SEGLIZ:In other words, a ZOO! ![]() |
She’s probably Filipino, but many Nigerians will think of her as “white” (and think every white person is rich)... Therefore, the lazy relatives of the husband will start maltreating her when those dollars are not coming forth. Bums! ![]() |
gidgiddy:What’s “remarkable” about it? That thieves remain in the corridors of power in Nigeria seemingly for ever? Orji Kalu is CURRENTLY facing corruption prosecution at the Federal High Court. Theodore Orji, who was literally squirreled away from the midst of a then ongoing corruption trial to be sworn in as Abia Governor and secure immunity, is reportedly facing imminent corruption prosecution with his son following their recent arrest/interrogation by the EFCC. Meanwhile, Abaribe is fighting his own legal demons after being required to forfeit the N100 million he put up for Nnamdi Kanu’s bail. That, ladies and gentleman, are the best and brightest that one state in Nigeria has opted to share with the rest of the nation. Remarkable indeed! SMH |
tolani4real:He is surrounded by Greek now that he is successful. ![]() Even the Greek President met with him after he became an NBA star, coming against the background of a well-known Greek TV personality recently referring to his older brother (who was also granted Greek nationality when the NBA came calling and has subsequently represented Greece in basketball) as “a monkey”, and most right-wing Greek parliamentarians having opposed the fast-tracking of Greek nationality for Giannis when the NBA came calling. After years of living a life of poverty in the shadows and constantly in fear of deportation, Giannis’ life reaffirms the cliched saying that success has many parents/relatives. There are MYRIAD (probably in the thousands) of Giannises in Greece today - the sole difference is that none of them can consistently shoot or stuff a basketball down the rim. |
slam7000:Giannis (and his older brother) has already represented Greece in the FIBA Euro qualifiers... However, his name remains Adetokunbo. The official spelling is the Greek-letter spelling of Adetokunbo but spells out differently when that official Greek lettering is translated into English (Roman) letters. The pronunciation remains the same - Adetokunbo. |
edi287:No, he sees himself as BOTH Nigerian and Greek. See the Greek and Nigerian flags on his Insta message in link below: https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/nba/bucks/2018/11/15/instagram-post-giannis-supports-brother-target-racist-comment/2010429002/ Furthermore, at the Milwaukee Bucks training facility, Giannis hangs a Nigerian flag beside a Greek flag, and his official verified Twitter profile also has Nigerian and Greek flags (with the Nigerian flag actually ahead of the Greek flag). In 2019, hyphen-nationalities are par for the course. |
tiger28:Exactly! They were NEVER granted Greek citizenship and lived in constant fear of deportation - until the NBA came knocking. |
somehow:Giannis is doing the “claiming” HIMSELF! ![]() He has the NIGERIAN flag on his official Twitter profile, and click on the link below and see the proud NIGERIAN flag on his Insta message: https://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/nba/bucks/2018/11/15/instagram-post-giannis-supports-brother-target-racist-comment/2010429002/ . |
bjjose:His mother does NOT have a Greek passport, so her official name remains Adetokunbo... |
rentAcock:Btw, do you know that he was playing lower division basketball in Greece only because only Greek ctitizens (and presumably EU citizens) can play in the top division in Greece? |
rentAcock:No, his eldest brother plays/played football in Nigeria. In fact, his eldest brother NEVER met Giannis until Giannis was drafted into the NBA and moved to the US, because his parents left him in Nigeria with relatives to migrate to Greece. However, in Greece they NEVER had official papers and lived as poor refugees selling stuff on street corners and constantly in fear of deportation (and always on the move because the family could not afford regular apartments). Even Giannis himself only got Greek nationality and a Greek passport barely a few weeks to the NBA draft to enable him travel to the US for the draft. Up until then, he was not considered a Greek national and his family was subject to deportation at any point. I am not sure that his father ever received a Greek passport but was nonetheless able to join Giannis in the US under a US visa for persons deemed necessary for the support of a US legal resident - until he sadly died of a heart attack in his 50s. PS: Btw, his father played football in Nigeria, and his mother was a Nigerian Olympian. Giannis’ great footwork came from years of playing football as a kid with his family (same as Akeem Olajuwon’s great footwork), and he only reluctantly took up basketball in his late teens (he has played for less than 10 years) when his older brother started playing and quit playing football with Giannis despite Giannis’ entreaties. |
dominique:Antetokounmpo is merely the result of Greek letters being translated into English, but the pronunciation is still Adetokunbo... |
Sleyanya1:Nurture and nature are BOTH crucial ingredients of success. How many natural/native Greeks play anywhere as well as he does? |
wisestman:His name was spelt out as pronounced in Greek letters in his Greek passport, but when those Greek letters are translated into English letters they spell out “Antetokounmpo” - still pronounced as Adetokunbo though. |
