Wow! whenever Nigeria Ghana threads is opened, it goes beyond many pages. There are some people here who are here to insult, some are here to educate us and some are here for heavens knows best.

This guy 'SmoothCrim' i do not know his problem . He seem to have this bad mindset about Nigeria and Nigerians, guy take it easy. Nairaland was not created to hate but a way to inspire, educate and meet people as a form of social network. SmoothCrim, you talk about been a big fan of ECOWAS, i do not see such instead what i see is hatred for a fellow west african. You talked about Cameroon taken away bakassi & pooing on us. We, loosing Bakassi to Cameroon is disappointing but you need to understand that is was not Nigeria vs Cameroon fighting over Bakassi, but it was Nigeria vs France. France backs the francophone regions and if we were a true UNITED ECOWAS NATION, i do not see why Ghana cannot come in to help the situation just like how Nigeria does to help other west african nation. do you know that in some francophone regions, anything found below 6ft is for France? Do you know that in some francophone regions where the president are living(presidential palace), they pay rent to the french govt? you can imagine how it was for a country like France to intervene on behalf of Cameroon just to ensure they take over Bakassi and ofcourse sit on bakassi as if it is for them.

Smoothcrim, i know you have this 'blockaje meantale' attitude(its an ivorian saying meaning: having one sided view or decision about a topic whatever people say so as to make a point, you go for your own not wanting to care about others decision). We are here to learn and integrate and not throw up insult on one another.

BusinessRe: Can I Make It In Nigeria With Just £10,000? by 360command: 3:24am On Jul 14, 2012
10000pounds=2.5 milion naira! this na cash oooo. To invest in 9ja no easy except you don dey dat ground for a while for you to understand 9ja market very well. Everything na Segmentation , targeting and positioning. Going into a biz to yield profit na time and patient.

1. Having a restaurant(small) biz is not bad.you cud start up by selling Rice(jollof or fried). You need to create aesthetics in the rice, it should not come with the regular Rice and stew or Rice and dodo as what we see in normal canteen in 9ja. You need to bring in some vegetables, cabbage , salad cream or a special made kind of sauce attached to it. create a narrow plastic fancy long table with small fancy chairs(those colourful beautiful table and chair). set the business close to a market area(not the market itself). I have set this business to friends in calabar, edo, anambra and they are really making it there. they do not need to put on generator for the crowd that troops in . when people sees its full, they buy take away and leave.. my friends are making it despite the small space but its the designing and the food which makes it unique.

Also, as a 9ja guy u need to think deep. its not only investing in Nigeria you need to look at. africa is developing and whatever business you put in , there is bound to be success cause there are no much competition like in Europe. Look at investing along the coast of the west african regions. Our lebanese ,indians and chinese are very smart at it. they come to undeveloped regions of africa and apply their trade even at the grass root level and they are making money out of it. Countries of W.africa loves CHINA phones & accessories very much unlike Nigeria where we like big things alot, so you need big money to invest in those Big things.

A country like Togo, Ivory coast ,Burkina ,Ghana etc.which i have been to, they have love for CHINA PHONE & accessories. I also heard that people are going to Liberia now to invest in WHO KNOWS WHAT.

You need to think beyond your scope and see where your future lies. But 9ja na still the very place. if i were you, i would go for my restaurant biz since you said you are 44 which is more like a retiree coming back HOME.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Fuel Tanker Explosion Kills 95 by 360command(op): 3:46pm On Jul 12, 2012
A very stupid things to do .Instead of them to see how they can rescue victims in the auto crash, they want to enrish themselves by scooping fuel. The deed has been done. This is not the first, second, third time we are hearing on the news about fire explosion as a result of when people try to steal fuel. We do not learn from mistakes at all.

My condolences go out to all of the families affected. Peace be with you and yours.

PoliticsNigeria Fuel Tanker Explosion Kills 95 by 360command(op): 3:38pm On Jul 12, 2012
AT LEAST 95 people who rushed to scoop up fuel after a Nigerian petrol tanker tipped over have been killed when the vehicle caught fire.

The tanker swerved as it was trying to avoid a collision with three oncoming vehicles including a bus, said Kayode Olagunju, sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission in the southern Rivers state.

Residents said that shortly after the collision hundreds of locals flocked to the site to collect the spilling fuel.

"Then there was an explosion followed by fire," Mr Olagunju said. "Ninety-three were burned to death on the spot. Two died later in the hospital (and) 18 people were seriously injured."

In a statement, the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) gave the same figures.

Many of those killed were motorcycle taxi operators, known locally as "Okada", who raced to fill up their tanks after learning of the crash.

Mr Olagunju said at least 34 motorcycles were destroyed in the blaze.

The accident happened in an area called Ahoada near the oil hub of Port Harcourt in Nigeria's crude-producing Niger Delta region.

