term for bedwetting), while other causes include: small bladder, hormonal imbalance, sleeping deep, constipation and so forth.

Bedwetting is common in most families, in fact most parents worry about their kids wetting the bed and they feel helpless to stop it. Families that have a bedwetting kid(s) have to deal with the urine odor, stain on the mattress and beddings and accompanying allergies. Although, most kids naturally would stop wetting the bed with time, but for some it’s a habit that requires deliberate guide to stop. We understand the physical and emotional stress cum discomfort you go through as a parent or guardian and have provided useful tips to help your child stop bedwetting . Let’s get to it.
Reduce Nighttime Fluid Intake
You can help your kid stop bedwetting by regulating the amount of fluid they take in especially at night. Fluid here also includes caffeinated drinks, in fact, it is important that your child don’t consume drinks that contain caffeine at night, it should be completely avoided. Specifically, more water should be consume at daytime (morning and afternoon), while your kid sip healthily at night.

Night Waking

Although frequent night waking can disrupt sleep quality, however, waking your child at intervals to empty their bowel will help prevent bedwetting. This is a training that once instilled, will make the child more conscious and so can easily wake up from deep slumber. Most parents find this extremely stressful as they also have their sleep interrupted and may sometimes sleep off but then you can have a bedwetting alarm set at intervals.

Regular Use of Toilet/Bathroom During the Day
Constipation is one of the causes of bedwetting for children. According to medical experts, too much stool in the lower intestine places pressure on the bladder and reduces its ability to hold urine. This inability to hold urine due to constipation can make your child wet the bed at time. Ensure your kid eat healthy (snack on fruits more), and that they poo and urinate regularly during the day. Also you must train you kid to use the bathroom before bedtime, we recommended 2-3 urine trips to the bathroom

Ensure Easy Access to the toilet

This entails ensuring their is light in your kid’s room and the bathroom consecutively. Kids naturally do not like darkness and may be forced to wet their bed if the feel the urge to urinate because of fear.

Give Positive Affirmations
Guess you never thought of this as a remedy. We understand it can be really stressful dealing with a kid that wets the bed, nonetheless bedwetting is not a deliberate act, and it’s not your kids fault. So, do not spite nor punish your kid for bedwetting. Children thrive when they are praise and motivated and not criticize nor condemn. So rather than yell or punish the child, give positive remarks such as; 'I am proud of you,’ this is only a phase’ and so on. Also teach your kid to make positive affirmations about themselves. To illustrate:  You can teach them to say: I wake up with a dry night. More so, you can tell your kid a story of a relation, family friend or loved one that battled with bedwetting. What happens when they have a dry night? Applaud them.

Family / Mattress Warranty: What You Need To Know by Y4all: 10:15am On Oct 27, 2020
A reoccurring question most mattress sellers or dealers are daily confronted with is: does the Dual side mattress has a warranty. What most mattress buyers need is a guarantee on their investment and a warranty gives them the peace of mind that they seek. A mattress warranty is a promise made by a mattress company to its customer, to repair or replace a mattress with defects caused by the mistake of the mattress manufacturer and not directly by the customer. Interestingly, Warranties do not cover mistakes made by the customer but defects as results of the manufacturer’s mistake.

The most common mattress warranty in Nigeria is the written warranty. With a written warranty, a mattress manufacturer or seller provides a written affirmation which promises to replace or fix a defect in line with its stated terms and conditions. For instance, the exclusive mattress has a written warranty of 10years while the dual side mattress has a 5years written warranty.

Although, mattress brands differs in terms of what their warranties covers, but generally, most mattress warranties cover the following physical defects;

Sagging
A common defect easily spotted by mattress users is early sagging or the sinking of a mattress. Unarguably, a mattress may sag after a long period of use or its expected lifespan but when it begins to sag few months into use, then it’s obviously a product defect and your warranty ensures you get a fix or replacement depending on the extent or depth of damaged as specified by the terms and conditions attached to the warranty.

Faulty Seams

Most Mattress manufacturers or sellers also provide warranty for poor finishing’s. This includes undone or loose edges or bad mattress fabric. If such mattress has a warranty, you are sure to get a free rework on the mattress by the manufacturer.

Breaking or Popping Coil
Mattresses made of spring coils are often backed by warranty. This is because the coils might break, bend or pop out of the side if not properly packaged. Remember that a warranty covers the mistake of the manufacturer, so a mistake on the part of the manufacturer that might result in breaking, bending or even popping of the spring coil is fixed by the manufacturer at no expense to the customer.

It is also important to note that the warranty doesn’t cover the comfort of the customer; this includes how well you sleep on it- most mattress companies offer a free sleep trial period to help you determine if your investment is worth it with regards to comfort. However, a defect caused by stain, discoloration due to machine or hand wash, a hole caused by manhandling or personal puncturing, improper support, uneven weight distribution and the likes, is not covered by this warranty but rather categorized as the mistake of the customer, therefore the customer pays for any associated expenses.

To avoid confusion and unnecessary drama, ensure you consider and understand the terms and conditions attached to a warranty before investing in one.

