Your own personal opinions and views regarding specific acts of nepotism would have sufficed instead of other people's baseless views and assertions...
Baseless? The assertion that Tinubu has become an overlord after the fashion of Napoleon. That Yorubaland is now his personal fiefdom through sheer nepotism as blindly supported, encouraged and championed by Eko Ile on Nairaland?

eGuerrilla:

There are two separate issues here that have now been conflated, in my opinion:

(1) Allegations of nepotism
(2) ACN's refusal to guided by primaries in the selection of its electoral candidates

On the first issue, it is fair say most commentators on this thread actually take a pejorative view.
The reason for this is quite simple; no amount of spin from the opposing side of the divide can dampen what independent observers consider an assault on their senses, especially given the unequivocal denials issued by party apparatchiks just a few days earlier. If Tinubu does not curtail his political overreach soon, history will judge him accordingly.

Moving on, can we afford to be equally dismissive of ACN's selection process, within a context of cash-and-carry politics which often make primaries superfluous? Is this particular tradition really incompatible with democracy, when both the Conservative and Labour party in Britain which have been in existence for more than 100 years - Miliband backs US-style primaries - still uphold it?

How do we ensure a greater inclusion of women or even those drawn from linguistic minorities, in mainstream politics, if there is no absolutely room for some element of selection?

Wrong! Wrong!! Wrong!! On your second account, that is.

The labour party does carry our internal primaries. 25% of the MPs in the party must vote for him who emerges as the party leader, who of course goes on to become a candidate for the prime minister position.

Desola, have a read of this article written by Peter Watt (General secretary of the Labour party).

Labour’s new way of selecting parliamentary candidates makes a mockery of calls for more working class MPs

by Peter Watt

Class is back on the agenda. Bashing the posh “Eton” Tories has become popular again for many in Labour’s ranks. Personally I think the “posh” attacks are pretty appalling. But the Tories don’t really help themselves and I guess you could argue that they invited it with the “we’re all in it together” nonsense. But it’s a long time since the Labour party was stuffed full of working class members or representatives.

Nope, Labour may not have quite the public school quotient of the Tories but our ranks are still drawn from a narrow pool. We are pretty much wholly middle class and there are an awful lot of teachers and lawyers at most party meetings! The same is true of our MP’s except that there are also a fair old number of political professionals from the ranks of trade unions and political advisors.

The party has though made some real strides over recent years in increasing the numbers of women. There’s a way to go, but the progress is clearly good news. And you’d think that the recent signals that the party was looking to diversify its ranks in Westminster further, by recruiting more working class MPs for instance, would be the start of further progress. But I fear that it is in fact just hollow words that will come to nothing.

Those who really know the Labour party know that real power is in the hands of those who control the organisation. And that means that you need to understand the rules and procedures. Better still, mould them to your own ends.

It is why the Organisation Sub-Committee (Org Sub) of the NEC is the committee that every member of the NEC wants to be on. And it’s why the Trade Unions fight so hard to make sure that they have plenty of reps on it and generally chair it.
You see, the Org Sub controls selections, discipline, the rule book and internal elections. And the reality is, that it is the wording of the rules and regulations for the selection of Parliamentary candidates, approved by the Org Sub that determines whether fine words are translated into reality.

For instance, when push comes to shove, years of fighting for more women in parliament ultimately meant that Org Sub had to approve selections procedures that made it happen. And when I wrote those procedures back in the day, it was a painful process that involved every line and word being fought over. The reason? As well as looking at how to maximise the number of women elected, all of the stakeholders were also trying to make sure that their vested interest (trade union, socialist society and so on) was advantaged. It meant that we could increase the number of women selected for safe seats but also that those trade union officials and grandees who needed rewarding (or simply getting rid of) got their seat irrespective of their gender.

