My brother, I have pictures of more developments today in Enugu. Can you guess which new roads they are fixing so?
Is this the road that leads into Emene?

Sure, from the airport junction into Emene, I think the road will pass Orie Emene and enter Eke Obinagu Express.

I visited somebody in Emene on Monday. The road was terrible (around Orie Emene). The sooner they fix it, the better.

They are already fixing it, I just wish they can dualize the road to avoid further go slow in the future, as Emene grows bigger to welcome the international airport. These people should think into the future!

One time, a guy on this thread was all out against Chime for not having done that road. He claimed Chime only did the Airport bypass road to give value to his estate at Ugbo Chime... I'm sure that guy now thinks differently. cheesy

After service this Sunday, we decided to go out and see Enugu. Since my kids are afraid of heights, I decided we go climbing the Coal camp pedestrian bridge.

Whoever decided to make life easier for the residents of coal camp by building this bridge to allow them go to Ogbete main market is a genius. This bridge made life a lot easier for them.

The straight bridge over the road is not supported by hand rails or protection, it is blocked from passage so you only have to climb the steps from the ground up, not across the foot bridge.

No need to go enroll in the Gym and pay money. Good exercise. smiley
They need hand railings on those steepy scary stairs though.

Nice to see these pics. For 3 years, going through that route daily, from UNTH old site to Ituku was crazy! The road was worse than hell. Yet, see how clean the road is now, constructed to class without even a single noise from the governor or his aides. Sullivan is really a man for the people.

After climbing that stair my joy for the brigde evaporated. I didn't like the fact that people were allowed to be using it without hand rail. The stair directly facing the bridge was not properly done. if you are climbing it, it will be pushing you backward. If you are going down, you need extra care in order not to roll over. It is quite scary. I wonder what they are waiting for, before they fix hand rail there. It is not safe to allow people to continue using that stair without hand rail. I guess they are waiting for a life to be lost before they do something. When you cross the bridge, coming from Ogbete, the stair on the left hand side of the hill is better than that facing the bridge directly. You fill safe and at ease climbing it. Please Sullivan should not leave office without fixing those hand rails because I am not the next governor would bother to do it.

While all attention is focused on the International terminal building, other technical issues which will present challenges to the airport functioning as an Intl. airport has been conveniently dropped from the table.

When will they make the runway at Enugu to reach 3.5KM to take bigger planes? I just wonder if they are ever going to link the taxiway between the International and domestic terminal and extend it to at least one end of the runway, so that planes aren't dangerously using the only runway available to taxi to the end of the runway before takeoff and make a U-turn on the runway after landing.

Oga Spyder,
No updates and pictures this weekend? grin

I wish i could meet Sullivan Chime to thank him for his uncommon transformation of Enugu, in spite of having about the most tiny state budget in Nigeria. It speaks a lot of his great managerial acumen and determination to re-position his state for the future. Today, tourists, quality investors now consider Enugu because it is clean, orderly, modern and not associated with the chaos & high crime rate of a typical Nigerian city.

I would also beg Gov. Chime to hire two or three people as landscapers and give them pictures in this thread, a pickup van to carry their tools and charge them with planting flowers and trees along all Enugu roads including along the newly dualized Abakaliki road, Naira triangle and airport road flyover.

Chime Avenue with a wide median should look like the median in the picture below.
The centenary rails should be used to fence off sections of it, so that designated gaps in the median are left for pedestrians to cross over the road without walking over the entire flowers if they were not fenced off.

Just getting the Chime avenue median beautified to look like the picture below, is the equivalent effect of 20 tall high-rise buildings along that avenue! Yet, it is cheaper and environmentally sound in the task of transforming the ambiance of Enugu.
Roads with wide medians present rare opportunities for a city to make a statement about it's beauty to those driving along such roads.

[size=15pt]Come to think of it, it may not cost up to N200,000 naira to pay horticulturists to plant aesthetic flowers and trees along the median of Chime avenue to reproduce the likeness in the picture. If our amiable governor is listening as some of you have alluded, please make Chime avenue median look like the median in the picture!

This will truly be a spectacular feat for Enugu to have a major road like Chime avenue resemble an "oyibo" man's road. Gov. Chime please give this to us as your parting gift to crown your legendary transformation of the coal city.

That pedestrian bridge is a nightmare and disappointment. It needs hand rails, nobody should feel like thet are risking life and limb just to talk from point a to B
