Politics › Re: Fani-Kayode: Yorubas Won The Civil War For Nigeria by 2mch(m): 4:58pm On Aug 15, 2012
Katsumoto: The Biafrans on Nairaland are a joke.

Can't respond to simple challenges

Hate Yoruba folks, call them names; laugh at Yorubaland displaying pictures of ancient but dilapitated cities but still continue to troop to the west like Isrealis looking for the promised land. If you hate Yoruba folks so much, why don't you avoid it like a plague? There are airports and seaports in the East.

Believe that Max Siollun and Nowa Omoigui are hack writers/historians but Femi Fani-Kayode, a junkie, is a credible historian.

Believe that Awo made a pact with them but can't point to where and when that pact was made.

Don't understand the use of conditional clauses

They seized on Fani-Kayode's write-up without requesting evidence but as soon as Kats presents evidence of Biafran tomfoolery in war, Ojukwu charging landing fees to charities delivering free food to starving Biafrans, and questions the noisy and boastful Biafrans about their perceived bravery, they resort to emotional blackmail, crying like little biatches, insults.

Well I got news for you folks, I am not here to make friends; I am here to set the records straight. You are free to carry on with the distracting tactics and irrelevant points.

If dont start something, there aint going to be nothing.
grin grin grin grin.

Forgive them. They are kids. Do you know how much propaganda and remote control is required to send all your people on a suicide mission, without elder's questioning a spoilt rich kid? It will take years to desensitize them, and have them face the truth. It is easier to live in denial emotionally, psychologically, and egotistically . grin

Mind you i've never been to the US in my life. Why don't i feel anything when the national anthem of Nigeria is being played? Even the South African anthem moves me.
LMAO! Why not ask for visa or refugee status? Why will it not move you. Long throat like you. You want better thing, but will rather spoil Nigeria than seek those things in Nigeria.

mystikal: Really?
Yes. Go to NY, Chicago and all the big cities in America. Walmart is in the suburbs. Away from small businesses. Small businesses are the backbone of any economy. And most economy's come out of these big cities. Those big chains kill jobs and businesses. This is a fact. See for yourself. Plus they have to be heavily regulated because they will do anything for a profit. So the job the government is running away from, is still the job they will have to do to protect Nigerians. This job could have been done on indigenous business owners. Not everything foreign is best. Walmart is crap.

You are the foolish one. Have you ever been to Jumat? Have you ever entered a mosque? Dont come here and shout if you havent because you will never and you are a hypocrite. The witch hunt is only exposing a desperation. Nothing dey happen. The guy didnt act out of character.

What of the Nigerians tortured and killed in Libya. Did the senate even hold a hearing about it? Did we hear the president place sanctions on Libya? With your thought process the president should also resign then. abi? So how come this has become such a big issue. Very suspicious story by the way. grin grin grin cheesy. obowunmi: My brother, Yes I read it. Although I am less inclined to take it seriously because of the English. Where is the proof that the person he sent actually attend the event.

There are two sides to the story and the truth. Unfortunately, this will die in the court of public opinion. Would we ever know the truth, the facts??
That is what i am asking the OP for proof. He brought the allegation, the guy has denied it. So the burden of proof is on him. We dont know them, neither do we know the relationship between the two parties. No one should just come and write tales without proof. That is dangerous.

obowunmi: From what I read, sounds like "no one" representing the consul attend the event, nor did any representative make an attempt to "visit" the families.

If he had been more proactive in his communication with them, he might be fine.

