As if that's not enough, you challenged yourself further by moving over to Italy and you conquered Italy.

As if that's not enough, you conquered Europe with Portugal.

You're the real goat.

grin RN. One went to Texas A&M. Not sure how they all did it though.

This is how it works. What you want to study in the US has nothing to do with what classes you took in a secondary school in Nigeria. All you need is to gain admission to a US college, and this is possible through your high school transcript, O'level, and/SAT. Community colleges do not require SAT, they only need your O'level or high school transcript. Several universities also do not require SAT but it is advisable that you take it especially if you are aiming for a scholarship. You can apply for any major you want, it doesn't matter whether you were an art, science, or commercial student, or whether you took chem, physics, or whatever. You can apply for nursing, engineering, or whatever even as an art student. To further buttress my point, you can apply to student Chemistry even if you were an art student who never took chemistry before. U.S. colleges do not care about what department you were in, and you will find several students like you who are just taking that class for the first time. So, if this is what you want to do, have no worries.

That was why I wrote that to him. Maybe I can be fortunate

There's no way you could get a score of 1218 in the SAT. The SAT scores come in a multiple of 10.

Oga Macky, I hail o, please what about females migrating to the US via masters route? How is the dating scene for them? I hardly read stories from females that have migrated, abi single ladies moving to the US isn't that rampant? My cousin sister intends to travel for her masters and I overheard her mumsy telling mine that she is scared of her moving alone especially as she isn't married yet, she is fearful that she won't be able to find someone to settle with, she just turned 26, If some males find it difficult to settle with reasonable ppl what about black African ladies? Any idea of how it is for them over there?

Abeg any one with info pls feel free to contribute.

I think it is tough for everyone - both males and females - but it appears to be easier for the males because they make the move, while the females wait for others to come for them first. In the West where everyone tends to mind their own business, it is very hard for people to make a move to you first when you are different - black, foreign, etc - unless when they just wanna hit on you for a one night stand, at the club, or something along those lines. So, the best solution is to be brave enough to make the move especially when you're black or different in some way. Not to say people will not make advances toward your cousin sister or others in a similar situation, but the truth is that it is not as common here as it is in Nigeria where every man would be rushing her. Here, people tend to mind their business a lot, therefore, when she gets here, she shouldn't be afraid to shoot her shot, because waiting may cause her to wait for longer than expected.

Canada provides one of the best environments to raise a family, school and do business. Nigeria is one of the worst places to do business. If not for myself but for my children, I will prefer Canada. My kids need a better and secured future in canada than in Nigeria where the only secured future is for political, religious and traditional rulers.

Nobody has a secured future anywhere in the world.

You have some points up there but sometimes it depends on the whites you roll with.

True, but there is a general view, if you understand what I mean. For example, it may not be the specific white or group you roll with, what about their family, their own friends, the society, etc etc.? But the important thing is that we as blacks need to pull each other up, and avoiding each other to follow other races will not help in that aspect.

Drenimarcus:

How does it?

First, do you agree that, doing that (rolling with the other races as against yours) wouldn't solve the problem on ground? The other races support their types, only blacks seem not to. Several of the shootings around are by blacks on blacks. We only hear screams when it's a white on black. Now, with blacks pointing fingers at one another, and dissociating to form allies with other races, who will be there to lift the blacks up? Interestingly, the other races know you're not a part of them, they do not wholeheartedly accept you even though they pretend to. Don't you feel like an outcast sometimes when you're the only one with them? It will worsen the situation because it will reek of inferiority complex in you - at a point you will be rejected on both ends - with nowhere else to go. Blacks will have to lift each other up. Imagine, how many whites (I mean the well attractive, privileged ones, not the left-over) want to marry blacks? They want to roll with their types. Even the rare few that do, how many in their family approve, and isn't it to a black of high status? Why roll with people who do not totally accept you and are covertly condescending to you or your types? Blacks need to change and unite, because no one will help us.

And for Nigerians that go to the US and start ignoring their fellow compatriots, I smh for those ones. We like to copy and overdo.

70,075,212 people earned under $25,000 – 42.85% of the total
44,496,340 people earned between $20,000 and 50,000 – 27.21% of the total

I have realised almost every Nigerian has a bitter story to tell about a wicked, harsh or dubious uncle especially the ones in the hometown angry

Is it just an African thing? Is it about transfer of aggression or what? Just why the bitterness from uncles?

Like my uncle now, he promised heaven and hell to take me to Germany till now he hasn't. I have accepted my fate. If i don't have money to go to Germany, i go find one sane African country and start my life all over there.

