One hopes Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi will pay close attention to roads maintenance in Enugu, before they all completely breakdown and there is no money to totally reconstruct them from the scratch. Some of the roads have developed potholes which can be quickly patched up now for almost nothing in cost.Like the road in the picture below, many many pothole spots have been noticed on some of the roads. They should be sealed immediately before they get bigger. There should be an on-going "Operation zero potholes to save Enugu roads from collapse as it was during military rule

If they are neglected and allowed to deteriorate, in this era of low oil price and low allocations, it will be very difficult to find money to award a complete reconstruction again.

A sage said "A stitch in time saves nine" . Ugwuanyi must be up and doing in maintaining the state's infrastructure from a possible collapse now that we may be unable to replace them due to the current financial realities.

Our traffic light needs some maintenance. This one here is working but some are not, some bulbs are dead and gives conflicting signals, one green light indicator which was supposed to ease traffic does not come on at Stadium road junction. This is confusing.

Boko Haram now in Lagos, Enugu –DSS

The Department of State Services has arrested 20 suspected Boko Haram commanders in Lagos, Kano, Enugu, Plateau and Gombe states.

The suspects, who were arrested between July 8 and August 25, 2015, include the masterminds of the suicide attacks in Potiskum, Kano, Zaria, and Jos.

The DSS in a statement by an official, Tony Opuiyo, on Sunday in Abuja, said those arrested were notable commanders and frontline members of the notorious group from different parts of the country.

The statement noted that the group’s new pattern of movement and spread was caused by the pressure being put on it by security forces in its core areas of strength in the North-East.

Bokoharam has no interest in the SEast, SSouth and maybe some part of SouthWest. Very unlikely the 2 regions will be attacked.

The worst they could do is setting up training camps and carrying out attacks back in their home base.
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by Nobody: 12:15pm On Sep 01, 2015
Why do you say they have no interest in south?I believe their aim is to de-stabilise the country.

I pray it doesn't happen, we will be finished, 'cause east seems to be witnessing some investments in recent times, any form of security threat will scare away these investors and potential ones.

Two kinds of Bokoharam exist in Nigeria:
1. Jamat Ahlas Sunnah Dawah wal jihad - The Main bokoharam: fighting to enthrone sharia in core Northern states

2. Political Bokoharam:Carried out terrorist attacks to protect their Northern Interest and regain power.

Any attack in Igboland should be blamed on political bokoharam or something else (it can never be Jamat Ahlas Sunnah Dawah wal jihad). 100% of the political bokoharam members are from Arewa Consultative Forum(ACF).
Most of the bombings in Abuja were likely carried out by ACF. The purpose of bombing the East and Lagos may really be to scare investors and slow down progress to enable the North catch up with the rest of the country.
Economic strength always translate to Political strength. Northern elites could have understood this fact and are doing everything possible to slow the economic progress..

We must also tip the police once we notice their activities and should be ready to act against those northerners ourselves if need be.

Ugwuanyi lays foundation stone for 200-bed Specialist Hospital

By Emmanuel Uzodinma on September 1, 2015

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, yesterday laid the foundation stone of a 200-bed specialist hospital in Orba, Udenu council area.

Speaking at the site of the proposed specialist hospital, the governor assured that his government would continue to deliver on his campaign promises in transforming the state into a desirable destination for medical tourist that would also draw investors within the country and from countries in the African continent to the coal city state.

It was an occasion during which the governor received applause for his people-oriented programmes from the World Health Organization, whose representative on the occasion, Mrs. Angela Izegbune, poured encomiums on him for taking such a bold move in the health sector in less than 100 days in office.

Governor Ugwuanyi told the huge crowd that the 200-Bed Ultra-Modern Specialist Hospital would on completion bring succor to the teeming population of residents of communities in the densely populated Enugu-North senatorial zone of the state and reduce the current pressure on the existing two tertiary health institutions in the state whose facilities can no longer carry the huge patients-traffic at the moment.

He recalled that a greater percentage of Nigerians who seek medical attention and assistance abroad are from the South Eastern region and that Enugu contributes a good percentage of them.

He enjoined medical workers industrial action capable of undermining the efforts of government, especially in the health sector, situations that could result in loss of lives.

The governor further assured that his government will continue to provide a conducive atmosphere for the effective discharge of medicare in the state.

He used the occasion to commend the host communities of the hospital project, that is, Orba, Imilike, (and) Ovoko/ Iheaka, for their kind understanding evidenced in their gesture of freely donating land and other forms of assistance for the site while assuring the speedy completion of the project.

According to him, apart from providing specialist services for the people in the rural communities, the health facility would also help to check current rural-to-urban drift syndrome that has bogged down Nigerian society for years now.

“I wish to enjoin all stakeholders in health sector in Enugu to key into this worthy initiative we have taken in the sector and give it the support and cooperation it needs to come to fruition.

