Car TalkRe: How Can Someone Find The Owner Of A Car By The VIN Number? by ZIMDRILL(m): 11:43am On Jul 23, 2013
kingschild123: Please house how can someone find the owner of a car
by the VIN number?
yesm and no

it depends with country's system like here in UK your number plate links to the registered owner of the car but mainly the police have link to this data base.

so when the car is registered the number plate VIN,name and address of the owner, so the police use the number plate verify the rest of the details your car. if your the number plate doesnt match up with what they have in the data base then they physically check the VIN number to see if it was tampered with

so what they do is this they can follow you while the check with the data base and by the time they ask you to stop they have all the details and they just want to hear your side of story or they stop you then check the details while you wait

Update

Just to double check drained the rear diff and top up with gearbox oil took it for spin it slipped, parked it in gear reved it, prop shaft responded as normal but the wheels wouldnt move, for sure the diff is gone waited 10 mins for it to cool down then drive to the work shop . Striped it down and opened it, the differential gears are perfect, then opened the other housing, surprise the diff has clutch plate, my friend the chief mechanic says there are fine. myself couldnt tell am not after repairing but wanted to know how it is inside, phoned the local scrapyard they got one, they will pull it off the car and phone to pick it up
tomorrow the honda will be back on the road
Car TalkRe: Toyota Highlander Transmission Problem by ZIMDRILL(m): 11:33pm On Jul 15, 2013
malmo: I was told again that 13 pin auto gear for Toyota Highlander is very delicate to handle and that the best option for me now is 10 pin.looking for a technician who is familiar with this technicalities.
thats a lie

have you scanned the car ?

a module can only be changed if it has been scanned to be faulty, corrupt or fried, and it should be of the same pins
Car TalkRe: '98 Honda CRV Auto tranny issue by ZIMDRILL(op): 11:22pm On Jul 15, 2013
Ikenna351: Of course, i understood your explanation in the earlier post, which was why i ruled out your gearbox. What i didnt understand was why the differential would work only when the differential oil is cold, unlike mine that would work whether there is oil in it or not, except that without oil, friction will kill it very quickly. But no matter how bad oil is in mine, it will work, but will become noisy, which will make the bearings inside to die gradually, among other things. My point is that it will work as long as there is oil in it, whether its bad oil or not, whether the oil temp is cold or hot. Thats why am confused yours works differently.

Well, your explanation indicates that your differential works like auto gearbox: slippery when fake oil is used at hot temperature. Am i right?

Ikenna
Well the service manual says always use the honda dual pump oil, when i picked the car it drove very fine 15 miles away then me being a mechanic i changed oil to start my own service history but instead of going to the dealer(dealers here can be expensive for no reason, we call them STEALERS ) to get oil i choose ebay which i now suspect that the oil is fake

now am realising that this problem come after the oil change, as for LSD i got no clue since i have the service manual i will have a look on the notes

yes it seems to work like autobox

thats my rear diff in the photo

Car TalkRe: '98 Honda CRV Auto tranny issue by ZIMDRILL(op): 10:17pm On Jul 15, 2013
Ikenna351: Hmm! Are you saying the car rear differential work exactly like auto gearbox? Because i dont see how the differential oil temperature would determine when it would work and when not to, if its not so. Normally, rear differential are pure mechanicals, if am not mistaken. Most times, they fail by making grinding noise gradually till it seize and the wheels wont move an inch.

The test you carried out showed that your auto box was working when the car lost drive, since the propeller drive was still spinning, but wasnt driving the rear wheels, when in gear. Another simple test of rear differential, or a better one, would have been this: switch off the car leave it in park for auto box or in gear 1 for manul tranny, jack one of the rear wheels, making sure the 3 other wheels are on the ground, then turn the jacked rear wheel with your hand with some pressure. Whatever happens to that wheel will determine if the differential is intact or the culprit is elsewhere. If the jacked wheel rotate when you turn it, listen for an annoying sound from under that car, check if the propeller is spinning while you are turning the wheel. If its not turning, while the car is not on handbrake, the gear is on 1 or drive, then your differential is ok. But if the wheel turns but the propeller didnt spin, you should be hearing some grinding noise at the rear difference. Meaning the differential has failed. This method is safer for auto trans, so that you dont spoil your auto box while testing the differential with the engine running, gear in drive and handbrake on.

