If you read me well, I wrote for both position stating that the society favour men in this respect more than women. The countries with law against polygamy are few compared to those in support.
I have read and still read the OP, no reason to think I didn't. Ok bro. |

coogar: men are naturally polygamous - as it's seen in all male mammals. it's just that as humans, we are expected to have a high degree of self-control not to surrender to such urges that the western society has stigmatised. Totally agree. Esp at bolded. |

cococandy: We are monogamous. Like we were told we are by men who have never been women before .
Why is that sarcastic? Yes you are monogamous. As told by men ? Maybe. As defined by nature? Definitely. As endorsed by society? Oh yes. As directed by almost ALL world religions? Absolutely. You couldn't handle two husbands even if you wanted to . You are monogamous. Deal with it. |

cococandy: To answer the OP Yes.
And women are monogamous in nature. Once attracted to one man, they can't ever be attracted to another or Even be tempted in any way to get close to another man.
#feeling like an angel No one is saying females cant be adulterous. Chances are however, that they are naturally more faithful in the family unit than the man. |

cococandy: You're surprised because you don't stop to reason why I would support someone leaving a partner in one instance and sticking with them in another instance. Why? [s]Because just like many, you assume that if someone tells an abused person to leave a marriage for their own safety, that must mean they will also tell someone to leave their partner because they didn't clean the house right.
I don't owe you explanation pls. Carry your surprise and waka along[/s]. No, I am surprised beasue this is the FIRST TIME I am seeing you use the phrase do not divorce him in very clear coincise terms There is hope for the world yet! Yay! |
Family › Re: Are Men Naturally Polygamous? by 5minsmadness(op): 10:18pm On Jul 07, 2015 |
bellong: Not really that men are polygamous.
Humans wants and appetites are insatiable. A married person will always see another hot chick he is willing to go down with due to this internal struggle to meet all wants. Same for women, reason why we have ladies who only want an open relationship.
However, the society more or less favour the man opting for more wives than woman marrying more than one husband at the same time.
One of the things accepting Jesus does in anybody's life is the grace to kill these ungodly appetites for wants and lust through the workings of the Holy Spirit in one by subjecting the flesh to death.
Men are not polygamous, humans are. I put it to you that you did not read the OP. |

thelish: please I need advice on my marriage. my husband is lazy and always dependents on people for survival. Am tired of supporting a man who is not ready to stand. At a time, I had to start selling food for us to cope n pay our son's school fees. we are both graduates. He got depressed and discouraged after applying for several jobs. he graduated since 2008, and still jobless till now. I don't know how I can cope any longer. please matured people of nairaland should advice me. chair cover, efemenaxy, greatgod2012, its a pity osisi is not around anymore, cococandy, tallesty n many more I can't mention. thank u all. Well, what were the good features that made you marry him in the first place? This thing we call marriage is not like you see in the movies, it is not only a bed of roses but thorns as well. In this relationship you are going to have to be strong for your family even though that does not mean you are going to allow your husband continue to be lazy. A man that cant cater for his family is worse than an infidel. Kudos on your being resourceful soa s to send your kids to school and feed them. however, dont give up on your husband. Continue to encourage him, continue to push him and eventually by God's grace one day he will wake up to his responsibilites. Try not to be rude to him or rub his current predicament in his face, men have a tendency not to forget those things and can strike back when their luck changes for the better. Be encouraged, it is well. |