Family / How To Care For Your Kid's Mattress by Y4all: 1:34pm On Oct 23, 2020
Many Kids throw caution in the air when it comes to the way and manner they handle household items. Ideally, you don’t expect them to be as cautious as you are when using mattress or beddings. For instance, most kids use their mattress for trampoline: they jump, dance and play on their mattress for fun, while some kids are in the habit of bedwetting every night, others will rather get their homework done on their mattress. Here’s the breaking news: kids don’t ‘care’ if their actions threatens the lifespan of their mattress- after all, dad will get a new mattress if this one goes bad.

Think of investing in a new mattress every year, it’s an expense you don’t want to incur. Therefore, we have provided tips on how to take care of your kid’s mattress, to ensure it provides them the comfort and support intended for a long period of time.

Ensure Proper Training
Kids are most times the product of continuous training and rebuke. Do not watch your kids jump on their mattress or engage in acts that will ruin their mattress without prompt rebuke and correction. This is because they are ignorant of the consequences of their action. You can create a do’s and don’ts mattress list for your kids.

Provide an Alternative Playground
Using a regular mattress might just not work for your kids. You’ve got to be creative if you want your kid’s mattress to last longer. You can provide a 3D foam automated mattress, carve out a play mattress from your old mattress or even customize their mattress to suit their play needs. Your kids will derive the same pleasure they seek and not misuse their mattress.

Invest in a Quality Mattress Protector
You do not want urine and other stains to make your kids mattress worn out easily, resulting in an unplanned expenditure.  A mattress protector will keep your kids mattress clean and free from urine and other stains- it covers the mattress and prevents direct contact of stains with the mattress; it also limits the accumulation of dust and allergies, promotes the lifespan of the mattress and protects the warranty on your kid’s mattress.

Sanitize their Mattress
Ensuring a clean and safe sleep environment for your kids is essential for your kid’s wellbeing. One of the ways to care for your kid’s mattress is to engage a mattress sanitization service. Scientifically, a regularly used mattress has 100-000 to 10,000,000 dust mites, these dust mites could result in allergies such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy, red or watery eyes,  cough , itchy skin for your kids. As a solution, a https://www.wincofoam.com/mattress-sanitization/ will get rid of bed bugs and dust mites unknowingly living in the mattress. It is a chemical free process, a dry treatment that also gets rid of odour and bacteria's.

Wash Beddings Regularly
When kids play on their mattresses, beddings also suffer harm because they are also used every day. Interestingly, beddings are receptors for bacteria and heat that would not only disrupt your kid’s sleep and health. We recommend that you wash your kid’s beddings weekly to get rid of dead skin cells, dirt and dust capable of building up in their mattress.

Ensure Proper Ventilation
You can air your kid's mattress regularly by taking it outside and ensuring proper ventilation of the bedroom. This is because dust mites and bacteria thrive in a moist and poorly ventilated bedroom.

Family / How Healthy Sleep Can Set You Up For Success by Y4all: 1:03pm On Oct 22, 2020
Ever heard of sleeping to succeed? Certainly, not getting the recommended amount of sleep and in fact healthy sleep is linked to serious health problem(s) such as heart disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. Insufficient sleep can also result in impaired alertness and concentration, low productivity or stress for all groups of people: entrepreneurs, professionals, students and artisans consequently affecting their potential for success.

Who doesn’t desire success? While there is no one definition that fits all for the word success, generically, when one accomplishes a set aim or purpose, he can be said to be a success. Interestingly, many are ignorant of the correlation between healthy sleep and success. In fact, some argue that to be successful, you have to sacrifice sleep for work. However, while this may sound convincing and true, giving up sleep for work can make you less productive.

This article reveals how healthy sleep can set you up for success and why you must have a healthy sleep habit if you want to succeed at anything. Let’s explore;

Sleep Makes You Healthy
Health they say is wealth. If you must succeed in life, you need to be healthy and strong. Sleep is a restorative exercise; it helps repair our blood and heart vessels and renew our energy, promoting a healthy wellbeing.  However when you decide to ignore sleep, you put your health at risk; diabetes, heart attack, obesity, high blood pressure and what have you. Certainly, achieving your goals and aspirations is the least thing you think of when you are sick. So, sufficient sleep is vital to your physical, mental, emotional and social well being.

Better Productivity and Performance
Of course, healthy sleep is linked to increased daytime productivity and concentration. Sometimes, the drive to be successful can sometimes be overwhelming, but adequate sleep each day will renew your energy for the task ahead, enabling you focus and work optimally. You do not want to find yourself sleeping in a productive hour of the day nor nodding during a business meeting with prospective investors, do you? Amongst all your strategies, let healthy sleep be a priority for you.

Sleep Improves Cognition and Memory

Succeeding at a task or endeavor requires smart thinking and creativity. Healthy sleep recharges the brain, leaving you more mentally alert and cognitively sound for the next day. Burdened by many stressful events, sleep helps you unwind and boost your cognitive ability. What happens when you do not get enough sleep daily? Your ability to process and retain information is negatively impacted, and your concentration level drops. You do find yourself fatigue and drowsy for the most part of the day. How can you have a successful career, business or academy with little or no creative ability, a worn cognition or impaired memory?

