I understand but it is not in the constitution

Why are you saying this? Do you know what a constitution is at all? Have you read the constitution of Kenya or that of another countries. Are all civil rules in the constitution? I advised you to read more. Start by googling "Child Pornography laws" then, come back if you have a question. Don't display ignorance with arrogance. If that event occurred in a country like the US, not only would those kids go to jail, they would also be registered as sex offenders!

they didn't rape anyone, it wasn't with minors as they were all minors and videoing yourself fucking isn't illegal

Even if they were all minors (let's assume there is no single adult among them), there is still a very big crime here. Do you know what is called "Child Pornography"? Do you know that a minor is not even allowed to take a nude picture of him or herself? If you're, say, 15 years old, and you take a nude picture of yourself, you can go to jail for "possession of child pornography". If you show another person that picture, you have an additional charge called "distribution of child pornography". It doesn't even matter that it is your own picture taken by you. Read more, my friend.

So I've narrowed my list of universities for undergraduate admissions

MIT
Harvard University
Princeton University
Yale University
Stanford University

Gpa: 4.95/5.0
WASSCE 7B's and 2 A's
Great essays
Great letters of recommendations
I've not taken SAT/ TOEFL
Due to the pandemic, but I've been emailed by each institution that I can submit my application without test scores

Pls what's my chances of admission
I'll be using the coailation app

And your questions and contributions are highly appreciated

Thanks!

Don't tell me you wanna apply to only those schools. No safety schools at all? Even students with perfect scores are not guaranteed admission to any of those schools.

Ahead in Art and sciences too, the great Alumni in those field speak for it.

Honestly we can't judge based on alumni. Unilag has great alumni too. People like Soyinka and Achebe who attended UI in those days cannot be the basis for today's assessment of the university, because the UI of today is not the same as the UI of those days. The UI of those days was in arguably the same level as the Oxford and Harvard of those days. Not anymore. And, even if we judged using that, there are loads of great alumni from Unilag, such as Nigeria's greatest mathematician ever, Ayodele Awojobi. And, personally, I'd choose Unilag's Law over UI. In fact, I'd choose OAU's and LASU's as well. But when it comes to medicine, UI isn't just the best in Nigeria, it is arguably the best on the continent, ranked among the top 400 medical schools in the world.

I attended both schools and can categorically say that U.I is more beautiful, more spacious and less crowded when compared with Unilag.

In terms of educational standard, I feel they at par. U. I is ahead research-wise because that's what most of their lecturers do. Although some of them are venturing into consultancy now.

With respect to street sense and application of acquired knowledge in the outside world, I'll give it to Unilag.

So, I will employ a U. I graduate if I need loyalty but a Unilag graduate if I need somebody to go bring jobs for me.

Which of the 2 schools would I prefer for my child? Unilag.

I believe UI is ahead only in medical sciences which is what they are known for. I once heard that 75% of research journals from UI comes from the faculty of medicine. I'm not sure about now, but in my time UI had no accounting or business-related majors.

All those female teachers walking freely after caught sexually violating minors, or the wrist-slap women get when they kill their kids? perhaps, the status of women is really strong in the USA, that a man will never be treated the same way the legal system treats women. And even more surprisingly, the women there believe they are oppressed.
Which female teachers walk freely after sexually violating minors?

True! These experiences are common too, almost everyone must have had them. I think the reason is because Nigeria is an extremely popular country; therefore, at least one is three foreign citizens must have heard about the country. Sad thing is that in the last two decades or so, more bad news have emanated from Nigeria than good which is why our citizens now get treated badly abroad. Honestly, if Nigeria had good leaders, we would be one of the best nations in the world. We have the potential. We used to lead in almost every sector in the 70's/80's, but how times have changed. The only major good thing working for us now is the music. There's nowhere in the world where they don't listen to Nigerian music. Let's hope things get better..

People sef!!!

I'm not asslicking. I'm saying things as it is.

The guy you talked about talked about how he got his green card and stuff but was immediately met with different accusations. This guy made an update. If you wanted to know anything, all you need to do is to ask a question.

No one is showing off anything. This guy has been posting even when he was applying for visa, all he came to do was to drop an update. And he answered that he married a 'white' woman, talked about how the interview was easy. What more do you expect? To talk about how to woo a white woman?

When you come here to make an update and people come to accuse you of lies and stuffs, what do you think up you'll do?

It seems you take this nairaland thing too serious to believe one would be asslicking on here. This is a faceless forum for God's sake. Got nothing to benefit from anyone.

