Car TalkRe: Highlander And Honda-pilot by ZIMDRILL(m): 10:18am On Oct 09, 2013
2luvu4eva: Please Respected men in the house , I would want to know this two jeeps which one is the best in Nigeria and cost of maintenance base on mechanics . I am always a Mercedes Benz fan and user but my Mechanic told me is of no use buying it again since i do not live in Nigeria b/c of electrical faults for parking it for long.

1.HIGHLANDER AND HONDA-PILOT which is the best in secondhand value?
2.Fuel Economy?
3.What are they common problems in any of these two ?
4.The A/C aspects?
5.spare-parts cost?
you skipped two main things, year and engine size we cant compare mpgs without engine size, highlander has 3 engine sizes 2.4, 3.0 & 3.4

pilot 3.5
Car TalkRe: How I Wish by ZIMDRILL(m): 11:50pm On Oct 06, 2013
kumari_089: Guys pls would like to know how much it cost to change the radiator of Volvo s80 2006 model. The issue is that the coolant level is always getting low after every two days and i was advice by my mechanic to have to change the radiator. Explaining that it is always recommended to change the radiator of a Tokunbo car because of our temperature here compare to what is obtain from where the car is being shipped from. Is this truehuh
are cars from Tokunbo made in nigeria? or west africa ? am sure more than half are imports, any car can work in any part of the world the only things that are changed to suit a certain climate are engine oil and tires

if your radiator is not leaking check all your water hoses and please explain the getting low would it be below the minimum mark or low from the level you have left it after topping up eg you top to maximum then after two days it would be below the maximum and not below minimum?
Car TalkRe: Cars And Fuel Economy by ZIMDRILL(m): 1:59pm On Oct 06, 2013
siralos135: Pls guys i need your take on the issue of car and fuel economy.
Some say it is toyota...........bt which model of toyota.
we talked about it and we clearly mentioned that it is not about a a brand name eg toyota, honda. volvo etc and neither is it about model eg carmy, cr v, s40

it all comes to engine size and the specification of the engine eg same engine size but one is a turbo and the other one is non
Car TalkRe: Which Car Consume Fuel The Most?? by ZIMDRILL(m): 11:00am On Oct 01, 2013
♥Dεs•Chγκσ♥:
Hope you understand what average means, Mr Wrong-spotter?

AveragE!! Average!! Average!! Do some Nigerians have problems reading and comprehending written English??
#unfollows thread#
all mpg are calculated per average and no brand name can be said is better than the other when it comes to mpg since these brand names produce different engines size

like i said before engine size is required and you compare the same rounded figure engine size eg 2.0ltr toyota vrs a 2.0 ltr volvo not yours of comparing a just brand names only
Car TalkRe: Which Car Consume Fuel The Most?? by ZIMDRILL(m): 8:06pm On Sep 30, 2013
♥Dεs•Chγκσ♥:
It's difficult to answer your question because car manufacturers strive instead to make their cars fuel-economical. However, I can tell you that on an average, Toyota does the better job on fuel economy.
you are wrong on toyota

becoz you are using the brand name instead of using the actual engine size of a model and compare that to another make and model of the same engine size

just imagine if you use brand name and you pick toyota but it is a Yaris/Vitz 1999 then i pick a Daewoo Matiz/Chevrolet Spark 1999

a better fuel -economical woul be a Matiz, why becoz the engine size is 0.8 ltr and Yaris a 1.0 ltr
Car TalkRe: Which Car Consume Fuel The Most?? by ZIMDRILL(m): 7:52pm On Sep 30, 2013
smart134: This has come across my mind..but just wana know..whi car do u think consume fuel the mosthuh Many say its Foldhuh Whats yourshuh
when you care comparing two or three things you need figures

eg a 1.8 ltr honda vrs 1.8 ltr toyota comparing the two would be aasy since the figures are there and the engines are rounded to same size

but

you can not compare a 1.6 ltr Vw golf and 2.0 ltr honda civic since the engine size are different
Car TalkRe: ECU Stolen by ZIMDRILL(m): 7:46pm On Sep 30, 2013
it is pointless to steal an ECU without the key or key and immobiliser module, as you will be forced remap that ECU to work with your key/immobiliser

and also there is nothing called the ECU is underpowered/ is not powerful
Car TalkRe: Fix All Your Troubling Car Issues by ZIMDRILL(m): 8:40pm On Sep 26, 2013
mic foley: Hi. I had this problem with my Toyota corolla 2005 American specs a while back. The car refused to start after I had changed the fuel pump like 4 times in 2 wks. I noticed that in the mornings the car would start. If I drove for like 5km then stop to buy something for like a minute or two, the car would refuse to re-start. It continued like this for a while. . However if I leave the car for like 2-3hrs to cool, it would then start. What could have been the cause
what makes you think it is the fuel pump ?