Better Emotional State
The more quality sleep you have, the better your ability to be in charge of your emotions, stay calm and navigate challenges to our advantage. This is a vital ingredient to success. When you sleep better, you are less likely to get agitated and snap at our team or people around us who are sometimes important to achieving our set aims.

However, here's our article on https://www.wincofoam.com/how-to-make-up-for-lost-sleep/ if you are currently a sleep debtor.

Family / 4 Maternity Must Have For Pregnant Women by Y4all: 2:36pm On Oct 20, 2020
More than ever, a pregnant woman requires not just sleep but quality sleep to enhance the health of both mother and child. The period of pregnancy is often times challenging and really stressful: the back aches, frequent urination, fatigue, night sweats and extra weight all contributes to the discomfort these pregnant women experience.

Most pregnant women spend more time shopping for their unborn baby than they do for themselves; theirs's always a budget for baby clothes, diapers, baby carriers, strollers and the likes. While this is great, you should also consider items and services that will adequately provide the support your body needs this period, leaving you and your baby healthier and happier during and after this period.

For instance, not only does she experience the discomfort from constant bathroom trips, her sleep partner in most case her husband will also share in the stress of this sleep disruption if the right mattress isn’t use.

Here’s a review of “maternity must have's” that will best suit your sleep need's while pregnant, making the journey less stressful and beautiful.

The Right Mattress

Using the right mattress during pregnancy is as important as taking your routine drugs. We recommend investing in a dual side mattress. A dual side mattress is a two faced mattress, with one side made firm and the other is soft.
It can be flipped to provide the required support in any trimester. So, you don’t have to bother about getting a new mattress to suit your body changes.
It aids spinal alignment to prevent or reduce pains.
It is resilient: springs back to shape after being compressed, this helps prevent sagging.
It has a firm edge support. So, you can easily get in and out of bed.
The soft and firm part is designed to ensure pressure point relief, support your back, hips and shoulder.
The dual sided mattress distributes body weight. This helps reduce pain caused by weight gain during pregnancy
The mattress has a 5 years warranty with a free 14night trial.

The Right Pillow
Sleeping on the right pillow while pregnant can be equated to sleeping on an angel’s wings. While different women prefer different level of firmness, but using a soft pillow may not be the right choice this period. You need a pillow that will relieve head and neck aches. There are a number of pregnancy pillows to shop for. Reviewers think the elegant pillow which comes in king and queen sizes is ideal for pregnant women. These are its unique features;
It is made of fiber and will provide adequate support for head and neck
You can use this pillow between your knees to provide relief for your hips.
It offers a comforting touch to your upper body while you sleep
It can support you in multiple different positions.
It lasts beyond your pregnancy days.

A mattress Topper
Do you struggle to get a beauty sleep from your mattress and yet can't replace it due to cost? don' t worry, we've also did a research on an alternative for you. Fortunately, you can get a mattress topper to give your current mattress the support it needs. A mattress topper is designed to enhance the feel of your mattress; it will also alleviate pressure points and help align your spine.

Get a Leg Rest
Statistically, 40% of pregnant women experience varicose veins. These things occur when the weight of the uterus and fetus exerts pressure on the legs and feet. This can be often times discomforting and frustrating for some women. Using a leg rest is one of the simplest ways to ensure even blood circulation and drain accumulated fluid in the feet and leg during pregnancy. It provides elevated support for the leg and feet, alleviating pain and discomfort. Invest in a Leg rest today for a better pregnancy experience.

Family / 5 Do It Yourself Tips To Stop Snoring by Y4all: 4:45pm On Oct 16, 2020
Do you know Kåre Walkert? She holds the Guinness book of record for the loudest snore in the world, with a peak level of 93decibel. Interestingly, research has shown that 45% of adults snore occasionally while 25% are habitual snorers. Snoring is that unpleasant sound or noise we make while sleeping. Sometimes we are the culprits and in other cases we have had the experience of sharing the same bed \room with a snoring partner or family member; that unpleasant sound can distort your peaceful slumber and may even keep you awake all through the night.

Funny enough, you may think your snoring partner is enjoying a beauty sleep while ours is distorted, this is not correct. People who snore do not sleep comfortably as they often experience- daytime sleepiness, tiredness, lack of concentration and moodiness.

Most individuals who sleep or live alone are unaware they snore; this is where the Sleep like Android app comes handy. While for some who are aware, it’s so disgusting and embarrassing that they seek a solution to it. There are conditions that necessitate snoring, these include; sleeping on your back, drinking excess alcohol before sleep time, weight gain, too much stress, stuffy nose, or sleep loss.

While snoring associated to a medical  condition known as obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA), a sleep disorder that causes breathing to repeatedly cease and start, is more chronic, a condition that requires the doctors evaluation for treatment, however, not everyone snores as a result of Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

These tips will help those who snore not as a result of obstructive sleep Apnea (OSA) but due to conditions listed above:

Change Your Sleep Position
You are most likely to snore loud and even often if you sleep on your back. This is because when you sleep on your back; your airways are narrowed, preventing the free flow of air resulting in obstruction in breathing. To help prevent snoring, practice sleeping on your side henceforth. This will allow the free flow of air.

