Unaevince: A great move, the first trip abroad as Nigeria President - Please get a better deal for our country and the African continent. This is the time to recover what has been lost.
God bless Nigeria
Freudian slip? Abegi don’t put our president, France and “recover” in the same sentence. >
He clearly has adopted his predecessor’s “5% vs 95%” philosophy… Albeit he (unlike Buhari) is just clever enough not to actually verbalize it.
Reality of “federal character” is that Ibos are the 3d largest ethnic group… And yet the President has made 33 prominent appointments thus far, and only 2 are Ibo.
By contrast, of the 33 (22 yesterday, 7 Special Advisers, acting CBN Gov, SFG, COS, DCOS)… 14 has been from the President’s own ethnic group, which is at best only slightly larger than the Ibos.
Personally, I have routinely argued for merit over “federal character”… But no one can RATIONALLY contend that there is a lack of meritorious Ibos.
Just as worrying is the continued lack of “national character” in Nigerian public life… Accordingly, of the 33 appointees, only a mere 4 are WOMEN (51% of the Nigerian population). SMH > __________________________ PS: Meanwhile, I now await my temporary NL ban (or timeout)… Which seems to follow any comments I make critical of President Tinubu. >
ThatCEO: Actually it is compulsory for people who r stars or can become potential stars be able to speak in English especially if their job involves communication. Pageant queens do a lot of speaking. If she doesn't want to speak English she could hv contested in d pageant organised in her village. Formula 1 drivers only use English to communicate over d team radio.
And yet there was a recent thread on NL with many contributors trying to justify the inability of so many Nigerian graduates to properly speak (nor understand) English, the language they supposedly received their entire tertiary (and probably secondary) education in, the language of the professional and/or formal workplace, and the national language of communication. >
Why does the thread heading not simply state “a contestant”? Except it’s another obtuse post to indulge NL’s CRUDE PRIMITIVE SEXIST AND MISOGYNISTIC tribe…smh
What exactly is the significance of it being a “female” contestant? Since all of the contestants are female, it means those with CORRECT responses were female, so being “female” is IRRELEVANT!
It’s not as if males are inherently any better… After all, in this NIGERIA, a state governor reportedly listed “Coke and Fanta” as among the minerals found in the state. >
juman: Nigeria air thing was very bad idea. We have just five percent stake, I wonder why government pursued that project. Our cannot run it alone either. Mismanagement and corruption would kill it.
While I similarly think the idea of a “national carrier” is outdated… The government nonetheless “pursued” the project to take advantage of our BASAs (currently underutilized by our flag carriers).
Trying to get around the outdated government-owned “national carrier” model… The government opted for a PPP model, with private sector majority ownership and control.
And precisely because “our mismanagement and corruption would kill it”… Government put out a global bid to attract competent management and capital (with Qatar Air initially being most likely partner).
Reality is that Nigeria Air is essentially a “vanity” project (that I personally wouldn’t have pursued)… But so many of the hysteria and (to be brutally honest, crude) xenophobia generated is ignorant and uncalled for. >
ednut1: MRS oil is owned by dangote through his nephew abi na cousin. Hmmm
olisaEze: MRS Oil & Gas aka Dangote again?? Make ona kuku just tell Nigerians to start paying their taxes directly to Dangote’s personal accounts since the whole country is being handed to him free of charge!
They’re cousins (Dangote’s mother is a Dantata)… Although some Nigerians use the term “brodas” ( ) or “half-brothers” instead.
Also, Aliko Dangote lived with the Dantatas’ patriarch (Alhassan)… But Sayyu is a “billionaire” in his own right, and thus any notion he’s a “surrogate” in MRS for Dangote is hogwash! >
Buddha3: I know, but sadly, this is Nigeria. Our major currency is the Naira. You don't expect to get foreign currency supply in abundance, do you? It is going to rubbish the relevance of our currency and lead to inflation.
You can't go to the USA and walk into any of their banks and expect that you'll withdraw 5million naira over the counter easily. You won't get it. Cause they won't have it. They float and promote their own currency the most.
You Nigerians really have to understand how some of these things work. It's not everytime you read things on the news that you'll rush to leave comments in condemnation of your country. If you reason logically, you'll understand the practicality of these things.