next time try this when it refuses to start disconnet the fuel line on the fuel rail and start the car fuel should come on (remember not disconnet the return time )

Christianity EtcRe: Is It Wrong To Preach In A Public Transport? by ZIMDRILL(m): 8:27pm On Sep 25, 2013
kismo: I boarded "Ajumobi Shuttle" today, on my way to Dugbe from Iwo Road. Before we get to NECO Office at Gate, a young man started sharing the word of God in the bus. As soon as he started, the driver just inserted Orlando Owo disc and tuned the volume to the peak, that the people beside the young man couldn't even hear him anylonger. This driver didn't tune down the volume of the bus tape, even with the pleads of the passengers. Please my people, is it wrong to preach in public transport?
yes it is wrong if those people (public) wanted to hear the word of god they would have either gone to church or busy reading the bible itself

beside they just preach without even asking people if there are ok with it, just imaging your neighbours playing his/her radio very high without even asking if it is ok
Car TalkRe: Difference Between An Automatic And Manual Cars by ZIMDRILL(m): 1:05pm On Sep 25, 2013
whether automatic or manual, brakes need to be applied so I don't see why your moaning about braking

as for now concentrate on learning to drive the manual, when you are perfect with manual, then automatic would be easy no one will teach you but you will just figure it out yourself

Car TalkRe: How Can One Use The Tiptronic Gear Transmission?? by ZIMDRILL(m): 11:32am On Sep 24, 2013
Lagusta: Most new cars with auto tranny usually have the tiptronic transmission installed with it. I believe it is an alternative that allows the driver to engage gears manually, by tipping the lever upwards to increase gears and downwards to decrease it.....

Now the question: since there is no clutch, how do we shift gearshuh Or do we use the button on the gear lever to shifthuh

Car gurus and petrol-headshuh?
simple in tiptronic mode you just tap the shifter either UP (+) or DOWN (-)

If you are in gear 2 and tap UP (+) if shifts to gear 3 repeat the same for higher gears

for shifting down tap DOWN (-) eg from 4th gear to 3rd
Car TalkRe: Where Can One Get SAE 5W30 Engine Oil Here In Nigeria...? by ZIMDRILL(m): 8:35pm On Sep 23, 2013
chemvic: Hello house... i have searched for this 5W30 engine oil but haven't found it. i was able to get one online branded by Total Ineo. I got to the total service station here in Ilorin, to my amazement the attendants and supervisor said total doesn't manufacture 5W30. the same was said by Mobil service station too....Please who knows where one can get 5W30 engine oil here in nigeria and the likely price.
you need to understand what those number mean

5w (is for climates like europe) 5w meaning average winter temperature in the morning they call them winter grades http://www.upmpg.com/tech_articles/motoroil_viscosity/

is 5 degrees an average nigerian winter ? i guess thats the reason it is not common there becoz from actual meaning it is not meant for your region

lomomike: No pun intended but I disagree with you Mr Elektra80 on the above selected phrases pls read this article. Thanks

