PoliticsRe: Court Indicts Chidi Odinkalu, Awards ₦250 Million As Damages To Odili by 9jaRealist: 1:26am On Jan 29, 2020
Clevite:
Are you sure it's a default judgement? The case that was instituted in October 2018 and judgement just delivered in January 2020 might have been well argued by both parties.

The report only says the defendant was not represented on the day the judgment was read. It doesn't indicate that he was not represented all through the trial.

By the way, if it's actually a default judgement, the judgment stands and cannot be summarily overturned, if there is proof of proper service and notices of hearing on Professor Odinkalu and he only chose not to defend himself.
You are right...
Need more information than provided in the newspaper report.

We should also thank the people who had the concept for the project but didn't fund it , Just like we should thank people who built 2nd Niger bridge on cardboard '

He who achieves it deserves the credit and glory
wellmax:
Give credit to the one who took it upon himself to ACT. With limited funds, he started capital intensive projects. He did not just plan on paper. He started work and is seeing it to completion.

Commend PMB
You have to have something to "act" upon...
That's why I said PMB cannot get all of the credit ALONE.

Btw, he did NOT "start" work on the project...
Jonathan started work on the Abuja-Kaduna part of this Lagos-Kano line.

PS: Taking loans is not exactly rocket science....
But of course the initial loans were secured by the Jonathan administration.

Homosexuality disgusts me to the core and I'm so against it (especially since one guy tried to chyke me like 7 years ago when I was about 15). But as days go by I just realise the energy the masses put into beating and lynching gay people is just misplaced priorities. We have more pressing issues in this country. But on the other hand if we give these people an inch they'll want to take a meter and next thing we'll have people trying to tell us that male and female are not the only genders on earth(like people are doing in the "saner and more civilized" climes.
Nigerians love to chase diversionary shadows in derogation of substance...smh undecided

Funny how you Nigerians who make such a show of your gay-bashing will give a limb to emigrate to countries like the US, UK or Canada where there's not only a whole Pride Day (or Week) celebrating LGBT 'lifestyle' but LGBT persons stroll around "flaunting" their lifestyles in public.

And may God change the heart of the wailers to wail no more but support this good initiative of PMB.
We'll get there soon
NO TO PDP AGAIN
Sorry, but credit does NOT belong to this government - alone....

The 25-Year Rail Development Masterplan was the brainchild of the Obasanjo administration...
While the initial financing (loans) were secured and contracts were awarded by the Jonathan administration.

This is an apt epitome of government being a CONTINUUM...
Even the Itakpe-Ajaokuta line was conceived and construction begun under the Shagari and IBB administrations.

No, they are not, I watched one of the test run on channel TV, a journey from Lagos to Ibadan took 4 hrs thats almost the same as using the road considering traffic, Lagos to Ibadan is 2 hrs without traffic. It will be more beneficial for transportation of goods and commuting of those that can afford to pay for road transportation.
They are just TEST-RUNNING those trains, but the trains will not be high-speed (that is, 200-250+ km/h)...
Nonetheless, the trains will have speed capacity of up to 150 km/h, but will likely run at 120km/h (like the Abuja-Kaduna line).

Seriously, do we need Chinese companies to build railways lines and rail stations? I can understand the importation of Chinese locomotives, but rail construction is basic civil engineering.

We should be ashamed that 60 years after independent, we can't operate refineries, steel plants or operate and maintain our roads and rail networks.
The Chinese government's Exim bank is giving you billions of dollars of low-interest loans at about 2-3% interest rate...
On the specific condition that you use Chinese contractors - after all, the money they are giving belongs to Chinese taxpayers!

This administration is probably not going to take the glory for this beauty , but it will forever be in the history books , the investment alone is making some engineers very rich , transport / shipping companies are getting richer , the ones who complain all the time are idiots who sit behind computer all day just to complain

They should of bulldozed all of those illegal shacks on the side of the road while they were at it. All of these pop up market locations should be torn down as all of the roads in the city are being repaired, and the occupants channeled to either indoor locations and or dedicated outside market grounds placed in a few dedicated open areas around the city. To have them sprawled out in shacks like this all over the city is not only a major eyesore but is also extremely unsanitary and dangerous. Lagos can not become a proper world class mega city with places like this being allowed to linger around all over the place. FACT!