The opposiion to Tinubu have always been crude and uncoordinated and One thing aout Tinubu is that he always manage to stay on the right side of the law and makes the opposition desperate thereby making Tinuu more popular

The series of allegation against Tinubu which have fallen easily

1. He forged his certificate. How would one who forged certicates from the US work with Arthur Andersen, Delloite and Mobil

2. He is not from Lagos he is from Iragbiji. LOLstatic

3. He was running foreign accounts while in office. This was easily thrown out by the ICPC ran by the PDP

4. He is running a Tax collection consultancy. Is it legal for him to conduct such business Like other Nigerians?

5. He imposes candidates. It was already stated far back that in the ACN they dont conduct primaries

6. He is pushing his family into Politic. Are his family supposed to be disenfranchised because they are related to him?

7. His family members were not politicians before making them run for office. Must you be a Politician before you can contest?

8. He imposed his daughter as Iyaloja. Was he authority to appoint/select Iyaloja? Should the daughter be denied cos she is related to Tinubu

9. The daughter is too young. What is the age criteria to be Iyaloja

10. He is too powerful. Anyone who is able to chase PDP out of 6 states the so much desired would be powerful

If you cant coordinate allegations against him properly it would always make the opposition just look desperate and grabbing at straws

It reminds me of the American gripe against Obama

But surely the balance of power within these British parties is such that no one individual can abuse the system. For instance, Cheryl Blair is a high powered QC, why didn't the Labour party select her as a MP candidate? Surely its because of the balance of power within the party and the obvious sensibility of Tony Blair in recognizing that such a move would constitute a conflict of interest. Not in Nigeria, why would Tinubu impose his wife as a candidate when he is aware that he is the power of the party? Because he doesn't give a Bleep what his supporters think and his supporters are 'yes men' anyway. No one will try something that may interfere with his livelihood.

Once again kudos to Sir Kats, the ever green Prof. Corruption, Lady Desola, and Baron Ola One.

I'm surprised Kats didn't take Gbawe to the cleaners for citing "stakeholders" to justify the undemocratic and nepotistic way, in which the lady in question was selected. When he, Gbawe, and eGuerilla already posted excerpts from different sources that show that the so-called "stakeholders" were selected by the late market leader(who was the lady in question's grandmother). So what do you expect puppets to do? It's just a pity that the REAL stakeholders - the ordinary market women on the streets of Lagos - don't really have a voice. However, those of us who have a voice and can discern tyranny/tyrants when we see one, must continue to speak out. Perhaps, Gbawe thinks he can bamboozle everyone with his unnecessary verbose ladden posts. Certain actions are just unacceptable! And we must continue to question our leaders.

No one is infallible and I believe the man, Fashola, is ripe enough to unseat this nepotistic tyrant and dictator from Lagos.

The gentleman understands what is right, whereas the petty man understands profit.”

^^^We should be able to understand who the gentlemen are, and who the petty people are. Kudos to those arguing for what is right. And shame on those doing it for what they will benefit from it. Enough said!

One point which escapes ACN supporters and which is quite surprising, is that they don't understand the role perception will play in the next election.

1. Yoruba stakeholders may kick against the ACN due to certain perceptions. It doesn't matter whether those perceptions are real or otherwise.

2. For a party that is trying to become more national, it is clearly going about its branding in the wrong way. How does it gain national acceptance if non-Yoruba believe Tinubu will turn the national coffers into his petty cash and appoint his kids as senators (nominating his kids as senatorial candidates is not illegal after all)? Of course the ACN may not care about winning elections outside the SW, so one may wonder why it is bothering with merging with other parties to challenge PDP nationally.

The Ooduas have shown Tinubu lots of goodwill, we told AD to get off and showed him our support. Let his handlers tell him these things and let him open his hears to listen carefully.

1. The Afojas in Ilorin are the only Oodua decedent that do rankadede and allow someone to become their lord (Sola Saraki), Omo Yoruba have leaders but not lords, we follow but not serve as servants to anybody.