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-foot_braking
you are both right and wrong

generally that technic is for racing cars and drivers and the pedals are designed for such manuvours (the mili seconds counting in racing) not in general driving
though people with general cars use that technic, but then what is the point of using an automatic when you are using both legs

if it was the timing belt/chain the car would have not drove
Car TalkRe: Help Radiator Fan Not Working ( Problem Solved ) by ZIMDRILL(m): 9:32am On Sep 19, 2013
JUO: i just went through the manual and saw fuse number. i used my meter to test the fuses and discovered a blown fuse. i bridged the fuse and powered on the ac everything started working. am going to buy the fuse and wash the condenser/radiator. Thanks everybody for your input
very clever but remember to use a very thin wire, why becoz we dont know what made it blow, so if you a very thick wire it wont blow and it will damage the wires as they will heat up and melt especially the positive one
Car TalkRe: Help Radiator Fan Not Working ( Problem Solved ) by ZIMDRILL(m): 10:19pm On Sep 18, 2013
kingschild123: It could be any of a number of things:
Low refrigerant. An A/C system requires a
certain amount of refrigerant to cool properly. If low, it works less efficiently and does not cool well.
Dirty condenser -- The condenser is the heat exchanger mounted in front of the radiator. It cools the high pressure refrigerant vapor after it exits the compressor so it can condense into a
liquid. If the condenser is full of leaves, bugs and road debris, air flow through the unit may be blocked to the point where little cooling occurs. Cleaning the condenser should cure the problem.
Inoperative condenser cooling fan. The
condenser often has its own separate electric cooling fan. This fan should come on and remain on when the A/C system is operating. If the fan motor, motor relay or wiring is defective, the fan may not be working.
Air or moisture contamination -- For the
refrigerant inside the system to do its job
properly, it must not be contaminated with air or moisture. Air reduces the cooling efficiency of the system while moisture can freeze and form ice that causes blockages in orifice tubes and
metering valves. Air and moisture
contamination may be the result of unrepaired leaks in the system, or failing to vacuum purge the system prior to recharging it with refrigerant.
Blockages -- Debris, rust or debris in the system may plug up the orifice tube or metering valve that admits refrigerant into the evaporator. If this vital point becomes obstructed, the flow of
refrigerant may be restricted or blocked causing a loss of cooling -- and possible compressor damage as well in systems that rely on oil circulating with the refrigerant for lubrication.
Mechanical problem -- These include things like metering valve failures, compressor wear, a compressor clutch that fails to engage, bad
pressure switches, etc. Pinpointing the problem will require the skills of a competent A/C technician
i think his worry is not the AC but the fan of the car cooling system
Car TalkRe: Crack Windscreen by ZIMDRILL(m): 10:06pm On Sep 18, 2013
donchuky: @Zim, Thanks my brother for your advise. which make of glass is the best as the type i saw in market (XYG &BSG) are china product.
sorry am in UK i know nothing about those code

normally here the Screen is changed by the insurance (through and agent ) if it is part your insurance package
, if you dont have it as part of insurance, we always advise people to get it from the scrap yard, then just look for someone to fit it for you

i suggest you do the same get it from accident damaged cars
Car TalkRe: Crack Windscreen by ZIMDRILL(m): 10:01pm On Sep 18, 2013
Ikenna351: It can be treated to stop spreading, the crack. Had it been you are in Abuja, i would have given you a specialist phone number who stays at Area 10.

But if the crack is much, then you will need to replace it since VIO or Road Safety won't smile at you anytime they stop you and see it.

Ikenna.
here in UK they dont treat cracks put a chip

once a crack is there it is hard to treat

Bossforeva: Maybe Faulty thermostat *jux guessing*.
remember he said even with AC

AC got nothing to do with thermostat

back to the question check your fuses both to the fan and AC pump after that also check relays for both
Car TalkRe: Serpentine Belt Failure by ZIMDRILL(m): 8:50pm On Sep 18, 2013
icemann: The answer to your question is YES
And i explain= When the belt ripped, the battery was powering the ECU and the car kept on going. With out an ACTIVE water pump and i guess the belt broke the fan (Happened to a friend) Your car will over heat. To make the scenario worse if the car was idling in the same spot it wouldn't take long to over heat in this hot summer.
before it even overheat you should feel that the steering has become too hard and battery sign should come on as the alternator wont be charging
so the question is what sort o driver ignores those two
Car TalkRe: Siena: Please Read VW Jetta Issues by ZIMDRILL(m): 3:16pm On Sep 18, 2013
fsb: Dear Siena,

I recently acquired a VW Jetta 2006 model that developed transmission issues. I will attempt to list these issues:

1 . All gears are selected in the instrument panel (I guess that means it is in limp mode. Why it is in limp mode is what I don't understand)

2. Other signs: vehicle occasionally jerks quite violently when the reverse gear especially is selected from 'P' position. The ride is also jerky also occasionally. Most times, the car will change gears seamlessly but with deceleration to a complete stop, accelerating is unusually prolonged. Seems the engine power for some reason isn't been transmitted to the wheels. There is also the occasional high engine revs (loss of gear).