genied1:How is someone whose TWO parents are biologically Nigerian not biologically Nigerian? In 2019, it is not mutually-exclusive to be Greek and to also be Nigerian, and more importantly Giannis himself claims BOTH nationalities. |
Reeb2244:He is BOTH Greek and Nigerian. In fact, in the Milwaukee Bucks training facility, he hung up both Greek and Nigerian flags, and his official Twitter profile also has both Nigerian and Greek flags side-by-side (in fact, the Nigerian flag is first). Furthermore, when his older brother was recently called a “monkey” by a commentator on Greek TV, Giannis sent out a message reiterating that his family is Greek and Nigerian. Biggups to him. |
Meanwhile, in the second picture, look at all those people crowded onto a dodgy-looking balcony and some people sitting on a roof. If something catastrophic happens to those now, people will start blaming village relatives or the government. We can be our own worst enemies. SMH |
kingemzy5:When did our generation of Nigerians become such HATERS?! Not everyone will cure cancer or win the Nobel a Prize, but when someone achieves GLOBAL recognition in her/his field, it’s newsworthy! |
safarigirl:Well, she grew up in this “shithole” and met her husband in a bar in said “shithole”. So perhaps the real “shit” resides between your ears. |
DUMB people! Thinking that dancing will kill a fetus... SMH Meanwhile, many Oyibo women continue to exercise almost until the baby is ready to drop. |
NEXT LEVEL?! ![]() Hopefully it’s not a metaphor for Nigeria’s condition after 4 more years of Buhari. |
Dreal1247: ![]() |
Blakjewelry:And so he deserved to be stabbed? ZOO ![]() |
sexiestharam:Because in Naija ‘pastor’ and ‘conman’ are often synonymous terms. |
‘PA’ indeed! Wonder what it feels like tasting Oga’s stool for a living...SMH ![]() |
one4GOD:Why do some of you persist with this argument? If a registration requires an inspection of the school’s facilities, and upon such inspection it reveals the structural inadequacies of the building it would at the very least put all parties on notice. The school will not be situated in the building, and the landlord may be compelled to take corrective measures or risk losing the other tenants as well who would now be on notice. |
mrAMG2:Both are not mutually-exclusive... But there is absolutely no reason to expose innocent school kids to that danger at all. Not one! And while each and every life is invaluable... The loss of a lesser number of innocent lives is ALWAYS BETTER than the loss of a greater number of innocent lives. |
SouthSouth1914: CharlesJok3r:YarAdua is a DOLT who did almost NOTHING of substance in office for 2 years (apart from initiating the Amnesty program in the Niger Delta). Meanwhile, why would petrol cost the same across a country as huge and diverse as Nigeria? Why would someone buy gasoline in Elema (just down the street from the refineries) at the same price as the dude in Kaura Namoda in Sokoto State? Why do we continue to give out private refinery licenses when we know that virtually no bank will project finance a refinery that is compelled by law to sell its products at BELOW the cost of production (this making a loss from Day One onwards)? |
AutoReportNG2:Lagos Island is a STRONGHOLD of the APC. Demolish those buildings at your own political peril... Until the people in power elevate human life over their political fortunes, these sorts of tragedies will sadly persist. |
Olawalesmarter:Exactly! Unlike now that Nigeria is so safe that Boko Haram is not still fighting in the North-East, herdsmen are not going around slaughtering farmers, so-called ‘bandits’ have not laid siege to Zamfara State, the Fulani and other ethnicities are not killing each other for fun in Kajuru (and perhaps other parts of Kaduna State), bandits have not run rampant in the riverine areas of a Lagos and Ogun State, the Army is not carrying out operations all across the country, and so on and so forth. Keep enjoying the “peace” of the dead under Buhari. SMH |
If Ambode supposedly “refused to continue” with the Light Rail project, who is paying for this bridge? Do the people making these comments actually grasp what it takes to build a rail bridge like this and how far deep down into the seabed those supporting piles have to go to safely carrying trains? If Ambode “refused to continue” with the project, who then negotiated the agreement with Alstom of France (one of the world’s leading rail engineering companies) to electrify the tracks on the Blue Line and to help finance and buy new modern rolling stock (instead of the USED old NYC coaches that Fashola wanted to buy from a Toronto company)? If Ambode “refused to continue” with the Light Rail project, who completed the negotiations for the right-of-way for the Red Line? The Light Rail project is a complex infrastructural project and not a can of beans, and while it has admittedly suffered delays (particularly, but not limited to, financing issues) it was NEVER abandoned in any guise by Mr. Ambode. In actual fact, it took all of THREE YEARS for the NNPC to relocate its pipelines in the Blue Line’s right-of-way, while the negotiations with the military for permission to demolish part of Ojo Cantonment that abuts the Blue Line’s right-of-way dragged on until 2017 or 2018. Many Nigerians love to see “commissioning” (even of zinc ‘constituency project’ toilets), but do not seem to appreciate that solid pre-works most often results in better projects. |
BlackDBag:Better to come back now than later in a box in the cargo hold... Good luck to him! |
