Misleading headline. Nigerian doctors are NOT “banned”... Rather, because of the shortage of doctors in Nigeria, the UK does not want UK agencies to ACTIVELY recruit doctors from Nigeria. > |

MobilityExpress: Why buy now? When the hype is over and the dynamics of the Nigerian economic system sets in, share price will crash and adjust to reality. Then MTN owners and their federal government collaborators would be richer and many Nigerians would have lost billions of naira in value of their shares. For now, the Nigerian Stock Exchange is just another MMM. Watch and Pray lest ye fall into temptation bad investments . I just hope MTN shares won't be like MTN data that disappears faster than mosquitoes at night While markets fluctuate, MTN is a pretty sound business (and one with a solid financial track record)... Meanwhile, most stocks on the Nigerian Stock Exchange are actually UNDERVALUED, which is why most of the holdings in the Nigerian bourse are by foreign portfolio investors (followed by domestic institutional investors, and a small corps of retail investors). The only problem is that such “hot money” (ie, foreign portfolio investment) rarely play the long game and their rapid ingress and egress exacerbates market volatility. > |

KingAzubuike: That's the funny thing I hear people spill out. Fact that they bear Nigerians names doesn't mean they are Nigerians. Their ancestors and forefathers might be but they were born ,bred and hold an American citizenship. So the best you can say is american woman/man with Nigerian background etc . You can't even be a foreigner and enlist in the U.S military. Even Hakeem Oluseyi the NASA scientist someone was arguing with me he was a Nigerian I was like wtf . Hakeem Oluseyi has never even stepped his foot on Africa before. Of course you can... Non-citizens (legal immigrants) can enlist in the US military. Why do they care if you want to die for their country? Meanwhile, Hakeem Oluseyi’s REAL name (or rather his birth name) is James Edward Plummer, Jr.... He only took a Nigerian name later in life (when he was a student at Stanford) because he wanted his name to have meaning. > |

Politics › Re: Airport Safety: Enugu Govt Closes Orie Emene Market by 9jaRealist: 6:55am On May 19, 2019 |
Yankiss: What we would want to know is whether the Airport came after the market or vice versa. It is common place for government to site projects in the wrong places and later begin to encroach on the spaces of law abiding citizens. The closure of the market has also put on hold the income of many a home but our governments do not reckon with the effects of some of their actions. There should be palliatives. The suicide rate in Nigeria has skyrocketed due mainly to hardship and inability to make ends meet. It doesn't matter, because the government has the constitutional power of Eminent Domain to acquire any land for public purposes... Meanwhile, I am sure that the traders are likely to be relocated or compensated. Nevertheless, having a safe airport that investors and others can use will increase economic activity in Enugu State, create more jobs and put more money in the pockets of those traders' customers. |

dangotesmummy: there's always consequences FOR EVERY TYPE OF FREEDOM ESPECIALLY NEGATIVE UNPROVOKED ATTACKS
Moreover there's always freedom of expression however freedom after expression is not guaranteed
This is a lesson that we should always mind our utterances on and off social media because where mouth reach, leg no reach there moreover social media isn't always as anonymous as it appears even on your own page So you would advocate and support arrest/dismissal of any Nigerian or other persons who call Buhari or Tinubu or Atiku 'foolish', because those are so-called "negative unprovoked attacks"? Originalsly: Did she refer to him by name? Who the cap fit let him wear it. He must be a fool to say it was him. If that's his photo... to me ..... that's it one of a fool ... that's a clown. Freedom of speech ..... she has spoken out on an issue affecting all students. Did the admin not know of these issues? They have done nothing...but are quick to react to being referred to as foolish. They are not to be called out.... little gods... but we expect change. Primary and Secondary school students.... their teachers and administrators are like their parents.... they must follow instructions... no back talk.... they are there to learn. University level... all adults... lecturers are not their parents... it is where students should be challenging everything including them... and that is what give rise to innovations... changes. If she takes the matter to court... the admin would prove themselves to be fools. Exactly! In every advanced society or nation, you will always find a certain amount of defiance/skepticism towards authority... Unfortunately, Nigerians/Africans still have difficulty with grasping that innovation/progress often comes from refusing to follow the herd. < |

SHOCKED at the number of comments attacking the girl here...
The indefinite suspension itself is DISGRACEFUL! A university or any other academic community is the last place one would expect to see the crude stifling (or chilling) of the free expression of diverse ideas, opinions and viewpoints (even unpalatable ones), and in fact there should be an institutional and institutionalized culture of aggressively defending individual liberties (including individual opinions and diverse viewpoints), so long as same does not pose threat if imminent danger or bodily harm to others. Even more DESPICABLE is that she is being punished for an opinion expressed on her own personal platform completely unrelated to the school.> |

eni4real: He is a professional who was trying to help salvage the situation (if there is any chance). But to you, he is simply "tampering with a corpse". In an ideal country, he will definitely be exonerated because he was trying to help.
But in a country where he is already termed a suspect, he will suffer incrimination in 90% of case unless he 'settled' himself financially despite being innocent. He is very lucky to have CCTV evidence available. More than 95% of 'suspect' don't have such a luck.
Are you an Idealist or a realist ? You don't belong here!!! And here he has ultimately been exonerated as well... Of course, already said several times it was wrong to brand him a suspect, so the unnecessary repetition is irrelevant. Again, quit conflating issues. Great that he is a professional trying to help (he should try to help, and should be COMMENDED for trying to help), but the police still did the absolute right thing bringing him in for questioning. Again, if it was your brother or sister, reasonably sure that you would want the police to ensure that no foul play was involved and to question those found with the corpse before exonerating anyone. > |

eni4real: I hope the money they will have to cough out is a "Standard procedure" too!! There’s no point in conflating unnecessary issues... Go and be found (or tamper) with a corpse in the US, UK, Canada or wherever else Nigerians are migrating to and see if you will not be dragged down to the local precinct. As I already said, calling them “suspects” was wrong but it would dereliction of duty not to question them. Reasonably certain that if that was your own sibling or family member, you would want the police to ensure that no foul play was involved. < |
