Finding how to triangulate what’s on my head but 85% of them are personal which is outside the scope of this topic.
At this point, I would only be answering questions..

Much love to everyone on this thread and their contributions.
I may not be able to attend to some questions on weekdays. But once I see a mention or tag, I will definitely respond on weekends.

Just to chip in on someone’s advice here I would create a Q&A section.

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with us. My story is very long, but I have decided that it's data science I want to venture into, after spending 10 unhappy years in medical school. Long story, I would like to be friends with you. I have decided to take my life into my hands and I'm not turning back. Data science all the way, because since secondary school days I have always loved mathematics, further maths (I have always had distinction in maths and further maths, and economics plus the pure sciences) and analysing things. My personality type is INTP, I'm a deep thinker, I think a lot and like to analyze things.

I want to do something I would enjoy doing and at the same time make enough money from it to enjoy my life.

Please can we talk on WhatsApp? My story is very interesting and I could make a movie out of my life.

I would be very grateful if you agree to mentor me, I promise not to bug you with anything irrelevant. Thanks.

Can I drop my WhatsApp number, or you can send me a mail with your WhatsApp number on nairaland29@gmail.com

Thanks
No worries send me a PM

Hi guys.

Has anyone tried integrating Power BI to a third party ERP system (one of the small local ERPs) using an API or whatever method?

Goal is to sync data on some sections of the ERP to update a BI dashboard in real time...

Can’t say much. It depends on what type of ERP you are using. It’s been ages since I touched Power BI,
However if yours is dynamic or SAP,IBM or HANA that shouldn’t be an issue.
If not, I would advice you stream the data to a better database(more like staging it) then connect to your BI

I want to become a data analyst, I got inspired by Ejiod story. Right now, I have learnt some part of excel and SPSS, try to see that I can cover in python. (08121808761 whatsap) experts pls assist a brother, sometimes I feel lost but found. But I will thrive till I achieve it
You need to ask yourself what you need to do.
My advice is for you to get your feet wet on SQL.
Building fancy visuals with BI tools like Tableau or PowerBi is not Data Analysis.
You need to understand logic around crunching the data for insight.

Congratulations brother.
Quick question- do I need a special spec of laptop like core I5, I7 to work effectively in data analysis. Or will just any spec of laptop do?
Thanks
Any spec,
These days, things are in the cloud and you can run any heavy computing task from the “sky”

To be sincere, this new opportunity was a great one for me.
The journey started Q2 of this year. All I can say is His Grace propelled me beyond my thinking.
Though it hasn't been that easy especially when you consider some factors. Aside from that, I was doing fine.

Rewind--->>

Back then in Nigeria, I worked as an analyst, my last experience really shaped my skillset, especially SQL. No one will tell you this.
SQL currently remains the number 1 skill any data professional should have. Then in my previous company, we had like 5 analysts, each writing SQL queries that are always complex and from that output making use of BI tools or python to analyze and present the result. It was a great collaboration.
From the growth I had, a series of thoughts started lingering if I should switch to data engineering since I already had good background knowledge in SQL, databases, and python. I just had to shelve it.

Fast foward>>>

The fact is that everyone has been applying to international countries and has been getting regret mail. I have been there too.
In May I applied for a position. The 1st stage was a code challenge/analytics questions to test my skills. After passing the stage, I had 3 extra interviews( technical, non-technical, and work culture fit test).

Mid-July, I got a mail that I was successful and that the immigration agency would reach out to me.
Omoooo, thats how I jumped up oooo. I can't remember how many times I jumped. It was a big moment for me. If someone had earlier told me I was going to the UK this year I would just laughed at the person.
Ending of july, that's how I got a mail from the company processing the immigration to enter my details. They got me my certificate of sponsorship in 2 weeks. The visa type is a skilled worker hence the need to get the sponsorship certificate.
During the process, I had to get Medium of instruction, BSc certificate/transcript which puts me on level C1 of English proficiency.
Early September, I applied for the Visa(Priority) which came out in a week.
The biggest jump I had this year was when I got a call from DHL that someone is waiting outside. I already knew it was my passport. Getting downstairs, I saw the man. He gave me the parcel, that's how I quickly climb upstairs and opened the door. The next move was opening the package. As I opened my passport, it automatically opened in the middle and I saw the visa stamp. That's how I jumped up oo, I was jumping like a child.

....still writing..

Check Wakanow. That where I bought Qatar ticket for 217k and on Friday for mid October

Klm doesn't need covid test, no airline requires that. The problem with Klm is transit visa for Nigerians

Why not save yourself the stress of transit visas and look for airlines or airports without transit visas, like Kenya, Turkish,Rwanda, Qatar,Egypt Air, Emirates.

Yesterday, I checked Virgin from Abuja for 23rd of September, it was not up to N900k.
please which URL link are you looking at because the last time I checked it was $4500
Omoooo Qatar air looks fully booked

@Ejiod and other gurus in the house.
Please I need your advise...

I don't have a computer science/statistics/Mathematics background at undergraduate level.

I studied Accounting and Finance(2:1) and also a chartered certified Accountant(ACA, ACCA, ACMA, CGMA).

I have a very strong passion for data science which is driving me crazy, this made me apply for an MSc in Data Science and Analytics.

I just secured an admission(MSc) in Teesside University, Middlesbrough, UK (commencing Jan 2022).

But now I'm beginning to develop cold feet as to whether I can do it considering the fact I have I have no prior computer or programming knowledge and I'm getting a tad worried.

What do you advise?
Can I study it at MSc level without prior computer/programming/mathematics knowledge at undergraduate level?? (Though, if there's something I know about myself, its the fact that I'm smart, and can learn).

Please I need your input/insight on this.

PS:
Pardon me if this issue has been addressed before, I just stumbled on this thread tonight, and I've followed through to page8, and didn't come across such.
Must have skipped this… my bad.
My advice is you pursue MBA..
it’s way higher and gives you more edge

Boss what's your reason for choosing postgreSql specifically?
Writing complex queries. PostgreSQL support writing queries beyond MySQL.
You wanna ball with the big boys in running common table expressions and advanced window functions then you would need postgreSQL.
MySQL is good but not robust as postgreSQL.
Many companies are already on this type of DB.
All the firms I’ve worked plus the present all use PostgreSQL.
I started with MySQL but when it comes to running CTEs, Window functions PostgreSQL is the king. Even sqlserver ain’t close

Threw a post on Twitter yesterday on a group. Will repost here.

“””Anyone trying to scale up their SQL queries should visit Dune analytics or footprint analytics. You get tons of data to query.”””

You learn by practicing and writing scripts.

Just dropping this guide for anyone who want this path.
70% of what you need for data analytics is SQL!
Infact pattern your SQL to postgreSQL.
The rest can be other skills.
For Data scientist you need python as you bread & tea.
Doing data visualization is NOT data analytics!!

Being Self independent and United is not the same in marriage. Remember, two agree to become one. Which means self is sacrificed on the altar of marriage. Being married and putting You first will only create problems in the marriage. You can't be independent and married at the same time.
So, OP, choose your poison wisely.
Thanks man…choosing the right poison is the case

Been wrapping my head around the union called marriage especially the cons & pro.
Love my independent life but long to be United. Looks like a tug of war between two worlds.
Just thinking who has been in this position before getting married and how’s life after marriage.