He doesn't just need a secretary. He needs a communications director or a public affairs person.
Did you take the time to read the consul's response? Did you even see it? It is on this thread. Read it first and then come back and comment. He gave a name of the rep he sent.
Politics › Re: Reasons Why ACN And CPC Alliance Will Fail by 2mch(m): 3:28pm On Aug 15, 2012
Idokojimmy: It is no longer news that some opposition Parties are working assiduously to see how they can dislodge PDP from power. Notable figures here include ACN and CPC. Recently, these parties reportedly held a meeting in Ghana, to fine tune the merger talk. But will the alliance work? If you ask me, I'll say their chances are slim. For instance,

1. They are yet to agree on a unified Party name. While some are suggesting ACTION CONGRESS ALLIANCE, some say it should be called CONGRESS FOR PROGRESSIVE ALLIANCE. Both parties want to dominate in the alliance.

2. Who will be the major financier of the party? Will the major contributor allow others to have a say?

3. They took the merger talk to Ghana, knowing quite well that Ghana doesn't support Nigeria. Aburi Accord held in Ghana didn't work, this may not work too.

4. The proposed Candidates to fly their flag are not sellable. Possible figures include ATIKU, BUHARI, BAKARE, ELRUFAI, AND TINUBU.

5. Lastly, the Northerners don't trust TINUBU, remember that he abandoned Ribadu when he needed them most. Can he be trusted now? Also, the Westerners have continuously asked, what is their place in the new order? In your opinion, will this merger/ alliance work?
Ok we have heard your part. Now it is up to Nigerian's and the alliance to prove you wrong. Right? Atiku is PDP By the way. A lot of conjecture and fear in your post. We live in a democratic environment. Every Nigerian, if qualified can run for office. The office of the president is fair game.

obowunmi: 2mch I don't think this is a witch hunt. When you deal with Nigerians, you must play some serious politics and tell all kinds of lies. He spoke anyhow, and when you speak anyhow to someone that is hurting....it never turns out well.

Goodluck to Habibu...weak response by the way. He needs to work on his english.
All i asked was for proof. If the OP has no proof he said all these things, then the whole post is a witch-hunt. You dont come and post damaging things about people like that. It may be you another day. The guy has written a response. Why not investigate that? Why all the insults to the guy? When 95% of Christians in Nigeria will not do the same? Nigerian's like to force themselves on people too much. That is my opinion anyway. The guy has responded and has proof that he acted according to and within his capacity. The burden of proof is on the OP. Just like Farouk Lawan would have gotten away if Otedola didnt have proof. The time of spreading lies and rumors is gone. People now think clearly.

passionate88: I know in Nairaland I've seen nd read on many topics where clergy men visited mosques and even fasted with muslims but can u honestly say the same of any imam or alfa that can do same let's say on lent, easter, christmas or the new year?...
The problem i foresaw on this thread was that Nigerian's will try to force their beliefs on the guy, and try to tell him how he MUST live his life. Would you like it if you were being forced to do things that were against your personal belief? I am christian but have muslim family members. Much as i respect them and love them, i will not enter a mosque or a babalawo's shrine just to prove a point to anyone. As long as i dont use my beliefs in a detrimental away, i should be free to practice how i want. Muslim or Christian. Thats all. I wasnt quick to comment initially on the story because it seemed quite funny. I was waiting for the rebuttal, that i why i asked the OP for Proof. Why take one man's word and start insulting someone when you have not heard from the other? We have ot be objective. This witch-hunt is ridiculous. There is even no evidence that he was told it will not be at a church. I know there would have been a church service for the victims, and everything would have leaned towards a religious angle heavily. So i can write a story on NL with no proof damaging you, and you will not be disappointed if NLers took it as fact, before hearing your side?

van bonattel: Historically, yorubas are cowards and as such bad coupists, what does Diya, MKO, Olarewaju and banjo have in common? Anybody?
They didn't kill 3million of their own people. They faced life and death head on, instead of escaping dressed like a woman to another country. They didn't out of greed cause failed coups and death traps for their people. They fostered political will of their people, and did not let their people become slaves in Nigeria out of greed. They didn't put their people in the position where they were humiliated and debased. Or have to dress their sons up as women to avoid caputre by their own tribe into the Biafran army. I hope I answered all your questions.

By the way why should jonathan start start sending letters when its the obvisious job of the consul? Are u that stuupid?

