But ive witnessed so much disunity going on amongst us igbos. I cant believe the amounts of hate speech etc i see on the imo thread. Its really bad, and it hurts please @spyder @cjrane etc please help. All i see is attacks being made at imo ppl. Even if rochas is seen as a "nonentity" to certain ppl, thats no reason to sprew hate on the state. Im not going to mention names but its always a paticular 2 or 3 ppl that always try to derail that thread. Same happened on the anambra thread( until lately), the abia thread, etc.

When I tried to help in the Imo state thread as I am working in Owerri on a project now, a picture I posted was judged by someone to be bad and he said something bad about it to me.. I had to stop posting anything there, no need for unnecessary issues with people.

@ bolded,
It is Chino equating all Imo people to Rochas. i often wonder why he has such hatred for our kith and kin just because Nigeria decided to call mgbidi= Imo and Uli= Anambra. Go read the history of Azia people in anambra, they are all from the same clan as Mgbidi,Ihiala and Uli.

Conversely, Abagworo is perhaps an hausa guy , at best he is from one of the south-south tribes. But he loves to pose as a guy from Imo in order to encourage Chino to attack Ndi Imo. meanwhile his true tribe is well hidden and does not get attacked by Chino. Just forget those two characters. We shall overcome all their stupidity.

The government of Enugu State led by Rt Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has flagged off the construction of new roads within the state. The government recently awarded contracts for the construction of eight roads, which are strategic in the economic and social activities in the state. Road construction and rehabilitation are considered the number one priority in the South-east where some federal roads are in total disrepair, and gully erosion has practically cut off so many communities.

The indigenes of the state were full of excitement and jubilation on Tuesday as Ugwuanyi flagged of construction work for the first set of roads. These include the 9th Mile By-Pass road, Ameke Ngwo-Nsude-9th Mile By-Pass road, Abakpa-Nike Road and Nike Lake Road. The governor has a big plan for the Ninth Mile Corner, which he considers as a long overlooked economic hub that needs to be harnessed to enjoy the full benefits of the newly acquired status as a Free Trade Zone.

His promise to give attention to it has begun to be fulfilled. His plan is to speed up urban development, create fresh economic opportunities and reduce pressure on the Enugu metropolis. The construction of the by-pass is in recognition of the location as a major transit hub linking the state to the northern parts of the country.

It is expected to ease the traffic gridlock in the area. The by-pass was first conceived by the administration of Chimaroke Nnamani but had since then been abandoned for inexplicable reasons. The importance of the by-pass cannot be over emphasised. When finished, it will divert traffic off the main express way to the various parts of Enugu State, including Eke, Afa, Mkpologu, Nsukka and even neighbouring states. The project is Ugwuanyi’s response to the persistent complaints over the dismal state of the 9th Mile road, which is a federal government road, and the threat it posed to the lives and economic activities of the people.

According to an official schedule from the office of the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Patrick Ikpenwa, the flag off exercise will continue on Thursday for the rest of the roads. These are the Opi-Nsukka Dual Carriage Road; Obechara Road Junction-Umuakashi- Mechanic Village-Ikenga Hotels Junction Road; Post Office Roundabout-Odenigbo Roundabout-Ogurugu Road-Ikenga Hotels Junction Road; Enugu Road (Nsukka) Junction-Umezedi-Nru Junction –University Gate Road and Ohum Orba Junction – Imilike Ani- Ezimo Uno-Ezimo Agu-Imilike Ogbodu Aba- Obollo Affor (Udenu Ring Road).

Some of the roads listed above are meant to open up agricultural villages and create access to link the Enugu market to the agricultural produce. The area has become quite strategic in view of the priority the governor has accorded agricultural activities in his administration. A few months ago, the communities within the Udenu area donated a large expanse of land, covering 680 hectares to the state government for commercial agriculture.

The government’s infrastructure development and investment drive for Enugu State are seen as a move that touches the people’s lives where it really pinches them most. Despite the difficult funding situation at the moment, Ugwuanyi appears quite determined to fulfil his electoral campaign promises to the people. He sees the exercise as the commencement of a new chapter of aggressive road development in Enugu State. According to an official statement, this is line with the governor’s new ethos of leadership which is completely geared towards the wellbeing of the people.

The road construction works in the state are being commissioned at the time of serious revenue crisis in the country and when state governments are experiencing untold financial strain. Both the federal and state governments are unable to maintain existing roads due to lack of funds. The ability of the governor of Enugu State to move against the general trend at this time is a clear indication of his commitment to maximise the resources at his command to provide the dividends of democracy to the people.

