Are we not being unfair to pastors (never thought I would ever write this about those thieves people), afterall, they do not stand there and force anyone to part with their money. It is the greedy and the stupid people who hand over their money because they have been promised a 10 fold return who allow them to get away with it.
They are not thieves, but conmen. They people who pay up and complain later are also crooks who want something for nothing.

There is also a book edited by by Christopher Hitchens called The Portable Atheist. It is a collection of writing by various people like Omar Khayyam, Thomas Hobbs etc. 47 different articles.

I also recommend the Bible (which I have read and not just the bits the pastors and other clergy want you to read), and the Koran. It would certainly help if the theists actually read the whole book and not just selected passages which suit their positions.

If you were HIV positive, you are still HIV positive. You surely do not expect reasonable people to take your word for it that you have been cured. Show us the proof, subject yourself to proper rigorous examination by experts. We need to see the before and after. Last I knew, there is still no cure for HIV (not even in church).

Because if a person is born with a gene that produces a large number of defective red blood cells, then nothing can change that gene. But a person who has a strong faith or who has a very strong will to survive will live longer than a person who quickly gives up on life. People with terminal cancer have been known to live beyond the periods prescribed by doctors.

My cousin (more like my brother) had the worse form of sickle cell. He barely survived his first year. But he was so determined to live life to the fullest, he was not particularly a Christian, i would term him an Agnostic.

He defied medical explanation twice. He was once given a wrong blood type ( in UCLH London) and his blood clotted badly, the doctors were amazed he survived that. He had battled leukemia for close to 7 years, survived chemotherapy twice, and finally gave in to the leukemia in 2004 at the age of 32. While passing through all these, he had a diploma in cinematography and film production and became the youngest member of the British Guild of Directors. He learnt Japanese, worked on a  MTV and lot of music videos for upcoming musicians, and produced and directed many short films. What kept him going for so long was his love of Life and faith that he could beat the decease.

So there are illnesses that God cannot cure.  Surely a contradiction in terms, if you believe that God can cure illnesses. Defying medical explanation is not the same as being cured. Ultimately, you cousin died young of leukaemia. So no cure then.

Reminds me of when I was diagnosed with diabetes. Whilst I accepted it in good grace and resolved to listen to the experts, my christian friends kept on 'rejecting it in Jesus's name.' There was a lot of 'you will be richer in 2010 than in 2009,' '2010 is the year of plenty'. Friend who invited forced me to go said that similar predictions were made the previous year. Dr. Adegbite is doing his usual mental gymnastics. He has been doing it for years. A man tries to blow up a plane, citing Islam as his motivation. His spiritual mentors are very learned in the Quran,  and can quote extensively from the Quran for support. To claim that Islam abhors violence is the result of selective reading of the book. The reality is that one can take from any religious tome whatever one wants from the book.

According to him, Islam, as a religion of peace, abhorred violence and forbade extra-judicial killing of people.

Even he knows that this is not true. It may well be that, as the Christians do with unpleasant parts of the bible , he has chosen to pretend that all those suras that advocate the killing of 'infidels' do not exist. However, it is dishonest to describe Islam, or indeed any other religion, as a religion of peace.

Mutallab was acting in the name of Islam, was influenced by Islam, therefore, we can link his actions to Islam. Dr. Adegbite may not be happy with this, but it is true.

you better be very careful about how you talk and react about people, especially those being called with the name of the Lord.
what is even your point, is it about money or abour T.B Joshua and the rest. If you have ever believe in any spiritual matter, you will know that you have to be careful.

What is this nonsense about 'anointed men of God'? Since when is criticising another man become an offence against god? All these guys are crooks fooling the masses with fairy tales. Yet we hang unto every piece of tripe that comes from their lips, even as they promise us untold wealth whilst living off tithes.

It tells us more about the mentality of our leaders, who instead of working of the benefit of their people, go around seeking superstitious solutions to the problems of the country. They are always calling on Jehovah and Allah to solve the problems we face.

2009ice i call it. God has been so faithful to me this year. He delivered me from all forms of sickness,made me see the ending of the year cos so many people i know passed away this year.

Strange - what did he do for those people who died? Some sort of punishment for their sins. There seems to be some sort of selfishness attached to belief, 'As long as I am okay, screw the rest.'

@ Skyliner, so what would u have us do? curse God and blame him for all the problems in our country? no matter what , God has kept us alive through it all and that alone is enough to give him praise, do u think about those who are dead and gone? it is our sins that keep us in such wretched conditions, the bible says that righteousness exhalts a nation but sin is a reproach to all men. we should stop trying to blame the God or the government, we should work on ourselves first and pray to God as a nation to turn our captivity around. God has sustained us through the year and kept the breath of life in our lungs  so i think he is worhty of all the praise we are giving him.

Who else do you blame? God, according to you, is omnipotent. He is responsible for all things. If you believe in God, of course, he is to blame for all problems. Likewise, he is responsible for all good. Believers cannot eat their cake and have it.