Family › Are Men Naturally Polygamous? by 5minsmadness(op): 8:47pm On Jul 07, 2015 |
The answer is simple: Yes.
The Reason: Men have a higher sex drive/libido than women. It all stems from the male sex hormone testosterone whih is 16times higher in the male than in the female. Testosterone is the main hormone responsible for libido/sex drove in males. Women possess testosterone as well but in very small amounts when compared to thier male counterparts. Women's sex drive is further reduced by the prescence of estrogen which although is necessary for the lubrication of the vagina, is an antagonist to testosterone and reduces its level in the female system further. However as a man ages, his testosterone levels reduce gradually over the years until the age of 60-65 when he begins to lose interest in sex although not completely. The female on the other hand loses a lot of her eostrogen when she hits menopause and o her testosterone levels increase but still never reaches the level of a male.
Polygamy: The above simply explains that males naturally have a higher sex drive than females and so are bound to have more sexual partners than their female counterparts. This is not peculiar to homo sapien species as other male creatures in the animal kingdom ranging from the chimpanzee to the lion and even the male chicken(cock) have multiple female partners and thus practice polygamy.
Society: Unfortunately/fortunately society has placed an embargo on the number of female partners a male can have at any given point in time. This was probably done to reduce fights among the females, improve the ability of the man to cater for a smaller family in a more sophisticated/modern world where a larger family did not directly translate to a better chance at survival as is was in prehistoric/agrarian era. Even at that some societies still allow for a man to be polygamous e.g african, moorish, conservative American societies e.g the state of Utah and other neighbouring states ,etc.
Religion: Although Christianity appears to encourage monogamy profusely, it does not directly discourage polygamy either. Numerous quotations abound in which a man is admonished to love his wife(not wives) and yet the bible passage of a bishop being the hsband of one wife seems to imply that there were men with more than one wife who by that sttatus were not recommended to being bishops.
There are very few instances in which the female is polyandrous e.g the Indian marriages of Asia but these are exceedingly rare, and are practically miniscule to non-existent in the animal kingdom.

Family › Re: #beingfemaleinnigeria Trending On Twitter. How True Are These Tweets? by 5minsmadness: 11:36am On Jul 07, 2015 |
gabbytabby: Most of the societal ills are enforced by women on their fellow women so who is discriminating against who.
My prayer is that more and more women have the strength of character to shrug off ignorance in whatever form it presents itself. If someone says you are .............. its not really a problem until you start to believe it or when you hide away in shame.
You have to know and be proud of who you are. You have to be your own best advocate and spend your time making wise and dignified choices. Personally once I am comfortable with the choices that I make, I really do not give a damn what someone who does not really feature in my radar has to say about it. Majority are so unhappy in their lives that they are looking for their unhappy club members.
Silence is golden for a lot of situations and you have to choose which ignorance to dignify with a response. Such a nice post. 1000likes. |

bukatyne: Bro 5mins,
Can you state specifically where the Bible says men are 'naturally' or 'have tendencies' to be polygamous?
I know you believe solely in the Bible, your submission thread pointed that out
Thanks What has that got to do with anything? It's not a bible principle that all men are polygamous, I was responding to what coco typed: From blaming the girls, you've turned to blame the west. African men are no longer polygamous? And no, I don't believe solely in the bible. |

Ayolaw2003: Nice contributions from Nairalanders but I'm yet to get the answer to the question raised by the Op! The question is why men treat side-chicks better than their wives. Because they appreciate them more. They give the sex without the usual wahala and nagging and require little financial maintenance compared to the wife! |

cococandy: What you term defense is actually not defense. Defending them from what? Else I'd be saying all western people are good godly people who don't sin and are at worst being influenced by others.
Telling you to take responsibility for your actions is not defending the west. I know I must agree with you for me to be not defending them.
If you speak English yes the words you use to describe those terms will be the same western words because you speak the same language as them. You really need to be told this too? #facepalm.
But is the concept new? No.
We have Igbo words for babymama and they are not new words. They were in existence before the west came and 'spoiled' us. you are dancing round the point. the terms "Babymama" and "Sidechick" are not old english words, they just popped up very very recently. So saying I am using the terms cos they are english words...you are the one that deserves the Facepalm. Anyway read the article I posted up there. Its quite interesting if i do say so myself. and it was written in the "West"! So you see, I dont castigate them for everything, they do right sometimes too |