If Gej start sending letter to every dead people abroad will he have time for other national issues? And what will be the work of the Nigeria consul if GEJ start doing his job for him
Jonathan is the president of Nigeria, elected and employed by Nigerians. He is an employee and not a father. He can be sacked anytime by Nigerians. Can you sack your father from his position in the family? If you are looking for a father figure then you are on your own. Nigeria and their consuls have never cared, so it is not today. Countless Nigerian's are killed everyday and the president nor any consul says jack. Other country's presidents would have sent a letter of condolence through the consul directly. The guy claims he sent a representative who is a living being. He provided a name so it can be easily verified.

He should have gone and visit the family and Co or even a letter and representative. Mohammed spoke of compassion so being a Muslim is not does not mean you can not go to a church
Why did you mention my name? If you took the time to read from the first page I said a rep or letter would have been good enough. Is it by force to enter church or mosque service? Most nigerian christians will never enter a mosque and vice versa. Abi na fasting dey do you?

Obinoscopy: My history might be a bit rusty. But I think he was killed because of an attempted coup and an attempt on the life of Ojukwu. Also Col. Banjo was seen as a traitor. His stopping at Ore during the SouthWest incursion by his men casted doubt on the Biafran Military on his loyalty.
So you agree he was sent to kill his own people. So why have people been embelishing history to try to convince people on NL that some saviors were coming to save the SW. He was a fool. He knew his whole family would have been wiped out. He failed and still went back. Of course they will claim that there was an attempt at a coup. But it is glaring what the reson was. What coup could a Yoruba man forge in the midst of easterner's. Doesn't seem logical. Truths are being revealed.

smile11s: RELIGIOUS BIGOT, I AM NOT!
BY
HABIB BABA HABU,
CONSUL GENERAL OF NIGERIA, NEW YORK

My attention was drawn to an article written by Mr. Chika Onyeani in his weekly online newspaper “The African Sun Time” of August 14, 2012, on the unfortunate accident of 21st July, 2012, which claimed the lives of five Nigerians and left some wounded. My prayers go to the families of those who lost their loved ones. May the Almighty accept them unto His keeping and grant their families fortitude to bear this irreparable sad loss. May God also quicken the recovery of the wounded ones and provide their families succor.

I wish to place on record the fact that Mr. Onyeani tried to contact me while I was attending the Road Show on Aviation hosted by the Honourable Minister of Aviation. At the end of the Road show, I called him. He pointed out the complaints, for which I told him that I received an invitation letter for the church service of Friday, 10th August, 2012. I told Mr. Onyeani that since it was a church service, I wouldn’t know what to do during the service as a Muslim. I have never attended a church service. However, I sent one of the most senior staff of the Consulate General, who incidentally, is an Igbo man and a Catholic, to represent me and the Consulate General.

I wish to point out, for the avoidance of doubt, that since my arrival in New York, I have had the pleasure of attending meetings, dedications, baptismal in churches not only in New York but in other states under the Jurisdiction of the Consulate General. I never ever told Mr. Onyeani that “I can never enter a Church”. I have had the pleasure, both in Nigeria and USA, of joing my friends in all their events held in churches. But I have never attended a church service. This statement can be checked with the leadership of the Organisation for the Advancement of Nigerians, (Organisers of New York Parade) and others whom I have had the pleasure of joining in their events organized in various churches. I have never been, and will never be, a Religious bigot. Anybody that had ever had any direct contact with me will vouch for me on this.

