in the U.S that we like to admire, schools have regular job fairs where so many companies come to recruit interns and other staff, but some people here think Nysc is the only way. what kind of mentality is that? why should an Engineer be teaching in a village for 20k per month in 2013, yet we wonder why we are behind. |
All you guys saying it shouldnt be scrapped are just funny. how can you support modern day slavery? why cant the likes of shell, mobill.... recruit straight from College? Cant believe anyone would support Nysc scheme. |
tess22: Dear friends this is what many Nigerians face daily: insensitive and wicked drivers of trailers and tankers who do not value life. Was it not just yesterday that 11 people including children were burnt beyond recognition in Ibadan? Now this, and there are many more cases we don't get to hear about. We can tell the FRSC that it is time for them to curb this menace since they are conveniently unaware of the recklessness of these drivers and their poorly maintained vehicles. Will you join me in signing an online petition calling for the daytime ban of these vehicles or will you continue to grumble or 'leave it to God'? Remember it could be anyone in this situation tomorrow, please click on the links below to demand safer roads.Though I applaud this initiative and pray more like these would spring up, I have to ask if the day time ban of these vehicles in necessary. I have seen developed countries, that seem to have gotten things right, allow trailers to move in the daytime. Its just that they are confined to certain lanes, and those rules are enforced 24/7, 365. |
Fantastic piece! Threads like these should make front page from time to time, to jog our memories when we we become numb to the suffering around us. Just think, that little boy or girl selling you gala by 1:00p.m during traffic gridlocks should be in school, then a police van would drive by like nothing happened. We can still protest in a violent-free manner to demand for accountability. For instance, all the residents of Festac Town deciding to organize a peaceful protest, taking to the streets untill they are giving a vote of confidence that their roads will be repaired, including the schedule and budget. They would then follow up diligently on the governments progress and start another protest should the government default on its plan. The protest on Electricity alone is long overdue. There is no reasonable explanation to justify why we have spent and spent from then till now, and still hover at 4000MW, when its not like we are asking them to invent electricity. We just need to be organized. We are already well versed in "ORAL" revolution, every tom dick and.. always has something to input in regards to the state of Nigeria. We are already helping our Country out when we speak to one another and analyse the problems that befall us, which is really a good thing. What we need now is training in "ACTION" revolution. I maintain that is can be peaceful, we just need to be Organized. Why are governors buying Private Jets? Oh my Country! Do we realize that one private jet can pave so many inner roads in our neighborhoods, and I'm not talking about annoying interlocking stones, I'm talking about international standard for crying out loud, with reflector lanes (that glow at night to help users spot lanes), clear lane markings, high pedestrian pathways, new law enforcement vehicles to ply those neighborhoods, and so much more. Its one thing if Nigeria is broke, but how can a human being, stress on human being (their humanity is questionable) buy a Jet, when the check boxes on the check list of things to be accomplished in their state are still barren? portable water - unchecked, all roads paved - unchecked, database for citizens - unchecked, internationally accredited universities - unchecked... but oh, I think I will buy a private Jet. Please if you have a well organized agenda that is pressing, based on evidence, involving a peaceful protest to invoke change, you can count me in. |
noob-saibot:Na Mein! Weed smokers would have their eyes low, if anything. Just saying. |
Agent 007.5, I salute you. People saying he didn't do much, should know that to summon courage in times of fear is commendable on its own. What if the assailants attacks had connected, it would have been a different story now. |
edoyad: Personally, I think even those suya and local food vendors can be captured in the master plan. A food center/market of sort can be created, so tourists can have a taste of local delicacies. But it would have to be well planned with high standards for hygiene and what not set from the get go.Really good idea, and as "alj harem" mentioned it would be nice if they were featured in restaurants. Just imagine being on a British Airways flight to Nigeria, and reading a feature on Eko Atlantic in their High Life Magazine as a great tourist spot. The magazine also highlighting Nigerian delicacies and the restaurants that provide them, that would really be sweet. I really can't fault this project at all. |
We need to also make Nigeria a Top Tourist Destination in Africa. I was in awe when I read how much Dubai makes just from tourism alone. They first found oil, used it wisely, then now don't need it that much no more. We can do the same, not only with tourism obviously. |
Nice development, its cool seeing the model pictures of the project being actualized so quickly. One thing though, I don't want to sound like an inconsiderate fellow, but I hope land usage laws will be enforced. The model pictures are one thing, what is on ground needs to be comparable to a certain extent. That means no mallam at every corner, no suya guy franchising, no hawkers taking advantage of traffic gridlocks, no loitering, and much more. I hope to see continued development on this project, it looks very exciting. |
KINGwax: I dnt knw who old u there are no phone tracking system with our militaryWe are not insinuating that in Nigeria there is no phone tracking system, rather, our gripe is with the fact that instead of employing this intelligence gathering system in their arsenal in the fight against terrorist, they chose to shut down comm systems altogether. |
Okija_juju: That one na strictly for packaging purposes...lol, cant stop laughing. |
