Basic123:
what fact are you talking about self.so many people have prooved so far on this thread that those fact are not factual and inappropriately applied.notable among them is the fact that CU is ranked above U.I in the 2017 webometric ranking.mtcheew
Let's forget about what OP posted..You and I know the pitiable state of our public universities. You even can tell the merciless horror you went through whilst going through our public university system.

Therefore I have few questions to ask you and I want you to answer truthfully.

1. Are our public universities standard?

2. Are our public universities functioning to the best of their ability?

3. Why do you think they say Nigerian grads are unemployable.?

4. With the way the public universities are presently if you have the means can you send your child to one?
EducationRe: 10 Reasons Why Federal Universities Are No Match To Covenant University (PROOFS) by zeongeon: 10:35am On Feb 23, 2017
The problem with us in Nigeria is that we hate the truth coupled with the fact that we are envious.. The OP stated his claims with fact but we rather remain in the dark.

The people bashing OP if they have the means tomorrow won't even send there kids to the public universities they themselves went to. it's a known truth that the educational system in Nigeria is screwed.

The public universities are only living in there past glory. They can't be compared to CU presently. Go to our public universities and then you will see why the elites either send the kids abroad or to CU.

You know the truth.

@Zeongeon,

Thanks for the counsel given to Jusome, however (my opinion though), I think it is important while trying to promote a certification body we do not subtly discredit others in the process. Doing so will negate the value called "fair play". Simply because some UK certification bodies are big doesnt necessary mean the medium or small bodies should be kicked aside or discouraged from. Attitudes like what you wrote up here is simply the reason why Nigeria with a population of 180million and more cannot boast of other remarkable safety bodies outside ISPON. Isn't that a shame. The UK and US we are trying to emulate have well over 50 gigantic certification bodies. Come on!

Because someone work for Apple doesnt mean Samsung, Nokia, Tecno, Infinix, Lenovo, LG should be avoided. This is the same attitude that is affecting virtually every sector in this Country and the reason we cant grow. No fair play and by this I mean, PDP feels its the only, APC thinks they are the all and all.

UK has over 3000 safety bodies just so you know...besides some of the bodies you mention above are nothing compared to some really big ones. Bodies such as RosPA, RSPHA, ISQEM, IIRSM, AoFAQ and the Almighty BSC (British Safety Council) are safety giants in UK, these are bodies that generate traffic worth over 120,000 annually with a combined generated revenue of well over 60million pounds.

In my humble opinion, i'd suggest that instead of making selections and discrediting UK training bodies, you should rather counsel him/her to ask if the body he (Jusome) talks about is registered and recognised.

P.S: Also, with due respect to ISPON, i think if we really need to promote the awareness of health and safety and its practice here in Nigeria, we need to promote other Nigeria certification bodies as well. Bodies such as NISCN (which is even the mother of ISPON), Nigeria Safety Council (NSC) are also recognised by law.

People are reading and thus deserve a balanced counsel.
Thank you very much Bearshare. However did you note in my write up calling out certifications and discrediting them? I try to advice people who want a career in hse by telling them what is obtainable and by telling them the truth... Putting aside emotions, sentiments, prefrences or political affiliation. Your just being emotional about something I know nothing of...

Are there other safety bodies and certifications YES they are in fact they are many BUT when starting out in HSE career or getting prepared what do organizations ask for? you will notice they ask for Nebosh, iosh, cieh, oshas, iso 9001:2015, iso 45001, iso 14001:2015 and presently Ispon. Does it mean other certifications and safety bodies don't know what they are doing? No, Does it mean other safety certifications are discredited? NO

Then as one decides to advance in his HSE career one can decide to do trainings on Hazid, hazop or become a specialist in an area of HSE, you can decide to do other trainings and obtain certifications from various bodies.

The thing with HSE is getting into the field first and how do you do that ? One way is by getting the necessary certifications and trainings required by organizations.

In life one just have to position him or herself for success.

Jusome:
thank you very much....i recently saw UK HSE going for 40k instalment plan inclusive Nigeria own is 45k with no instalment plan...what are the advantages of both...@ zeongeon also
Thank you very much Jusome for the question. What is the UK body giving then certification eg Nebosh, IOSH, CIEH, BSC? I will advice you go for the Nigerian one if you have the money and later on the UK HSE certicificate.

WHY = The reason is that I was at the last concluded national safety conference and AGM organized by ISPON and with the various bodies represented there from government bodies like NSCDC, NNPC, FRSC, NAF, NDA, NMC to private bodies one can say ISPON is picking pace and very very fast most private organizations and government organizations have safety professionals who are certified members of Ispon.. At least I met the safety manager for MTN he is certified by ISPON and a member, I also met one hausa lady who is a HSE representative for NNPC she has her Ispon certificate and is a member, I met the chairman Ispon abuja and he told me that most government bodies and construction companies and contractors in abuja are beginning to send there staffs to do safety trainings with ISPON Abuja. This is to say ISPON is beginning to achieve its goal of making it's certificate recognized within Nigeria and in most organization.
Gradually organizations are beginning to catch the safety virus.