Practice a Healthy Lifestyle
If you really crave for a change, it’s time to change your habits. How about reducing your intake of alcohol, quit smoking and curtail late night feeding and excess food before bedtime if you are a culprit. Alcohol, smoking and other unhealthy habits causes the tissues in your throat to relax, resulting in the blockage of your airway. This will make you forcefully reach out for air and in the process make unpleasant sounds. Ensure you drink enough water and eat well balanced diets  everyday.

Exercise
Engaging in regular exercise amongst many health benefits helps control weight gain. Snoring is often a result of weight gain or obesity. Sometimes, when we gain weight, excess fat is deposited in the region around our neck and throat, resulting in snoring. Set up an exercise routine: daily walk out, jogging, skipping or enroll in a fitness and wellness class. The goal is to reduce accumulated fat in your throat.

Get an Elevated Support for your Head
You can support your head with a firm pillow that properly aligns your neck and head, or raise your bed a recommended 4inches high. These will allow an uninterrupted passage of air through your lungs and reduce snoring.

Sleep well

Not only does inadequate sleep make you snore, it also has an adverse effect on your wellbeing. When you are sleep deprived, you are most likely to snore loudly and frequently, this is because as you try to make up for lost sleep, your throat muscles may excessively relax.  Have a sleep schedule and ensure you follow it strictly.

Family / 8 Sleep Hacks To Help You Fall Asleep Faster by Y4all: 5:06pm On Oct 15, 2020
One of the basic needs of man is sleep. This is because sleep is nature's way of restoring the body and setting it up for the day’s activity. So, while you may joke around with other daily activities, one thing you don’t want to toy with is adequate sleep. With so many daily stressful life events: the pressure to complete a task, financial obligations, family responsibilities, amongst others, the only thing you desire at the end of the day is to peacefully drift to dreamland. But sometimes, many people struggle to sleep; they lay on their beds ruminating on the the day’s activities and strategizing for tomorrow. Unfortunately, they sleep late and are obligated to wake up on time. Wondering how to fall asleep faster?

Here are helpful tips to enable you snooze faster

Put the Lights Out
Except you are comfortable with the light from your electronic gadgets, tech-devices or light bulbs, but of course you are not, so put your tech devices at bay, switch off the television and turn off the light bulb. This is because the blue light from this devices interferes with your biological clock. So, rather than have a dark environment that prepares your body for sleep, you'd have an artificial lightening especially when not dim that keeps your brain active and makes it difficult for you to sleep. To fall asleep easily, create a dark sleep environment, you can also use black eye shades or eye mask, if there are still traces of light.

Invest in a Comfy Mattress and Pillow
Sometimes a sagging or worn out mattress or an uncomfortable pillow could be the culprit. Sleeping on a less comfortable mattress and pillow makes catching some Z’s difficult, you may keep tossing till late hours and might also wake up with body pain or headache. Do you want to fall asleep easily? Get a https://www.wincofoam.com/product-category/mattress/ or pillow today. This enables you to slip to dreamland easily, and you are certain to have a peaceful slumber.

 Try this Relaxation Technique
Engaging in a breathing exercise is one sure way to snooze faster. A slow, deep breath is always calming and restorative. We recommend the breath counting exercise by Dr. Andrew Weil. It’s a simple relaxation technique that helps you sleep faster. Here’s how it works:
*Ensure you sit in a comfortable position with your spine properly aligned and head well position.
*With your eyes close, take a few deep breaths and exhale slowly and naturally without force.
*As you breathe in, you count “one” only when you breath out.
*Repeat this action as you count “two”, “three” to “five” and start from one again.
*You must stop at 5 to repeat the circle again. Do not exceed “five”, when you do it indicates you are not concentrating.
*You can do this for a period of ten- fifteen minutes

Keep a Cool Room Temperature
When considering things that can help you fall asleep easily, a cold temperature might be the least on your list that's if even listed. Ever been to an interview in a cold office setting and notice you are struggling to stay alert? Quite embarrassing right?  A cold room helps you sleep faster and better. Although our comfort preferences differ, research has shown that cooler temperatures help our body relax and comfort.

Engage in an Art
Whatever rocks your boat; you can read a book, listen to soothing music or even create or visualize beautiful memories. The goal is to do something that makes you relax. Do not read a horror story that may cause sleeplessness due to fear and anxiety or play songs that are negatively stimulating.

Have a Refreshing Shower
We watch this trick work so well on kids but oftentimes we are engrossed in the needs of others that we neglect ourselves. Tonight, ensure you take a hot or cold bath, whatever rocks your boat before bedtime. This does not only have a refreshing effect, but it also gets the body set for sleep.

Change Your Eating Habit
If you consume too much food at night or eat late at night, its time for a change. This is because, when you get too full, you will keep  tossing and turning on your bed. You do not need excess food at night, after all, you only need more energy at wake time not sleep time. Heavy meals, especially food with high carbohydrate content, take your body a long time to digest and this process can distort your sleep time. We advice that you take heavy meals or foods high in carbohydrate at least 2-4 hours before bedtime.

