High-speed rail just got a whole lot faster.

China is reportedly developing a high-speed train that will travel at 1,000 kilometers per hour, or approx. 621 miles per hour, through Maglev lines in airless tubes underground.

Researchers at the National Power Traction Laboratory of Southwest Jiaotong University reportedly told Beijing-based Legal Evening News that they were working on a prototype “vactrain” with an average speed of 500 to 600 kilometers per hour (approx. 311 to 373 miles per hour.)

The researchers say the technology could be in use within a decade. In the meantime, a smaller model train may be introduced in two or three years, they said.

The technology at the heart of the train is Maglev, short for magnetic levitation, technology. A concept that’s been around for more than 100 years, Maglev tech entails the suspension of a train via powerful magnets to remove the friction present at the rails of conventional trains.

The catch with maglev technology is that there’s still friction from the air rushing past the train as it hurtles down the tracks. To date, the fastest Maglev train managed about 361 miles per hour — not much faster than a conventional high-speed train.

But an airless tube — a vacuum — would remove that air drag, allowing for impressive speeds. (The trains themselves will contain pressurized air, just like an airplane.) A cheaper alternative to removing the air completely is to depressurize it, the researchers say.

Inventor and ET3 CEO Daryl Oster holds the U.S. patent for Evacuated Tube Transport, or ETT, technology. As you might expect, Oster has reportedly been working with Chinese researchers Shen Zhiyun, Zhang Yaoping and Wang Jiasu at the university on the concept.

The researchers say the train is cost-competitive with a traditional high-speed train because it has a smaller tunnel and requires less boring.

HiTV had the rights for 3 years and did nothing with it.Notice that most people are happy the DSTv Has the rights once more.
Economy?DSTv probably contributes more to the economy of this country than HiTV probably ever will.

As per you r question on the difference,you've answered it.There's no such thing as regulation in the very sense of the word here.So i don't expect you to expect a miracle for the rights to be re-awarded to HTV.

@ lynx dont mean to raise ur hopes but i think i may have found the solution to that wine/connectivity thingy. it has to do with installing stuff with winetricks script.

havent tried it, dont think i will have time till sunday but i got stuff from oe of my long hikes in the hack worlds underground. there an a exe app for viewing coded streams online, works fine in windows, the maker says he tried it in mint with wine and that it works.

he gave a how-to, short, basically install WMP10 and some stuff (.ocx files) register them and pronto. im dying to try it too, but have to chill till sunday. im occupied otherwise.


but then have u ever tried starting any networking app with sudo in terminal? sudo wine bal bla bla?
cuz i was able to use IWP with sudo (didnt work as normal user) and it made me wonder if those exe will network with sudo

see he issue is not with the startimes but with the signal strength. i also had this issue. infact i was getting no channels. i put in a disused antenna (does'nt work) and i recieved 18 channels.

i later took it to anor location and recieved 36 with just the internal antenna so im pretty sure that its the signal strength/quality that matters. the koko is to get a stronger signal with an external antenna.

my own issue is where to get a very good one and not the crap all these eastern boiz sell in roadside electronic shops.


heard startimes also has some antenna, but i dont know how good or how much, keep hearing different sums, guess greed has become a factor for agents and resellers

nah activating 3G on glo is a bit problematic.

thing is u gonna have to part with some money i.e subscribe to one of their "plans" cheapest being #500 gloflat plan that lasts 24 hrs and gives usage of 150mb.

then comes the catch, that subscription is most likely gonna be money down the drain cos it wont work till they activate u for 3g, they will probably do that when you call customer care and disturb them /harrass them and then will probably also become active the next day that is after 24 hrs!!


i know cos i have gone thru that twice trying to help friends activate, the last one being 3 days ago. its crazy, but thats nigeria's definition of "world class service" for u.

best bet would be to walk into a glo shop, sweeet talk someone there to activate your line for u within say 6 hrs and part with the money for subscription (that is vital else no dice)

in short they will swindle you out of some money, and will activate for you only if u harrass them sufficiently!!!!

yes the power thing is not too good, and it seems its just not a priority for devs. u cant blame them, they live in enviroments where outages is a non-occurring phenomenon and even when mobile you can get somewhere and hook up power with little fuss
