I remember goin tru nairaland reviews of psquare's danger album, while I felt d album was okay most nairaland posts gave d impression they had crashed and burnt with it. Fastforward a few months now they have 9 nominations for MAMA awards. The thing is naija fans always want sumtin new but don't appreciate it over a long period of time. Once u appear at d top, d only way to go is DOWN, but I guess this trend doesn't appear across d continent so psquare upon their intro had their sights set on more faithfully audiences outside naija and that's y they've been able to remain so popuilar. While d quality in their music remains controversial, there is no doubtin d quality in their brandin. I mean imagine d gimmik-a pair of dancin twins who don't look bad. |

this thread is dedicated to those events in naija music which u can't understand how it happened and has remained a mystery to u ever since. Everybody is entitled to two mysteries here are mine: 1-y clarence peters shot d video for a song called STREET credibility in a studio(wat was he thinking, ) 2-how a song like BADMAN won mode lyriscist on d roll over somebody wants to die(note d songs are put in d spotlight not d artist) |
Just finished studying d fifa list of best players and discovered that d number of players in d premiership was embarrasingly too low for a league that claims to be d best. La liga had 11, bundesliga had 6, seri a had 4, premiership had 2, and french league 1. Note that this represents where these players played last season. Only fabregas and drogba represented premiership! So I need an reasonable xplanation as to y d so called best league can't boast of d best players? Mind u this list is now a combo from both fifa and ballon dor so it oozes credibilty. As far as simple logic goes, d best quality of players reflect d quality of d league therefore premership is definitely not d best. |
Kai van der sar is definitely better. Cech was outstandin before d head injury but became average since then. Also chelse has a very good defence so he isn't as exposed to d dangers others face, making him look spectacular. Van der sar has saved more penalties and initiated more attacks for his team than cech. He has also had more point blank saves than cech. Wen VDS has d ball, he as acts like a sweeper tryin to release d best positioned teammate, but cech usual give it to terry playing safe. Also VDS is very confortable wit d ball at his feet and doesn't rush clearances even under pressure. Bottomline he's not jus a keeper but aslo and outfield player wen d need arises. |
This is d most sensational story of d year. It came out of d blue. Well that's one of d consequences of success very early. Well he has paid his dues and I can understand d need to try out new challenges out there, afterall that's d measure of a real man. Unlike arsenal fans that beef their players that leave as if d club is a cult, I think united fans appreciate him and will miss him cos his passion and effort cud never be questioned. |
Yes oruka should be on d list therefore I'l be updatin the list as follows 1:African queen-2face 2:jaga jaga-eedris 3:olufunmi-style plus 4:yahooze-olu maintain 5:gong aso-9ice 6:oruka-sunny nneji 7:kolomental-faze 8:street credibility-9ice and 2face 9:free madness-free madness Meanwhile abdulraz has raised an interestin arguement that d'banj's why me is bigger than kolomental. Somehow I disagree but if I get enuff posts to second to it then I'l make d change or make it the final addition |
I Came up wit d biggest 10 tracks in d last 10yrs but fell short so I need u to fill it up- 1:African queen-2face 2:jaga jaga-eedris 3:olufunmi-style plus 4:yahooze-olu maintain 5:gong aso-9ice 6:kolomental-faze 7:street credibility-9ice and 2face 8:free madness-free madness This is where u guys come in. I need 2 more tracks to complete this list. U can also adjust the positions with good enuff arguments. |
Ever since hi tv lost their premiership rights, they frankly became useless but their possesion of champions league rights now make them irritants to football lovers cos I can't subscribe to them and still maintain dstv. And d timing of matches makes it really inconvinient for an introvert working class person to watch matches especially since its during d week. I have resolved to ignore d group stages and stay out late for d knock out phase. Doe anybody feel my pain? |