This is in spite of the fact that the bailout funds from the federal government are yet to reach Enugu State, according to a statement by the governor while inaugurating the construction of the Abakpa-Nike Lake road in Enugu. Both the Enugu State Executive Council and the House of Assembly authorised the state government to procure about N14.2 billion from the bailout fund through the Central Bank of Nigeria last September. According to the governor, however, “We have not received any money in the name of bailout from the federal government.” The bailout money would have taken the state a long way forward in the liquidation of outstanding salaries as well as the execution of more infrastructural projects.

To have a good road in the South-east is, indeed, a real dividend at this time when the situation has reached a point of general outcry. Just a few days ago, Most Reverend Paulinus Ezeokafor, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese in Anambra State, called on President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the contracts awarded for South-east roads by previous administrations. The bishop described the federal roads in the South-east as death-traps and demanded a probe into the award of the road contracts in the zone.

The state of the roads shows the approach in the handling of federal road maintenance and repairs in the area is undeniably faulty. The roads need urgent attention in order to save lives. Further neglect of the roads would worsen the hardship being experienced by the people, the bishop warned.

Such a high level of lamentation over the state of roads in the South-east really underscores the value the people of Enugu State place on what Ugwuanyi is doing right now. The governor made a promise in his inaugural speech to pay special attention to the development of the rural areas, where the majority of the people reside, and create more urban areas to boost the economic growth of the state. The people of Enugu State are quite impressed that he has begun to match words with action.

Besides the immediate relieve the road construction will bring to the people, the multiplier effect of the multiple road construction on the economic activities in the state can only be imagined. Hundreds of youths will be engaged directly and indirectly throughout the duration of the construction and one can imagine what such opportunity will do to the huge unemployment rate among the people. The positive effect of the supply-chain for the next 24 months in the minimum will bring succour to many families. Most important is the active engagement it will offer to the people in those locations.

To demonstrate how much they cherish the road projects, market women, school children and other well-meaning Ndi-Enugu came out in large numbers to cheer up the governor and his entourage at various points, just to echo, “We are solidly behind you and we appreciate your laudable initiatives and timely intervention, our able governor.”

GOVERNOR UGWUANYI TO PARTNER NMA TO ENHANCE HEALTH DELIVERY
The Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has expressed
satisfaction with the efforts and dedication of doctors in the state to improve healthcare delivery in the state.

Governor Ugwuanyi noted that it is the desire of Enugu state government to take the state to the next level medically, adding that his administration will partner the Nigeria Medical Association, Enugu State branch, to achieve this objective.

The association whose delegation paid the governor a courtesy visit and presented a road map for the state’s healthcare delivery programme commended the governor for the strides of his administration while he thanked  the association for working towards actualizing a medical health delivery in the state..

Earlier in an address by the association read by its chairmen, Dr. George Ugwu, the union expressed satisfaction that within the first 24 hours of assumption of office as governor that Governor Ugwuanyi visited hospitals in the state.  He added that the governor in his compassionate manner asked after the sick and the less privileged with details and keep concern.

According to Dr. Ugwu this singular gesture of the governor has stimulated the deepest instincts in all the good doctors in Enugu State who now yearn to work with the governor.

In his words, “our decision is to exploit this favourable disposition of yours for the good of our citizens in terms of better health.”

Dr. Ugwu informed the governor that the association has commissioned its technical committee as promised to develop a roadmap for improving healthcare delivery in the state.  He added that the association is proud as a body to present its well, considered inputs and ideas towards the betterment of healthcare delivery in the state.

According to him the association has emphasized the challenges in the state’s health system and suggested practical solutions.

In his words, “For instance the upgrade of some district hospitals to specialist hospitals.”

The association informed Governor Ugwuanyi that it is the only (NMA) that has no secretariat, not even a peace of land or space for an office and recreation.  He added that as the association travels
around Nigeria for meetings and programmes that it has no vehicle while its counterparts from other states come with vehicles donated by their state governments with bold inscriptions.  He added, “We want our own so that we can write it “Gburugburu doctors.”

The union thanked the governor for his timely intervention in stopping the unscrupulous actions of so called traffic regulators in the streets of Enugu. http://www.enugustate.gov.ng/category/community-dev/http://www.enugustate.gov.ng/governor-ugwuanyi-to-partner-nma-to-enhance-health-delivery/

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has identified Information Communication Technology (ICT) as a sure way for rapid development needed for alleviation of poverty, unemployment and backwardness in the society.

The governor noted that in this 21st Century, no meaningful development can take place without ICT competence, adding that such training is needed to bail the people from the clutches of poverty.

Governor Ugwuanyi made this known in an address during the commissioning of Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi ICT Centre at Agbani in Nkanu West L.G.A of Enugu State.