2. Yorubas can say yes to you today and tomorrow ask you who your father is (The Hausas understand this about us than the Igbos, someone need to remind Ojuyobo this)

3. If he is not yet satisfied with all he has and still stand to gain, he is being greedy and no greedy man leads in the Oodua republic.

4. He should stop this nonsense about 'appearing' to favor a religion above another, Yorubas don't play religion card.

Ni ipari, somethings are lawful but not expedient, he should have had the sense to tell his daughter to forget about this title when the offer came. You dont prove the magnitude of your wealth by the quantity of the salt you consume.

I am all for good governance, if the ACN model is working then good, if people feel disenfranchised by it, let them vote another party in, and if Yorubas feel the PDP is the next best solution, then by all means people should vote for them, the issue of Iyaloja is a non issue, it is for the traders to fight their fight if they feel she was imposed on them, the issue of selection within the ACN deserves more scrutiny and is easily resolved, let the people reject the ACN candidates at the polls, a note of caution sha, the only party that can displace the ACN is the PDP, if yorubas vote out of spite, well goodluck to them.

1. She was not imposed on anybody, she was voted for and elected by the people of Lagos and her husband did not force a single Lagosian to the polls to vote for his wife so where is the imposition or is is just that you do not know the difference between voted for/elected and imposition?

2. Tinubu can foist any candidate or his preference which politicians all over the globe do everyday, it's still up to the people of Lagos to freely walk to the polls and vote for or against any candidate including any perceived Tinubu's choice so what's your point really? Or do you really think Lagosians didn't see her last name on the ballot before voting for her regardless? Obviously, Lagosians careless about all the discriminatory and undemocratic sentiments you are pushing.

We judge people based on their qualifications and capabilities and never based on irrelevant hang ups about their last name and this is what Lagosians did at the polls and so far, she's delivered to her constituency more than any other senator in Nigeria.

Lagosians voted for the right person.

3. You did not complain when Tinubu bravely fought the FG/OBJ and staked his life against powerful forces in Nigerian to safeguard?

You did not complain when Tinubu wrestled the SW away from worthless and incompetent people.

You did not complain when Tinubu picked the performers we are proud of in the SW.

You did not complain when Tinubu secured and returned our lost voices and pride.

You did not complain about the terrible choice he made when he gave us the most celebrated and the best governor in the history of Nigeria.

Who do you think is taking bullets for the SW and protecting the SW against bad elements from outside?

Who paid for our freedom in the SW and suffered under trumped up tribunal charges?

....but you think heaven must fall because of some non governmental market association membership election? Is this the kind of petty and shallow nonsense we really should be debating or rubbishing this man for?

Was he a tyrant or savior when he did all the above? I know this is an aberration because Yoruba people are not this shallow and ungrateful.

And one point evading you is this is Nigeria and Tinubu understands it more than anyone else.

Where has Party primaries taken us in Nigeria? A situation where a moneybag like Omisore buys the party ticket in the name of primaries

For people present in Lagos in 2007 Guber poll when all the moneybags came out to challenge for Alausa under ACN, Most of those who don't even have the interest of the masses. Tinuu had the choice of taking their money and leaving Lagosians at the mercy of these internal primary guys, But he took it over and gave Fashola(One of the best) the ticket

In a party primary Fashola would never have emerged. Thats why in a Normal internal primary its a battle of money between Iboris $5,000 per delegate vs Atikus $10,000 per delegate vs Jonathans $25k per delegate.

That was what Bola Ige saw in Osun in 1999 that Omisore was going to win the primaries with the party primaries.

You would get the internal democracy and never see a Fashola in governance because he doesnt have the money to run it, He doesnt control the mobs to win elections, he doesnt have the organisation to win it.

All those belong to the Atikus, Adedibus, Iboris and Tinubu etc.

I have seen Tinubus hand picked candidates and they are the best we have had in over 30yrs which tells me In Nigeria, Tinubu is one necesary Godfather I can tolerate because of the administrators he mentors and give to us