This all began on a trip to Abuja. I had the car taken to mandilas where the car was scanned and a change of gear oil and gear oil filter was recommended but the solution seemed too simple for the complicated problem. The error was cleared (and while driving, only 'D' was selected but about 30 minutes later, all gears were selected while in traffic and problem has persisted.

Currently in Lagos and had the car taken to VW dealership and they recommended changing the transmission and the cost of a new gearbox is about the cost of a new Kia Rio. So there lies my dilemma.

Recently however, there is a rattling noise, not very loud that is audible when the gear is changed to 'D'. That occurred the morning the car was being driven to the dealership.

In any case, what do you advise?

1. Get a mechanic to fix the gear box?
2. Buy a tokunbo gear box

Would love to hear from you. Would also appreciate the contact of a transmission specialist in Lagos from members of the house.
take it to people who do proper diagnostics, why did they clear the code and not tell you the code number ? the code has all answers to your problem

donchuky: I had a crack on my Toyota 2007 windscreen (see attached), can it be sealed with the windscreen repair kits? if yes can where can i get it. secondly which make of windscreen is the best to go for because the market survey i did in Benin left me in doubts, some ppl at the market told me that XYG glass is the best while others said BSG but all are china glasses and would like to know if the are blur whenever it rains. pls advice
why bother just go a full replacement
Car TalkRe: Serpentine Belt Failure by ZIMDRILL(m): 3:09pm On Sep 18, 2013
icemann: The car is chain driven. so are you still calling it belt or chain?
I am sure the Mech and owner can differentiate between a belt and chain

I wasn't the OP's Car so i guess he didn't have the full story
it doesn't matter whether you call it timing belt or chain, they still the same job the only difference is what there are made of timing chain is chain made of steel and belt made of rubber

but the question is whether the auxiliary belt can cause pistol and valves damage the answer is no also unless the owner is confusing between timing chain/timing belt (depends on car and model) and auxiliary belt

there is also confusion in the original post
He told her that the serpentine belt, top cylinder gasket and water pump will have to be replaced.

unless he guy is lying and is trying just to squeeze more on the gasket and water pump when is only supposed to change the auxiliary belt/serpentine belt
Car TalkRe: Remote Starting In 2009 Corolla S by ZIMDRILL(m): 11:22pm On Sep 17, 2013
datola: My old Toyota Camry 96 model xle had that feature. I mistakenly discovered it too just like you even though it was clearly written when ou open the the bonnet that the car is equipped with remote starting feature.

But note, the car cannot be engaged to derive in that mode. Once you press on any of the pedals the engine goes off.

I don't really see any usefulness of such feature other than to keep the car warm remotely. And keeping car warn before driving has been discouraged as a bad practice.

The remote start thing is not bad at all for shown off.
remember you have to put the key to position number II, then it wont switch off that how all aftermarket remote start work, the ones i have installed

is simple terms if you start the car by remote and try to drive without putting the key back into the ignition barrel and turn it to position II, the start will switch off, it is a satety feature eg the steering will lock in the middle of driving becoz the key is not there

Car TalkRe: Remote Starting In 2009 Corolla S by ZIMDRILL(m): 8:21am On Sep 17, 2013
Stylz69: Today I stumbled across a feature I never knew my car had and I want to know if it is a factory fitted option or 3rd party.
I was trying to unlock the car using the remote buttons on the key. I didn't realise I was pressing the lock button and I guess I held it down for about 2 seconds. To my greatest surprise, the dash lit up and the car started. I was startled and tried to unlock the doors but they wouldn't respond to the key press so I used the key to unlock it manually.
Has anyone experienced such? Note that the key is the 4 button key and no extra key fob. Is this a glitch or do these cars come with a remote start feature?
some cars come with it but as an extra when it is new (extra --- things you pay to customerise to your taste ) or the car might be a unlimited edition (come with lots of extras and the price is higher than of the some model that doesnt have extras)
