You misunderstood the route.
If you are travelling to USA or UK from Enugu, you fly from Enugu - Addis Ababa and then from there you are flown to Washington Dulles airport. In Washington, you board a plane by United Airlines to your final city in Texas, Georgia, Chicago, New York or any city in America.

If you are travelling to America from Mali, Gambia, Togo or Burkina faso etc, ASKY partner airlines will fly you to Lome Togo. From Lome, you will fly Ethiopian airline to Newark international airport, New Jersey. From New Jersey, you enter Ethiopian american partners (United airlines) for flight to your final destination city from Newark intl.

So it is not the same plane flying to Washigton Dulles that is flying to Newark intl. The way to understand it is that there is Ethiopian airline flying to Kano airport, Kaduna airport, Abuja airport. These are separate planes on these routes. It is not one plane that lands in Enugu and then goes to Lagos, then to Abuja and then to Kano and then to Kaduna before leaving Nigeria.

The Lome - Newark route is served by a separate plane while the Enugu-Addis Ababa - Washington DC is served by another separate plane.

Do you mean that there isn't any flight going from Addis Ababa to Lome?

Btw, what about the Lagos route?

There is a flight from Lome to Newark. (For small west African countries or cities as Monrovia, Freetown, Dakar, Banjul, Gambia etc connected to Lome by ASKY airlines). BTW, some Lagos bound passengers prefer this route because they land in Lome and flown to Lagos via ASKY airline partners.

There is a flight from Addis Ababa - Washigton DC (For Enugu and other Nigerian passengers on ET)

These wicked people are still diverting Enugu flights to Lagos!

Didn't they say their runway "repair" was going to last from 22nd of december to 27th december 2017 and only after 3:00pm?

This is now January , 2018 and they are still diverting Enugu bound flights to Lagos and not even Port Harcourt as they stated in the announcement?

So, how will the passengers get to Enugu if they were not told they will be going to Lagos until the last minute?

If they really wanted to do any good at the airport, they would complete the abandoned taxiway.

Akanu Ibiam International airport, Enugu remains the ONLY international airport in Nigeria without a taxiway and they deliberately left it like that. All other Intl. airports in Kano, Kaduna, Port harcourt,Abuja, Lagos airport all have taxiways EXCEPT Enugu intl.

They claimed a taxiway was part of the upgrade they paid for. Yet, they won't arrest the contractor to finish it, nor award it. So it's obvious they don't want anything to develop the capacity of the airport to function properly as international airport to be implemented.
They should complete the abandoned taxiway and leave the good runway alone.

The biggest setback for US-ENU flight is the total time of travel. The layover duration at Addis-Ababa airport is too much. I wonder who will waste 12hrs layover in Ethiopia. The same goes for Virgin Atlantic. They have almost 24hrs layover in London in LOS-LAX itinerary. Ethiopian airline is competing with Turkish airline on which will waste passengers' time on unnecessary layover hours. But Air France, KLM, Delta will get you to your destination with minimal layover hours. That means a lot. It seems that people on the East coast have better luck with Ethiopian airline.

That’s true. For those of us from Canada, most times Ethiopian airlines is just not a feasible choice. With the amount of time spent for layovers. Most flights to get to Nigeria take over 24 hours. Some even greater than 48 hours. And to be very honest their pricing is not competitive.

No airline has been able to beat KLM’s prices for me. Flying in to Enugu would be the best case scenario for my family, but Ethiopian airlines just doesn’t have the best deals available. I’d rather land in port harcourt and drive the rest of the way home. Lots of savings to be made that way

Whether you fly KIM or you fly British air, you must be smart with day of flying.

Ethiopian airlines fly only 3 days (Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday) into Enugu . You must plan to begin your journey on Monday or Wednesday or Friday to avoid long layover

If you are traveling to a place where there are 3 flights / week, you MUST plan to travel on Monday, on Wednesday and on Friday.

If you travel on the wrong days, you will definitely have long layovers because if you land in Addis Ababa on a Sunday, you have to stay in a hotel until Tuesday when the first flight to Enugu for the week leave Addis Ababa.

So igbos are supposed to go out of their way abroad to research how Ethiopian airlines operates to fit them into thier schedule?

Other airlines operate on a schedule that is able to acommodate most people and their traveling habits with competitive prices.

The goal is to enter Nigeria to visit family. Not to bend over backwards to meet anybody’s agenda. If KLM, British airways, Air France etc has routes available that make it easy for the customer to get to Nigeria, Ethiopian airlines can go to hell.

I’m not planning my trip around an airline. There is a date I want to go home and I pick the airline that can get me there at a competitive price without much burden on me. Simple

The type of news emanating from south east is disheartening. I have said it before that our governors are very dumb.
Just read the reactions of Ebonyi state governor ( the chairman of southeast governors forum ) concerning the herdsmen

www.nairaland.com/4339628/umahi-authorizes-creation-cattle-grazing

He directed the people to donate their personal land to the herdsmen:

He urged the traditional rulers and other concerned authorities to
agree on grazing locations with the herdsmen where they would be
restricted for their grazing activities.