He expressed readiness to partner any organization, groups or individual that is committed to the empowerment of the youths through manpower training and development in the state.

The governor commended the Executive Chairman of Nkanu West, Hon Afam Okereke for establishing ICT Centre in the council, describing it as a step in the right direction to get the rural populace competent to compete with their colleagues outside the community. He also attributed such gesture by the Chairman as a complement to the agenda of the present administration.

In a remark, the Chairman of the Council, Hon Afam Okereke explained that the ICT project was geared towards getting the sons and daughters of Nkanu land computer literate thereby paving the way for rapid development in the council and beyond.

Hon Okereke described the project as a dream come true designed to acquaint every willing citizen in the council with the knowledge of ICT. He added that not less than 1,000 people will be the fisrt set to graduate by December 2015.

He stated that the Centre was named after His Excellency, Rt. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi  because of his benevolent nature to the citizens as he has recently handed over Keys of 100 units’ houses to low income earners in the state. He also commended the governor for the opportunity given to him in that capacity to serve the people of Nkanu West and promised to do more to ensure rapid development in the council.

In their separate speeches, Member representing Nkanu East/ West Federal Constituency, Hon Chukwuemeka Ujam and Member represing Nkanu West State House of Assemly, Hon Iloabuchi Aniagu and the Chairman of Traditional Rulers Council Nkanu West His Royal Highness, Igwe A.E Oruruo, praised the Chairman of the Council Hon. Afam Okereke for his exemplary style of leadership and noted that the project is the first of its kind in the recent past.

That's how an unnamed colonial park in Enugu was turned into the present "Tickles" restaurant, bar and football viewing centre around WTC .
That thing irritates my mum till this day.

Those days, entering the park was free of charge. They were plenty of cemented and wooden seats. People would buy newspapers around WTC and enter the park to read them , some have their quiet times and study their books there . There was a section with swings where kids played. Some trekkers would come to rest under the large trees and rejuvenate.
Very serene place with plenty of fresh air! But what do u have today?

Blood thirsty Jihadists are scheming again to slaughter Igbos in the North. In case they means business, one of the safe things to do is to move down to Middle-belt esp where there are are high concentration of Middlebelt Christains except TIV dominated areas. Some TIVs are sworn enemies of ndiigbo for unknown reason.

A PRESS STATEMENT
RELEASED IN KADUNA BY
NORTHERN ANTI-CORRUPTION FRONT IN RESPONSE TO THE PRO-BIAFRA PROTEST; OUR
STANDS
15/11/15
It is no longer news that the
pro-biafra agitators have
stretched their demands beyond the limit of tolerance,
as they attack innocent
citizens of Northern
extraction for a no justifiable
reason. This has started in a
similar manner in which the Biafra war started in 1967, as
well as Boko haram in 2009.
We will not in any way hence
forth tolerate this form of
rascality coming from
criminals in the name of agitation for freedom.
In as much as we seek for a
one united Nigeria, we will
not regret the secession of
Igbos from Nigeria as long as
that is what they want. We will even encourage and
support them with strategies
to succeed if their agitation is
done lawfully without
harming innocent people from
other parts of the country. We do not wish for any form
of reprisal attack by anybody
from any part of the country
hence, Igbos living in other
parts of the country, most
especially in Northern Nigeria must come out in strong
terms and disassociate
themselves from the activities
of the so called Biafrans and
the attack on Northerners, if
not, their silence will be read to be a nod to the treacherous
activities of Nnamdi Kanu and
his co-travelers.
OUR RESOLUTION
Igbo communities in the
North should as matter of immediate effect rebuke and
disassociate themselves from
their kinsmen in south-east
and south-south calling for
war and attacking innocent
northerners residing there. We call on south-east and
south-south governors,
leadership of igbo traditional

to distant themselves from
the violent and unlawful activities of this so called

disrupting the peace and

Igbo owned media outfits are advised not to promote the
activities of these criminals in
the name of Biafra in any
guise, and should immediately
initiate programs that will
help deradicalize the ignorant followers of the fraudster

We call on the federal

Our demands are to be met

The benefits of such parks are Endless. Enugu city planners are a lot better than most Nigeria city planners but they still engulfed by corruption and myopic vision.

Oga Spyder can give you an idea of how much a plot goes for, inside the city. Tho' Such lands are usually sold at cheaper rate when you get them from Government, and most time money accrued from the sale, is not captured in the state Revenue.

However, the cost of the land is not the issue here, the issue is that they shouldn't convert them to residential areas, bars or fast food centres.

If there's need to sell such land it should be to company that can develop it as Amusement/Relaxation park, just as it is in the master plan, then pay tax or certain percentage to state government.

How much is the land