Of course you can go into YOUR bank in the US and easily withdraw up to $10K from your account (which is more than N5m)… Because your bank already has the requisite KYC information (but is also legally obligated to report “suspicious” transactions).
The CBN’s new daily ‘limit’ of $10K is not arbitrary, but rather the international AML limit, after which tougher requirements apply… Meanwhile, we should quit subscribing to low standards and lowered expectations embodied in comments such as “this is Nigeria”! SMH >
The idea of a “national carrier” in the 21st century is DUMB… BUT THERE IS NOTHING UNUSUAL ABOUT THIS SITUATION!
The usual process is to incorporate the company (by the Sponsor)… And thereafter share subscription, shareholders, management, and other agreements are negotiated and executed. >
From the look of things, you will know it is state-sponsored. Directly from the government. They are grooming kids into LGBTQ, and the first stage is this, by first sexualizing them. Then next, they start manipulating them at young age into believing they are in the wrong body.
Sometimes i just dont getit. What is the hidden agenda behind this evil movement called LGBTQ? And why is the western leaders so keen and serious about enforcing it on anyone and everyone. They claim it is not by choice but they were born that way, so why trying so hard to convert others who werent born that way, why trying to push it down the throat of our kids into being like them? I thought they said they were born that way, but they are trying to groom others not born that way to be like them. Why always trying so hard to publicised themselves, to force it down our throat, to display themselves right into our faces. For group of people crying about denial of right, don't they think they are encroaching and trespassing on our right too?
I pity those who see these foreign countries as heaven. Especially our politicians that love running to them for validation and political endorsement. Soon enough, they will start forcing our government to allow our kids here in Africa to start wearing opposite gender clothes. Boys will start wearing skirts and girls will start dressing like boys. And if we refuse signing it into law, their usual sanctions will rain down on us.
If you take care of your own nations… You don’t have to bother whether or not they will supposedly “sanction” you!
Meanwhile, thousands of your fellow Africans are “voting” with their feet and wallets which sort of society they prefer. >
Buddha3: This is a colossal lie. If you ever need to do a withdrawal up to the stated amount, go to the capital city of the state you're in and head to the major bank branch. It might take a bit of time cause of bank queues, but you'll get $10K without being a politician. I've done it a decent number of times before, when I was executing a building project for a client.
You cannot need that kind of amount and walk into just about any First bank branch (for instance), and expect them to have the dollars lying in the vault for you. Even with the naira, there's a limit to how much unit branches are supplied from the headquarters. Let's be objective when we're analysing these things please.
Yampotatocarrot: NSCDC, what's the full meaning sef? The corp members no change am foram... Them for beat shege comot their body, I'm VERY SURE the army guys there will support the corp members... Them for just use that leverage
Kai, I miss Nasarawa
Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corp…
Vigilantes, Agberos and thugs who were supposedly “civil defenders”… Until sometime ago when someone got the DUMB idea of arming them. SMH >
Same thing happened under Goodluck Jonathan… With Ministers holding greater loyalty to the Govs than to the President or even to Nigeria!
Same sentiment with the obtuse constitutional requirement of at least 1 minister per state… Whereas each minister feels she’s “representing” her state’s interest and must show “dividends” in the state.
And leaves Nigeria often with 40+ ministers, while (eg) the US with over $23 trillion GDP only has 24. SMH >
Jakumo: Hey, watch it, buddy. Some of my most respected colleagues are crass and crude misogynists in good standing with all rights and privileges implied. Fine upstanding citizens to the last man.
Dialpad: How did that white boy withstand her for that long ?
So she wasn’t dancing before they met? And dancing was all she ever did (no kids, no household duties, etc.)? Impressive nonetheless how you managed the trifecta of racism, sexism and misogyny in a one-line comment! SMH >
MomohMrMoore: CAN, Pastors are silent now. If the comment were to be against christians, they will want to bring Nigeria down. Religious bigots
Just as Imams and the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs always fight for Christians?!
What a BACKWARD country filled with CRUDE PRIMITIVE AND SUPERSTITIOUS CITIZENS… Look at the sort of PRIMORDIAL issues that occupy people’s attention in the World Capital of Extreme Poverty! SMDH >