Fueling station should be established in places that is isolated from houses and resident so that when there is explosions it will not destroy much property and life.... Nigeria is fond of placing fueling station all over the places.. Good bless Nigeria..
Has nothing to do with fuel stations...
These are pipelines carrying products to depots.

The pipelines existed BEFORE these areas became residential...
Unfortunately, in Nigeria, people ignore Right of Way and build with impunity.

The government should have done something about it long before...
But as we're CURRENTLY seeing in Tarkwa Bay, do-gooders will protest if they did.

They need to be compensated properly but why lay pipeline from South south to far north and south west?
It's the past government that should be held accountable for all the lives that has been lost due to pipeline vandalism
Is Nigeria the first country to lay hundreds of miles of pipelines?
Pipelines are preferable to petrol tankers running around our roads.

The problem are NOT the pipelines per se...
It's the people building on the RoW and the THIEVES who vandalize them.

Good, but (as I said in a previous thread on this story) he should have cut short his largely photo-opportunity trip to London to return as soon as the incident happened. There was nothing he was doing in London (largely as an appendage to Buhari) that couldn't have been by someone else.

And now I can see your point, yet it doesn't take away from the fact that suffering a low quality of life that doesn't match your expectation for your personal effort and achievement will naturally prompt you to consider alternatives.

Is it an individual doctors fault that his education was relatively cheap?

If they are able to provide the free and heavily subsidised education then why not follow through and create a conducive work environment?

Or to remedy your grouse, be like Singapore(I think) and rule that anybody who studies medicine on a govt grant must work for the government for at least 2 years after graduating.

Your last bolded statement closes the case.
Thanks for the intelligent discussion. Have a great day... cool

You dont get it. I was not disputing the value of education. I was comparing the expectation of its dividends with the reality on ground.

The fact that in the US and UK, many graduates end up driving Uber, serving coffee, working reception desks and other mundane jobs is irrelevant because you havent qualified that assertion.

Are you comparing the lunacy of being owed months of salary to being a taxi driver in America?

Does a trained teacher expect to suffer these types of indignities in his adult life?

Are you comparing a Business or Media Studies graduate from a low-ranked UK university with low-quality research who was unable to find a suitable job in post-recession Britain with a qualified Nigerian doctor who deals with a crippling patient ratio and has to work in 2 different hospitals to keep the lights on in his house?

If you want to discuss these things you need to make a specific point otherwise your post ends up being redundant.
EVERY society and nation started somewhere and worked their way up...
In my parents time in the US (1960s), blacks were still being publicly lynched, denied the vote, denied service in shops and generally segregated.

Meanwhile, how much does a “qualified Nigerian doctor” have to pay for his/her education as opposed to UK or US-qualified doctors (where most graduate from medical school with up to $250K loan debt)? A nation’s most important natural resource is human capital, and thus nations invest in their citizens with the hope and expectation of getting a ‘return’ by those citizens productivity (or re-investment into the society). Tens of thousands of Nigerians have benefited from heavily-subsidized and/or even free public education, including so many Nigerians in the diaspora.

Citizens create nations, not the other way around...
Ultimately, Nigeria’s condition is the culmination of the actions (by commission or omission) of ALL Nigerians - as will be its future.

Underlying cause?
Underlying cause is No Job .
We have no jobs because we have No industries.
We have no industries because we rather import finished goods into the country than manufacture our own goods and export.
Cars, phone shoes, pant....even petrol.
We can't even manufacture petrol. We have to export crude oil for Western nations to refine it into petrol, then import the petrol back.
In a country that cannot feed itself, “no job” is a cop out... undecided

Not justifying our country’s shortcomings....
But you know who else are WORSE off - many of our neighbors, and yet they don’t have our rampant criminality.

Kidnappers are NOT looking for honest pay for hard work...
They are looking for efizzy lifestyles, that’s why they keep REPEATING, rather than investing their loot into a trade.