Why is it that in designer restaurants the food is always smaller portioned that at non-designer restaurants? You go to a non-designer restaurant, you get a big plate of rice and chicken, with salad, and bread rolls. You go to a designer restaurant, you get two leafs, one spoon of rice in between, a pretty sliced tomato, and some "special" sauce. |
Nice write up. I was also wondering why the military felt the need to cancel telecomm services in the SOE states. I thought if anything, they would be hoping to employ phone tracking systems in the hopes that one of the miscreants would use a cell phone, hence they would be able to gather more useful intelligence. I am sure Terrorists do not even want to communicate via cell phones, except out of necessity to convey coded information regarding their agenda, which is what anti-terrorist intelligence agencies should be hoping to intercept. SIM registration is a good step forward in establishing a database for Nigerians, it is needed so bad, its not even funny. As you mentioned though, this data could be exploited by some, and the data given by some can even be forged. However I feel the cool thing about the SIM Registration database is that your photograph is also captured in the process. So even though a person might attempt to defraud the system by using a fake name, once that persons fingerprint is traced, his/her picture would at least be present, making the owner of the fingerprints easily identifiable. All in all, it is a very good move, but as you mentioned, we need to take it a step further to ensure privacy and security of the database containing such information. |
How could they have operated for that long undeterred? What happened to the alarm systems in the operations control rooms. A breach in the pipeline should have at least caused a LOW PRESSURE alert using whatever pressure monitoring system (i.e pressure transmitters, and flow transmitters) downstream of the affected area. Alerts on expensive infrastructure like these should be taken seriously, and as for the vandals, I just don't understand why some people will vandalize their own. The funds used to make repairs could have been used to better some individuals environments (in the absence of corruption) be it through beautification projects, sanitation, small road networks, drainages, and so much more. Bottom line is I won't put the weight of this on the vandals, but rather on the lag time between the criminal act, and the response. |
lorretta u: and forgive my outrage.where on earth do u get off to calling someone you don't know a hoe?cos that's what you're practically saying.Really digging lorretta |
Where is this infamous drone I keep hearing about when you need it the most. "Targets all in one location Sir, do we proceed?" Actually no need for violence, but we need better leaders. |
This is both cool and disturbing. Cool in the sense that the guy was able to train the snake that well, I mean how was he able to communicate to the snake that pulling down that lever would open the door? That in itself is amazing. On the other hand, who wants next-gen snakes around your house that will be opening your doors while you are asleep to strangle you. Forget the Swat Team, Forget the Cops, Forget the Dogs. SEND THE SNAKES IN! |
Can't they even have the run-way lights alone on an inverter, before the back up gen kicks in. I am not sure about the wattage of each runway light, but I am sure they can find a big enough inverter, or stack couple inverters to provide uninterrupted electricity for running those run-way lights. Why can't our people come up with solutions to these simple problems? |
This isn't funny at all, imagine a nightmare scenario that could occur, my goodness. Imagine if the Pilot had already descended to a point so close to the ground, and then boom, no light. I mean this stuff is serious, how can this happen at an airport. I can understand if it happens in my kitchen, but an airport? |
Demain_man: Does anybody know how much it cost to properly build a kilometer of road? I mean the real amount not the inflated plus 10% amount. Our Government just dem fuvk us big time!It seems to vary depending on the level of work that needs to be done on the roads. According the the world bank estimates, construction can cost up to $1,000,000 per kilometer. For further reference, visit http://www.worldbank.org/transport/roads/c&m_docs/kmcosts.pdf |
Katsumoto: Was it necessary to resort to ad hominem attacks? Why can't you let the merit of your position speak for itself without trying to gain an advantage? Clearly you didn't completely read my post but decided to attack me nonetheless.Much respect for this post Katsumoto-san. |
They need to install railroad crossing signs and barricades at every junction that the train passes, as shown below in the picture.

nedu2000: Noob saibotlol, apt description for darkness. |
I love this game! After a nail bitter in game 6 Miami pulled off a last minute upset to force overtime, and come out victorious. Who wins game 7? Will the King be crowned again, or is it time for a new reign? My money is on Mr. Fundamental A.K.A Tim Duncan, A.K.A Dunkin Donuts. |
chidindufrank: church will definitely add to your fears and problems. Pastor must find a way to link it to spiritual and bla bla bla whatever.Lol, that can't be a real church then, cause what's the point of having a church if not to council the weak amongst other things. In some of my most depressed states, I have been made strong my the creator. Modern day psychiatrist also may be able to help, but I just don't think one should outright rule out the church as a remedy for depression. |
onitshaigbo: Surfing is not nearly as dangerous as the others.True, but if there is a 0.0001% chance that there is a great white in there swimming with me, then I'd much rather just go play bball. |
nickz: WHY DONT YOU TRY FIRST#NO OFFENSEnon-taken, but by God's grace I have already said that I won't die while: Surfing Mountain climbing Crocodile hunting Lion hunting Bungie jumping Skydiving Cage diving to swim with sharks and so on... |

chidindufrank: Depression causes a lot of things. When you are depressed, please visit a doctor not church or any other place o. A doctor would always no the best way to psyche you up and fix your problemand why not a church? |
