Abugab:The question you should be asking is: Who is doing the killing? Who came down to the east from 1967-70 to kill millions? Who is shooting unarmed protesters? The issue of Biafra has always been a peaceful agitation. It is Nigeria that brings violence into the issue of Biafra. A young has been killed by the very people who are paid to protect her. This is how Lugard created Nigeria, by killing people. This how 'one Nigeria' is maintained, by killing people. Funny thing is that we didn't kill each other when there was no Nigeria. But since Lugard created Nigeria millions have perished. So what is the point of Nigeria? May she rest in peace. She is a symbol of why Nigeria is nation on paper only |
The good thing about the current Biafran agitation is that it has finally shown all Nigerians that there is nothing like "One Nigeria". |
Saturn213: What is shortsighted about people who want their freedom and right to self determination? If anyone is shortsighted, it is Nigerians and their wish to hold on to the "British invented fraud" called Nigeria. We are talkng about ECOWAS and West Africa here not the EU or Europe. While it is true that ECOWAS members have a vote on who joins the group, nobody has unilateral veto powers. Article 9 of the ECOWAS charter which deals with decision making States: "Unless otherwise provided in this Treaty or in a Protocol decisions of the Authority shall be adopted, depending on the subject matter under consideration by unanimity, consensus or, by a two-thirds majority of the Member States" Biafra will need only two-thirds of the vote to join ECOWAS. Besides Nigeria, I don't think there will be any other country opposed to Biafra joining. Nigeria can opt out of ECOWAS a if not happy. You mentioned the Scottish referendum. Isn't it Ironic that Britain that created Nigeria gave one of its constituent parts a referendum last year, but when Biafrans ask for a referendum as a peaceful way to resolve the Biafran issue, you Nigerians will start shouting Treason! One Nigeria! War! Quite laughable if you ask me. You guys better start getting used to Biafra because it is here to stay |
DiademSh07:The Ghana must go incident happend in 1983 |
old2boy:The 'Ghana must go' crises happend in the 1980's. At that time, Nigeria had not yet signed the 1993 ECOWAS treaty on freedom of movement that was later ratified in 2007. |
DiademSh07:The 'Ghana must go' crises happend in the 1980's. At that time, Nigeria had not yet signed the 1993 ECOWAS treaty on freedom of movement that was later ratified in 2007. |
Omololu007:Then you pull out! ECOWAS is more important than Nigeria. |
Davidsylva:I have never benefited anything from Nigeria, if anything, Biafrans have lost much because they are part of Nigeria. The millions that died because of Nigeria in the war is enough loss. |
old2boy:If you look at the top of the Nigerian passport, you will see "ECOWAS" embossed on it. What this means is that any of the 15 member nation in the ECOWAS sub-region can travel, live and work in each other's countries, including Nigeria, without the need for visa or work permit. Biafra will apply to join ECOWAS and that application is likely to be accepted since Biafra is in West Africa and used to be a member under Nigeria. When Biafra joins ECOWAS, they will be free to travel to any part of Nigeria, live and work without any work permit unless Nigeria pulls out of ECOWAS. |
Davidsylva:why are you drinking panadol over the headache of Biafra? Because Lord Lugard told you we are all Nigerians? |
Davidsylva:Because Lugard taught us not to form countries in the jungle when he formed Nigeria |
Davidsylva:Even if your wife wants divorce and leave you because GEJ lost, you have no choice but to accept it Even if Biafrans want to leave Nigeria because GEJ lost, Nigeria has no choice in the matter |
mikolo80:But all of these things are happening between various tribes in Nigeria but you still have Nigeria! |
omoelesa:Instead of making brainless comments like that, try and answer the question |
Yksoul:So a person has to be born before or during Biafra to appreciate their inalianable right to self determination and freedom? I would encourage IPOB to protest in Lagos, after all, is it not Yorubas we are talking about here? Barks like a Lion but can bite for anything |
The confab report was thrown into Aso Rock dust bin the day Buhari was sworn in. |
All these people that talk about Arewa Republic Odua Republic Niger Delta Reublic All make me laugh. The only people with the backbone and guts to to secede from Nigeria are us Igbos as Biafra. We have already done this before so it is not novelty to us. The rest are jokers. Arewa and Odua Republic are things you rarely hear of, and the Niger-Delta Republic only ever comes up when some disgruntled minorities hear about Biafra. Biafra is the only serious agitation for a separate country out there. The rest are "lip service" Republics. |
franconian:There's an Igbo saying that goes "Only a person who always sits next to a king can tell you if the king has mouth odour or not". Only when you are in control of your sovereignty can you decide your fate. The biggest reason why Biafra will work is that Government will be closer to home. The way Nigeria is, political office holders are accountable to nobody. If we have Biafra comprising Igboland and much of what now know as South-South: 1] The states will be dissolved and replaced and provinces or local Government areas with full resouce control. Ijaw province will control their Oil, Porthacourt province will control their seaport, Ibibio will control their agriculture and oil. Nobody will cheat anybody. It will be much harder for an Ijaw man to steal from his fellow Ijaw man in Biafra than for the same Ijaw to steal in Bayelsa and run to Abuja for protection. When a country is smaller, it is harder to hide corruption than when it is bigger and there is more room to maneuver. 