Create and Stick to a Sleep Routine

Do you have a bedtime routine? If you don’t, create one ASAP.  A bedtime routine helps your body prepare for sleep. for some, it’s a daily circle of taking a light meal, have a warm shower, put on the pyjamas, say a word of prayer or engage in meditation, put on the eye mask  and they are already sleeping. A bedtime routine helps achieve sleep faster because your body has become adjusted to your schedule and knows when to start winding down. The magic is in sticking to your routine.

Health / This Is How A Quality Mattress Improves Your Health by Y4all: 5:22pm On Oct 12, 2020
Not every mattress guarantees quality sleep and as a result improved health. While some are concerned about getting a ‘cheap’ slumber surface without regard for quality, others will rather invest in a mattress that is comfy and promote wellbeing regardless of the cost.

Investing in a high-quality mattress is not a luxury but criteria for improved wellbeing and productivity. While the idea of quality is subjective, yet, when it comes to the choice of a mattress, a constant is a mattress that provides the needed support and comfort for your body.

Here are ways a quality mattress improves your health.

It Tackles Pains and Aches
Your body needs all the support it can get to provide the required energy we need for a productive day. Sleeping on the right mattress provides a much needed support alignment for your body. Ever slept on an uncomfortable mattress? You sure wake up with pains in your back, hips or neck. This is because rather than have a restorative sleep, you would spend a greater part of the night tossing and turning, in search of a comfortable sleep position. A quality mattress saves you this stress by ensuring an even distribution of your body weight and relieving accumulated stress in pressure areas.

It Aids Weight Reduction
Surprisingly, when your body is well rested, you wake up feeling light and renewed. This is because when you sleep more, you weigh less.  A growing body of research has supported this claim with further insights. Sleep has an overwhelming effect on weight loss or gain. For instance, while we sleep, we burn between 50 and 100 calories per hour. This is not to suggest that sleeping alone without other adjustment in your habits will shed all weight. However, when you sleep on a quality mattress, you are assured of a quality sleep with an impact on your weight. Not only does sleeping aid calorie burn, your cravings for foods with high calories and fat are also controlled.

It Eliminates Stress and Worries
Many people literally use the expression “sleep and forget your sorrow” as a way to communicate the effect of sleep on relieving the day’s stress.  The fact is, you can only have a deep slumber that reduces stress on a quality mattress. Sleep is a restorative exercise, when you are well-rested, you are more focused and organized, emotionally balanced and cognitively sound. Not having the right mattress, set you up for nights of sleep loss and deprivation consequently increasing rather removing your stress level and adversely affecting your sleep quality.

Prevents Snoring
Your mattress can make a difference when it comes to snoring. One of the common causes of snoring is the mattress in use; the right mattress is designed to maintain proper head support which prevents the obstruction of your airways while sleeping. This does not only improve your health but it also improves the quality of your relationship with your sleep partner.

Reduce Exposure to Allergies
Mattresses are breeding grounds for dust mites that cause allergies. However, a thick mattress surface makes your mattress less habitable for dust mites. Allergies caused by dust mites include sneezing, coughing, watery eyes, runny nose amongst others. These symptoms are capable of adversely affecting your health and productivity. However, a quality mattress provides a guard against these health hazards.

Family / Simple Ways To Care For Your Mattress by Y4all: 4:00pm On Oct 08, 2020
It is not enough to get the right mattress that suits your sleep needs and comfort. There is more to buying the right mattress: you need a knowledge of how to care for your mattress to maximize the benefits of your investment.

So, here are tips on how to take care for your mattress to make it last longer and serve you better.

Switch Your Mattress Sides
For your mattress to last longer, it is important to rotate or flip your mattress occasionally. When you rotate your mattress, you only  turn it by a degree of 180 but still lie on the same surface of the mattress , however, flipping involves completely turning your mattress over to sleep on the other sides. Though not all mattresses can be flipped, but if possible, flipping or rotating your mattress at least every six months ensures even distribution of the pressure on the mattress, reduces the potential of wear and tear and extends its life span.

Use A Bed frame
A bed frame provides support for your mattress. While some mattresses come with a bed frame you should get the right bed frame  that  can adequately carry you and the mattress.

Use a Mattress Protector
An investment in a mattress protector is the  easiest means  to extend the lifespan of your mattress. A mattress protector shields your mattress from stains, and exposure to dust mites and other pollutants.  With a waterproof mattress protector, your mattress will be free from spills, or bed wetting stains and odor that can ruin the warranty on your mattress or even result in quick wear and tear. If you want a clean and nice mattress for a long period of time, then get a mattress protector today.

Don’t jump on it
It may feel good bouncing or jumping on your mattress, but hey, you are setting the coils and fiber of your mattress up for quick damage. This means another budget and expenses for a new mattress.