Let's agree that we're talking about different guys, because the guy I'm talking about didn't provide any updates on how he got it. You're probably talking about someone else. A lot of people come here to show off, and a lot of people asslick. I'm not talking about anyone on this thread, but I have seen a lot. Btw, here in the US and in other places, Nigerians are well known for showing off. It's glaring. I was talking with an African-American girl yesterday and that was the first thing she said about Nigerians. And as for the people that genuinely come here to update and get accused of lying, there are hundreds of people like you supporting them, so why should they focus on the few accusing them since their intentions are genuine? #peace

Someone still talked about nairaland on twitter today. It's like this site attracts certain type of people. Frustrated and angry people.

Asking stupid questions, do you think he needs to explain anything to you?

This is how someone mentioned how he got his greencard on the student visa thread and they tackled him heavily called him names till he had to send pictures to prove himself.

People don't share their success stories because of guys like you.

Are you an immigration lawyer? Do you know even half of immigration law in the US? Everyone has different cases and situations.

Stop asslicking! It may help you in the beginning, but it won't get you anywhere. Several of the so-called success story sharers are only doing that to show off, they are not sharing the stories to help or enlighten others. This is why they usually do not share explicitly how they acheived something - they don't give any helpful information - just unnecessary show-off. I think I remember the guy on the student visa thread; now ask yourself, did he share how he got his green card in two years? No, just went to the thread to show off that he got his GC in two years of arriving in the US on a student visa. People asked him questions, sent him PM's, he didn't respond. We don't need those types of people. Fortunately for them, they come to Nairaland because that's where they would easily find people in awe of whatever they might have achieved. All that is not needed.

Really, something borders me on this covid 19 stuff... The US who is doing more testing and taking precautions seriously with her people are experiencing increased deaths almost everyday and here in Africa and Nigeria in particular, testing is very limited and people are not dieing as expected, logically I have the following feelings :

Our immune system is so strong in Nigeria that the covid19 could not break easily and I attribute this to the fact that we engage malaria drugs every now and then.

The countries doing more testing are experiencing increased cases and deaths, could it be that testing makes it more pronounced?

If the above is not true, Is it that we are lucky in africa and expecially Nigeria?

My feelings that something is not right about this covid-19 pandemic is increasing by the day.

The popular song by the legendary country music singer 'Dolly Parton' comes to mind: "Hello God"

May God have mercy on the world.

I answered this question. See my last response.

Let’s look at the numbers:

Lagos had her first case a week b4 NYC and her first death a week after NYC. Both have high population density. YET, just yesterday alone 779 people died in NY while the entire Nig has less than 10 deaths total.

If we can figure out WHY, we would have solved the riddle of this virus. SOMETHING saved us. The question is WHAT?

The answer is age. This virus kills two types of people the most: old and those with underlying health issues. Others may get the virus, but they are significantly less likely to die from it. How many old people are in Nigeria, a country where the youth form 35% of the population is the lifespan is not up to 50. This is why you have less deaths there. In the US, several people are hundred years old and above. How many are over 80 in Nigeria? Also, as you age, there is a bigger chance of having health issues, hence a lot of old people in the US have underlying health issues, so serious that if Nigerians had such health issues they would have died long ago. So many people here have been on the waitlist for a kidney transplant for more than 10 years, surviving on dialysis, something the average Nigerian cannot afford. So many have diabetes, asthma, etc. They are surviving because of the very good health care system here, and many of them live really old with these ailments. In Nigeria, you don't see a lot of people with those ailments because they already died. Now with covid-19, more people are likely to die in the US because they fall in this category of old and underlying health issues. In Nigeria, less people are likely to die because there are not many old people, and many have no serious underlying health issues. You get it now?

Realistically, your chances are very slim. It's not your fault though. The Universities have limited spaces, jamb registers about a million each year, half of that barely makes it in.

If you are from a family that relies on minimum wage, or a struggling biz, you can't get into private universities.

So by the time to manage to cross that finish line you are in a new generation with a new trend. The new trend of graduate trainee and internship with a ceiling of 26 years for most.

Lest we talk about the poor remuneration if you are fortunate to even get a job.

No startup from the Government, NYSC doesn't add any value, no savings, no help. It can be frustrating.

At 30, you have already lived half of the life expectancy for a Nigerian.

It's a tough one Bro, failure of leadership is the reason for this. Nigeria has so much regressed.

Your solution: Grace. I know people will say those clichés "learn a skill" "start a biz" don't be deceived, I know people without skills doing fine, I also know people who work for others and earn very well.

While you need to put yourself out there, you need Grace more than anything.

What is Grace and how can it be acquired?

