ZeusAyo: and who would sell you the F15/16? America? Besides do you know what happened to our jaguar jets

America wont because of our so-called "poor human rights record" but there are advanced warplanes from other western countries like typhoon (UK), dassault rafale (france), sukhoi (russia). These countries wont mind doin business with Nigeria. Its just down to lack of will by our leaders.

The Jaguar has long been withdrawn from service. Its no longer produced and supported by d French. And due to our poor maintenance culture, d best option is to retire it before accidents start occuring.

We are fighting an unconventional war, so we need fighter jets with advanced sensors, infra-red search-and-track systems, targeting pods, precision-guided bombs, etc

didnt u see the difference when d American started bombing IS militants in Iraq. The Iraqi airforce has been bombing them since with no real effect, but when America entered with advanced planes, d story changed.

Shilka is the nickname of the ZSU-23-4, a lightly armored, self-propelled, radar guided anti-aircraft weapon system (SPAAG)
It went into service in 1965 and its not modern at all! grin
A fearsome and deadly weapon system!
I believe Nigeria already have it in her armory!

highly briliant. These are the real Nigerians. I like you.

And probably meant higher calibre weapons not shilkas.

Is this to say that we do not have the amour to take on the BH boys.

When nations are preparing themselves against external aggression will are here newly purchasing new military hardware to curtail internal militias

is this not an indicator of weakness in an our combatant readiness as a nation

Aquiring these equipment were long over due since 1789.

But wait o!

Mbok, our presido was begging National Assembly to approve one billion dollars for the procurement of security equipment for our military? Have they approved it?

Twenty or more fully armed helicopters like the beauty in the above
picture could be acquired for the price of one ground-attack jet, and
these helicopters will be much cheaper to maintain, fuel and rearm after
each combat sortie, in comparison to a jet. Most importantly too,
helicopters do NOT need a runway to take off and land, as do fixed-wing
aircraft. Any piece of level ground will do for forward deployment
landing zones of helicopter gunships and medical evacuation choppers
during war.

A few helicopters will inevitably succumb to ground fire, as is always
the case when helos fly into war zones, but on the balance the above
idea is absolutely brilliant, proving you are a man of great insight as
well as Big Bawls, Blockus. [/quote]who will sell this helios to us?

Honestly we have a very strong military. Just that our past leader didn't seem fit to buy more modern equipment for them over the years. If they had equipped the military we shouldn't be talking BH by now. Well done NAF.

princefunmi:

You are forgetting something.

A Shilka gun is self propelled. How do you hope to adapt that to ground warfare.

A Shilka gun needs clear line of sight to be able to fire. How can you use a weapon that is not exactly that precise and suited for ground attacks to take out an enemy that majorly uses ambush tactics

It can be used where BH have taken defensive positions and have topographic advantage. It is like small tank

enomakos: who will sell this helios to us?

There are many variants of Light attack Helos available..

Nigeria is also a U.S ally and good diplomatic negotiations can land us some of these helos.

Aringon: Y r u arguing blindly , the paper mentioned shilka gun and not the model. Meanwhile a gun cud be modernised to face todays security challenges

If you call my statement an argument then you need to go and examine yourself. Meanwhile go and read more about the Shilka.

Shilka is actually an effective and fearsome weapon, but it definitely is not modern.

All you need is to relax a little and then you will understand instead of misunderstanding some one else.
Re: Boko Haram: FG Acquires 12 Fighter Jets by komekn(m): 3:15pm On Sep 01, 2014
One question , how many Apache attack helicopters have been shot down in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya or consider how many French Tiger attack helicopters were shot down in Mali and Cote d'Ivoir

The answer which is almost none tells you how effective they are, deploying 15 mil 24/35 and an array of cheap light attack helicopters like the MBB Bo 105, Hughes MD500 to name a fewin support will end the menace of Boko quickly or at the least render mostly ineffective.

The Mil 24/35 is incredibly robust able to take hits off a 20mm and still fly back to base and drop its arsenal of multiple weapons, nick named the flying tank.

The Shilka is outdated technology , Boko has no air assets in that regard there are far better alternatives available in the shape of IFV's with remote weapon stations.

Furthermore the boko technicals mounted with 14.5's and 20mm are not stabilised and as such they are highly inaccurate, however what they do have it seems is a limitless supply of ammunition. Boko strafes whole areas with continuous sustained fire, inaccurate fire creating more terror than casualties.

If our troops had modern assault rifles and high calibre sniper rifles (1500m effective range ) possibly a round in the engine block of a soft skinned technical will stop it right there and then incendiary rounds will take the gunner and his mates easily. Particularly when you consider that those technicals with untrained gunners will only be effective at ranges of 500m and less.

Unfortunately the AK47 under battle conditions will have an effective range of less that 150 metres, compare that to a H&K G36 optic sights with 600-800m effective range or similar assault rifle and our gallant soldiers are operating with archaic equipment and lots of bravery sadly.

seansifo: One of the reason Boko Harram won't end is simple because the Ogas@Dtop are using the opportunity to thief. I'm sure it would cost Nigerian purse over $1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.00 to acquire the the 12 fighter jets whereas the get might not even cost up to $1,000,000,000.00

The best time to be in Politic is NOW!!
The reason why YAR'ADUA went for Amnesty deal, because ogas at the top will milk the country dry.

Those Helos above are just lightweight , they'll easily be shot down by shoulder mounted rocket fire, which BH seems to have plentifully from videos seen . We can use them for support and extraction of Special forces. You would need a gunship for the task you are suggesting

These people need to stop fooling us Nigerians, you need to see dead UN armour tanks some Nigeria soldiers were seeing off to Abuja when i was on my way to Abuja some hours ago.How come we are always expecting handsout and used equipment from UN and America when we can buy these stuffs? We really need to watch it because America never give anything for free.Remember Saddam,AmericanS drilled their oil until they changed their mind on which currency they would henceforth be selling with, that is no more dollar but Euro. That was Saddam"s crime.Gadaffi equally committed the same crime. Our well dressed ill informed rulers need to take note.

Is that how we are going to equip the artillery men on foot? No special weapons are been given to them after much complain for better equipment to fight the useless and brainwashed Boko Haram. What more do you expect of me than to figure our a way to loan South Africa two of the jets to fight rhino-poaching in that country?
