I am sure that there is some logic here somewhere, the problem is that it is buried so deep that it cannot be found. So when it is established the earth is about 4.5 billion years old, science must be wrong. the fact that there is nothing in the bible that is verifiable elevates it above assertions that have been tested by many scientists over the years.

Let us talk about the power of prayer. A woman I knew had cancer. She was one of those irritating born again types. Only books she read were the bible and those useless tomes from self-anointed pastors and 'Men of Dog God'. She went to church 4 or 5 times a week.
When she met with her doctors, they gave her 6 weeks to live.
As you can imagine, intensive prayer sessions began, 'prayer warriors' did whatever moronic things 'prayer warriors do. Pastors, in direct communication with the sky fairy, spoke in tongues. All this directed to curing this 40 year old woman.
After about 7 weeks, her condition seemingly improved. You can imagine how great God is. He proved the doctors wrong. (What do they know anyway? Only god can cure.)
2 months later her condition deteriorated, and she died.
Guess what ? Those people still claimed that god had answered their prayers, as the woman was given time to see her daughter's 10th birthday and reconcile with a friend she had fallen out with.
This is the extent to which those who desperately want to believe in the power of prayer deceive themselves on a daily basis.

When will these morons learn that Noah never existed?
The story of Noah is a MYTH, like everything else in the bible.

   prayer is not superstition.it is only when you fail to understand what prayer is that makes you think it is superstitious.the bible makes it clear that  prayer works when you pray the way it should be.
    first you have to pray and have faith that your prayers would be answered, and work in faith without works is dead, so you have to work in accordance to what you have prayed for. you also have to make sure that there is nothing that you are engaging in that will hinder your prayers from being answered.
   just analyze these and you would just understand why the prayers of those you mentioned failed to be answered.

Excuses, excuses, excuses. It is amusing reading the word 'superstitious' as if a belief in the efficacy of prayer is not superstitious. What a pity, all those 'prayer-hours' in churches and mosques all over the land wasted on a regular hours.
Prayers do not work - as for having faith - pastors pray everyday for Nigeria to become a decent place for its citizens to live. It has not happened yet. I assume that those pastors do not have faith.

The attitude of most of the posters here leaves me very cold and worried for human rights. If these people even get their way and turn Nigeria into a theocratic state. Excuses are being made for a man who has breached his wedding vows (as a pastor, no doubt, christian vows). If the bible claims that a woman cannot divorce her husband under these circumstances, then the status of the bible as a book of morals is very suspect.

I dont think we should burder about this for too long. Buying a jet is not the issue, My question is, how long are they able to maintain the jet? The cost to maintain the jet in a month is enough to buy 15 people ticket (return) to Europe, that is what one single man will spend from the church pocket because according to him he is going to where ever to preach. Do not misquote me. I would never say that christianity is full of loons. What I said is that there is scope for loons in christianity. My wife is a christian and is definitely not a loon. I have read a lot of posts on NL from christians (you included) and while I disagree with a lot of what they say, I consider them to be sane human beings who are passionate about their beliefs.
However, there are a few who definitely belong to the loony camp. Anyone who says that a christian who commits a sin is not a sinner because he is a christian is a fully signed up member of the loony commuinty.

Why do you need anyone to pray for you? Are you incapable of praying for yourself? Where in the bible does it say someone has to pray for you? If a pastor does not pray for you, so what? After all, the man has a lot of things on his mind, like what kind of Hummer to buy next and how to fleece even more money from the mumus who insist on giving their hard earned (although sometimes stolen money) to their pastor.
The problem is not whether the pastor prays when you give him your meagre offering (why are you so parsimonious), the problem is that you will give him your money at all.