How much does an average nurse earn in the US?
Don’t they make up to 7k after taxes?
Just curious

You should be asking if they even make up to 7K before taxes. Apart from California, New York and those working multiple overtime hours, do you know how long it even takes for the average RN to start earning $40/hr? Go to the Midwest where the average RN pay starts at around $26/hr, then do the calculation to see if they make up to $7K after the taxes.

Yea, being married really helped him, because if he didn't get married, he wouldn't have been able to start the program during OPT. He would probably need to finish his OPT. He could also get a green card through nursing via EB-3, instead of going the marriage route. I guess he fell in love tho.

Even if it not lifted, immigration is very complex and the answer to many questions are known from experience. How the new ban affects AOS is not clear at this time, and whoever gets an employer for sponsorship after studies would be adjusting status and not go through consular processing.

So, the idea that all hope is lost might not necessarily apply in some situations.

Good. I had been waiting for an intelligent person who would point this out. The ban does not affect those already in the US. As a matter of fact, even for those outside the US, there is a loophole they can explore. If you want to immigrate to the US, come in on a non-immigrant visa, then, file for AOS. The US immigration system has a lot of loopholes that people are not aware of.

It all boils down to lifestyle. If a returnee structures their life in such a way to replicate the lifestyle they were living abroad, it will be very expensive. It comes down to choices. I have tried it both ways. For example, running sound proof generators whenever there is no light, 24/7 climate controlled indoors, driver, gateman, security, cooks, cleaners etc. Where you buy groceries.... shoprite vs open markets? What do you eat? Imported vs locally grown food. Entertainment choices... eating out at expensive restauranmts and clubbing vs playing draft with the boys down the street and the occasional cold brew in my living room. These choices make a huge difference. When I'm in Nigeria with my family, I have to go the whole hog and ...

On a lighter note smiley, I remember when I first came to the US and was trying to explain the draft board game to some of my friends and no one had an idea what I was trying to say despite my comparison of the board with the chess board. I had to go online and try to find a way to describe it only to realize it's actually called "draughts" or checkers (British). Then, I started telling my friends about draughts, but they even became more confused. Had to go online again and then realized that even though it's called "draughts," it's actually pronounced as "drafts." Las las na picture settle am, but English ehnn, na wa. Still waiting for those who will start a thread on the accent culture shock they faced when they got to the U.S. Some people go make you feel like sey you no understand English or you be learner, especially in those rural areas.

Wow, so there are thousands of returnees? I never knew the number was that high! Nigeria must definitely be getting something right, or maybe abroad getting something wrong for thousands to be returning. But why are they 'dying to return abroad' instead of just going back easily? Were they deported or couldn't get a green card or what? From the OP's story, he sure could go back if he wanted. But why not the case for the other thousands if they weren't enjoying Nigeria? Something is not adding up.

If he went and came back immediately and created a thread on nairaland about returning to the US after two years, some of you would say maybe he was deported, or maybe he was out or status and life was too hard being illegal, or he was lazy and couldn't find a job, or village people were against him. If after two years, he came back saying the US wasn't Eldorado to him, some of you would have said two years was too short to run into conclusions. It's usually hard in the beginning, hence he should have waited a big longer and should have gotten permanent residency, and he would see how beautiful life would be for him. Now, he waited long enough, had everything he wanted, could stay forever and get access to the best healthcare at old age, could be free from kidnapping or whatever is plaguing Nigeria, yet, knowing all of these, he still decided to return to his motherland. Still, you guys are complaining. If anything, a person who makes a courageous move like this should be applauded.

After 33 years in a country that gave you everything? If you had left the USA a year or two after you arrived there and returned back to Nigeria then i will believe you.

The USA exposed you to those opportunities you have today and the ability to retire to any country of your choice and not Nigeria.

If he had done this, you probably would have claimed that he did so because the Nigeria of 33 years ago was better than the Nigeria of today, and would not have done so today. Now, he has done so today, but you still find a way to antagonize.

And, what in the world do you mean by, "a country that gave you EVERYTHING?" What the hell is your definition of Everything? He has been sharing the experience of things he has been doing since he returned to Nigeria - are those part of the everything that the US give him, too?

Everyone has what they love and hate, what they miss or enjoy. I know you all are still in disbelief that someone actually went to the US and came back home totally voluntarily despite being in legal status. It's OK to have any disbelief, but what's the point antagonizing him; something that you, the moderator, would be uncomfortable to see, and probably call "derailing" if the thread had been the usual beauty-of-moving-to-yankee-and-leaving-Nigeria that we always see here?
