Missambitious: We are all reacting based on what we Were told. The truth of the matter is that, the acclaimed technician is also a staff of the hotel. The cylinder belongs to the hotel maintenance unit too.
Two staffs died while four are in the hospital receiving treatment. It's shameful that the hotel would denied its staff and referred to them as technicians, just to save face. I once worked with them and after reading this news, i called a lot of my friends there who confirmed the incident and told me how it happened.
I repeat, the cylinder belongs to the hotel maintenance unit. They are more to this story than what they told you. One of my friends is seriously wounded and he's receiving treatment in the hospital. I pray for his healing... The concept of Res Ipsa Loquitur applies here... The fact of the explosion proves the existence of negligence. Because explosions do not occur without negligent fault... Only issue is where the negligence occurred - by staff or hotel. > |

LLSAINT: I understand your concerns. We all must speak against it Judging from your write up, you have a bitter pill to spill out even if you may not want to concur that you were a victim. However, 80% of women have one way or the other have been raped going by your definition (which is the standard definition) but, unfortunately, the society and laws do not protect our women. Refer to the case of Mike Tyson and the lady that accused him of rape. The back breaker was that Mike agreed that she initially said no before agreeing to have sex with him. That was what landed Iron Mike into jail. African laws do not assist in this regard but to say you hate men, please I take exception and would advice you have a rethink else, you may end up being lonely and a gay. It would be the other way around... And with all due respect, what she “defined” as rape is most certainly NOT the so-called “standard definition”... Rape is non-consensual penetration (or statutory, because minors by law cannot grant consent), not when one regrets thereafter. > |

CAN YOU CONSIDER THAT AS A RAPE OR SOMETHING ELSE...pls enlighten me Abegi, what sort of gibberish is this? The way a woman is dressed is IRRELEVANT to rape (in ALL circumstances)!
Meanwhile, if you are looking for commercial sex transactions, there are professionals for that... Instead of confusing yourself (and everyone) or trying to make excuses for any non-consensual sex.> |

saphiere: Dear men, may I know what joy you derived from sleeping with minors?
This is what I always tell every mother that comes my way. Never leave your girl child in the custody of any man be it her father. Most rape culprits are the people so close to us.
If the meaning of rape is having sexual intercourse against a person's wish, then all Nigerian men are rapists. Permit me to say so. Why will a guy call his girlfriend to visit him only to force himself one her?
Most people think rape is when a stranger beats a person tear her clothe then force himself on her. The refused to understand that having sex with someone against the person will is rape. And that most rape culprits are the people close to us. (Boyfriends and Husbands rape their lovers countless times)
Whether a person is being sweet-talked into opening her legs, is being used force on, or used gifts as bait to get her have sex, it is rape as long as the person's initial intention wasn't to have sex.
People twisted the job seeker's case and said she agreed to the sex but on a condition he uses condom. Therefore it isn't a rape case. So I asked them, what was job seeker's initial plan of visiting Mr. Frank? Was it for sex? No. So it is rape. It was done against her will.
So my sister, these men are rapists. Imagine going to visit your boyfriend and he demands sex from you. When you refused maybe you are not in the mood, he will say things like "you are seeing another man" "you don't like him" "he has done a lot for you" bla bla bla. And once you finally give in to his demands, my sister that is rape. Whether he forced you, sweet-talked you, blackmail you, or use whatever means to sleep with you that day, as far as your original plan wasn't to have sex with him, then that is rape.
I thought I'm the only one. Whether she is 100 years old, rape is rape. Speak against it. For seemingly the millionth time on Nairaland... Forcible rape has NOTHING to do with sex, so “sleeping” with minors (or anyone) is IRRELEVANT!
As for the rest of your comment, parts of it are misguided and/or just plain wrong... If a woman consents to sex after initially not wanting sex, IT IS NOT RAPE (even if there’s later regret).
Please do not be patronizing (and even paternalistic) by regarding women as intellectual simpletons... Adult women have agency of their own and are perfectly capable of making up and/or changing their minds.
Conversely, if a woman initially consents but subsequently changes her mind, anything else is RAPE... Nonetheless, women have to be unequivocal as to consent or non-consent, rape is too serious for ‘games’!> |

