Car TalkRe: He Hit My Car & Claim He's A Stundent by ZIMDRILL(m): 8:49pm On Sep 12, 2013
udemzy_udex: its illegal to drive a car without an insurance cover,at least a third party insurance will do.
thats general knowlegde in 1st world countries but in africa is last thing to think off

i here that back in home zimbabwe the police are now very stricty on it, the law has been always there but the police, never policed it
but now there ever busy cracking uninsured cars, through the toll gates and road blocks they created, all the necesary paper have a part that is supposed to displayed on the left corner of the window screen
Car TalkRe: He Hit My Car & Claim He's A Stundent by ZIMDRILL(m): 8:37pm On Sep 12, 2013
Siena: Urrrm, you can't actually seize a car that ran into yours, at least not in the UK. And if you sold a car to recoup your costs (assuming the other driver wasn't insured) you'll be liable for theft. There's a lot involved in seizing, and disposing of a car, lots of legal process to go through.

Unless it's Nigeria, whereby anything goes...
UK is out the picture in that scenario

that scenario is a common one in african countries becoz the police wont even ask for insurance most likely they will just ask for the drivers licence, the rest the two drivers have to sort out themselves
Car TalkRe: He Hit My Car & Claim He's A Stundent by ZIMDRILL(m): 8:32pm On Sep 12, 2013
kc007: @ ZIM DRILL, some of us here see the insurance u're talking about as something meant for peoople @ upper class. Economy hasn't been friendly either. You know how u sweat it out b/4 raising fund to acquire some these used cars, making the paper insurance licensing office give us the priority for sake of not to be disturbed by the police.
i get what you mean but it is poor insurance education to people, becoz whether upper class on not if someone crashes in your car and them being at faulty you would want car fixed by them right

most peope are ignorant or not educated on that basic simple of paying for repairs for the car you have damaged, they wont be chasing of each other etc, the insurance companies will deal with each other

so even yourself being poor you still want someone to pay for damages to your car whether the other part think that your car is a tin, still s/he has to pay damage to your tin

Car TalkRe: He Hit My Car & Claim He's A Stundent by ZIMDRILL(m): 8:16am On Sep 12, 2013
kc007: This dude hit my audi a4 that's not up to 2months old as he approached a traffic where i was, with infinity jeep QX45 claiming the vehicle has faulty braky, no scratch b/4 the incident. The bumper was pushed 4ward by maybe an inch, the boot was forced open, condeming the panel where the lock is & denting the boot cover. He claimed he's a student, that the vehicle belongs to his neighbour & there's no kobo in his pocket, meaning i'll bear the cost in addition of pains of seeing my car damaged. At 1st I seized his BB but gave it to him after he wanted to tell me story of his life. Please if u're in my shoes, how would u feel & what would u've done?
thats the reason here in the 1st world you require insurance for your car to be on the road or you the driver be insured to drive whatever car you want to drive

if it was me i wouldnt car that he is a stdent i was going to seize the car he was driving then it would be him and the owner of the car to sort it out

while i wait for monies for repairs, of not will sell the car to foot my bill

lonelydora: I enjoy auto trans within town, and manual trans when travelling. I'm a registered member of Honda Forum on the internet, so I ask questions there before going to my mechanic. Infact, my mechanic baffles when I tell him whAt and whAt to change for me.
thats the approach most here do it the other way round ask niaraland car talk section

instead of googling, which gives you a bigger questioning/researching base than few thousand here

do you have the figures from the manufacture the average MPG?

you should use those figures and poor MPG can be to one's driving, overloading (which is daily bread in most african countries)poor maintenance

Even poor quality fuel give very poor MPGs

ba_aliyah: For me it is choice, if you like manual trans stick to it,I drive the two perfectly and will never look down on a manual car. I never had problems with auto tyranny. Car has many components, transmission is just one of them,if u take care of ur car u wont have serious headache. Imagine Ikenna driving an auto trans car he is not likely to have problem,so also, many people. Our auto technicians, fake parts and
wrong trans fluid are also factors. For me I enjoy auto
so the question is, are auto parts dealers selling sub standard items? and are people not learning fro other people's mistake eg one ATF is sub standard and motorist pass on the infor to one another until the manufacturer sees that people nolonger by the product
Car TalkRe: Nigerians With Automatics & The Problems by ZIMDRILL(op): 7:42pm On Sep 08, 2013
Ikenna351: @ ZIM DRILL,

I think you really don't get it. It's a mindset thing bro.

Nigeria is a country where a Nigerian will tell you "You are poor, thats why you couldn't afford auto trans car" or " You bought a manual trans car because you couldn't afford auto trans car". Yes, i get these a lot. Some have even asked me "If Peugeot had produced 505 V6 auto trans car, wouldn't you have gone for auto trans of the car instead of the manual trans i bought?" I would wonder in silence, " If 505 didn't get auto tranny, how come 404 got?"