But like i said, i wonder why a rear differential will work with oil temperature, just like auto box does. Or is auto box differential different from the manual one? Or is the working of Honda differential different from that of Peugeot? This thing with auto tranny!

Ikenna.
every diff has oil, mine takes a litre of honda dual pump oil. remember the gears inside heat up due to the spinning oil helps to cool down and lubricate, on mine i changed that oil with one i bought on ebay, so roughly that oil is fake, it heats up and the diff start to slip thats my roughly conclusion for now

remember that when there is load on the prop shaft (load/torque meaning that the prop shaft is being spinned by the engine via gearbox ) that load or torque get transfered to the wheels and the car moves but if the handbrake is on the prop shaft shouldnt turn since the the wheel are locked by the handbrake

On mine the prop shaft is spinning meaning the torque is not being transfered to the rear two wheels so my problem is inside the the rear diff, since the prop shaft is being turned by the gearbox transfer, dont know if you can understand thats in simple terms my gearbox is transfering torque to the back wheel via prop shaft but once the oil in there heat up the prop shaft continue spining as normal but that torque is not being transfered to the rear two wheels

so either my oil is fake since it was being sold as honda dual pump diff oil or my diff is gone now am convinced that my gearbox is fine, it able to transfer torque via prop shaft but rear diff is not able to transfer to wheels

Car TalkRe: Benefits Of Using Coolants Versus Water In Car Radiators. by ZIMDRILL(m): 9:12pm On Jul 15, 2013
LeJeun3: Unfortunately, his mechanic could be right. When cars r designed for Temperate regions like Nigeria, certain things r taken into consideration. So a car wit a single cell radiator will do well in a place like russia or uk, however would experience difficulties in Nigeria. I've had a radiator change and it totally solved my overheating problem.
Note: like someone said above a 50/50 mixture would do just fine. (a can of coolant to a full radiator).
you know nothing same with your mechanic

every car can work anywhere is the world, remember nigeria is not even among the hottest countries http://americanlivewire.com/top-10-hottest-countries-in-the-world/in hottest countries you still find the same model of cars and make as in nigeria and there are even better than the poorly maintained nigerian one

the only thing you change to suit your region climate is engine oil, ratio of cooliant is the same everywhere in the world (why becoz it is all about the engine temperature inside the engine not the region climate also remember that whether in an alaskian winter the engine will still reach the operating temperature 80 -85 even when outside is -20 )

unfortunately most people in africa think the cooliant is not really important

Update

Well its hard to work on your own project when consumer cars are pouring in,hence i havent took full time to do my car but to day had a little time, phoned friend in SA and he said if the clutches were gone the gearbox wouldnt wait for temperature to raise, but would not drive whether cold or hot. Advised me to checking the oil cooling lines and the cooler and also the pump, so i disconneted the oild pipe to the cooler and blocked one of the oil line to see if the oil pump is bumping, good news it was, then i went for the oil cooler which is part of the radiator, used compressed are to blown it out nothing came out and the cooler was clear took the car for a spin.

It lost gears this time i heard a noise from the diff, partked the car handbrake on put the car in drive and checked underneath the car, well surprise the prop shaft was turning raved the car and it turn faster meaning that the engine load was not being transfered to the back wheels. Not sure of my finding went to a consumer's car same as mine put the car in drive and the prop shaft wasnt turning meaning the engine load is being transfered the the wheels and the handbrake is on and the prop shaft wont turn. On mine the prop shaft is turning

I changed the diff oil when i got the car, bought the oil was from ebay and it was original honda dual pump oil but hey i guess its not tomorrow i will phone my honda dealer if they have in and pick it up on my way to he workshop

i hope the oil hasnt damaged the diff will spent the night studying the diff repair manual

Ikenna and Sienna esp.
please anybody had experienced or know the solution for my case? the thing is, my toyota camry tiny light ceases drive after a mile or two distance drive, as in when the engine gets hot, it doesn't move in drive anymore, then when the engine gets cold it will drive again, i called my mechanic he said is filter.
please any one have idear?
am facing the same problem on honda cr v am going to take the gear box out

but i have eleminated all causes and left with opening it up

unfortaunately you didnt mention if you scanned the car or if there is any engine management light

but for you start with basic put fresh oil, also check your AFT cooling lines then, if your gearbox got a sump take it off and see there is a filter and clean it up

Ikenna351: How far with the transmission? Has the laziness gone?

