grandstar: If Nigeria was a country of 10m, this should be exciting news.
For Nigeria, a country of 190m people to be jubilant finding 1billion barrels of crude because the resource contributes over 70% of the government's revenue is lamentable. Britain, with a population of 66m, has a budget of 842billion pounds. That is more than double Nigeria's GDP.
It even produces crude oil but it is hardly ever mentioned in the revenue projections. It probably contributes no more than 2% of the country's budget. People in the UK pay taxes... And are PRODUCTIVE, rather than sharing money. Nonetheless, North Sea oil SAVED the UK economy... Before then, the UK was in rapid economic DECLINE! > |

EgunMogaji2: It doesn't matter at this point in life.
Crude oil is not a dirty word.
The exploration money should be spent on solar and wind farms. GamalNasser: The era of oil is gone , the UK has announced 2035 as the year to stop the sale of petrol engine vehicles . You will not see any IOC invest in that useless oil from the north Car engines are NOT the only consumers of petroleum (and hybrids use petrol anyway)... The US (a leader in renewable energy development) has INCREASED its exploration, even into previously protected areas... Amotolongbo: When other nations are looking away from crude oil as the only source of revenue, we keep on making explorations of crude oil with part of the resources we have. Yes, we should diversify away from oil as virtually our "only" revenue source, but NOT from crude exploration..

I have previously said here on NL, if Nigeria is split back into Northern and Southern Nigeria (something that I do NOT support btw), the latter will IMMEDIATELY become a middle-income nation. Meanwhile, folks on NL were only just this week celebrating flyovers being built for Gandollar by foreigners (primarily because the citizens themselves are incapable of building same) for a largely poor and illiterate population most of whom cannot even afford a bicycle. adekolaelect: stop all these theories and face the reality on Nigeria !!!!! How will you rehabilitate human development without capital project ? Can you give us ideas how a governor can improve education and human development of its citizens without capital project? Governors built schools and pay Teachers salary !!!The nature of population of those northern states ,Give us another idea that a governor can do to improve education and human development of his state than to give or enrich some part his political ally in the state which you all will still criticize ? I know your type !!! First class in theory but fail in practical . This is why Nigeria DESERVEDLY remains a Third World S/hole... The reality of all human history is that ALL SUCCESSFUL human economic development (unless you are saying that Nigerians are NOT human) has a conceptual basis. In effect, one has to have a plan or concept (or what you obtusely refer to as "theories" for development. The "practical" should be a physical manifestation of the concept, but without a coherent concept or "theory" of development, you might as well be pissing against the wind. Nonetheless, for seemingly the zillionth time, you leave the SUBSTANCE of the discourse and insist on chasing ephemeral shadows. Faced with a reported 80% poverty rate, the highest number of out-of-school children in the country, armies of Almajiri beggars and high levels of mortality, building flyovers for a substantially Okada-riding population should NOT be a priority! PRIORITIES! PRIORITIES!! PRIORITIES!!! Frankly shocking to see the celebration of flyovers built by FOREIGNERS for a population of largely beggars and illiterates mostly too poor to buy a bicycle. If you want to build "infrastructure", build that most RELEVANT to the circumstances of your citizens - schools and hospitals. Don't just "pay" teachers (subservient wages btw). Recruit more, scale up capacity, upgrade training and tools, and install RELEVANT (STEM) education. Anyway, as the saying goes, a nation DESERVES the leadership it has. Nigeria is a great example of the TRUTH of that saying. > |

McCoy662: Good morning Nlanders, I have this very issue bothering me. I have been in a relationship with this girl for about 3 years now. I love her so much, and she loved me until of recent when she told me that she's no longer interested in the relationship. She told me the stern truth that she was seeing someone else.
It's not like I don't take care of her, because I have given her almost everything she requested from me. I bought 90% of her clothes myself as she can't even buy for herself if I give her the money. I pay her bills too.
Just about 2 months ago, the said guy called me and told me that his gf (my gf) said I'm her ex, and they are now together. This guy is not that rich, he's just on average income scale, he's not super handsome and the worst is that, this girl calls and comes to my house for sex anytime she feels like. But that's all, we are not friends like before, we don't go out together, she don't even oblige my requests anytime I ask her for anything. She doesn't even visit on a regular except for sex.
Right now, I'm fed up; I'm tired of being in this love triangle, though I love her so much. My guys advised me to beat her up and warn her never to come close to my house again, but I just can't. Though I feel used as a sex object, but I just can't say no to this girl's request.
I don't just know, am I being stupid?? Is there a Best way to handle this in a more diplomatic way?? I really love this girl. She's probably your girlfriend only in your mind... Frankly, it just seems more like you are Booty Call. > |

13ShadesOfMay: Even with #OkadaKeke ban, most areas in Lagos are still in total traffic lockdown. My point is, LASG should have put in place an alternative for those affected by the ban... You can just wake up and put an end to the livelihood of ten of thousands of people... Regulation instead of total ban should have been adopted It's NOT a total ban... Rather, it's a zoning regulation.
Lagos has 20 LGAs and 57 LCDAs.... Only 6 LGAs and 16 LCDAs are affected.
Furthermore, LASG did NOT "just wake up" and effected this.... The law was enacted in 2012, as anyone in Okada business probably knew (or should have).
In a nation that is not food self-sufficient, and relies on Benin Rep and Togo for artisans... The lack of sufficiently gainful employment for the unskilled/poorly-skilled should not be a issue.> |

They cornered him, ask him to hand over his phone while showing him different axes to axe him if he didn't comply. It's after they left he started yelling thieves. adekolaelect: you are still on the same spot !!! For those who are educated & understand what the governance is will not really on only human development and left other sectors unattended to .you are compering developed nation as if education was the only sector that made them .most of us send our children to school abroad not only because of their educational standard but guarantee of employment after finishing their education and infrastructure and enabling environment is the bed rock for investors which will lead to employment of educated or non educate citizens in the state.what is the value of knowledge you have when there is no enabling environment for implementation ? Dude, there are NO "guarantees of employment" in developed countries... Nonetheless, education provides the basic platform to CREATE, expand, maximize and/or secure employment. In a society like Nigeria (as with many developing societies), what many bemoan as challenges are actually economic and job-creation opportunities, because jobs are created in the process of solving societal problems. However, to be able to do that, the citizenry has to educated to the point that it has the technical and professional capacity to formulate and undertake the necessary solutions. Meanwhile, you miss the basic point that was made, which was not that infrastructure is irrelevant, but rather than faced with a reported 80% poverty rate, the highest number of out-of-school children in the country, armies of Almajiri beggars and high levels of mortality, building flyovers for a substantially Okada-riding population should NOT be a priority! Governance is about PRIORITIZATION! Meanwhile, can you inform us of ONE single developed nation with a largely illiterate (or poorly-educated) citizenry. Go ahead, we'll wait! < |