One thing is certain, i won't stay in Nigeria for long smiley

The problem is the expectation that we have given ourselves. Do not expect anything from anyone. If your dream is to go to Germany, start working towards it on your own all by yourself. You can do it. It may take time, but you'll eventually get there. Don't expect any uncle to help you. If we start reducing our expectations of people, our disappointments will start reducing.

When I first moved to the US at a young age, I didn't know anyone here. I was told by my dad that a certain son of one of his adopted dad's kids (whatever that is called) was in the US. I didn't care. I did all I could all independently and moved smoothly. Not long after I arrived, I was told a sketchy story that the guy died. How he died, I don't know till this day. But I never cared, because it had absolutely nothing to do with me. If I had connected with him before moving to the US, his death would have probably impacted my life more.

This is not to say we shouldn't learn to connect with others. As a matter of fact, networking is great. It is not about what you know, but who you know. However, there are very many things we can do on our own without having to involve others, especially in this immigrant/non-immigrant move. Let's identify those things and work towards our goals by ourselves. Thing is, many of these our uncles who abandon us when we get here did the whole process on their own, without the support of any uncle. Therefore, they do not owe us any support either. If they could do it, we can too. Let's reduce our expectations or reliance.

When I say it's fixed, it means the amount that must be paid to the school - cannot be dodged or reduced.

Variable means you can choose to sleep outside for free. It's individual dependent.

I understand what you are saying. I'm looking at the fact that you quoted a certain amount as your fees, just as schools would put them out on their cost of attendance breakdown. What I'm saying is that, in some schools (not all schools, maybe your isn't among too), you may end up paying lesser than the fees they put out because many of them base it on 18 credit hours, while you could take lesser. And this is especially common for undergrads.
Travel / Re: Naija to Yankee Thoughts And Experiences by yemiosinbajo: 2:41am On Sep 15, 2019
MackyNaija:

My school cost about $25k per annum according to the i20.

But one can do...
Fees $7500 (fixed)
Living cost in a shared apartment (variable) ~$350 monthly, $4500 a year
Feeding $2000 a year (variable)
Misc $2000 a year (variable)

Total is about $16k, if it exceeds that amount it wouldn't go beyond $20k but the i20 says $25k.

Not having this knowledge is why people delay starting the program sooner. Some people spend less - the school fee is the only fixed cost and the rest depends on the individual.

Even the school fees is not fixed in places where they charge per credit hour. What you pay depends on how many credit hours you take, but people should bear in mind that they cannot take below 12.

Also check out Morgan State, Edwards waters, SIUE and Mississippi Valley State ... The all give full ride though the last one requires you to be a fresh high school graduate. And WES evaluation is required for most, you prolly did that for Howard so you good.

Wait, what do you mean by full ride? Are you saying these scholarships cover tuition, room, board, books, insurance, personal expenses, and flights (because that is what a full ride is)? Or do you mean it only covers tuition? Please, endeavor to always be specific.

Sometimes I wonder how we think in this country...the police saw a viral video of senator who was beating a woman and they did the needful by inviting the senator and even charge the matter to court. ...is this case different?

Yes, this case is different. In the former, a video was an evidence of the presence of assault. Although a video could be doctored, the accused, or perpetrator of crime (the senator) owned up to the crime by making a public apology. This means he already accepted that he committed the crime and the video was not doctored. In other words, this was not an allegation, it was a fact! Therefore, there is no need for investigation; the police could go straight to charging him to court as a criminal.

In the Dakolo case, on the other hand, what is present is only a public allegation; there is no proof as of yet. In addition, the accused, the pastor, has publicly denied the allegation. Considering there is no evidence yet and only a presence of an allegation, the highest the police could start with is an investigation. In addition, due to the nature of the allegation and the channel it was sent to (the public), the police could not simply start arresting anyone. The parties involved would have to first invite the police into the matter. In this case, we have not heard that Timi Dakolo or wife reported to the police, it was the accused, the pastor, who reported. And the only thing the police could do is to invite the other party, since one party has reported. And this is what they have done. They have visited the house to deliver a letter. If the Dakolo family had reported the pastor to the police, the police would have equally visited the pastor's house to deliver the letter in the same way.

greggng:
Video of Timi wife was all over internet telling the world that she was raped by a pastor when she was 16years old....isn't the police suppose to invite the accused for questioning and even charging him to court.

No, the police could not just jump into the matter if neither of the party involved invites them. This is because what is on ground is, at present, a mere allegation. The accuser needs to either report to the police that something was done to her, or the accused reports to the police that someone false accused him. If neither party takes an action, the case would be left in the court of public opinion, the police wouldn't just get involved if not invited.

greggng:
Is there double standard in this case?

I hope I answered your question.

greggng:
We are watching to see how this unrepentant pastor will pull through this mess

Now, this is you being judgmental even before the law takes it course.