“I wish to use the occasion to call on medical and allied workers in the state to show more dedication and commitment to their duties and as much as possible to avoid industrial actions that will occasion preventable loss of lives and consequent loss of faith and confidence in our hospitals.

“On our part as a government, we will as we have always promised provide the facilities, equipment and logistical support necessary for the effective discharge of duties of health workers in the state”, the governor said.

A New Hospital Concept for the 21st Century Igbo land

With the less that optimal performance of health care system in Nigeria leading to unnecessary deaths and loss of wealth in Igbo land due to medical tourism, World Igbo Congress has rallied the Igbo wealth of health care professionals in the Diaspora to introduce a new hospital concept focused on telemedicine built on outpatient services while maintaining critical emergency and acute care services. This model is unique because of the availability of world-class physicians abroad and locally who will provide an array of specialty services not otherwise available locally.

While it has often been believed that southeast and South-South zones and indeed the federal republic of Nigeria has an impressive number of tertiary teaching hospitals and Federal Medical Centers the paradigm of developing hospitals based on edifices and populated with health care staff who are mostly government employees is flawed. This is the bane of the Nigerian health care system and the root of its non-performance. Providence Hospital and Life Care System will take advantage of its proximity to these major local hospitals, by reversing the flow of patients and drawing on the large population centers of area for outpatient and surgery specialties, as well as affordable integrated health services that are well appreciated and in demand in the region.

At its heart, the plan relies on the high quality of clinical care that World Igbo Congress has rallied from the rich Igbo endowment of world class health care professionals in the US and Europe while expanding specialty services that build on this excellence. Direct marketing of these services is anticipated to attract patients from across the southeast and South-south administrative zones and as far as the countries in west and central Africa and enhance revenues across all service lines.
The plan also anticipates close alliances with local and regional healthcare providers by adopting telemedicine technologies that expand specialty patient care into local clinics, other hospitals in the region and worldwide through telemedicine.

Cloud based technologies for telemedicine, lab results, imaging and electronic health records will connect physicians and patients from any location including at every bedside. This unique opportunity to be a hub for telemedicine for the entire region will be led by our team of renowned specialists in telemedicine, and a team of world class specialists.

Operational strategies will add significantly to the bottom line and will be overseen by a board of 15 healthcare and business professionals. PHLCS will recruit an experienced administrator nationally recognized for excellent leadership skills.

Among the many new initiatives this plan identifies are:
• New outpatient services that will drive the utilization of lab, imaging, infusion, and inpatient services.
• A new marketing and patient education center within the hospital targeting a wider geographic area than just Igbo land.
• A patient experience focus that creates patient loyalty while offering services that are desired in the region.
• Operational excellence that ensures accurate charge capture, billing and collections.
• World class physicians offering specialty services that are not easily available in our region today
• Electronic Health technology and telemedicine, which improve access to patient clinical diagnosis and information for both patients and physicians in Nigeria and in renowned medical centers of excellence around the globe.
• Specialty institutes such as Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Institute, Brain and Spine Institute, Urology Institute, Integrative Health Institute, Endocrinology Institute, Rheumatology Institute and Wound Care Institute to capture and excel in the spectrum of ailments that beleaguer our people
• A business and health care oriented board, which will provide governance and demand fiscal responsibility, business growth and clinical excellence.
• A new community of health professionals complete with infrastructure, accommodation, security, schools and other facilities that make for a serene community living

The Ground-breaking ceremony is scheduled to hold at Ojukwu Conference Center in Owerri Imo State on August 14, 2015. The Executive Governor of Imo State Chief Rochas Okorocha will perform the ceremony. Members of his administration, the business community of the southeast, the traditional rulers and the people will be in attendance. The Chairman of World Igbo Congress, Joe Nze Eto, The Vice Chairman of WIC, Dr. Ken Igwe, the Chairman of WIC Health Committee, Dr. Jonathan Nwiloh, the Secretary-General of WIC, Dr. (Mrs.) Agatha Anosike, The Executive Director of WIC, Professor Anthony Ejiofor, Dr. Nkechi Azie, Secretary of the WIC Health Care Committee, Professor Chidi Onyenekwu and the Event Coordinator Muna Okpi among numerous people from home and abroad will be on the ground for the event.

Brilliant idea.
A center of excellence hospital affliated to one of the bigger centers of excellence hospitals in the USA should be developed.

medical students on rotation can actually come to learn tropical medicine at the hospital and Professors from the American hospital can be invited for lectures and teaching our local surgeons new techniques to do surgeries safely.
This will increase the skill base as well as help keep this hospital at international standard. Which will help it not becoming just another health center in Nigeria.

meanwhile enjoy some 042 street scenes and cruising around Enugu playlist..... grin