Motorcycle taxi driver Kingsley Jafure said the vehicle collision occurred at roughly 6am local time, and the spilled petrol caught fire about 90 minutes later, but that time sequence could not be immediately confirmed by officials.

"At about 7.30 while I was inside trying to decide whether to go (scoop fuel) or not. That is when I saw that the tanker exploded," Mr Jafure said.

The area had been cordoned off by security forces and a large number of rescue officials were on the ground.

The NEMA statement said "rescue workers from the police, road safety, fire service, civil defence and NEMA were at the scene to evacuate victims and control the traffic".

Major accidents, often involving large-haul trucks, are common in Nigeria, where many of the roads in terrible condition.

Trucks operating on the country's road are often old and poorly maintained and road worthiness checks are scant.

Abandoned trucks, some of them destroyed by heavy collisions, can regularly be seen along major Nigerian motorways.

In March, a petrol tanker caught fire after skidding off the road in southern Port Harcourt, killing six people and injuring several others.

While in April last year, a fuel tanker overturned at an army checkpoint in central Nigeria, sparking an inferno in which some 50 people were killed.

Mr. student, enjoy the 24/7 electricity and beautiful serene of Ghana for now cuz u sure ain't getting tht in naija......

tha truth has been hurting since the beginning of man- otumfour says so grin
Bro, I have studied in Nigeria before coming to Ghana for studies.I did information technology back in the Nigerian university. In this life, going to school, you need money and if you want the best of the best education,it is money.Even the Americans go out to study abroad. every countries has got its areas of specialty in terms of studies ; Caribbeans and its health sector in the university, studying engineering go to Germany, information technology go to Finland, studying business go to America or UK etc..

I am not here to argue or make a point with you cause i know you want this thread to be filled up with comments.I have been to different countries of the west African regions and the only thing i see beneficial is the average constant electric power(which is better than Nigeria) that makes the system calm, nice and beautiful in a certain way.Still, they are all third world. A system where government cannot provide its citizens with good governance , health, sound education, jobs, food, shelter and electric power is nothing to write home about.Despite all this you mentioned about naija been f**ked up, does it not shock you that the country is progressing forward economically? how are they(Nigerians) doing it ? Ghana which is not having the problems as you mentioned is still lacking behind. when i came to ghana , 1 usd was equivalent to 1 cedi , but now it is ₵1.95. A bottle of coke from 80 pes is now ₵1.20. (what is happening to Ghana's economy) !!! Post comment that would make reasoning so as people can use it to improve whatever issues on ground,we all know our leaders are not doing well enough for we africans, Please stop the hate cause it is not pushing ECOWAS forward.

BusinessRe: Clarification: Ghana Is Not Closing Legal Nigerian Businesses by 360command:
I live/study in Ghana, they say its in their constitution that foreign business men has no right to enter into the retail business sector of Ghana which is owned by Ghanians and it has been in their constitution since 1996. Well, they maybe right but not when it involves ECOWAS citizens, they are very wrong. Because the bulk of immigrants who travel from one country to another accross the Ecowas regions are the poor ones. Obviously, we are in africa, a situation where i cannot get job in another ECOWAS country but i have money to invest in a retail business, i think this is the best thing that can happen to me as a member of the ECOWAS STATES.

Ghana says: No ECOWAS member is allowed to trade in the market areas of Ghana e.g CIRCLE, KEJETIA ETC - if i don't trade in the market areas, where do you want me to trade ? No land is given to us by Ghanian government to do our trade ; THIS CONTRADICTS ECOWAS PROTOCOLS.

If any ECOWAS MEMBER 'Nigerians' wants to do retail business in Ghana, He/She is to pay $10,000 which he/she must partner with a Ghanian. IF he or she does not want to partner with a Ghanian, let them pay $300,000 to establish the business wholly. - $300,000 is kind of big when looking at an average Nigerian trading in VCD,DVD,TAPES, RECORDERS,clothes in a retail section which they plan to raise it from $300,000 to $1,000,000 soon .If we want to establish a business in Ghana for us to trade, we partner. If we want to sell our music in ghana, we have to do collaboration with Ghanian artist,WE PARTNER. If we want to sell our movies in Ghana, we have to partner by including ghanian actors/actresses. EVERYTHING WE PARTNER !!!!

Ghana had independence in the year 1957 and we had ours in 1960, This guys are elders in terms of age difference, why must they want us to partner with them in everything just for us to sell in Ghana. Is this the way other West African nations are doing to us ?
BusinessGhana Swoops In On Foreign Retailer Operating In The Country by 360command(op): 9:54am On Jul 04, 2012
Ms Hannah Tetteh, Minister of Trade and Industry on Tuesday, said government recognised the right of foreigners to establish businesses in the country but they needed to abide by all legal requirements.

She said for any foreigner to establish a business in the country, it was important to meet the minimum obligations before they could operate freely.