it has now been established that no naija artist can ever match d expectations of d public for a follow up album to a successful debut OR match d expections of a highly anticipated debut. Its like once u have lost d element of surprise then u r doomed regardless of d quality of d album. Its almost as if once ur name is out there, d only thing d public craves is ur failure. Take 9ice for example, tradition for me is just as good as his debut. And can match it track for track, but since he was already a naija superstar, d public were just not interested full stop. Psquare also suffered from this alarming trend. Agreed danger was not a classic afterall how many classics are out there but track for track d album is worth listenin to by their style. Even till today after d unanimous failure given to the album, its tracks still litter d airwaves and club scenes. Bottomline d album was ok. Sauce kid was also a victim of this trend. Infact his was a case of damned no matter wat he did. To me his last album was ok. Sauce to me is a bling bling rapper wit sprinkles of so called gangsterism akin to 50 cent so wat he dropped was exactly wat I expected. But heavy expectation doomed him. He had a few commercial tracks to sell d album but stayed true to his elements on tracks like distribution and around here. He fell into a trap set by mi which was finding a successful middle ground. Jesse jagz has also been a victim of this trend. Walahi if jack of all trades was an unknown artist's debut, he wud have been very successfull and probably named the naija kanye west. But as usual unrealistic expectations doomed d album plus I also blame choc city for marketing him as d next best rapper when his prior singles had plenty of singing. Persnally I loved his album cos of d beats and cos its so easy to listen to. I hear mi want to quit music, he better does so cos after his sucess, there is nothing he can do wit his follow up album to match! Naeto c should also be carefull. Only mode 9 and maybe dbanj seem to be immune to this trend. |
@ tosinaded Thank u my brother. U can't take sales out of d equation. D fact it was hardcore wit lots of wordplay is still not enough. Take nas' illmatic for instance, not only was it street and inspiring,I also sold! And its that combination along wit acceptability that makes it a classic. Cannibus for example won't hav any of his album labelled classic jus cos its loaded wit bars and metaphors. I get d impression the sole criteria modey fans use is d hardcore nature. Take note that biggie's life after death and pac's all eyez on me we highly commercial. Both were even double cd and still considered classics. |
Now bebe has joined this growin list. How can u pay 7mill for a player u haven't seen play? I was truely amazed. Now d boy didn't even make a reserve team game usually played by misfits and upcomers.d player also didn't make his champions league team even though he didn't exceed his limits! Other flops include- HARGREEVES(even though its injuries, iss still a flop), BERBATOV(going into the 3rd season and still struggling to prove himself), NANI(lacks consistency to be classified a hit especially for a player in his 3rd year) FORLAN(exploded after he left united), ANDERSON(a one season wonder), KLEBERSON( who can ever forget this spectacular failure. No wonder fergie hates world cups cos that's where d player scammed him from), VERON(was jus a tourist as far as am comcerned), DJEMBA DJEMBA( jus a desperate attempt to have an african in his team), MANUCHO( another african misadventure) TAIBI(can't stop laughing when I think of this guy). |
Gender pls? |
As far as am concerned, talent is just one side of d coin, impact is d other side. That's y rugged, mode, mi stand out cos they had both at a point in time. Its only in naija that new school rappers go after previous generation rappers and frankly its insane. Common is a better rapper than rakim now but knows that rakim doin wat he did @ that time puts him on a higher pedestal forever. Same applies for Drake and fresh prince.Frankly rugged re-defined naija rap and made it a seriuos art that cud be place alongside mainstream naija music. U might argue if he didnrt do it someone else. Might have but as it stands, he was in d right place at d rightb time so he takes d accolades. |
@ toba Are u sayin if a religiuosly powerful man like adegboye or economically powerful man like dangote attends a weddin, he'l start organising for drnks? Ur anology doest make sense. Think about it. |
As for baha men, its poosible they were household names in d carribean b4 that track which If I remember properly was a hollywood movie soundtrack which now blew up d track. |
Bigiano! Other nominees pls |
This is for artists that actually had a cofirmed hit but drowned under the weight of expectation afterwards.take note only ONE confirmed hit qualifies the artist. For me its btw bigiano. Kelly handsome almost made it |