Secondly in the conference we got a memorandum of understanding from Board of Certified Safety Professionals America (BCSP) becoming affiliated with ISPON and recognizing ISPON as a standard Safety Institute..with some ISPON certifications you will be exempted from writing some BCSP exams and with some BSCP certifications some ISPON exams will be skipped.

Thirdly, if you have the money pay for that ISPON and get your safety certificate at once if you really need a safety certificate or are serious about Ur safety career. Instalmental payments can keep your certificate with a training institute for months if not years...you know how it is before you know your using money for other rising issues while your certificate is pending.

However, the UK safety certificate is good your exposed to international best safety practices and standards but know the UK safety body issuing the certifcate don't go jumping on any safety certificate because its UK.. When you see safety jobs the UK certificates I see they ask for are mostly Nebosh, Iosh and cieh. If your looking at working outside Nigeria very soon and I mean in some months then do renowned UK safety certifications.

If you don't have the money to pay all at once for your Ispon then u can do your UK cert which suits your financial capability BUT if you have the money you should go for ISPON when you hit more money then you can do any of the UK renowned safety certification....

Summary, with just ISPON, good networking, connections and God almighty by your side your good to go as a safety professional in Nigeria BUT if your opportune to travel or going outside Nigeria then fortify yourself with Nebosh, OSHA, IOsH, CIEH and God almighty

Hope my advice has done justice to your question.

hello house i love this forum pls i need to be directed and adviced, am a graduate of physics with 10years experience in Fire Fighting, i want to explore in safety proffession, will HSE with NISP be a good start because all safety officer job all i see must be certify so whch level HSE will i do... NEBOSH is.in my heart but i want to start somewhere
Your already in the line of HSE since you have been into fire fighting. I guess its career development you want now that's why you opting to do certifications.

I will advice you start with ISPON which use to be NISP because ISPON has been signed into law and in time to come you will be having Nigerian organization asking for ISPON certificates as a requirement and also you may not be able to practice or work as a HSE professional without getting certified by ISPON. ISPON is a good place to start from.

Since you have got fire fighting experience and if your willing to continue in the fire safety line then you can go for Nebosh certificate in fire safety. If you don't want to streamline your self to just fire safety then you can go for Nebosh IGC, IOSH or OSHA courses, IMS certs.

Have in mind that HSE is very broad and requires continuous professional development if you really want to enjoy yourself.

I will advice you take your first step by doing ISPON courses then whilst doing ISPON you can research and ask questions to help with your next line of action.

Hope my advise has done justice to your questions.

All the best.

Fitness to me is a very small small aspect and i tend to laugh at fitness instructors who aren't movers...Fitness instructors who can't split, touch there toes or even do a basic back bend.....

I haven't been drilling flexibility of recent and you have motivated me to resume...I need to borrow those flexible hip and spine of yours.

I am also working on some new movement patterns and capoeira floerioes....The sad part is that I don't have anyone around to snap me doing some movement patterns, poses and holds.

Warris Did nahhh...Cassie that split and back bend...and Ur beginning to develop arm and shoulder strength.

Try take the pillow of the mat so feel the joy of a head stand. I think you should take Ur head a little bit forward...a head stand is easier when a triangle is formed with Ur head and arms...your head as the apex and Ur arms as the base.

keep up the wonderful work...when I have d time I will also put up my pictures...

Thanks smiley.. I've been trying to learn that backhand spring but it's proving difficult, what should I do?
build arm strength by doing static pushup holds and doing pushups on Ur knees. please you won't develop muscles as you don't have testosterone. so don't be scared of having muscles from pushups holds and pushups highest that will happen u firm up Ur hands no flabs.

Then start by achieving a back walk over that is go into a bridge and then try to throw your legs over..you can start by using the wall to kick Ur legs over..do a bridge with Ur legs facing a wall and then step on the wall kicking over Ur head. U need arm strength to be able to hold the transition into the handstand as you kick over Ur head.

Note u have a flexible back and the kicking over and turning will come easy your only challenge for the back walk over may be fear and arm strength.

Hope this helps..Good luck on Ur training.

feel free to ask me questions if u get stuck

CassieV!!! what can I say...u have a flexible spine and Ur mobility is good wow that's some contortionist routine....Very good I am impressed....That move opens up doors to lots of other moves and poses...example you will be able to do Ur back hand spring with ease all you need is the shoulder strength, core strength and the technique, moves requiring flexible back will come easy to you....I am impressed...U rock girl!!!