In conclusion, I wish, once again, to state I never ever told Mr. Onyeani that “I can never enter a Church”. I am proud of being a Muslim but it has never ever clouded my judgment of other Religions or people of Religion. Like most Nigerians, I was born into a Religion and grew up to love and appreciate it. If I had been born by Christian parents, I would have grown up being a Christian. Almost all Nigerians were born into a Religion which they adhere to and love. I don’t think Mr. Onyeani whom I had been treating as an elder brother and adviser would descend to the level of insinuating my being a Religious bigot.
He has responded. Well, that write up looked very accusatory. With politicians its better to have proof, otherwise they will make life very difficult for you. The writeup seemed a bit exaggerated. And truly regardless of position, if there are religious or cultural restraints, people cannot be forced to do things. This is why I said a representative or a letter will suffice. It seems he did just that with a credible person. Maybe the person decided not to show up, not thinking it will cause so much media hype.

Dual citizenship for people that hold Nigerian passports by descent, and only for entry into the country. They are truly American and should seek solace from their country. A dual citizen cannot be president. And most of the kids know next to nothing about Nigeria except at these meetings. Where you are born and where you have sworn fealty to is where you should seek allegiance. If their was trouble in Nigeria, will they remember they are Nigerians?

aryzgreat: My guy they are not Americans, they are Nigerians resident in America. The accident was a tragedy sort of cos it involved a family travelling in an SUV and their death was widely reported over the media, for a "father figure" to show non-challant attitude to fellow citizens he is expected to attend to diplomatically is the height if his insensitivity, he neither visited the survivors in the hospital nor send them a recovery prayer, lets forget about attending funeral for the dead, his utterance about being a muslim and cannot enter a church could been better kept to himself than vomitted. He rep Nigerians weda christian, muslim or atheist.
I really hate when Nigerian's call these politician's or appointees daddy, mummy or father figure! Guy! He is not your father figure but your EMPLOYEE! Nigerians EMPLOYED GEJ who EMPLOYED these people to represent him and delegated duties to them. He is not anybody's father but his kid's father. I know as a consulate he should have sent a letter at least. But those people are the most foolish and uncaring people. If a Nigerian is killed, even the Nigerian government doesn't ask questions. Why didn't GEJ and his band send condolence letter through the consul? Let us even start from there. If they didn't send him, he has no message to give. With the way he talks, he probably needs direction or would have made things worse for the victims families with his presence.

Fasheun's opinion. Like any Nigerian he is entitled to his own opinion. But not because of fear should we set ourselves back 1000yrs. Jona has already committed a lot of treasonable offences with impunity. To let this stand is setting a bad precedent. Let the heavens fall if they may. It will fall any way. So why not cut our losses now. Jonathan and his band of thieving advisers are there for the loot. That behavior is not sustainable in the world's environment of today.

Being of Nigerian descent doesn't make you Nigerian. Most of those people carry American passports. If they are American they shouldn't expect anything from the Nigerian consulate. I didn't even know people even cared about these consulate people enough to invite them anywhere. We Nigerians have to live and let live. Let people be guided by their religious belief, personal belief if they want to, as long as it does not jeopardize the life of others. I understand the issue of sensitivity but does the writer have solid proof that he said this? If he does then that should have been released along with this writeup. Plus Nigerian's are not too known for applying wisdom or diplomacy before they talk.

The fact is Awo's name is not Zik, Nzeogwu, Ironsi or Ojukwu. These people are roasting for their betrayal and the killing of their own people. I wonder what power a finance minister will have under the military. Not to talk of what obligation Nigeria as your enemy had to feed you. Back to the question of the thread, why was Banjo killed? Banjo killed himself. He went to fight with people that kill others but spare theirs and pretend to be trying to change something. A snake cannot bron a monkey. Fasheun has started mingling in politics. I think the cashless policy is good if Nigeria had electricity and all businesses had access to credit card machine processing systems. Being that only a small percentage of businesses operate under this system, the idea is simply illogical and would ground a lot of businesses if people have limits to how much cash they have access to. I think Mr. Sanusi is putting the cart before the horse here. I would not have inclined towards Fasheun's thinking if I had not seen some of Sanusi's previous articles. Am sure he will not do this where he got his chieftancy title. The policy should be reversed. Doesn't make sense in Nigeria's present business climate.