2] The laws will change to reflect who we are. Right now in Nigeria makes one man the "sole administrator" of all of Nigeria and this is bad. In Biafra, we are reverting to regional system were we will have a ceremonial president who will be commander in chief and a prime minister who will be head of Government. This way, it will much harder for any region to dominate another because the president and prime minister cannot come from the same region. 3] The capital of Biafra could be Porthacourt, Calabar, Enugu or even Yenagoa bringing Governance closer to the people and making our leaders more accessible unlike what obtains now in faraway Abuja. 4] Yoruba/Arewa dominance will be a thing of the past because 'divide and rule' will be over. As it stands now, nobody from the SS/SE area can ever be president again (unless another Yaradua dies) but in Biafra, at least one person from these two zones will be guaranteed either the presidential or Prime minister slot. 5] Biafra will finally give the people of the SE/SS area the opportunity to come up with a constitution that reflects their aspirations. As it stands now, the constitution is only benefiting a particular section of the country. 6] One of the biggest reason why Biafra will succeed is because we blessed with all we need, human or natural. It is going waste in Nigeria because we are having to serve the whims an caprices of of the Odua/Arewanistan movement. 7] we have bad leadership in Nigeria because the system allows it. The reason why it will be much harder to have bad leadership in Biafra is because Everbody can get to everybody, Biafra being a more smaller administrative area. Example , TA Orji was one of the worst Governors to come from Igbo land. The man looted Abia for 8 long years and did nothing. The reason why Orji will get away with is because of various factors such as the laws of the land, the fact that those who should make him accountable are not his people and maybe compromised and the fact that the Abuja is far away. In Biafra, the head of EFCC might have been an Ijaw man in Porthacourt who feels that it is Ijaw oil money Orji stole and this wil make him come after Orji with everything his got. The plain fact is that, Biafra will be smaller and more manageable than the unmanageable chaos called Nigeria |
Our gallant veterans! I'm proud that my father is one of them. Despite being outmanned, outgunned, despite suffering starvation and being ill equiped. The took on the combined might of the Nigerian army, the British, the Russians, Egypt and the Arab league. They fought hard for freedom. They may have lost in the end but there the mark of a man is one who can stand up and fight for his right to be free. My prayer to God is that as many of them as possible will be alive to witness the second coming of Biafra! Ise! Ise! Ise! Ka Chineke mezie okwu! |
I won't be surprised if they say this is the fault of IPOB |
PLANETMARS:The only Stupidity here is for Nigeria to come down to the east to to wage war and kill millions in the name of the fictitious creation of the White man called Nigeria. I'm proud that my people fought. Nobody can win every fight, that's understandable. But that was round 1. Round two maybe coming up soon and this time, Nigeria will have no oil money or Britain to come help. It will be interesting to see what miracle the Nigerian army will be able to do this time. |
He does make valid points but I think he has forgotten that Nigeria is not a civilised country. It is not a team of lawyers that will get us a referendum. It is protests and civil disobedience. It is putting pressure on Nigeria until it agrees to a referendum. |
PLANETMARS:Glaring? So they were glaring for 3 years? Ask anyone and they will tell you that the only reason Nigeria won the war was because of the British warships that blockaded Biafra and prevented Ojukwu from importing enough ammunition, food and essential supplies needed to keep the war going. Had Britain chose to remain neutral, Gowon would have been fighting until he ran out of money and called it quits. Ojukwu had all the advantage, he had the oil, he had the means. It was Britain that won the war for Nigeria. |
simpleseyi:Your so called Nigerian army that never wins any war without international support? Your so called Army that needed Britain, Russia,Egypt and the Arab league to make any headway against Biafrans after 3 years? The same Nigerian Army that could not defeat Niger-Delta militants and even gave them amnesty? The same Nigerian army that has been battling the Boko haram to no avail for 5 years and needs the help of Chad and Cameroon? The same Nigerian army that over 100 of them were slaughtered last week? Your Nigerian army is a joke. The only time you see their bravado is against unarmed civilians |
PLANETMARS:You never know if you can win a war until you fight it. Only a coward ever asks why fight a war you can't win? |
hummerwise:Instead of laughing, try to answer the quedtion. Give us an example of where a person was jailed for talking. |
shachris02:I have to try Biafra to know if it will be better. How do you know if you never try? Nigeria has been given a chance, it turned out to be a faliure, it's time to give Biafra a chance and see how that goes. Only a fool will keep trying something that has not worked in 55 years without trying something new. |
scholes0:Hate speech is not a crime. Give me one example where anyone was jailed in a democratic country for making hate speech. Kanu called for arms to fight Nigeria, he actually did this many times on Radio Biafra. What I'm trying to say is that a person cannot be jailed for calling for arms. No one is ever jailed for 'mere talking'. You would have to prove that he indeed did acquire weapons and he did so to cause trouble. Nobody can be jailed for just talking. |
