Next there are anaesthetic complications and failure of equipment. Very few if any centres in Nigeria conduct clinical audits so we don't know how many patients are killed by iatrogenic causes. People,especially our leaders ,travel abroad to treat relatively simple conditions. If more money is put into our health and education sectors,we would have first class doctors and state of the art hospitals. That way,they would no longer have to go out of the country. No doctor,even in America is the custodian of all knowledge. They too, ocassionally mis-diagnose patients and people still die even abroad. The point though is that nobody should have to be flown abroad for appendicitis. We have capable doctors and hospitals that can deal with it. I am not saying that Dame should have been treated by a corper or house-officer.There are several consultant surgeons in the country.Nigerian doctors are not that bad.

I still say that at the end of the one year of housemanship,a serious doctor should be able to perform an appendectomy. I am assuming that the doctors looking after the dame are highly qualifed,experienced doctors. It is therefore a big shame that she had to go to Germany.

Appendicitis is a diagnosis that medical students make every day & house officers or at the worst,corpers can carry out appendectomies. Its a disgrace to the country that Patience had to be flown to Germany for this. GEJ,spend more money in the health and education sectors and less on the 5000 naira note.

By length of courtship,do you mean the time from the first date to the wedding or the time from first date to the proposal?I know some couples who get engaged and then remain that way for another 5-6 years before finally tying the knot. I also know a couple who got married exactly 4 months after they first met & they've been together for 15yrs now. I think sincerity from both parties involved is the most important factor in courtship.