Remove Stain Immediately
Got a stain on your mattress? You can easily get rid of stains without harming your mattress. It’s important to remove stains immediately to avoid setting deeper into the mattress. You can remove stains by mixing a small amount of baking soda, salt, and water in a bowl. Apply the mixture to the stain and wipe away with a moist clean cloth after 30minutes. Interestingly, baking soda is also used to absorb smell from a mattress.

Ensure Proper Ventilation
Of course, your mattress needs to breathe too. A poorly ventilated mattress restricts the movement of air resulting in so many disadvantages. Imagine sleeping on a mattress that continuously absorbs sweats, oil and even moistures from the air without proper ventilation. As expected, the  smell from such a mattress will be unpleasant; with a potential for health issues as this disturbs sleep. We recommend using a bed frame or bed base that is porous and regularly opening your windows to allow proper ventilation.

Change your Spot frequently
Certainly, we all have that spot on our mattress that gives us the desired comfort when we sit to tie our shoes, cream our body or even get dressed. Breaking News! That spot is under undue pressure and needs relief. Sitting on the same spot on your mattress every time can cause your mattress to lose its shape.  Imagine if that spot sags while other sides retain its form.

Health / 5 Reasons You Struggle To Wake Up by Y4all: 3:39pm On Sep 30, 2020
Fighting out the beautiful dreams to get out from a pleasant sleep is a struggle for many people. In a study, 32% of employees have blamed their lateness on oversleeping. Ever snooze the alarm and postpone your wake time because you’d rather catch some more sleep. You are not alone.

Sleep is exercise that aids the relaxation of the body and enables the body to heal and recover for the next day. We often experience the displeasure that comes from the consciousness that we have to wake up from our beauty sleep and face the day’s activities.

Ever wonder why? Here are reasons you struggle to get up from your bed

You went to bed late
Remember the “early to bed and early to rise” philosophy. Understandably, our jobs, family and other commitments often steal into our sleep time but if you do not stick to a regular sleep-wake schedule, chances are you’d often fight your way out of bed. Scientifically, the body’s master clock in synchronization with the brain regulates your body activities and this includes sleep. If disrupted, by a change in sleep time, your wake time will also be affected while you struggle to wake up. Improve your bedtime routine to prevent the struggle.

The Season of the Year
Many people attest to enjoy their sleep more during the raining season. This is because during the raining seasons, the body achieves a natural deep sleep process because of the cool outdoor temperature while the hot-dry season is not only physically discomforting but also prevents the body from achieving deep sleep. So it is more difficult for us to get out of bed during the raining season than the dry season. Keeping yourself warm in a cold temperature will help you get out of bed easily.

Your Gadgets
It is common to close the day by reading and responding to our emails, hooking up with friends on social media, reading e-books and playing our favorite games. While we carry out these activities, our eyes are exposed to the blue lights that radiate from these digital gadgets which delays nod off time. As a solution, you can turn on the protective device on your gadget, or avoid spending time in front of any screen 1-2 hours before bedtime. This makes dozing off easier.

It’s your Makeup
Ever heard of a night owl sleeper?

Genetically, some people are wired to struggle with waking up from sleep. These are the night owl sleeper’s. They are natural late sleepers and usually struggle to wake up in the morning.

Stress and Anxiety
Stress can reduce your quality and quantity of sleep. Tossing and turning on the bed is a symptom of worries and stress which places the body in a state of unrest and makes dozing off difficult. Stress and sleep are interwoven, when you are under stress, a state of deep sleep may be achieved late in the night and triggers struggle waking up. Ensure you unwind before going to bed and engage in other activities that can relieve the worries and stress.

Family / What To Do With Your Old Mattress by Y4all: 4:43pm On Sep 29, 2020
You have made a decision to buy a new mattress, annoyingly, you do not know what to do with your old mattress. Like most people, there's a struggle with the decision to thrash your old mattress in a refuse site, simply burn it or leave it in your home to gather dust and take up valuable space. We understand your flight, interestingly your old mattress still have life in it.  It carries the potential to become a valuable possession if you are willing to give it a second chance.

So what do you do with a mattress when it has reached its end.  Interestingly, your old mattress is an asset, reason we would share with you tips on what to do with it.

Swap It
How about a brand new mattress in exchange for an old one? This is not an impossible feat. Most foam companies offer mattress swap services which afford you the opportunity to get a new mattress in exchange for your old one at a fair rate. Does your mattress dealer run these services? If not, you are still at advantage as the mattress swap service is not limited to a brand of mattress, you can swap your mattress regardless of the brand at Winco foam industries. So, rather than dump your old mattress in your home or a refuse site, you could get value from it.  Ensure you understand the terms and conditions attached to these services before you explore.

Give it out
If you have no need for it, you can give your mattress to people who need them around you. You’d be amazed at the sense of fulfillment you will derive. Shockingly, there are underprivileged people around you that couldn’t afford a mattress so they resort to mats or bare floors, you can also donate your old or used mattress to orphanage homes or to the internally displaced peoples camp, this will save you stress and also enhance the living condition of others.

