lefulefu: You keep getting the whole thing wrong. And the big problem with you is that you keep dwelling on hearsay. You are talking about your friend here or there. Have you been to these countries yourself to experience what it actually feels like? You can't just be passing judgements based on what you hear. Now, I can't talk about Ukraine or any other country except America which is where I live. Do you know that the side hustle or menial jobs you are talking about is illegal if you are a student in the US? And your friends doing these things without five heads, what happens when they get caught? In addition, it's different for everybody. You can't compare someone studying in the US on a scholarship with someone who has no scholarship. You can't compare someone who studies in a cheap school with someone in an expensive school. You can't compare someone who has an EAD with someone who doesn't. You don't know the situation of this lady in question, and you don't know the typical situation of your friends. So, don't just make baseless comparisons. 4 Likes |

drakeli: I was going through comments and saw this, so I just decided to respond. Believe me bro, in America, you need to know someone. As a matter of fact, it is more important for you to know someone in America to rise up to the top, than in Nigeria. Do you know where the statement, "It is not about what you know but who you know" originated from? I started to hear that statement repeatedly when I came to America. Trust me, you need to build connection everywhere in the world. post=70281312: You and I know that "happy life" and "progress" are all subjective. Following the process alone does not always guarantee what you deserve here in America. It is very important that you know someone. Don't get me wrong, I'm not talking about bribery here. No one needs your bribe in America. But building bridges is very important, and it is this connection that will get you far in life. 1 Like |

Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 13 by yemiosinbajo: 10:31pm On Aug 09, 2018 |
imperiouxx: Thanks for your explanation. It seems like in this case, you qualify for the medical assistance program, and that is why they offered it to you. If you did not qualify, they probably would not have offered it to you. If you qualify for something and you make use of it, why should it stand against you in your future immigration proceedings? In addition, how will the immigration have access to your medical records (considering HIPAA violation) to figure that you received any assistance some time in the past? Does the hospital automatically put the assistance they offered you in your credit report, so immigration can trace it through your SSN? If you did not give the hospital your SSN, how would immigration learn of the assistance you received? |
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 13 by yemiosinbajo: 8:22pm On Aug 09, 2018 |
Timotee: Really? With the way the US is structured, is it even possible to apply and get something you are not qualified for? Like, will the hospital not be aware that you are not from the US? For immigration things in the future, the only way they can trace what benefits you got would be through your SSN. Without an SSN, they cannot trace it. And, if you had an SSN, the hospital would know that you are not from the US, and thus, not qualified for those benefits. So, again, how can you circumvent the system in a country like the US? |

imperiouxx: Please, can you give more details about the emboldened? What type of public assistance can an international student get when they have health insurance? I believe that if you don't have health insurance, the hospital will mandate you to pay your medical bills, or does the hospital now pay foreigners' medical bills? |

Babyvet: You dey mind them? Last last they will tell you to send them PMs to know how to make such amounts. I guess after a lot of people sent that dude PMs and he couldn't get any clients still, he finally codedly decided to make his advertisement public. People looking for referral commissions everywhere. PS: I can't believe some people actually sent me PMs after reading my post about making 1 million dollars. If you cannot spot simple sarcasm, and you expect to make one million dollars, then, you will end up falling for those who will teach you how their friends make $700,000. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Guys, please how much is GRE registration in Nigeria now, or where is the cheapest place to register. I checked the BY Mafit site and it shows that it now goes for 80K. Is that the cheapest you can get now? |

Chapecoense:This is right. Chapecoense:As I said, your wording is the problem. Once approved, there is nothing like "the GC comes first". Saying something comes first means that another thing is coming later. In other words, by saying if approved the GC comes first, you are literally saying that the work permit will follow. However, this is not the case, because once the GC comes, the work permit does not come, so you have to remove the "first". Chapecoense:If the GC is approved, the EAD is no longer needed and will no longer come. |
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 13 by yemiosinbajo: 11:33pm On Aug 01, 2018 |
Chapecoense: Ah, now I understand the angle you are coming from. There is a little mix-up going by what you stated in your initial comment. You stated that "the PR can be issued before the work permit is granted". What this your sentence literally means is that the PR can be granted first, and the work permit granted later. This is very wrong because once the PR is granted, the work permit will not be granted as the PR covers it. And if the PR is denied, the work permit will also be denied. Therefore, the PR cannot come first before the work permit. Reading the links you provided, I now understand what you are trying to say, but your wording was bad making it really confusing. |
Travel / Re: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part 13 by yemiosinbajo: 10:56pm On Aug 01, 2018 |
Chapecoense: Dude, you are talking about people who voluntarily choose not to apply for an EAD. You have the choice not to apply for an EAD, and in that case, you may get your green card without getting an EAD. It is not compulsory you apply for an EAD, as not everyone needs it. If you do choose to apply for an EAD at the time you apply for a green card, especially in the marriage case as you cited, your green card does not come before the EAD. That is where your wrong information comes from. "The work permit typically arrives just about 90 days after the application is received by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). (It takes much longer for the green card itself to arrive: 10-13 months or over 3 years, depending on the situation.)" https://www.boundless.com/immigration-resources/working-in-the-united-states-while-waiting-for-your-green-card/ https://www.uscis.gov/greencard/employment-authorization-document |

The OP created it to share his experiences in yankee, and having others share their experiences as well wouldn't be a bad idea; it actually keeps the thread alive during times like these when the OP is absent. 1 Like 1 Share |

People just go on the internet and start misleading others with gross exaggeration. One funny thing I have seen on NL is how everyone likes to use the line "one of my friends does this or that.." It's always some unverifiable friends doing this and that. Highest paid IT gurus are in the Bay Area working for companies like Google, Facebook, Apple, etc. Despite how extremely difficult it is to get jobs in these fields, no one makes anywhere near $700K a year. In fact, it is extremely difficult to get into these companies if you are not American and did not attend any of the Ivy Leagues or other non-Ivy Leagues like MIT, Caltech, or Stanford. Mark Zuckerberg was recently slammed for hiring only of 2% of the entire employees at Facebook as balcks. Now, someone somewhere in Nigeria is reading this thread thinking you can just venture into IT and start earning six figures when you graduate. They say Nursing is overpopulated; is IT not more overpopulated than Nursing? Count the number of Indians and Chinese venturing into IT. How many of them get jobs at Goldman Sachs or Yahoo? How about the very many IT graduates working in banks or schools? Even as a surgeon, you will need to work very many hours to make anywhere close to $700K. And people don't even mention the amount of taxes (may be as high as 40%) that will be taken out. Having said that, "The average annual pay for a Splunk Architect in the United States is $142,000 a year. A Splunk Architect annual salary ranges from $119,000 to $158,000 nationally. This small spread of $39,000 indicates Splunk Architect salaries are seeing little change across the country. To estimate the most accurate annual salary range for Splunk Architect jobs, ZipRecruiter continuously scans its database of millions of active jobs published locally throughout America." https://www.ziprecruiter.com/Salaries/Splunk-Architect-Salary The medical field pays the highest, and you should not imagine earning six figures immediately you graduate in IT, unless you get an offer from companies such as the ones I mentioned above. People should be wary about all these faceless forums information. 13 Likes 1 Share |