Ms Tetteh was addressing a press conference after a closed door meeting with the Economic Community of West African State (ECOWAS) Parliamentary delegation in Accra on Tuesday.

She said the meeting was to clarify issues and make it clear to the delegation that government was not only dealing with ECOWAS traders but all foreign traders operating illegally.

Ms Tetteh said the traders presented a petition to the ECOWAS Parliament creating the impression that government was taking action against traders from within ECOWAS.

She noted that government recognised the ECOWAS right to establish; but in any ECOWAS country there was the need to regard all minimum obligations that go with it.

“As much as the ECOWAS rights give them the opportunity to do business, they must oblige by all regulations and operate legally.”

Ms Tetteh indicated that foreigners must register with the Ghana Revenue Authority, Tax Secretariat and must be legal residents in Ghana before they could undertake any form of business in the country, saying these were provisions they were required to act upon and complied with.

However, she assured the delegation that the exercise of closing down foreign businesses in the country would continue, but would be suspended for some few weeks upon consultation with government officials to allow for further sensitisation.

Ms Tetteh said the exercise was about ensuring that people who undertook business in Ghana did it legally, saying we need foreign businesses to be legally compliant.

“If steps were not taken to ensure that these businesses operate legally, the consequences would affect all Ghanaian traders,”she added.

Ms Tetteh urged the delegation to communicate to ECOWAS that Ghana had not taken any action against ECOWAS countries but all foreigners operating in the country, adding, it would formally write to them during the week to make sure Ghana’s position on the issue was clarified.**

Its so sad that this has happened this way.I sympathize with the deceased loved ones and family. Here is a time govt needs to step their game up by enforcing strict measures on air companies.A merging coalition amongst air companies needs to be formed where government should ask air companies to provide at least 3 new airplanes .etc

Also, I think the travel system by roads needs to be checked,a good proper road should be maintained. They need to scrap those small buses used in travelling and bring in coaches, when I mean coaches,I mean the korean kind of coaches 'Yutong bus'.

Rail system transport is equally good, but we are not close to having an effective train system that can travel long distance ,no train ,no rail.

Jobs/VacanciesHRM- Areas Which Employers Would Bargain With Their Union Representatives. by 360command(op): 1:33am On Apr 26, 2012
ollective agreement:
The process by which trade unions, representing worker and employers through their representatives, adequately treat and negotiate with a view to the conclusion of a collective agreement or resolution of disputes is known as collective agreement. The agreement is usually written by the employer and a union on behalf of the employees or staffs employed by the employers. Below are the written agreements.

1. Been able for both parties to determine working conditions and terms of employment.

2. Protect workers against unfair dismissal and other issues relating to employment legislation.

3. A recognized facilities for time off for trade union duties and activities

4. There should be harmonization of annual leave.

5. A staff development review scheme needs to be checked.

6. Membership or non-membership of a trade union

7. Disciplinary matters

8. Tools for negotiation or consultation

The impact on management/employee relations on successful establishment of a union

There would be a striking balance of interests here. From the employer's perspective, the company’s relations is about having the right to manage, so as they can have that ability to plan for the future in other for the company to be a success; to make profits and to keep its employees motivated.
From the employees’ perspective, they can be able to secure the best possible condition and living standards for the employees.

[b]North Korea's military vowed a new and unusually specific threat to its neighbors, saying it would reduce South Korea "to ashes" in less than four minutes.

The statement, released Monday when programming was interrupted on North Korea's state TV by a special report, comes amid rising tensions on the Korean peninsula.

Earlier this month, North Korea was unsuccessful in a long-range missile launch, prompting worries that North Korea may conduct another nuclear test. South Korean officials say new satellite images show that North Korea has been digging a tunnel in what appears to be preparation for a third atomic test.

According to the Associated Press, the statement from North Korea was unusual in promising something soon and in describing a specific period of time.

The North Korean military threatened to "reduce all the rat-like groups and the bases for provocations to ashes in three or four minutes, (or) in much shorter time, by unprecedented peculiar means and methods of our own style."

For months the North has castigated South Korean President Lee Myung-bak and the conservative administration for insulting their leadership and criticizing a new cruise missile capable of striking anywhere in the south.

South Korean officials responded, urging North Korea to end the threats. "We urge North Korea to immediately stop this practice," Unification Ministry spokesman Kim Hyung-suk said, according to the Associated Press. "We express deep concern that the North's threats and accusations have worsened inter-Korean ties and heightened tensions."

Meanwhile, in a meeting Sunday with a North Korean delegation in Beijing, China's senior official on foreign policy praised the leadership shown by North Korea's new young leader, Kim Jong Un.

The meeting follows the April 13 launch of what the United States called a disguised ballistic missile test by North Korea. The rocket disintegrated minutes after launch.