> I may not agree with El-Rufai’s methods, but agree with his general point here.
Nigeria will perpetually remain a deserved Third World s/hole if the states were simply a Clearing House to distribute money collected each month from FAAC to an often over-bloated public service (MDAs), with little or no money at all left over for capital investment in physical and social infrastructure (including schools, hospitals, public transportation, etc.). Without meaningful capital investment (especially considering that most or not virtually all of Nigeria’s states are DECADES behind in infrastructure and human capital development), Nigerian states will not just stagnate economically, but will actually fall behind (and not just because to stand still in the 21st century is effectively falling behind), and unless more Nigerian states rapidly grow economically, more Nigerians will continue to fall into poverty in a nation that is already reportedly the World’s Capital of Extreme Poverty!
The NLC and the KDSG should get together and sort out the best (or most humane) process to disengage these civil servants, without taking their eyes off the bigger goal - real economic development that will benefit the general population, not by sharing money in the form of barely subsistence salaries to an over-bloated and often poorly trained relatively small group of persons who have to connections or were otherwise lucky to get and hold jobs in the public service. > |

jojofola: El Rufai is too controversial.
Man should not even be made to captain a class. Sometimes “controversy” is necessary... Unfortunately, development often comes with some dislocation. For example, if you provide portable water and on-grid electricity), water vendors and generator vendors and/or repairers lose their livelihoods. Nonetheless, the BEST way to help a mostly poor population is not by sharing money in the form of barely subsistence salaries to an over-bloated and often poorly trained relatively small group of persons who have to connections or were otherwise lucky to get and hold jobs in the public service. Rather, it is by investment in human capital development (primarily education and healthcare) and physical infrastructure (roads, rail, electric power, etc.) that will serve as a catalyst to increased economic activity and therein the creation of new private sector jobs and services, as well as the generation of attendant tax revenues for reinvestment in more social and physical infrastructure, and security. > |

Pierocash: Who is the flatmate , he shares apartment with a grown-up adult of the opposite sex?
There is more to this story Starboytwo: Definitely, that's not what happened. Tannhauser: Shared flat with how? Probably church member. alizma: Please try to avoid somethings under certain circumstances. Why share your flat with another male when you have young girls? My daughter was one and I strongly resist my wife's suggestion to keep her with my younger brother and quickly get something done in school and return back. She was shocked but I didn't care, I rather explained to her that I do not trust anybody of opposite sex to any of my child. If anyone is not happy with it, he can use the lagoon but i am not changing my mind on that. If you can, please remove anything called trust when it comes to opposite sex, irrespective of age difference. A lot of things are happening these days blackboy: Avoid sharing apartment with men or leaving your daughters alone with a male Yankee101: Don't put up young men in your house. Even relatives. If you want to help them, rent a different location for them to stay
Too many stories of little boys and girls being raped by uncles (even aunties), neighbors or males living in or near or with access to the household
It's too much stress. No matter what you do save your money and move your family out of a face me I face you and your kids out of boarding school. Those are breeding grounds for sexual abuse. If your kids are going to clubs, religious meetings etc, make sure they are accompanied. Must be public with open access everytime InvertedHammer: Flat mate or live-in boyfriend? Millimann: Exactly.
Why would a woman share a flat with a male that is not a member of her family? Thought here’s a story that NL’s PRIMITIVE MISOGYNISTS couldn’t possibly blame the female VICTIMS...
How I grossly underestimated the extent of their apparently inherent misogyny (and probably overestimated their intellectual nous). It would appear that no matter how LOW the bar is set, they are determined to crawl below it and find some way to blame the female victims. SMH> |