Reuse it
Most mattresses are made of foams and these foams can serve other purposes. Consider cutting the foam into smaller crumbs to make a pillow or throw pillow.  How about creating a bed for your pet, a pad for your car seat or stuffing your sofa to have a cozier feel. While you can sell the wood or the metal spring component of your old mattress as scrap, you can also use the wood for carpentry works and the metal spring can be re-used for flower holders. The idea is to be creative with it rather than dump or burn it.

Sell It
You think nobody would settle for an old mattress right? You are certainly wrong. You can make extra cash from selling your used mattress to foam companies, furniture shops, pet centers or even individuals or families that need it for varying purposes. Although you won’t get as much as the price you paid for it, you'd get rid of the discomfort that comes from having your mattress collecting dust and taking up valuable space in your home.

In today’s world of green thinking and sustainability, dumping your old or used mattress in a landfill, burning them or even loitering them around your home makes you a culprit and a victim. So, next time you buy a new mattress, and need to discard your old one, or maybe you have an old mattress you need to dispose of, try one of these tips and you’d be happy you did.

Family / How To Get Your Kids On A Sleep Routine by Y4all: 1:49pm On Sep 24, 2020
Getting children on a sleep routine is one task every parent gets to undergo as they bring up their kids. How to get children to bed is one concern that not many parents have been able to deal with as this is a somewhat difficult mission- getting kids to bed every night.

The interesting part of this is that you will be unable to sleep until these kids are asleep, especially when they are newborns, infants, toddlers, preschool, and school age-say about age 0-12, these are the real deal.

Children require more sleep than adults. However, if they don’t go to bed in good time, it can rub on their parents’ wellbeing. So, for both parents and kids to get enough rest and sleep, there is a need for the parents to learn to get their children on a sleep routine. Now the big question, how do you get children to sleep at night? How do you keep them on a sleep routine? Here we have simple tips that can help you and your kids have more nights of great comfort.

Set a bedtime and wake-up time
As adults, we create a sleep routine for ourselves to help us manage our day adequately. Doing this for your children isn’t a bad idea as long as you have a grasp of the amount of sleep that is adequate for your kid’s age. A routine can help to reduce the stress of getting kids to bed and waking them up every morning. By nature, children adapt to regular patterns and with consistency, their body clock adjusts to the routine created for sleeping and waking up.

Just before their set sleep time, turn off television, computers and put aside gadgets that transmits blue lights- you can give them a warm bath and read bedtime stories to them. The important thing is that the routine is not changed, you need to be consistent if this must work for you and your kids.

Avoid certain meals before bedtime
Sometimes, children get hungry even after dinner or demand things to eat moments before their bedtime. As parents, you should know when to say yes or no to a child’s request, especially when you don’t want them to bed wet. If you must give them something to much shortly before bedtime, make sure it’s a healthy snack and a nourishing drink.

Caffeine is not proper for children especially at night, it contains stimulants that can alter their sleep routine. Instead, give them healthy foods or fruits if they have to eat something a few hours to their sleep time.

Make the sleeping environment comfortable
Many times we talk about getting the right mattress, but children also need the right mattress and a great sleep environment to enjoy quality sleep. This means that there is a way a child’s room would be designed and it will help the child fall asleep with so much ease.

Depending on the age of the child, not all kids would require a dark room. Also, some kids might get scared if the room is too quiet, therefore, you can stay with the child and wait till he/she falls asleep before you exit the room. What is important is for you to make your children’s room an abode that’s suitable for them to easily fall sleep, keep it tidy, and teach them to maintain it.

Engage them
You need to engage your children in activities that keep them stimulated and fit so that they easily wind down at night when it’s time to sleep. Ensure they get regular exercise, play with other kids when they have to at the same time, get enough rest.

Help alleviate fears
Children are easily scared by different things. Some are scared of ghosts, monsters, and the many things they see in movies. You can help them address their fears by simply reassuring them that nothing can come after them. Of course, you should do this in the day while you converse with them. Ask them about their fears and reassure them where necessary.

Turn off screens
Earlier, we talked about putting off screens before bedtime. According to a 2017 study,” Watching TV, playing video games, or scrolling web pages on a phone or computer right before bed keep your child up an extra 30 to 60 minutes.” Therefore, put away items that transmit these blue rays at least an hour or two before bedtime.

Lookout for sleep disorder
The problem might be a sleep disorder. Watch out for this, and address it as soon as possible. Expert Mitchell says, if your child has trouble falling asleep, has persistent nightmares, snores, or breathes through their mouth, they might have a sleep disorder.” You can try to keep your kids on a sleep routine, but if there is a sleep disorder that is not addressed, it certainly will frustrate your effort to help your kids enjoy quality sleep at night. Lookout for sleep disorder and quickly schedule an appointment with a pediatrician when the need arises.

Science/Technology / How Technology Affect Your Children’s Sleep by Y4all: 9:50am On Sep 23, 2020
Sleep is an essential part of every human, whether young or old. It keeps the body refreshed and helps to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Whenever you think of your wellbeing, bear in mind that it does not concern your feeding alone, your sleep and exercise also play significant roles in your total wellness. The amount of sleep you get as an adult tells on your productivity. Have you wondered what the amount of sleep your children get does to them? Or how it affects them?