Laziness? Yes, I have been a victim, or would i say, guilty of that too. Some weeks ago, i would say "I will replace my 406 V6 timing belt next Saturday". The Saturday would come, i would wake up, sigh and go back to sleep. "Make i rest and enjoy the weekend joo", I would say. Too lazy to lift a spanner, knowing what i will go through doing that belt replacement. One Public Holiday, I woke up, wanted to sigh but changed my mind. I jumped out of the bed and "Get behind me Satan!", i murmored. Lol! I changed to my work cloth, pull my tool bag and work don start be dat! No breakfast, no lunch and no water entered my stomach till around 4pm when the timing belt replacement was completed. Now, i dont remember how hungry i was that day while in the engine bay. Before the timing belt job, i was always scared to rev the car beyond 2k rpm, not knowing what would happen to the old timing belt i didnt know the mileage it has covered; not knowing the sound i might hear at that such rpm before the car stalls and the engine packs up, because i didnt get her to kiss the engine good bye. But now, hmm! Trust me, you do not want to know what i do to that throttle pedal when am in the mood, all because i conquered that laziness.

So, again, have you dealt with the laziness? grin

Ikenna
well friday i had the car on stands took for track rod ends etc to prepare to take of the drive shaft then something caught my eye the water tank resevoir there was not water, then my next worry was the cooling for the transmission oil, i could take out my car to bleed my cooling system, one car was blocking it. yesterday bleed the radiator took it for a spin shocking results it was fine but still i wasnt convinced took the wheels myself and drive for 10 mins none stop, and it lost the gears

now am thinking should i get a new (used one) transmission or repair, i still have question of repairs how much will the parts cost m,e so am in a limbo

that normal

a reaction to weather

rust being between the pad and disk

platinumricky: It seems ur fuel delivery system has been clogged by dirt... check ur injectors.
Injectors are the last thing to touch

Blow your fuel lines with compressed air, also try cleaning the fuel pump filter this is inside the fuel tank on the pump its self, dont let them change your pump or the so. Alled service to injectors. Dont forget to blow the fuel rail

We want to eliminate each part that delivers fuel to the injectors, i said the injectors dont touch becoz whatever has blocked cant, have passed through two filters without you noticing change in the car's driving

Car TalkEcus Aka Brainbox And Transmission PCM Aka For Brainbox For Trasmission by ZIMDRILL(op): 12:31pm On Jul 10, 2013
I have read few stories of people being told to change the ECU because it is not powerfull or change to from 13 to 10 pin
Well when you change an ECU it should be the exact as the one one you are taking of with the same pins, pins are connections to car sensors and electronics, if you put a 10 pin instead of a 13 it means,3 sensors or electronics connections might not working and you wouldnt know, what will be affected in the long run or even when you just turn on the key

Every ECU is designed for specific if engine you change to more powerfull(replacing the weak one)how do you expect your engine to last long when the ECU is not designed for your engine, As long your mechanic has not pull a code from the ECU do not allow him/her to change the ECU, Only codes, physical damaged and corrupted ECU can force you to change, codes point where the problem is, then error link can be a corrupted, damaged or scanner being not compatible with your car model or make, a good techician will elimate all those to find the real problem, before asking you to change the ECU but not with one with less pins

This also covers the transmission brainbox

Remember when you change the ECU for the main car you need to also change the ignition key since the ECU stored the security code for the key, but some make and model have the 2 ECUs the main ECU one then one for Key Code, they work this way when you insert the key, the key ECU reads the code, then sends the signal to the main ECU then the car starts 307 peugeot has this system, if the 2nd key ECU (BSI unit) is corrupt your car wont start it affects the windows, central locking, and the radio