I met someone the other day who bought a Peugeot 406 auto trans. While congratulating him, he told me the 406 is "American specc". I asked him who told him that, he said it was the car dealers that sold the car to him. I couldn't help but wonder if there is Canada and USA in Europe i do not know of. Things we do to sell our cars!

Some will tell you they prefer American spec cars since they come with airbags everywhere in the car, while Euro spec cars come with only 2 or 3 airbags. Yet, the death on our highways have not reduced.

When people are ready to replace their auto trans severally before they get rid their cars, what can you do? When people are scared to travel with their auto trans cars, simply because of fear the trans may decide to give up while into the journey.

Thank God that the brand of car i like sells in Europe, meaning, i will always get the manual version of any of their products am interested in.

But then, there is nothing wrong with auto transmission. But one should be ready to live with it's annoyances or deal with it.

Ikenna.
so tell me what is the ratio auto to manual on average
Car TalkNigerians With Automatics & The Problems by ZIMDRILL(op): 3:51pm On Sep 08, 2013
based on what i have observed here it seems like automatics are the most common type of transmission and on average poor trained or self taught mechanics are damaging these gearbox through trail and era.

Most cars seems like are comming from a america, which favours automatic transmission that the manual one, i know that some prefer america simply becoz there is no need to convert the dashboard and steering wheel but why not get from european countries that are right handed and have manual transmission

you hear the mechanics blaming the ECU for a none ECU issue, what do you expect when you get an automatics s/he has 2 ECUs to deal with and more sensors to deal with, have read phrase like "the ECU is powerfull or less powerfull"
"changing from single to double" "changing from 14 to 10 pin " "changing from ECU based to carburrtor" or changing from automatic to manual

a manual would be better to deal with for such poor trained and self taught
Car TalkRe: Camry Problem; Help! by ZIMDRILL(m): 2:22pm On Sep 08, 2013
tpacalipse: Actually, D has not been flashing on the dashboard. If u are referring to the ATF, I still checked it today and seemed alright, but if it is the gear oil in the axle, I checked last three months ago.
when was the oil last changed ?
Car TalkRe: Camry Problem; Help! by ZIMDRILL(m): 11:34am On Sep 08, 2013
tpacalipse: Guys I will be glad if I can find solution to this problem here.
The car is 1996 camry 2.2. Yesterday I was driving the car and it started shaking, also the rpm pulled down and almost stalling at braking. Now this morning, the car runs well in P, N, and it shakes and dies in D, but drives normally in R. When engaged D, it shakes violently and dies. When put in R, it runs well, no shaking and it moves. When put in N and P, it runs well too. I will like to have ideas before I take it to the mechs. Tanks in advance.
the D flashing on the dashboard ? also when did you check the gearbox oil level

Lexusgs: Automatic wiper module, trying to wipe the underneath of your car clean !!!!!!
NB : You should sell this idea to Toyota
they come one when he passes a pool of water not when few drops drop from the above

meaning there is a naked wire being made to complete a circuit, water being the conductor

ibrodex: i stay at ojuelegba.
i have a golf3 GTI with the following.
Brand: Volkswagen
Model: Golf GTI
Year: 1995
Engine: 2.0L
Engine code: ABF
Cylinder count: 4
Fuel type: Petrol
Motor management system: Digifant 3.2

the problem is that: it was driven carelessly for long hours. it later resulted to some problem. though currently with a mech, in which he said he has done his own part of the job that it is left for the auto electrician to fix other thing. he actually got someone to check it, the person detect a sensor problem. that the sensor will not make it start normally. that it will start and stop. they actually search for it but the ones they got did not work with it.
these are the little info i can give you for now.
you are not really telling us the problem with car you are allover the place

tell us what the car is doing ?

kakameks: What could be the cause of fluctuating headlights, slow wiper speed especially when the air condition is on. My battery can not stay for more than two days in the car without discharging to the point that it cannot start the car, i have been searching for what drains the battery to no avail, i have changed my alternator (tokunbo) yet the problem is still there. My battery is a 75AH battery sealed type, could the problem be from there? i am considering increasing the engine idle rev to about 1000rpm or slightly higher to compensate but am extremely reluctant in doing this.

Or will a little oil in the AC compressor help lub. it's function?