What to know
Children need quality sleep to function well and develop properly, however, it turns out that technology is making it pretty difficult for them to maintain a stable healthy life. On average, they need about 10 hours of sleep daily. Just the way a good night’s sleep is necessary for an adult, that is how a proper sleep quality is vital to a child especially at their growing and developmental stage. In recent times, research has shown that “extended use of media devices on a daily basis is not only dramatically raising children’s BMI (Body Mass Index) but leading to daytime inattention, exhaustion and poor quality and duration of sleep.”

The rate at which children are given gadgets this day is soon becoming alarming and therefore calls for parental guardians so that the impact of these devices and even television screens does not cause a deterioration in their health. Please note, there is absolutely nothing wrong with children watching television and even using electronic devices for productive stuff, however, there is a need for proper monitoring and checks. Ensure kids are not overly attached to technology to avoid sleep anxiety, waking up too frequently at night, and low sleep quality. See how your child’s sleep is affected:

Poor sleep quality
The light from gadgets and television is known as blue light. This light has a negative impact on sleep and inversely tells on your child’s health. Studies have shown that “late-night smartphone and tablet usage can not only keep your kids up later and make them sleepless but can also throw off their circadian rhythm, an internal clock that manages sleep cycles.” If your children have not been sleeping well, try to set things right, if they use blue-light gadgets know when to retrieve them to help them lead a healthy life.

Short sleep duration
Technology’s interference in your children’s sleep can cause them to experience shortened sleep hours. This can affect them greatly. Kids need time to exercise, burn energy, and even replenish for them to continue to stay healthy at all times. As earlier suggested, keep an eye and try as much as you can to control their routine.

Addictive tendency
Children have the natural tendency to get addicted to things to excite them. One of the things they can easily become addicted to is their IPad, iPhone, and even electronic games. If you always let them have their way with this gadget, they would become so used to it that even taking it away from them can pose a serious challenge.
Some of them even throw tantrums when they become used to gadgets and you later try to take it from them. Try as much as you can to see that your children don’t get addicted to devices and they never take phones and electronic games with them to bed. Better still, find some replacement activities that they can engage in that would not require them to concentrate on blue rays.

Expecting a baby is one pleasant moment almost every parent looks forward to, the joy is overwhelming. However, there is a need for you to pay attention to your baby’s sleep life and mattress, hence the reason why we want to consider those things you should put into consideration when you want to buy a baby mattress.

One has to put extra safety measures in place when nursing a baby as these small creatures are very fragile and rely solely on their parents for total care and safety. Here are specific tips worth looking out for when you want to decide on a mattress for your newborn.

Safety measures
Yes, you read that correctly. The first thing you want to put in place for your child is a good check on their safety. You certainly don’t want the child to suffocate in his/her sleep. Therefore, there is an imperative need to ensure the child’s safety to avoid Sudden Infant Death Syndrome(SIDS) which can sometimes be a result of parental negligence or ignorance.

There is a standardized dimension for baby’s mattress that makes it easy for manufacturers of these products to do the right thing. So, make sure that your child’s safety is at the top of your mind as you decide and source things that would be used by the baby. If you would go for a baby’s crib, make sure you get the right one that guarantees your child’s safety.

Breathability
Still as regards safety, when deciding on a mattress for your baby, make sure that the fabric and even the mattress are breathable. As babies grow, they can turn their heads. If the mattress isn’t safe, it can lead to suffocation. Most advisably, you should pick a mattress that allows air to flow through. Also, a breathable mattress would help to regulate your baby’s temperature as well as keep them in a Safe space. Don’t make the mistake of leaving your baby on your mattress without keeping an eye on them, these precious souls are very helpless and would always rely on you to be their help, make sure you don’t fail in this regards.

Firmness
Very important is the firmness of your baby’s mattress. A medium-firm mattress is often advisable when considering a mattress for your newborn. Findings have shown that it is better than soft mattresses as a soft surface would easily lead to suffocation for infants or increase risks of SIDS. Therefore, the firmer the mattress the safer it is.

Choose non-toxic products
It is important to choose healthy products for your baby; this also should include the mattress product make up you decide on. If you can afford organic products for the child you love, why not? Go ahead and get the best. Knowing that your child would have to lay on this mattress from the early part of their life makes it very cogent for you to pay attention to the choice of mattress you chose for them.

Check the mattress cover
Earlier, we stated that a breathable mattress is most appropriate for your baby, which is true. But also, you need to carefully check the cover of the mattress. Is it waterproof? Is it hypoallergenic? These and other important questions you should answer before you conclude on a choice of baby mattress. As much as you can, pay attention to the surface of the mattress, and even the kind of fabric or material you use as a bedsheet for the infant’s mattress. All of this would help you keep your baby safe.

Your pillow is saddled with the responsibility of supporting your neck to prevent strains and pressure. When a pillow is too high or too low, it can tell on your welling. However, as experts, we suggest pillows that can support different sleep positions as explained above. We strongly advise that you identify that pillow that works well for you and stick to it.

Maintain good posture