This is just basic of those brainbox

There are things like ECU remapping to increase horsepower, security code erasing(no need for the ECU to read the key chip to start) we did it on a peugeot 406 10 years ago, i dont know if it can be done now
Car TalkRe: Toyota Highlander Transmission Problem by ZIMDRILL(m): 8:43am On Jul 09, 2013
malmo: Thanks so much my brothers.
The history of the whole scenario started in this fashion, I usual buy vehicles from carmax via a friend in usa to sell in nigeria. There was a time i saw an highlander 07 on craigslist for 9900 dollars it was like a mint with 94k mileage on it,i eventually bought the vehicle without checking the vehicle history. It was shipped via roro. The clearing agent who cleared it from the port though told me that the reverse was sluggish somehow. It was when he eventually brought it home that i observed that i cant reversed smoothly against gradient but moved forward pretty well on any terrain. That was how issue of changing the gearbox from 13 to 10 pin came about. After the transmission was changed i observed that for the vehicle to reverse i have to engage first in drive and later in reverse before it could move, with this i knew nobody will buy this vehicle on my lot . I want solution now, it cost me 207000 naira to bring in this highlander.

Thank you sir for your concern
1.AWD
2.I didnt do anything to it, other than the history i stated above.{it had history of transmission being serviced once in usa} It was after i brought it home from the port and was performing badly that I was advised by my technician to changed its gear from 13 pin to 13 pin module.
3. ATF didnt show
ATF -- Automatic Transmission Fluid /gearbox oil for automatics
on average you wont know much about transmission history the best is to always do your own service the moment you get the car, this gives you a peace of mind since the oil coming out would tell you roughly when the service was done (based on colour and smell)

On changing the module, it was going to work if there was a code saying the old one had fried or died, this also proved that your mechanic doesnt know much about automatic gearbox and scanning car (OBDII), if he had scanned the car he was never going to make you change the module, roughly he wasnt going to pick up any code related to transmission meaning the module was fine and is fine, and the problem would be inside the gearbox/transmission and the 1st start would be checking the oil level top it up if it is low or service by draining the old one and putting new oil

Ditch Your technician, most mechanics is african dont know the inside of an automatic transmission, its complicated for them, the valves, servos, hydrolics, solenoids and then the Module/ECUaka brainbox is hard for them to understand worse they dont have scanners

GDI engines are very senstive you also find them on S40, try by cleaning the idle stepper motor, clean with petrol, carb cleaner or even DW 40, high deposit of carbon is the motro cause high revs

viperman: Since the 'D' indicator isn't flashing on the Dash and the highlighted pat above is in question. You might have to check either of these:

1. Mass Airflow meter/sensor
2. Check your fuel pump/filter/supply line.
....
3. As a last resort, check the gear sensors(first level gear-gear 1)

Good luck
mass sensor has nothing to do with transmission
same with fuel pump, filter or supply lines

patlead: people please i want to know if there is any danger in removing a car battery. I noticed that whenever i remove the battery of my car probably to help someone else start their engine, mine refuses to start immidiately. i have to connect it for a while then later start up the engine. im shocked at this , but i will like to hear from my ever ready NL ato gurus
it wont start your car because it has been drained abit by the other car

imagine you are park on your car and the radio is on the battery is being drained by the radio so lets say 10volts is left
then you take to jump another car it starts it you take to your car without allowing to charge

it will still remain with low voltage hence you car takes longer to start

You were conned and he stole your money there was no need to change the ECU
He should have started by changing the gearbox oil may be two times and see any change, since he had said things have been grounded inside why did he suggest changing of ECU the only reason was to milk money from you

For now check the level of the transmission oil ATF if it is low top it up try the gears if the gears are engaging then drive for 15mins then drain the old oil and put new oil

ABS got nothing to do with transmission failure, even the auxiliary gear
If what i said doesnt work get a proper mechanic who knows how to fix automatic transmissions if not, find another gearbox
Foreign AffairsRe: Zimbabwe: One Of Africa’s Most Democratic Countries by ZIMDRILL(m):
mugabe was liked and backed by the british to win 1980 elections instead of nkomo who was supported by soviet union at the time

Mugabe did learn to cheat from them, after independence mugabe jailed all high ranking people from Nkomo's party, the likes of Dumiso Dambegwa and Lookout Masuku (who they later killed) they spent average 7 years in prison 1980 - 1987.
When the british were training the new zimbabwe army, Nkomo's fighter were being sideline for post and promotion and some went back into the bush this lead to fights First Entumbane Uprising & Gukurahundi