When am stuck in traffic at night and it is raining, headlight, wiper and AC needed, does this problem shows itself.
suggestions will really be appreciated.
why did you go for the alternator instead starting with battery its self, is the AC factory fitted ?

it seems like there is too much load

Lexusgs: @ ZIM DRILL - I have watched such videos many times over. My case in- point is that, whatever got cleaned by terraclean either the catalytic converter, blocked injectors or other stated reasons for getting the P0420 CODE. After my vehicles got cleaned, the codes no longer appeared on the ECU.
that system cleans carbon deposits
Car TalkRe: P0420 Code Fix, High Fuel Consumption To Be Fixed. by ZIMDRILL(m): 3:00pm On Sep 02, 2013
Lexusgs: PO420 FIX -
I had this codes come up on my Honda S2000 and Celica GT Gen 7. For months I had been reading through all possible solutions online and weighing the cost of having boot catalytic converters replaced.
I read about a carbon clean out system, and thought to gamble on one car first, then if it works carbon clean the other car.
The companies website is www.terraclean.co.uk
I can proudly state that both codes have now been erased from my vehicles ECU after having them terracleaned.
After vehicles were terracleaned, I took off battery, thus allowing ECU to reset itself. Reconnected battery terminal and both codes have been erased. And I have gained all the lost BHP from both vehicles and vehicles acceleration and pick up, I feel has reverted to when the vehicles were near enough new.

Car TalkRe: Automatic Gearbox Problems by ZIMDRILL(m): 12:25pm On Sep 02, 2013
Stylz69: Though not a honda but a similar thing happened to my toyota. Gave it to a mechanic to repair my brakes and he returned with a huge bill telling me he 'serviced' my gearbox; he drained the ATF and filled it with LUBCON instead of the toyota Type IV. Two weeks later my transmission began to slip and the gearbox finally packed up. I called the mechanic and he said it will cost 30k to repair; i gladly paid, still the gearbox died. I finally had to change the gearbox, however a few weeks later i began experiencing hard shifting from the gearbox. Mechanic said it was the gearbox being too powerful, another said it was the engine mounting...finally visited a garage and got the vehicle scanned. It threw up an error code relating to my shift solenoid. I quickly 'googled' it and found out there was a recall on toyota vehicles experiencing that fault and it was a 'brainbox' fault. However, the person who scanned it said that was academic and said the gearbox had to be stripped down and the solenoid changed. I paid for the scan and drove off to Apo, bought a new brainbox, put it in...PROBLEM SOLVED!!
LESSONS LEARNED
1. Don't give your car to quacks who will put destroy your transmission
2. A diagnostic scan is always a good step tp take especially if you have a check light warning
3. GOOGLE is your friend. Trust me, there is no fault a car will have that hasn't already been experienced by someone else. There is a lot to learn from online forums.
...... Finally sold the car and got a later model; however the driver i hired to bring it to Abuja decided the ATF was low and put in Mobil ATF 220. I nearly killed the Arrow!!! As soon as the vehicle arrived, i drained the transmission and put the recommended WS ATF. I learned my lesson and wasnt about to buy a new transmission
Mechanics and drivers are car killers!!
why did you agree to pay for something you didnt ask him to do ?

Ikenna351: Your BSI unit controls all the electronics, switches and all ECUs in that car, includinding the engine ECU. The BSI unit is the brain of that car. It's even more important than your engine ECU.

I hope no one has slammed that your rear left door so hard to cause this? 406 doors were not designed to be slammed. Doing so could even immobilized the car. Always tell your passengers before the close the doors. They are not so 504s that can take such harsh use. Even the slamming of 504 doors is what kills their door catchers.

The fault or the cause of the problem will be stored in your BSI. Scanning the car with PP2000 will show you the culprit or cause of the problem and how to rectify it. Am not sure universal scanners can scan the BSI unit.

Or, you can try another reset method. Disconnet the two battery terminals, following the procedure. Then join the two battery cable connectors together (please, not the the 2 battery terminals o!). Lock the 2 together for hours. You can join themselves together this night and leave it till tomorrow morning and disengage them when you wake up. When this is done, it will reset the engine ECU to default. I want to believe it could reset the BSI unit to default too. Remember, the 2 battery connectors must be touching each others off the battery. They should be touching each other, not on the battery please. Tie them together with something. In fact, bring out the battery from the engine bay while doing this to be on the safe side. You can leave the battery in the boot. Give us update in the morning.

Ikenna
i hate the BSI unit simple problems will need resetting

I just want to bring an obvious situation to our notice again.I was on a car website, browsing through for car deals till I came across a tokunbo toyota camry for sale,I was interested but I was shocked at the low price,so I called up the contact to correct his mistake and ask for the real price, but to my surprise, the seller said the prices posted was the correct price...I proceeded to ask him why the low price and he said he want to sell it off to bring in more cars..Suspecting a scam,I asked him for the VIN and he said he would send it,up till tomorrow I neva see VIN...

The car in question is a toyota camry 2001 model selling for 650k,seller even agreed 550k...

I want to knw if anyone in the house has purchased cars at auctions or from importers at outragouesly low prices....no yabis abeg
this how i do when checking car prices though i use the internet on sites like ebays autorader and gumtree , i check the car i want and see the average price based on specification am looking for, anything with the specification i want but with less price makes me question, why the price is so low next step it is either to contact seller or skip it