Africa should have 2 leagues in which the top two on each league qualifies. 5 teams is frankly too much. it wud have been much worse if serbia were more composed now Ghana is in on a weak side of the draw feelin like top doggs. by the way is africa a newly created continent y all d petting? DAYOKANU's points are hard to swallow but are true. Note that Asia dosent claim to be loaded with talent the way africa does and still manage to pull their weight |
for me 5- podolski ( germany vs england)~ thats wat u call the perfect team goal, a succession of 7 passes left english players dizzy b4 podolski finished with aplom 4-honda (japan vs denmark)~ even cristiano wud commend this effort. it was the perfect free kick. 3-villa (spain vs honduras)~ a combination of close control dribbling and perfect placement 2-Gyan (ghana vs usa)~ wat a volley! under pressure manged to chest a send d bullet thro d american net 1-Maicon ( brazil vs north korea)~ believe me as long as he is brazilian, he knew wat he was doing. |
i kinda agree with d poster on this one. I'm not ghanian full stop and if they win d cup, there'l be no pit stop in abuja, in fact we might as well pack out of west africa for them. and pls dont play the race card cos other countries like us, france, honduras, germany, brazil, chile, swiss, all have players with african origin so y not support them. argentina will neva support brazil in a game against european opposition. i think its inferiority admission to say one country represents d whole continent esp when we cant stand each other. its also a desperate attempt at relevance. its okay to congratulate them but its thier victory not mine |
nonesense, half of d american team has african roots so wat. Ghana is going home! |
the reason y i support usa is d same reason argentina wud rather have somebody else outside south america take d cup rather than have brazil bring it home. afterall I'm nigerian NOT ghanian and even if they win d cup, believe me they wont make a pitstop in abuja en route to accra. |
Gosh someone just reminded me of blade trinity. that movie was a joke. it has 2 b d worst. |
sumtimes when u see a really good movie u wish it stops there but they go ahead and make a sequel that messes up d whole franchise. For me it has to be universal soldier 2. i still wonder y van damme got himself involved with that trash. wats ur pick? |
on a lighter mode lets discus album covers. some are cool, some silly some artistic some creatie and others wack. my fav has 2 b MI's talk about it. the way the I in his name served as a door which he came out of really creative and artistic. it was like sayin enter MI. kinda like and introductin. that was artistc. P square's game over was really cool too. my worst has to be DJ zeez. wat was he thinkin? 9ice tradition concept was well tot out but kinda too cumbersme for an album cover. Kel's album cover was tight too. i like the photo angle and d whole wall street concept P square's danger album cover showed they were runnin outta ideas Eldee's big boy was too predictable |
just left his album signing party. he performed a bloody track as his intro which was not in the album. i feel cheated. d guy is good o! |
my post is in response to sevo |
i've got and i'm in abuja, but i come to kd at least once a month. 08034045527 |
okay back to jagz, apparently i,ve got plenty of wax in ma ear cos am really feeling the album. infact i had to get get another one when i lost d first one i got. his beats were rich and the tracks classy. anybody who doesnt know the importance of good beats should go listen to acapella then ask nas y jay z left him behind after d start he had. Agreed it was commercial due to reasons eldee mentioned but i dont understand y guys wud be xpectin a hard core album from an artist who sang in his initial singles-sugarcane baby, pump it up, wetin dey. he is jus carvin out a niche for himself instead of tryin to slot into one being created for him. he is also trying to ensure longevity in d game jus as eldee the don is successfully doing. u must also realise that the naija music scene isnt evolved enough to sustain so called hard core artists and thats y even mode nine had to evolve slightly and OD as well. wat we got was kanye west not the cannibus some guys were expectin. as far as am concerned wat we got was the work of a confident artist who went into his studio to have fun cos he belives he had nothing to prove. in so doing he has carefully evaded bein dragged into the unendin arguement about whose naijas best rapper is. you guys should loosen up and have a little fun and in quoting joker from dark knight, y u all so seerriiooouuussss!!!!! and by the way Ice prince' verse on track one was mmaaadddd! |