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gukurahundi

Mugabe always took Nkomo as a thread they later agree to a unity accord, with swallowed ZAPU

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zimbabwe_African_People's_Union

Then born ZANU PF, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zimbabwe_African_National_Union_%E2%80%93_Patriotic_Front)

of which we ended up having two vice presidents Nkomo being the other one and from the Ndebele speaking people, during the course of 1980-87 Mugabe idealogy was sort of a one party state

From 1987 onwards the preaching of now ZANU PF was like it was the only party that brought independence, things stabilised when Nkomo was in government untill his death

People ended up having this idea that without ZANU PF Zimbabwe is nothing, ministers started to be corrupt one got caught and committed suicide but some say he was forced to drink poison http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maurice_Nyagumbo

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enos_Nkala

Then the land issue

Many things played part in downfall of zim

1st it was war vets compensation scheme the war vets saw how rich some of their comrades were becoming since they held high post in governement. They said to Mugabe, they want a piece of the cake or they would go to bush to remove him.
The government gave out the money which was not part of thats years budget the money was in two parts huge lump sum of Z$50000 then monthly payments, this is 1997 the Z$ to US$ was 10:1 Corrupt officials abused the scheme they gave 100/% disablity to some people who are even walking and some who kids were during the war Grace Mugabe's (1st Lady) brother was caught in the saga

Then came the DRC war, zim soldiers went in, the soldiers were being paid in US dollar and the money was not part of the budget and it was draining the reserves if he has any

The governement could not keep pumping money to war vets it was stop by then, abuse of funds dried the government it was not properly planned from the begininig.

Around 1998/9 war vets cried for monies again since officials were getting richer and richer, and there was no milk and honey, from the liberation, they demostrated by invading farms and people were just taking them as people with a direction
there were not killing white people at that time then Mugabe highjacked the idea so to win votes already Mugabe had been shocked by the 2000 referendum votes

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zimbabwean_constitutional_referendum,_2000

He needed to win the 2002 election he never adressed the war vets and things got worse people started killings the white farmers, opposition people etc, Prodcuction in commercial farms dicreased and the rest is history

With or without sanctions Mugabe and ZANU has already run down Zimbabwe
No one is against land reform in Zimbabwe people did not like the way it was done

Elections in zimbabwe are rigged

right now people in urban areas are finding it hard to register for voting but people in the rural areas it doesnt take long, in town there are queues etc

the guy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tobaiwa_Mudede to head the voter roll as since been there since independence and he is hard zanu pf high ranking member he knows how to play around with voter role

mugabe we give him credit to some of the things but we want him gone, they can even find a new leader in there own party

land reform good idea but the way it was implemented

right now there are killing each from within this party http://www.thezimbabwean.co/news/zimbabwe/66353/zanu-pf-diamond-whistleblower-chindori.html

look at the car in the link not even the doors are damaged airbags didnt deploy etc and someone dies is such a crash ?

right now we have a whistle blower within the zanu pf he the one who warned about someone being killed in zanu

you can follow the guy on facebook https://www.facebook.com/pages/Baba-Jukwa/232224626922797?fref=ts

he claims to be a zanu pf member who is not happy with what is happening within zanu itself

It does not blow when d car engine is hot (i.e. after d car travels some km). I noticed dis problem since i buy it as tokumbo from texas U.S.A in decemba 2012. I need ur advise pls.
i would have started by putting 12volts direct to the horn, if it works then i would go to the steering find the horn wires brigde wires to the horn and press the horn if the horn work it rules out the horn switch on the steering

you would be left with wiring from steering to the position where the horn stays, this would be your only suspect. deeping with your wiring you can use the body as the negative and use a new wire from steering to the horn this wire would be a positive

sultaan: 1998 CRV with high miles mean its time for a new transmission. Old fluid was dark burnt when you changed it
the fluid wasnt dark

i dont think it needs a new trasmission but a service .i.e opening it up clean and changes oil rings

most garages and dealer points you at new transmission becoz few people specialise in automatic gearbox and dealer they wont be any point to open it when the hours can come to the same price of a new one
