Among the communities that were devastated by flooding in Anambra State is Umuoba Anam. This community is in Anambra East local government area of the state. Houses were completely swallowed by the flooding. The scene was shocking and traumatic.

A secondary school teacher in Imo state, Sunday Nwafor, has received nine cups of beans and two tubers of yam as award for being selected as the best teacher by his students.

Nwafor who also has a private lesson center was recognized for exceptional dedication to duty after graduating students of the school where he works who all passed their West African Examination Council (WAEC) exam singled him out as their best teacher.

He received Agricultural items such as nine cups of beans, two tubers of yam, and a bottle of red oil, including an envelope with undisclosed amount, as gifts for his hard work.

The award was given to him in Owerri, on Monday, August 15, by TourGecko TV, an educational vlog which also provides content on travels and tours.

Founder of the platform, Dr. Chinenye Nwabueze said he decided to recognize Nwafor the best way he could so as to encourage him to keep on the good work he was doing.

Nwabueze who was also a teacher for many years before leaving the profession, lamented that teachers at primary and secondary school levels were not given the recognition they deserved despite the tasking nature of their work.

He added that the bulk of shaping of the individual takes place at these levels and teachers needed to be rewarded for good work.

According to him: “It is not about the items we gave as gift but all about recognizing good work. Just like Louis Nwafor, there are many teachers who are doing great works training our kids but they don’t get recognized. I said instead of leaving this young man like that, let me do something to show him we appreciate his good work. This man does not only teach students but he goes the extra mile to follow up their studies, give them extra lessons and encourage them to do well. Graduating students the private school where he works all passed their WAEC exam. Though this is a result of joint effort by the entire teachers, Louis was singled out by the graduating students themselves as their best teacher. This award is a private affair of TourGecko TV and has nothing to do with the school where he teaches. We have been doing this on our own for a while, privately recognizing teachers who were going the extra mile in their schools to train their students.”

Reacting to the award, Nwafor thanked TourGecko TV for recognizing his efforts, adding that his students also deserved commendation because they worked hard to pass their exams too.

He said this award has encouraged him to even do more for his students and promised to remain dedicated to his work.

The leadership of Movement for Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND has reacted to the unlawful arrest of the member representing Degema-Bonny Federal constituency and an aspirant for Rivers Governorship, Hon. Farrah Dagogo, alleging that Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike is behind the unlawful arrest.

While calling on the National leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to call Wike to order, MEND is demanding the immediate release of Dagogo, insisting that his arrest is a political witch hunt by Gov. Wike who believes that Dagogo poses a threat to his choice of successor as governor in 2023.

In a release on Wednesday, MEND says Hon. Dagogo is a good son of Niger Delta and has committed so much to the uplifting of the people of Niger Delta before his entry into politics.

MEND said contrary to allegations by Gov. Wike that Hon. Dagogo launched an attack and caused crisis at the screening venue of National Assembly aspirants in Port Harcourt, there is nothing to show that an attack was carried out.

MEND notes that police had arrived the venue of the screening to arrest some men who were engaged in peaceful protest. Out of the 19 persons arrested, four according to MEND were released because they belong to the camp of anointed aspirant of Gov Wike.

Qatar Ambassador Ali Al-Hajri Endorses Campaign Against Drug; To Speak At Youth Conference

The Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Nigeria, HE Dr. Ali Ghanem Al-Hajri has endorsed the Nationwide Campaign Against Drug Abuse in Nigeria which was flagged off few months ago by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. He made the endorsement on the 20th of January 2022 while receiving a joint delegation from the Center for Ethical Rebirth Amongst Nigeria Youth(CERANY) and the National Alliance Against Drug Abuse(NAADA).

According to the statement which was released and signed by Ms. Adaeze Ezissi, the Programme Coordinator of CERANY, the Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Nigeria will speak at the forthcoming 2022 National Youth Conference on Drug Abuse. The Conference is organised to commemorate the 2022 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in Nigeria.

Amb. Dr. Al-Hajri endorsed the Campaign after receiving a Platinum Medal of Honour from the joint delegation of CERANY and NAADA. According to the statement, the honour by the joint delegation was in appreciation of the efforts made by the State of Qatar in Nigeria. Over the years the State of Qatar has been supportive through her efforts in the UNODC anti-drug, anticrime and anti-terrorism programs in Nigeria.

Although the vibrant and proactive Ambassador had also thanked the joint delegation as he encouraged their voluntary contributions towards complimenting the efforts by the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Few months ago, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) flaggedoff the Nationwide Campaign Against Drug Abuse and since then several institutions and individuals have continue to make development efforts to support the campaign which is already making huge impacts.

World Cancer Day: Aisha Buhari to Attend OCI Foundation's Anti Cancer Health Campaign In Abuja Next Week.

As the world marks 2022 International Day of Cancer, First Lady, Aisha Buhari will next week attend the national flag off of the Arm Our Youths (ArOY) anti-cancer health campaign organised by a non-governmental organisation, Onyebuchi Chris Ifediora, OCI Foundation in Abuja.

The campaign which is slated to take place on February 3, 2022 at NAF Conference Centre Abuja is in conjunction with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). It also coincided with the 2022 World Cancer Day.

Speaking with our correspondent on Wednesday in Abuja, the Founder/President OCI Foundation, Associate Professor Chris O. Ifediora said the First Lady had confirmed her presence when she played host to leadership of the Foundation in Abuja on Tuesday.
Ifediora who led to delegation noted that the visit to the First Lady was part of the pre-event engagements with stakeholders to keep them abreast with what the Foundation has lined up for the D-day.

Also visited during the pre-event engagements by the leadership of the Foundation was the Director General of Nigeria Television Authority, NTA Yakubu Mohammed.
Associate Prof. Ifediora will be the Chief Host of the February events on 1st and 3rd cancer sensitization campaign while Mr. Samuel Agwa is the chairman of the Local Organising Committee.

Also, the Director of Gynocular Service, Dr. Famita Anga will be in attendance.
Earlier, Associate Prof. Ifediora expressed gratitude to Nigerian Cancer Society (NCS) for formally including the gynocular and flag-off of ArOY health programmes on the schedule of activities marking the 2022 cancer day celebration in Nigeria.

He also commended the President NCS, Dr Adamu for his doggedness and commitment in lending support to the OCI Foundation.
Associate Prof Ifediora also applauded the humility of the NCS President, particularly for accepting to be part of the LOC for the OCI Foundation health campaign next week.
Meanwhile Ifediora has enjoined staff and volunteers of the OCI Foundation to endeavour to participate at all NCS and NCS partners' programmes and activities.