Good day house. I just stumbled on this thread; kudos to everyone and I'm glad to be here. I am a certified Lead Auditor of ISO 14001 and currently awaiting my result of OHSAS 18001. Please do we have consultants in the house, with whom I can tag along and gain practical auditing experience (I'm not looking to be paid, your time, mentorship and the experience I'll get are far more than their weight in gold), particularly on Saturdays? I'd appreciate all the experience I can get. Please quote, PM or any other form of contact is highly appreciated.
Thank you so much.
When did you do your OSHAS 18001? you shouldn't have done it because by next year OSHAS 18001 will be phased out and would be replaced by ISO 45001. I don't mean to be negative but you should have done your research before taking the OSHAs 18001.

All the best any ways.

And I have a friend who is a very good auditor, I am not promising a placement from him but I can guarantee that you will learn a lot from him. if your interested PM me your name and phone number and I will connect you to him.

Remain blessed.

Don't wash your dirty linen outside have u not heard of that before.? Anybody can live any where with one reason or the others , as rich as America and Europe are they not in Nigeria.? The only thing that Bleep all your words up is that "youre not proud of nigeria" u should have then shot up. We are talking of patriotism here as well...
I am happy the truth messed up all i said, how many Nigerian are actually proud of the country? ...I am speaking as a result of what I see happening around me....I thank God I can afford some good things and that doesn't make me happy or proud of Nigeria because many of my Nigerian brothers and sisters are suffering in there own country....I don't even want to begin to talk about the hell I see my people (Nigerians) go through everyday...why? why? why?...I feel the PAIN we are going through I myself inclusive and that's why I am not proud of the state of things in the country called Nigeria.

If your proud of Nigeria why aren't you living here in Nigeria...Most countries that have proud citizens don't have there citizens bailing out of there country every now and then...Is it not hypocritical to say your proud of Nigeria while your attitude says a different thing.

That word " Don't wash your dirty linen outside" is nothing but self deception even if I don't wash it, the world is washing our linen outside for us...For a white man to tell me that your country is really in a pitiful state...you know what that means...what your trying to hide cant be hidden again.

If its patriotism your talking about then you should bow your head in shame.. If your that patriotic why don't you want to get deported from Kenya? if your that patriotic why not be like me who is in Nigeria ? if your that patriotic why not stay permanently in Nigeria?.... The mindset like urs is what is killing the country your patriotic about.

Don't quote me again unless the suffering of the people of Nigeria will catch up with you where ever you are.

I am "Nigerian" and not a proud one. I don't see anything wrong with what the Kenyan brothers are saying on here in fact the Kenyan brothers should continue to tell us the bitter truth...Yes...Nigeria is a write off and its spilling on its citizens.

Kenyans are lazy? so what....does it stop them from getting the necessary amenities, infrastructure, economic and educational policies we can't boast of as a country called Nigeria (shit hole). If they deport Nigerians nothing wrong, its there country and they worked and paid to get it to where it is after all didn't we send Ghanaians packing.

Kenyan brothers please continue to tell us the bitter truth...continue...so that we will come to know that a country isn't built on nepotism, tribalism, religious bigotry, selfishness, wickedness and e-bashing.

For Kenyans and other African countries to boast of things like electricity, railway, roads, good education, internet, water etc...and we have nothing to say than there men are lazy and the women like Nigerian men just goes to show how much of a sewage tank the Nigeria is turning into.

Nigerian youths go on...continue to support, bash and kill one another for politicians that has given other countries the right to mock and spit on your face.

In the 70s and 80s African countries looked up to Nigeria but now they look down at us and use us as a foot mat...that's why every little thing around the world they use Nigerians as scape goats.

Nigeria if you can't manage yourself as a country restructure or disintegrate.

CrimeIndonesia Approves Of Death Penalty And Chemical Castration For RAPIST by zeongeon(op): 11:13pm On Oct 18, 2016
I think with the increase in the rate of rape especially when it comes to children I think Nigeria too should approve of stiff penalties for rapist.

Indonesia has toughened its punishments for child rapists to include the death penalty and chemical castration. It follows outrage over several recent violent crimes, including the gang-rape and murder of a 14-year-old girl .

President Joko Widodo said the regulation was "intended to overcome the crisis caused by sexual violence against children".

Previously, the maximum sentence for rape, of either an adult or a child, was 14 years in jail.People jailed for sexual offences against children may also now be made to wear electronic monitoring devices after their release.Analysis: Rebecca Henschke, BBC News, Indonesian service editor

The gang rape of 14-year-old Yuyun on her way home from school and the rape and brutal murder of a 18-year-old factory worker this month have sparked national outrage.

In polls and on social media there is widespread support for tougher punishments including castration and the death penalty for perpetrators, particularly when children are the victims. But a number of leading rights activists have voiced their dissent.

Mariana Aminudi from the National Commission on Violence Against Women said on Twitter: "The castration law is evidence that the government does not view sexual assaults as act of violence but merely as a matter of controlling sexual urges." While Sandra Moniaga from the National Commission on Human Rights wrote: "Violence will not be stopped by violent punishments."

Introduced by emergency presidential decree, the new rules are in effect immediately but could be overturned by parliament at a later date.

"An extraordinary crime deserves an exceptional response", Mr Widodo said.