He even promised to provide amenities for the herdsmen and their cattle:

“I will provide amenities such as water in such locations because
the state government does not have the resources for ranching"

Just when we think these men are getting sense, they ll just pull a dumb move. How many states will donate free lands to southeasterner to run their private business?

It wont be long before our governor ll do same. Last time the herdsmen killed our people he went to abuja and was shining his teeth with the president.

If we must progress, the southeastern governors must come together and fight towards massive industrial and infrastructural development. We must be united with one goal - development. Not when one state is rejecting open grazing, another is accepting them with open arms; one is fighting for restructuring, while the other is against it.
The human capital flight in southeast adigo too much, and development ll be very slow if this continues. The first step towards improving our human development index is by not voting dumb governors.

Would you rather he banned it outright? Because I don't see anything wrong here, he's asking for a database of all the herders, and is ensuring they don't come into conflict with anyone in the state. They won't own any land nor will their presence bother anyone, providing they stick to those designated areas. When those areas are required, for development then I'd imagine the herders would be forced to move.

Let me dispassionately analyse your comments.
First, he asked for a database. Now, be sincere. Do you actually believe whatever database he would get will be anywhere near the actual statistics of Fulani herdsmen in the state?
For a people who are always on the move, who are illiterates, who don't have usable identification, who many of their counterparts are non Nigerians, and who would regard with utmost suspicion whatever action any authority that is non Fulani brings, and try to evade it.... That, my friend, is an exercise in futility.

Umahi doesn't have the database of roadside vulcanisers in his state (which is a more verifiable feat) much less that of itinerant herdsmen who now believe they shouldn't answer to anyone other than Miyetti Allah.

Second, what makes you think they will isolate themselves strictly to the area allotted for grazing? Once the grasses have been consumed, can you bet your next paycheck they won't casually stroll with their cattle into adjoining lands?

Umahi said anyone who kills their cow would be made to pay double. But if the herdsmen destroy anyone's farm, the herdsmen would be "severely warned!" grin
Can you beat that?
What herdsman is going to break a sweat because Umahi warned him? Same governor wants to doubly punish his own people, but will only warn the aliens whenever conflicts arise. What sort of disparity is that?

When you see a potential source of trouble, the best move is to prevent it. Giving them lands to graze on is asking for trouble. Because they would take it that their activity has been backed by a form of legal authority. Asking them to vacate that land when they default would be the beginning of trouble. That's partly what led to the Agatu massacre. Umahi can't even provide lands free of charge for mechanised farms to his people. Give these folks an inch, and they would ask for a mile.

Seem even you have never learnt any lesson from history. You don't act politically correct to a people who don't practice your own sort of politics.

The herdsmen have representatives in the area, so yea, I do think such a database would be accurate. The rest of what you wrote is conjecture, I seriously doubt that many, if any of the Fulani in Biafra land are non-Nigerian.

The state isn't giving them land, they're simply choosing not to outlaw their activities. So as long as what they do is legal in the state, an arrangement must be made, which will see to the prevention of any potential conflicts in the future.

Ethiopian airlines is not a competitive airline for those of us in Canada.

I flew klm when I visited last year. And this year again I’m flying klm because of the long layover.

It’s a sad day when because someone doesn’t agree with you, you resort to calling me a traitor and afonja hell bent on destroying igbos.

I’m a proud igbo person. Who doesn’t find Ethiopian airlines compatible for ME. My goal is to enter Nigeria. Not fly Ethiopian airlines.

I’m sorry you weren’t able to see that in my comments.

I hope one day you can relax and stop abusing people who don’t do things the way you do. All your abusive words is counter-productive.

What exactly have I done or said to you that will make you believe I’m plotting against my own people.

Even in my earlier comment I stated im landing in port and driving the rest of the way to anambra. What is wrong in that? I discussed my own difficuties with the airline. I never once said anything against igbos in general.

Yes, because it's an expression that could mean anything, warning...in what way, and how will a warning redress the issue? If I was governor I'd ban cattle grazing outright; but that's not what is being done here. Again, if he's not going to ban the practice, then he has to work out some kind of way of co-existing with them, which is what he's trying to do.

He's not giving them land, he's simply saying "go over there, and don't bother anyone, and we'll ensure none of our people bother you". That's the position he's taken, whether or not I agree with it is irrelevant.

Abeg, who cares?
Please park well, nobody cares if you British airways or South Korea airlines.

If you check well, the same guy is even typing this post from Ojuelegba and has never been outside of Lagos, yet they always feel the need to "Advise" others better than them.
